I hardly ever give a 1 star rating. But the attitude of the hostess the evening of 8/14/26 was horrible. We asked to be moved and her response was incredibly rude. All she had to say was "I'm sorry, I have no available tables to which I can move you." Both of us are locals, and we will be hard pressed to return. We stopped in for some apps before seeing a show, and everything was great! We had the loaded fries and they were very unique and delicious, and the drinks were also all delicious! The server was nice and quick, and everything came out hot and quick. Pricing was a little high, and the restaurant was very busy and loud, but that's to be expected on a weekend! Think I will give this five stars as they didn't really miss on anything. This is a cool kind of chic spot in the main square of Ashland. I am not certain if there is an elevator so if you can't climb the stairs, unfortunately you may be out of luck for this restaurant. I had two vibes about this destination. The front of the restaurant was very straightforward and intimate. The back section just past the bar gave me a cool hip fun comfortable area. The chairs are padded and there are booths for your friends. Service was great and as for the food, chefs kiss. Unfortunately, I can't remember the exact description of my dish, but it was salmon with green beans, garnished with garden greens and a very unique type of either tomato or pepper, which gave it a sweet taste. The glaze was also delicious. My wife had a stacked roasted beet salad, which was also very hearty and delicious. We didn't get any dessert, but the drinks were also poured expertly by our bartender. Twas a cold wintry night in Ashland after a long drive up from San Francisco, when we found this cozy yet roomy place tucked away on the second floor. Really thought we were in for a treat. But while the service was impeccable, the chef has some 'splaining to do. Exhibit A: the pork loin special. My mom, and many others no doubt, often said people eat with their eyes. When we feasted ours on this unappetizing pile of monochromatic mush, her words came back to haunt me. There was little flavor or texture variation and the meal came off as institutional. As for Exhibit B, my vegetable stir-fry with added prawns, I can admit I was being a little pollyanna-ish in ordering an Asian inspired dish at a non Asian restaurant. The vegetables seemed to be a mix of fresh and frozen and the flavors needed a boost from the sriracha I requested. Overall a beautiful place to enjoy the Ashland vibes, but I might limit my order to liquid libations the next time around. read more

Shout out to Alex and Taran for making our night. We were snagging a late dinner after a long work shift and accidentally spilled one of our drinks. Alex immediately helped us to a new table, carrying our stuff over and making sure we didn't have to stress over the broken glass. The drinks (that we didn't spill) were also delicious. I tried Tarans Ruby Rook and if you like whiskey / port, I highly recommend you try it! We were just passing through Ashland and decided to give this place a try. Great ambiance in an upstairs restaurant. Beautifully decorated for the holidays. Our server was great, a ton of knowledge on the area and the menu. We ordered way too much food so we could try multiple dishes so walked out stuffed! The Brickroom is located upstairs in a historical building on Ashland Main Street. Given that the building is considered historical, there are no elevators, which makes it inaccessible to visitors who can't climb stairs. However, once you reach the floor the Brickroom is on, it is well worth the climb. The ambiance is relaxing and the food is very good. I had a Cubano sandwich with fries. The sandwich had the perfect blend of meat, cheese, and spicy mustard. The fries were shoestring and nice and crispy. I also had iced hibiscus tea which paired well with my meal. My waiter made sure I had everything I needed and was friendly without being intrusive. I will definitely return to the Brickroom when I visit Ashland. read more

This used to be our favorite place... then it all went down hill right after they pulled out the beautiful antique wood floor- such a horrible shame to such a historic place! However, the manager was that was going in all the time that isn't there anymore. The younger guy, he kept them on their toes in the kitchen when he was there now it is complete garbage again. The flank steak is just ruined. Soggy the sauce is not near as good. Nothing on it works anymore. The tuna was atrocious with really crappy garbage bread and weird over mixed tuna inside. I think it's like $18 for that and it was like a eight dollar tuna plus the drinks have gone to hell used to make the best skinny margaritas and they can't even do that. As locals, Brickroom is one of our favorite weekend brunch spots. Highly recommend! However, in our social circle, the Brickroom burger is legendary and I finally had my crack at it. The two features of the burger that stood out were the bread and the cheese. The bread was very light and airy. It had a nice carmely flavor, but gave very little resistance, letting you efficiently reach the chuck patty where good stuff is happening. The cheese is the other big factor. The menu says it's served with a "chevre aioli," which I think is fancy-talk for "there's a little goat cheese on it." That's a solid move! Often I find with these thick, non-smashed patties, the seasoning can be lacking because it has a tough time penetrating through the full thickness of the meat. The goat cheese gives it a punch of salty flavor that carries you through the full thickness of the bite. And lastly, the crumbly lettuce along with the creamy "aioli" sauce gives a silent homage to the Big Mac. Similar vibes, but more elevated. The ambience at Brickroom strikes a nice balance. It doesn't try to do too much but also feels higher-end. The service in my experience is mostly hands off, which sometimes feels right when you want to focus on being with friends or just eating. If you like beets, this is a definite salad that you need to order and it's easily shareable. I loved how this place is designed and decorated. We came in for lunch on a very hot 100F day and inside it was cool and cosy. the services was friendly, fast and efficient and the food was pretty good too. My wife loved the salad she ordered (forgot what it was unfortunately, but I added a photo). There's also a nice little patio facing away from the main street that looks very nice and quiet, but it was too hot to be outside that day. Stopped in this place in Ashland as I was traveling to Canada from LA. This was a recommendation from the guy in my hotel, who said it's one of the places he goes to eat at. What a nice downtown area, tons of neat little shops and super walkable. The Brickroom is upstairs and a bit hard to get to or see, but definitely go check this place out. My son and I are in Ashland to see plays and decided to try The Brickroom. We were seated in the deck and ordered the salmon and the shrimp fettuccine. I really enjoyed the salmon and the green beans served with it were perfectly cooked... so delicious. My son had the fettuccine and reported that the shrimp was delicious and the fettuccine very good. For dessert we asked for the pear crisp. It was so interesting! A small upright pear that has been coated and literally crisped in a hot oven. It was served on a rectangular dish with a scoop of ice cream at the other end. At first, I ordered the So Little Time, So Matcha To Do, but they were missing a key ingredient, so I ordered the Pisco My Heart, soooooo good! For lunch, I had the beet salad with chicken. I didn't know how it was going to be served but it was a tower of beets with chevre cheese, and the grilled chicken was on the side. We had been sitting for over two hours, except for when we received our diplomas, but we enjoyed sitting in the dining area and there were a number of graduates there as well! Two women friends that I rendezvous for brunch at the Brickroom in Ashland. I had absolutely delicious Eggs Benedict with a side salad. My friends felt they could not live without trying the My Jam potatoes, which they loved. The space is simply gorgeous with very high ceilings, lots of natural light, old red brick walls, and beautiful plants. It is very spacious so you don't feel crowded even when every table is filled. Have been going there for years for their awesome pulled pork sandwich but..... the last two times the bun was cheap and soggy, the pork was dry, there wasn't half the ingredients on it as advertised or I've had in the past.
