Deviled eggs! Yum.
Larry E.

We experienced a wonderful dinner service with friends at Cocorico in Ashland the other evening. Of all the dishes we tried, their fresh deviled eggs and a pork chop "special" reigned supreme. The eggs were creamy, seasoned well and had a delicate mouth feel that wasn't rubbery. They were also plated with care and beautifully served as pictured at our table. Caveat: The eggs came over some crushed potato chips for texture. Not a great move IMHO. One of our friends thought she was eating egg shells as she missed hearing the server say what was in the bowl (dining room is noisy at times and dimly lit). They weren't necessary and became a distraction. The thick-cut pork chop (bone-in) was cooked to perfection by a slow & low "sous vide" process, perfect for keeping the meat moist and tender. Reversed seared/grilled to finish, with an herbed crust before plating over a sweet potato mash, au jus and steamed spring asparagus spears. The environment inside was intimate, warm and jovial with many happy diners enjoying their meals as well. It would be a perfect place for "date night". They make their own pasta in-house and everything else is from scratch too. Cocktails were inventive, refreshing and paired well with the food served. We will be back again. Note: the space is tight and parking is on the street, please make reservations. Truth...

Man, we had the best dinner yet at Cocorico, closest to a 5 star review they have come. The staff were amazing and on arrival you could feel the passion they had for their restaurant. The owner should give the lady seating guests a raise because she greeted us like we were her best friends and she had held onto the best table in the house for us! We were instantly stoked. The wait staff were also highly attentive and made us feel served in every sense. Tonight the stars of the show were the cocktails and starters. Amazing drinks came out with depth of flavor. I had my usual oaxaca old fashioned, and let my non-existent hair down with another Royale Aviation cocktail. Amazing construction, colors, and flavors that felt like a journey. The grilled octopus starter was a slam dunk. The mildly charred octopus was up-showed by the amazing bed of pinto beans that added a deep savory flavor with a delicious acidic tang at the end of each bite. The burrata also played games using texture with your palate, juxtaposing the rich soft cheese with the crunch of spiced apple bits and candied pecans. What a course! For my main I had the sole market fish, which was a marvelous braid-work of various flavors and textures. A delicate filet with a delicious crust, draped over creamy kohlrabi puree, yellow rice, crunchy parsnip, and even a tangy pickled fennel. Now the only weak spot of the meal was the chickpea tagine. You could tell the chef's aim was to contrast the intense salty halloumi patty with a more modestly seasoned bed of chickpea and rice. However, the chickpea and rice felt like a total void and ratio of halloumi cheese to the rest of these flavorless items was totally off. If you scroll down to one of my prior reviews, you will see this same dish bathing in a rich red sauce, which was sorely missed. The disappointment was real, because this was the entree my wife was craving that inspired our reservation. Overall, a great meal. Really strong construction of flavors in almost every dish, and definitely in the cocktails. This is a spot to try and try again. You can tell what they're doing is working, because I keep coming back for more.

Just WOW! Every part of our experience here was excellent!! The service, the food, and the ambience. Started with a warm greeting by the hostess, how friendly our server was and how he brought the chef's food to life with his descriptions and recommends, to the staff helping clear the table -- everyone was delivering a top experience. The food. We only ended up ordering several starters and a dessert, so can't speak to the entrees, but what we did order was fantastic. All the flavors were excellent. We sat outside in the enclosed patio and it was comfortable, warm, and nicely decorated. Prices are reasonable which is always an extra bonus! Super happy we decided to visit this restaurant while we were in town. Highly recommend checking this one out!

Great food and a cozy, well-organized space so perfect for date night. We received a warm welcome and excellent service from Meg, who had great recommendations. The duck confit special was crispy and tender, and the mushroom bolognese was delicious. Overall, a great experience and definitely worth visiting.

I loved this place. It was hopping on a Friday in January---it's bigger than you think from the outside and it was full up. The vibe is classy but fun and laid back, very Ashland I think. The food and cocktails were super--and the service was thoughtful, attentive, caring, snd never felt rushed. Loved it!

Gayle and I enjoyed a fabulous meal last Thursday evening at Cocorico. This space housed the former Amuse restaurant for years, before Cocorico took over a few years ago. Cocorico describes itself as festive European-style eatery serving modern Neo-Rustic Mediterranean cuisine by Chef Nat Borsi. Gayle and I had a great time for what we both remember as a perfect cozy date night. Everything in our experience ran on all cylinders starting with a friendly greeting and ushering us to our table. Our deeply experienced wait guy was friendly, engaging, and insightful. Our table was comfortable and at a window. We also appreciated the thank you as we left for the evening. Gayle ordered Trout as her main, while I opted for the Carbonara. For the appetizer table, we ordered Garlic Bread, Asparagus, and Mussels. All choices were rich, delicious, well presented, served promptly, and a good value for the money. The adult beverages for the evening were a Bombay Sapphire Martini (up) and Chardonnay for Gayle and Sparking Water and a nice Oregon Rose for me. We continued on by sharing a really tasty chocolate-heavy dessert and a pot of Noble coffee. With respect to the former New Sammy's Cowboy Bistro, this might be one of the best meals that Gayle and I have enjoyed in the Ashland area over the years. We haven't tried MÄS yet, but that more expensive opportunity can wait until after we visit Cocorico again (and hopefully soon).

Everything at Cocorico was fantastic. The décor had a French-eclectic charm that really showcased the chef's diverse background. The service was super friendly, and the food was absolutely divine. I recommend starting with the deviled eggs and you truly can't go wrong with anything you order here.

Mexican Jungle Bird

Ashland's Crown Jewel. Maybe Oregon's Best. Last night might have been the most complete and flawless dining experience I've ever had and I don't say that lightly. We arrived at Cocorico Neo Rustic Kitchen in Ashland around 6:45 with a party of four, no reservation, fully prepared for a wait. Instead, we were welcomed with warm smiles and immediate accommodations. That level of hospitality alone puts Cocorico in a different league. From the moment we sat down, everything was executed with intention. Our server gave a thoughtful, knowledgeable breakdown of the wine list, and the cocktails were phenomenal especially the Mexican Jungle Bird, which was perfectly balanced and one of the best cocktails I've had in a long time. As a bar consultant for some of the top brands in the industry, it's rare that a drink stops me in my tracks, but this one did. We started with the deviled eggs and the parmesan garlic bread, both absolute standouts. Then came the entrées: a fall-apart tender lamb shank, a beautifully prepared chicken dish, and a homemade carbonara that tasted like it came straight out of Rome. Every plate was its own moment; comforting, elevated, and crafted with real intention. And then... the dessert menu. This is where Cocorico separates itself from nearly every restaurant in Oregon. Each dessert was exceptional on its own, but the cocktail pairings took the entire experience to another level. That level of creativity and detail is incredibly rare, especially in Southern Oregon. From the first greeting to the final bite, Cocorico delivered a MASTERCLASS in hospitality, execution, and flavor. Without question, this is one of Oregon's best.

Amazing service, amazing food, amazing ambiance. Highly recommend this gem in Ashland. The burrata was a star, as was the garlic bread and mushroom bolognese. Can't wait to come back!!

Last Word cocktail

During a recent trip to Ashland, I decided to check out Cocorico before an evening show at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. It's walking distance from the theaters, and I was happy I could get a table without a reservation during a popular weekday evening. The service was friendly though there was a delay in getting my entree. However, my cocktail arrived relatively quickly and I thought their version of the Last Word was expertly made. I had the lamb burger for dinner, and the meat was tender with a tasty mix of flavors. They offer indoor and outdoor seating, and I liked the cozy feel of my table inside the restaurant.

99% certain this is the best restaurant in Ashland OR. UNBELIEVABLE French food done with fresh Oregon produce is a combo that's hard to beat. They're putting out whatever is fresh in the season and sourcing everything locally. We got the pork chop which was crazy and the peach cobbler desert tasted like they had the peaches grown out back. Also service was

Bar Juillet: Where Perfect Cocktails Meet Perfect Fried Chicken…read more Bar Juillet has quickly become one of our absolute favorite go-to spots in Ashland and Southern Oregon. It all starts with the best fried chicken you'll find anywhere in the region. Hands down. This restaurant and cocktail bar delivers on every front. The cocktails are crafted with real skill and balance, and their wine list is outstanding a thoughtful mix of local favorites and world-renowned producers that shows just how seriously they take their program. I've eaten here multiple times, and one thing you can always count on is consistency. The service is warm and attentive, the food is always executed beautifully, and the atmosphere makes it easy to settle in and enjoy the night. They do get busy on weekends, so reservations are smart, but even if you end up waiting, it's absolutely worth it. And if you can grab a seat at the bar, do it. The bartenders here make it an experience all on its own. Reliable, delicious, and truly one of Ashland's standout spots. Bar Juillet never disappoints.

We were the first people there, and someone yelled from the back of the bar, "We're not open yet." No one came over to greet us or let us wait for a few minutes, which felt surprisingly rude. When we returned and were seated (Table 12), we ordered quite a bit -- warm olives, crudo, two arugula salads, a pasta dish, wine, and a mocktail. Service was extremely slow. Our olives didn't arrive until around 4:35. After our food arrived, we were largely ignored. When the waitress finally came by and asked how everything was, we said it was good, but she didn't ask if we wanted anything else or offer dessert menus. After sitting there for quite a while, we eventually started stacking our own plates as a signal that we were ready for the next course. After another long stretch, my mother flagged her down so we could order dessert and coffee. The food was good, but the service was inattentive enough that it really took away from the experience.

The service is good, we've been there with our family and with a large group, and they have always been very patient and friendly. Alchemy is in my top 3 favorite places for a dressy dinner when we are visiting Ashland. The only slightly negative thing I have to say is that we were there celebrating a birthday once and at the end of the meal our server brought out a candle on a small, flat ceramic dish. The birthday girl's comment was, "You just spent $300 on dinner and all they brought me for my birthday was a candle?" It seemed a little chintzy since most places will give you an actual dessert, not just a candle, but at least they brought a candle. Other than that tiny little thing, we still love to eat here and will be back when visiting in the future.

The latter changes seasonally--in our case it was a dashi broth with a variety of local mushrooms and vegetables. Both dishes were good, with my steak cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes amazingly creamy without tasting too buttery; the dashi broth was delicious as well. We also split the steak tartare, the house bread, and the chips & dip (seasonal special) as appetizers. With the exception of the chips & dip, the appetizers were good but nothing outstanding. The chips & dip, however, were REALLY GOOD! I did not know you could elevate potato chips like that, but their house-made chips are delicious and I would highly recommend trying them. Both my fiancé and I were not a huge fan of the sauce (just a little too creamy, it's really smooth though so if you like creamy sauces you'll probably enjoy it!), but just eating the plain chips was amazing. They even brought us a second serving of chips for free since we hadn't used all of the dip! We also ordered a pear tart for dessert which I would also recommend getting! Delicious crust and good pear flavor.
