Hubby had the smashed burger he gave it a 4 but he said it could use more seasoning. I had the fish and chips I also give it a 4 the fish could use more salt. The fries were seasoned well and they rate a 4.5. Our server was great and a delight. She gets a 5. The place is nice and clean. Want to know why there is a suit of armor to greet us that was odd bc we r in the school basement. Not mid-evil times. lol. Desert was tasty but not "home made" was more like a box cake from Betty Crocker. And took forever to get to us. So the cake gets a 3.

Rather flat burger that arrived in greasy deli paper. I cut it in half and ended up eating it with a knife and fork.

I was excited to go back to Black Barn after our first visit, but was really disappointed this time. When my food arrived, it looked like something I would expect from a fast food restaurant. The burger was actually quite good, but a greasy burger wrapped in deli paper that I had to eat with a fork wasn't what I was expecting. There were also so many gnats that I think my partner got tired of me swatting at them. The staff also kept making fun of a group having a school reunion, which seemed in poor taste as they were spending their money at the restaurant.

Easily one of the top brunch spots in the Rogue Valley. We tried the Staple, Hen and Chick, and the B&G. It's was all delicious but the biscuit and gravy... oh my.. service was prompt and friendly and the space itself was nice as well. The Bloody Mary is a must to start off with.

The service was warm, attentive, and genuine, the staff made us feel welcome right away. The food was just as impressive. The fried chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside while juicy and flavorful inside , comfort food at its finest. They nailed both the service and food! As a local to Jville we recommend to all our friends and family visiting. We will definitely be back soon.

Our Jacksonville Old West, Victorian and Edwardian Society went here for Saloon Night. We had such a wonderful time. The place is absolutely beautiful with lots of stone pillars and walls as well as antique photos and other beautiful pieces of art. Service is warm and efficient. The food seemed to please everyone. I was certainly pleased by my wedge salad, which is one of my very favorites. This one was really delicious. We will return many times.

Went out for dinner first time there. They had a special so we tried it. Pork with Potato mash and carrots and Ribeye with sweet potato mash fried mushrooms. Very good and tasty. Seasoned very well and service was great. The Chef came out to check on us and that really impressed me. We went back next day to try out the brunch. It was very good as well. Lots of food. Looks like we will be going back to try the sandwiches next.

A local store owner in Jacksonville recommended this restaurant. I like the old brick interior. I would recommend more of an effort on the decor to help the ambiance and vibe of the restaurant. Great service. Started with an appetizer of three large beignets. Lovely toppings made a beautiful and colorful start of our dinner. I enjoyed the pasta entree with a lot of mushrooms, bacon, and spinach. A little salty for me, but so flavorful. Nice toasted bread too. My husband selected the Tere's major steak medallions. Nice and tender. The mashed potatoes were so creamy and delicious. Overall, a nice place to visit.

We arrived about 7:30 on a VERY busy Friday night with reservations. We're greeted and seated immediately. Very attentive and friendly people working, food and drinks arrived quickly. Loved our drinks and dinner as well as VERY reasonable prices! What a deal for this area. Will be back again to try more drink and food options.

Farm burger

Staff was friendly and burgers were delicious! And to our surprise, were greeted with some local deer in the parking lot. Will have to come back and walk around the whole place.

The biscuit was delicious!

We went here for lunch. I had a pork sandwich and it was pretty good. The patio is nice if the weather is good.

Is it possible to label your business photos? I would love to know the name of a dish that looks like something I would like to order.

The people who post the photographs have the opportunity to do that. I agree; it makes it a lot easier to choose.

The setting strikes that rare balance, elevated without ever feeling pretentious. Whether you're a longtime local or visiting Southern Oregon, it's the kind of atmosphere that just fits, relaxed, refined, and quietly beautiful without trying too hard. From the start, subtle touches stood out, like warm, damp hand towels brought out after appetizers. A small detail, but one that signals intention and care, and something you don't often see even in higher-end restaurants. At a young age, Daniella is already operating at a level you typically only see in far more seasoned professionals. Weaving generational balance into her role as Maître d', she doesn't just manage the front of the house, she really sets the tone for the entire evening. You can tell when someone has been raised in hospitality versus just working a shift, and Daniella is a perfect example of that difference. Her timing, awareness, and presence never felt forced or scripted. Everything flowed naturally. She anticipated needs before we had to ask, guided the pacing of the evening seamlessly, and created a rhythm to the service that made the whole night feel intentional. We felt genuinely taken care of, not just served. That kind of intuition isn't taught overnight. It's lived, and it shows. What really sets this Jacksonville Inn restaurant apart is how clearly the kitchen reflects the background, discipline, and experience of Chef Todd Meyerhoffer. There's intention behind every dish, not just in flavor, but in structure, balance, and presentation. We started with the steamed clams, elevated with crispy pork belly, sweet chili, and lime. The richness of the pork belly paired with the brightness of the citrus and chili created a perfect contrast, each bite layered yet clean, which is exactly what you hope for in elevated Pacific Northwest cuisine. The clams themselves were cooked perfectly, tender, briny, and never overpowered by the accompaniments. Next came the surprise of the night, the cauliflower soup with wild mushrooms and Mexican truffle. I'll be honest, this is not something I would ever order on my own, as I'm not a cauliflower person. My wife ordered it to go alongside the clams, and after one taste, we ended up sharing it. It was that good. The earthiness of the mushrooms and truffle didn't mask the cauliflower, they really elevated it. Each spoonful was balanced in a way where you could taste every component individually, yet everything came together seamlessly on the palate, which speaks to real culinary technique rather than trend-driven cooking. The endive salad with Dungeness crab, citrus, and avocado brought a refreshing contrast to the meal, bright, clean, and beautifully composed, with the citrus cutting through the richness of the crab and avocado, making it feel light while still deeply satisfying. For the main, we shared the filet mignon paired with short rib, served alongside broccolini, gratin, and demi-glaze. the filet was cooked exactly as it should be, tender, flavorful, and a generous portion that was perfect for sharing, while the short rib delivered that deep, slow-braised richness you expect, adding both contrast and depth to the plate. The gratin was perfectly executed with just the right texture, and the demi-glaze tied everything together without overwhelming the natural flavors of the meat. Every element on the plate had a purpose, which is something you don't always find, even in restaurants that try to present themselves as fine dining in Southern Oregon. This wasn't just a good meal, it was a thoughtfully executed dining experience from start to finish. Between Chef Todd's refined, layered cuisine and Daniella's rising presence as Maître d', this Jacksonville restaurant stands out by doing something increasingly rare, letting skill, experience, and exceptional local ingredients take center stage. There's no need for foams, smoke, or culinary theatrics here. No distractions, no gimmicks, just precision, balance, and a level of refinement that speaks for itself. We'll absolutely continue to enjoy this gem in Jacksonville, Oregon and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for one of the best restaurants in Southern Oregon for a true fine dining experience.

We we're all shocked at how rude she was. It's not like we were going to buy the baby a beer? But, all of the girls started to walk out and I asked the bartender if I could just have a drink while they all waited outside. She said she wasn't going to serve me and that I needed to leave right then. There were a few other customers that stood up for us and told the bartender she was being rude. The service is good, we've been there with our family and with a large group, and they have always been very patient and friendly. Alchemy is in my top 3 favorite places for a dressy dinner when we are visiting Ashland. The only slightly negative thing I have to say is that we were there celebrating a birthday once and at the end of the meal our server brought out a candle on a small, flat ceramic dish. The birthday girl's comment was, "You just spent $300 on dinner and all they brought me for my birthday was a candle?" It seemed a little chintzy since most places will give you an actual dessert, not just a candle, but at least they brought a candle. Other than that tiny little thing, we still love to eat here and will be back when visiting in the future.

The latter changes seasonally--in our case it was a dashi broth with a variety of local mushrooms and vegetables. Both dishes were good, with my steak cooked perfectly and the mashed potatoes amazingly creamy without tasting too buttery; the dashi broth was delicious as well. We also split the steak tartare, the house bread, and the chips & dip (seasonal special) as appetizers. With the exception of the chips & dip, the appetizers were good but nothing outstanding. The chips & dip, however, were REALLY GOOD! I did not know you could elevate potato chips like that, but their house-made chips are delicious and I would highly recommend trying them. Both my fiancé and I were not a huge fan of the sauce (just a little too creamy, it's really smooth though so if you like creamy sauces you'll probably enjoy it!), but just eating the plain chips was amazing. They even brought us a second serving of chips for free since we hadn't used all of the dip! We also ordered a pear tart for dessert which I would also recommend getting! Delicious crust and good pear flavor.
