We happened upon Hiro Sushi when our regular sushi place was closed, and it was by far one of the best accidental discoveries made. The service here is incredible. A huge shout-out to Kaylin, who consistently goes above and beyond. She is always smiling, genuinely welcoming, and happy to make great recommendations. They do not have on the menu iced tea, but rather than simply telling me they do not, she brings me a cup of ice along with hot green tea so I can make my own. It's a small thing, but it perfectly represents her approach to customer service. The sushi itself is remarkable, and the chefs clearly appreciate their customers. They routinely do little extra things that make us feel valued and create a level of service that really stands out. We generally spend around $100 for two people, including one alcoholic beverage and green tea, which I consider very reasonably priced for the quality of the food and service, especially in today's economy. The only thing which surprises me is that the restaurant often seems slower than I would expect. We've been on both Mondays and Saturdays, and I honestly don't understand why this place isn't packed. Hiro Sushi has officially become our new favorite sushi restaurant, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. From our perspective, it's the management's responsibility to train and oversee new employees. That wasn't happening. The sushi was fresh but I felt like the sushi rice was a lot and kinda hard. My daughter was very happy with her sashimi. Many of our dishes didn't come out. I had to give a few reminders. Visiting Medford after 15 years being away. My go to sushi spot is long gone and wanted to find a new one. Hiro sushi is my new sushi spot whenever I come to Medford. Service was great! Ambiance is nice and what you would expect from any other sushi spot. Thinking about going back for dinner. Compared to the sushi spots in Los Angeles this would be added to my "solid" level sushi spots that I could go to pretty frequently. Won't blow your socks off but perfect for every day enjoyment. Wowza.... What an exceptional sushi dinner. We are traveling through Oregon and wanted to seek out some local sushi. Being from California we are spoiled with so much fresh fish. HIRO Sushi however had the freshest fish we have tried. It is apparent that Ryan the Owner has a unique gift and also takes great care in creating each dish. It's not what it used to be *sadness* No longer a value. Sashimi Combo (9 pieces chef's choice) + miso soup $27.00. Just 3 months ago, the combo included miso soup + salad. I asked our served and she said, "No, my boss won't let us serve salad or rice with the combo anymore." Today the "combo" is just soup. You have to ADD+$3.00 salad or rice. So, the combination of sashimi + miso soup + salad is now $30.00. Gyoza appetizer is a-ok. 6-7 pieces for $12.00 I preferred THIS to the breaded calamari appetizer from the previous visit (think grocery outlet frozen section). Bento box (pick 2 proteins) + salad + rice = $28.00 A LOT of veggies to bulk up the bento box because they have gotten skimpy on the protein. Both the chicken and the beef were tasty, just a really small portion of each on a bed of raw shredded cabbage. Maybe a $12-14 value for lunch, but definitely not what I expected for a $28.00 dinner meal. I feel bad for the younger lady who runs the whole shift by herself :( She could really use some help in the front of house. She's usually on point, but she needs a day off. I love this little spot! The food is delicious and the menu is diverse. It's really quite a fusion place. My little one loves their various fried rice options and beef bulgogi. I have tried the poké, a few rolls, and several appetizers and enjoyed them all, immensely! It's not in a shopping center, has it's own parking lot. After years of trying every spot from Central Point to Ashland, I've found a Sushi Home I'll be honest, because of the location (hidden behind the North Medford Walmart across from Mellelo's) it took me years to finally stop in and try this place. That was a mistake on my part - "Never judge a book by its cover" The Waitress/Host/Manager is always friendly when we come in and over the phone for pickup orders as well. From day one she made us feel like regulars. After actually attending weekly on Wednesdays for a few months, she gifted us some chopsticks she had brought back from her recent personal visit in Japan. She is always recommending rolls, menu items, sakes, and even which days are best to come in depending on which fish we like to get it as fresh as possible! The fish is incredible. Quick, fast, clean and the food is amazing EVERY SINGLE TIME! They have so many options to they will not disappoint you.

I'm a lucky duck. I've had access to great sushi and, generally, very good Japanse food for nearly 30 years. This isn't that. On the plus side, the service was really good. Our server was friendly & generally knowledgeble. The food came out fast, though one dish was forgotten until reminded. And the menu has a few creative touches. That said, it's EXPENSIVE. I live in the Seattle area, so I'm no stranger to sticker shock but this place still shocked me. $8 for edamame?!?! $12 if you want garlic flavor?!?! The rolls are on parity, in terms of pricing, to Seattle. And the sushi/sashimi is more expensive. Also, of the 4 dishes we ordered, none were especially tasty (...to me...I know I'm the outlier here). To be clear, they weren't bad but also not great. The grilled fish was improperly prepared and presented. The shitake maki had literally no flavor. The jalapeno "little bomb" appetizer could have been GREAT. Instead, it was drenched in mayo & eel sauce so you couldn't even really appreciate the spicy salmon filling. I really wanted to love this place. Unfortunately, I was underwhelmed. read more

Outstanding! I would give 6 stars if I could! This is in the running for the best sushi I've had - ever! All of the ingredients were so fresh and expertly prepared. We ordered several rolls - rainbow roll, California roll, vegetable roll, cherry blossom roll, ham and cheese Kim bab - gyoza, and vegetable tempura. How does everything taste so good?! The ham and cheese kim bab is new on the menu and I wasn't really sure how it would taste, but I really liked the flavors! The pickled radish had a pleasant crunch and was really mild, not at all briney. It didn't overpower the flavors. The warm ham was also a really nice touch. It's called ham and cheese but it's not like a Philadelphia roll that has cream cheese. In fact, I barely tasted the cheese. The flavors worked really well, and it tasted fresh and mild. The vegetable tempura was so light with great ingredients. Love the sweet potatoes! You know it's a great tempura when the serving dish has no oil left behind in the bottom. My favorite was the cherry blossom roll. The tuna was especially soft and smooth. Just a masterful combination of flavors, and the quality of every ingredient and preparation was perfection! The service was also impressive! They brought all our food out really quickly and were very attentive. So rarely does everyone in our family come out of a restaurant not just happy but giddy. (In fact, I'm listening to them on the phone to family raving about the meal as I type!) I'm sad we don't live in Medford so we can't come more often. The reviews looked good, and I rolled the dice, sushi in Medford, sure I'll give it a try. The Christmas music was sort of weird, the waitress was nice, and it was clean. The Halloween decorations are a little past due. I got the spicy scallop hand roll, it was awful. Weird sauce and smelled fishy. The Rogue roll was interesting in concept. Sake menu is limited but has the basics. Then I got the regular spicy tuna roll, because I wanted to give them a chance for something redeeming from the kitchen. The last roll was fine. No one ever asked how my food was tasting, if I was having a good experience or even if I liked my sake choice. Sorely disappointed to later find that Hiro is no longer the owner of what use to be the best sushi in Southern Oregon. It's still sushi, w/o the Hado of chef Hiro. A great dinner spot (even if you're solo!) Enjoyed the sushi combo A as well as a follow-on order of nigiri sake (raw salmon on rice, two pieces), served with miso and a small side salad. The sushi was excellent, as evidenced by me wanting more of salmon. If I could change anything, I'd ask for a selection of salad dressing - a choice between two would improve the salad, as the default dressing was alright but almost a bit too fatty. The iceberg lettuce pieces were also a bit too large to grab with chopsticks almost, and I'm a ninja with those, so I'd be curious to know whether actual entrée salads are far more gourmet and therefore easier to handle. Will definitely come back and try more nigiri and sashimi, the fish is excellent! Salmon a bit more excellent than tuna.
