I ordered the Mango Tango roll, Shakespeare roll, and Kamikaze roll. The Mango Tango roll was super sweet. Honestly, it was hard to taste much besides the mango. It worked more like a fun "dessert roll" than a savory one. The Kamikaze roll was decent, and the ponzu sauce added a nice hit of umami that brought it together. The Shakespeare roll was the standout for me, really well-balanced. The creaminess of the avocado paired perfectly with the tuna, salmon, and yellowtail. read more

Stopped for a late lunch/early dinner and this place sounded good. So glad we did! Warmly greeted as we walked in the door. We ordered a potsticker appetizer , a Yaki Soba noodle dish with veggies, and a Lion King sushi roll all to share. Everything came out quickly with a nice presentation. It was all delicious. Food was delicious as always but somehow tasted different. We found out later that it now under new management. Perhaps that's why I didn't see Kay (the owner) when I came in. If you judge your sushi on freshness of fish and the flavor of rice then this is the best sushi in town. I like salmon Nagiri and a salmon avocado sushi roll with wasabi and ginger on top. With this preference the fish must be perfectly fresh or you'll definitely know. Also the rice has to have the perfect balance of sweet, salty and rice vinegar. I have tried lots of places in town upon other peoples recommendations but while they might be good at tempura they haven't mastered the simplest dishes in the same way that you'll find here. As per usual lol so me and a friend stopped in here because another yelper wrote this was the best sushi in town and she didn't lie and New Sakura did not disappoint. I ordered the alligator roll.. relax it doesn't have gator but I mean gator is good too. That's another review for some other day. Anywho I ordered one with soft shell crab, imitation crab and eel and whatever those black little eggs are on top, i forgot and then another one with shrimp and crab and my friend got whatever those are in the back of the picture lol they were good and she really liked them. Well, we figured might as well since we were there. Started with the tofu and the hamachi collar. The collar was undercooked, so we sent it back and had it redone. Nothing horrible but what you'd expect for a small town. Salmon was ok. Slices were thick bordering too thick. Wouldn't get the agedashi tofu again. Looked like they fried a full block of tofu and cut it up. You could tell because the sides of the cube were not all fried. Sauce Flavor was a bit off. Tempura was a bit heavy and greasy. My husband and daughter are the sushi experts in the family, so I defer to their opinion. In this case, they were super impressed with the quality and texture of their selection. They ordered salmon, eel, yellowtail and tuna. They also ordered a spicy dragon roll that had a "kick". Words they used were "buttery" and "fresh". All good things when describing sushi. My son had a teriyaki chicken entree and when he took the first bite, he insisted we try it. The chicken was moist, but the sauce!! I've had my share of teriyaki through the years including in Asia, but they must make the sauce in-house and with some kind of secret recipe because it's the best teriyaki sauce we've ever had. Just the right amount of sweetness and tang to please your palate. I had the seaweed salad and vegetable yakisoba and both were delicious. The seaweed texture had the right amount of crunch and flavor. My noodles were delicious and hot, with crunchy vegetables throughout. And the service was wonderful as well. My husband and I were visiting Oregon for the first time because it was our Anniversary and we decided to do something we've never done before so we made the drive from Redding to Medford. We were looking for a place to eat and stumbled upon New Sakura, I was hopeful but also hesitant because all the Sushi experiences I've had in California since moving from Hawai'i have been mehhh. However, we ended up coming here and we definitely were not disappointed! The food was tasty and affordable. The service could use some work but it seemed as though the owner was serving everyone and there is a help wanted sign posted out front. Regardless, I observed how they interacted with their regulars and I loved that they treated them like family and knew them by name. I was really impressed and decided that they get a free pass on my average service for that. Here's what we ordered: Assorted Tempura - The batter was crunchy and the perfect texture and it was flavorful, the tempura sauce was perfect as well. Black Dragon Roll - My husband said this was his favorite thing we ordered because the flavor was nice. White Tiger Roll - I really liked this roll, it was creamy with a hint of heat. Chirashi Bowl - This is my go to, all the fish was pretty fresh except for the Ahi but this bowl was still great. I was very surprised at the size of the rolls and the portion sizes for everything else. Other pluses: ample parking and wheelchair accessible!
