Excellent and very authentic Thai place that occupies the space formerly used by another Thai place (Arunee) which moved a block away. I came here for the great lunch special and was surprised how nice the decor looked. It is very classy and modern with a bar area. Their lunch special is only $6.95 (vegetarian or chicken) or $7.95 (beef) for an entree that comes with an appetizer. The selection of appetizers is varied as well and includes items such as curry puffs, spring rolls, roti, soup or salad. The entree selection as well has something for everyone with noodles, curries, and rice dishes all offered. We opted for the pad thai and pad priew wan. The pad thai noodles were not too sweet or spicy - just the right amount of flavor. The waitstaff here was very friendly and will offer to have the dishes made to cater to your tastes. The pad priew wan is not a dish you often find in Thai places. It is a rice dish with meat sauteed with pineapple, tomato, and sweet and sour sauce. I found the flavor of it to be very rich and interesting. This place in general had many dishes you will not find in other (more Americanized) Thai places. Kitchen79 is the place to be for Thai food. When I say this was the best Thai food I've ever had, I am not joking!! @kitchen79nyc is a cute Thai spot located in the Jackson Heights area in Queens. The @kitchen79nyc has the kindest staff and gracefully took care of our party of 7 post graduation day. To start, we ordered the vegetable dumplings, chicken wings, and Tom Yum soup. Everything was perfectly spiced and the flavors really melted in your mouth. To help cut the spice, we ordered an array of drinks. This included, the red and white sangria, Thai iced coffee, Thai iced tea, and lastly, Sake. The star drink that day was Thai iced tea. To continue with the main courses, we ordered chicken pad Thai, basil fried rice, and green curry with shrimp. No food remained on the table when it came time to collect the dishes. All in all, excellent service, food, and the overall ambiance was quiet and calm. Saw all these great reviews of the place so thought I would take advantage of their lunch specials while I'm still in the area. Ordered for pick up and was told it would be ready in 15 minutes. Btw you can't redeem the check in offer for lychee mimosa's for pickup. It's a dine in perk only. So the curry puff was decent. It wasn't crunchy anymore but that's okay. The pad see ew with chicken was okay too. The star of the dish was honestly the flavor of the noodles. The chicken was on the dry side and the vegetables didn't taste that great. My family and I went there today for lunch, we sat down, and the server was so rude! It's not the first time my husband, baby and I went and we never had a problem. But today we had to leave. The server was so mean, telling us that it wasn't ok to have the stroller by the side of our table (our baby was sleeping inside the stroller). I asked him if we can have another table so we don't bother anybody. He reacted with a nasty expression and said, "No, you are there already." Now this is where the complete bs starts....the host comes back with little bit of chicken, asked us to taste it. We did and it was fine in regards to the spice level. When I think of Jackson heights, I've always just gone for Filipino food or Spanish food. But my friends and I were craving Thai food and came across this Kitchen 79. Cute little restaurant tucked away in the corner of 79th street and Broadway! Though we were disappointed to find that there was no lunch special or drinks offer because it was a holiday (President's day), we were still delighted by the quality of our meals. I always resort to pad see ew because it's one of my favorites but this time my husband got it and I ordered pad woon sen, which is made with glass noodles, eggs, ear mushrooms, chives, and I got it with chicken. I really enjoyed my dish. It wasn't spicy but it had a pepper kick to it. The vermicelli wasn't dried and I devoured the dish in minutes! Hubby liked the pad see ew- surprisingly some Thai places can't make a good one as it can easily be too salty but this one was sweet and a good balance of meat to noodles. We also got the Thai iced coffee which came in a huge hug/cup and was delicious. My personal favorite that ended our meal was the lychee creme brulee. Wow! If I can make a dessert like that I'd want to open up my own shop too. It has the perfect texture and taste of a great creme brulee but with surprising chunks of lychee that add a surprisingly element to this popular dessert. I would get it again next time! read more

Let me start off by saying I love Thai food so I am always looking for new and good Thai spots and I am so happy I found this gem! I live in Long Island and I made the trek over here because I've been dying to try it for some time now and wow was it worth it. The ambiance and decor amazing. The inside is mostly black and white but from the tiles on the floor to the cool metal chandeliers I love the decor. They also have a flower wall inside and outside. We sat inside but outside is very warm and welcoming. Now let's get to the food and drinks! I love lychee and they had a red lychee sangria! I mean wine plus lychee what's not to love! And their Thai ice tea came in this huge cup which I was so happy about because I couldn't drink enough! For appetizer we had the calamari and the geoy hot cheese which is similar to crab Rangoon. Calamari was great not too much breading and perfectly cooked not chewy. I then had the phad ka prow medium spicy with tofu and shrimp and wow the flavor was just great! The kick in the sauce just made the dish. Service was good as well. Food came out nice and hot and we were seated very quickly. Definitely one of my new go to Thai spots! I'm late to the party with this one. Standing at 4.5 stars with over 580 reviews, Kitchen 79 deserved my attention. Kitchen 79 does have the small, cozy restaurant feel to it. I prefer the full ethnic decorative style, so I must say I was a little underwhelmed by the interior design choices. The food and presentation, however knocked it out the park. Starters included the fried calamari, in addition the Ya Ma Mong, which is basically the mango salad with shrimp. For the main course, I ended up with the monster sized Pla nung manow (steamed fish with spicy lime sauce) with a side of sticky rice and she the curry chicken with white rice. We couldn't be happier with the dinner choices, as everything was fantastic. I must critique the service, the waiter was a little lento considering it is such a small place. For those in the Jackson Heights area, you have a neighborhood gem that impresses with great tasting food and presentation schematics. TLDR; Good food, different proteins have different tenderness (aka texture), service good but hasty to take away silverware. I arrived around 7:30 at night on Christmas Eve and there was no wait for a table. We were sat down right away and we noticed how clean and well decorated the restaurant is. There aren't a lot of tables but the other people that came after us did not have to wait. We order beef satay and thought the beef was on the chewier end. The satay sauce was not what we expected (we've been to a number of Thai places in different regions before). The app was all right but I wouldn't order it again. While we were waiting for our entrees, the waitress took away our silverware despite not being done eating the appetizer. I'm guessing this was in preparation for the entree but we were dipping the satay beef into the sauce while they were doing this, so I found this rather weird. We ordered a plate of pad see ew with pork and a bowl of Khao soi, replacing the chicken for fried tofu. The pad see ew tasted good, saltier than we are used to and less sweet tasting. The khao soi was delicious and a reasonable level of spice. While the bowl didn't look like much, there were a lot of noodles and add-ins inside. I was pleasantly surprised by the pickled veggies inside. I ended up not being able to finish and had to get it packed to go (still tasted great the next day!). It wasn't a super long wait after but no one checked in with us after we got our dishes or after we were done eating. I had a bit of trouble flagging someone down to get the check, but after I did the process was smooth and they said bye and thanks to us on our way out. read more

My mouth was on fire. Khao soi and duck were both very good. I didn't realize the restaurant had a few recognitions before coming but I can see why they do now. We ended the night with lychee crème brûlée - it was crème brûlée with lychee bits mixed in but still very nice and creamy and not too sweet, just the way I like it. There weren't many other people eating there, so my friend and I had our choice of seating. Their menu is very extensive, so you will definitely find something that suits your appetite. The service was very quick and everything we ordered was delicious. Plus, they serve huge portions, so come hungry! They have good Thai iced tea, and plenty of vegetarian options, or dishes they can easily make with your choice of meat or tofu. I didn't even second guess to say yes. Other than that, we had the Tom Kha and my friend ordered a fried rice. The food looks aesthetically pleasing and actually resembles the picture. And that Ka Nom Jeen Gang Tai Pla is NO JOKE spicy! I tell you it's not for the faint-hearted. Did I enjoy it though? You bet I very much did! The papaya salad was delicious. However, they messed up my order and gave me 2 guay tiew singapores and no pad thai. It's a shame to arrive home an hour later to see that they fudged the order. With no pad thai, the resulting guay tiew singapore that I ended up eating was sub-par. The angel hair noodles were broken, clumped into dry chunks, and lacking in flavor. I'm going to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that this mistake doesn't happen too often. It's definitely something I will be concerned about if I order from them again since the size of my current order wasn't large to begin with. They got the spice level right and it was real duck not mock duck. The curry; however, was no masman. On their menu, the have a duck in red curry entree. It's not hard to see why Kitchen 79 has become one of the most popular Thai establishments in the borough.They have a robust staff, a sexy / contemporary ambiance, and serve beautifully presented food. They've done just enough to separate themselves from the Woodside competition, all while becoming part of the awesome dining scene in Jackson Heights. In some ways, they're sort of like the Blend restaurants of Astoria / LIC but the Thai version. Food wise, everything is beautifully plated and the trendy undertones are perfect for the average Instagrammer / food pornographer. Thankfully, most everything tastes as good as it looks. Some of the standouts include their yum wonsen (glass noodle salad), their dark colored pad sei ew, ten ta fu (spicy red curry soup), ka nom jeen gang tai pla (shrimp curry with rice noodles), and their jumbo white crab fried rice. I would feel comfortable recommending the entire menu honestly, especially their massive Thai iced teas. Good Thai fare doesn't come cheap unfortunately, at least not at K79. Most entrees are a good $3+ compared to most Thai establishments in the area. The portions are debatable as well, while not being too small but certainly not entirely abundant either. This alone might be a turn off for some folks, but the primary focus is flavor and not portion. Service is spot on. I've never had an issue with the staff or even the speed of my food (notable issues with even the best Thai restaurants) but I think the best approach is to order a number of dishes for sharing to get a true taste of what they do best.
