My older sister took me here to lunch. I must say that the service here is exceptional. The ambiance is floral in a subdued jungle-themed-sort-of-way. Everything is neat and tidy and organized. The lunch menu, available from from 11:30 to 3pm is phenomenal with a salad, appetizer and entree for $15-17. In addition to our lunch menu items, we also ordered other dishes as well. Everything was top-notch; I will be back.
Came here with friends yesterday, we ordered tamarind prawn, duck curry, pineapple fried rice with chicken. Pleasantly surprised with the quality here. Everything was not bad. Would definitely like to try their other dishes. The prawn and duck were off of their recommended menu list. They were pretty solid. Overall, I'd come back and try other dishes maybe a padthai.
Great to have found a delicious Thai option near the train station, without having to trek all the way to Elmhurst! The dishes were all delicious, and pricing is just as reasonable as the Elmhurst places. The softshell crab mango salad was my personal favorite, as the dish is very generous with the protein here. Plus the mangos were the succulent sweet kind, which really complemented the fried crabs! One note is that all of their drinks are on the too sweet side, but I think that is just the style of may Thai restaurants in the area!
Ate here today by myself after work as a paraprofessional at P.S. 12 Q. I had ordered and ate the crab rangoons and Thai fried rice that it had tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive and super fast. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time.
In the area between Sunnyside and Flushing I've tried probably a dozen Thai restaurants. This was my first time at Kitchen 79, took the family. Decor is very clean and modern looking. It has large booths but also the smaller date tables, so good for families and couples. We went with calamari and a fried fish cake, both of which were good, not great but it's fried food at a Thai restaurant. If it was an American restaurant I would call it great, but for Thai I have higher expectations. Now we got the hotpot size of Tom Yum, and boy was it Yum-my! Probably my favorite Tom yum I've had in the past decade. (There's a restaurant in Pittsburgh that's really good). The flat noodle dish was amazing and the green curry was also very good. The waitstaff was extremely kind and helpful. They were so attentive and checked on us multiple times. This will be my favorite spot in the elmhurst area.
My go to place when I'm craving for Thai food in the area. It's a great place to eat with friends or on your own for a solo date! This place is giving calm, cozy, vibes and they have a bar area as well. The staff members are all friendly and service is always a great time. I love going there when it's Happy Hour and if alcohol is not your choice beverage, the Thai iced tea hits the right spot c: Whether it's lunch specials, or happy hours or when it's not even a special, this place has reasonable prices and the food is delicious! Ordered the Gang Phed Ped Yang (crispy duck in red curry, pineapple, lychee, bell pepper) and Prawn Tamarind (fried onion, cashews, bell pepper, side salad) which were both part of the recommended list as well as an order of pineapple fried rice. The first 2 dishes also came with sides of rice. Everything was delicious. My favorite was the crispy duck dish. I never had lychee in a meal before and it was a fun combination. The interior is very cute and perfect for date night. I will be coming back again.
Sometimes, the best restaurants aren't so easily seen. Had to use GPS to locate this spot but that would be the only mere grievance I have of this place for the rest of the experience was pleasant and lovely. For starters, the waitresses are very accommodating, so much so to the point that I'd only have to make a slight gesture to get their attention and they have been very helpful for their service. If I could give more than 5 stars I certainly would for their effort. The place inside is very cozy and slightly lit, giving an intimate feel. It really gives a date night type of feel, if only I had a woman to take with me to this place but I digress. The food was absolutely marvelous. I had fried chicken (Thai Style), a salad with the best thousand island dressing I've had on it, sticky rice which was definitely true to its name along with some sweet heat sauce which gives the rice a Supreme kick in flavor. Oh I also had a mocktail as well, Pink Paradise I think it was called which is basically a mix between a daiquiri and sprite. Goes down pretty nice as a carbonated drink would. I liked this place from the ladies taking my order to the food that was a pleasure to have. I will definitely return here.
This place is Michelin mentioned so we were intrigued. Unfortunately we decided to stop by on our way out and parking in this area is nightmarish for out of towners. We ordered the chicken satay, Panang curry, & pad basil with crispy pork. Panang curry was delicious, they add green beans which was tasty. Pad basil is a must try, that spicy and sweet from the curry is a pleasant combo. Crispy pork is delicious. Chicken satay was great, peanut sauce was a little spicy and the cucumber salad was sweet and vinegary. I didn't get picture of everything. Food was so delicious. Staff was very kind.
I am Thai-American so I have the luxury of eating Thai food everyday at home and I've been to Thailand several times. I am grateful for this because I LOVE Thai food but this also makes me skeptical of eating Thai food in restaurants because I know how Thai food is supposed to taste like. And also I don't feel the need to eat out at Thai restaurants because why spend money on Thai food when I can just eat it at home? Anyway, at the beginning of 2024, I hung out with friends and we ate at a Thai restaurant in Manhattan and I was extremely disappointed. The dishes were too sweet and didn't taste like authentic Thai food. It gave me the impression that possibly Thai restaurants in Manhattan are trying to appeal to the taste buds and palate of Americans which makes me so sad because I would rather have foreigners know Thai food for how it actually tastes, not the dumbed-down Americanized version. Several months have past and me and my family were in the Jackson Heights area trying to find a place to eat at. I decided on Kitchen 79 since it has pretty good reviews and I wanted to give Thai food in NYC another chance. I'm so happy to say that this place gave me hope for the Thai food scene in NYC. The flavors were on point; there was a mix of salty, sweet, sour, spicy, bitter, just overall savory which is how Thai food is supposed to be. I was ecstatic that nothing on the menu tasted extremely sweet and also, the dishes tasted authentic! Although the food wasn't as savory as I preferred and wasn't 100% authentic like at home or back in Thailand, I will say that Kitchen 79 is a good introduction to someone who has never had Thai food before. In fact, if I were to recommend someone a Thai restaurant, I would tell them to go to Queens, don't go to Manhattan. Queens has way more authentic and affordable Thai restaurants, Manhattan is clearly for tourists. The server at Kitchen 79 was also so nice and accommodating, I would definitely return to this place in the future! We ordered their fried fish, mango salad, pineapple fried rice with shrimp, curry puffs, spring rolls, thai iced tea, crab rangoon, and tod mun goong (fried shrimp cakes), and everything was absolutely delicious. I was very satisfied with the food and service here. Lastly, their Thai iced tea was to die for!!! I felt like I was in heaven after my first sip LMAO. I love it when a food spot makes Thai iced tea correct.
Thai done right! Ready, set, RUNNN to Kitchen 79 for some amazing & authentic Thai food. Whether it's lunch or dinner, this place never disappoints. Went to Jackson Heights and tried out Kitchen 79! The staff was super friendly and patient. I went on a Saturday night around 7PM and there was lots of seating. I ordered the curry puffs which was a 5/10. They were a little cold. I also ordered the Pad Kee Mao with Shrimp (medium spice level). I should have gotten it spicier because the spice was not too hot. The food was made fresh and I enjoyed that the peppers were sliced more thin. It costs around $18 with the shrimp. It was a 7/10. Decent portion if you are not super hungry.

I tried their food couple of times. Although their reviews are unbelievable high! I find other Thai restaurants nearby more authentic. A bit too sweet overall and I guess in the neighborhood there are many better Thai food options so I won't say I would recommend:( read more
Food is okay, overall nothing special. I like the crab fried rice with the spicy seafood sauce. The glass noodle is mediocre, too little seafood for that much noodle. I don't really like their curry puff. Tom yum is okay. Menu has a lot of optons and pice is pretty cheap read more
Came here for Friday night dinner around 5:45pm. Customer service is good. Food portions are big. We really enjoyed the curry puffs and egg rolls with glass noodles & vegetables. I got the green curry and it was decent. A bit on the watery side but fine. My friend really liked the red curry. My other friend found the duck in tamarind sauce really sweet. But if you add the spices/hot sauce you are good to go. The thai iced tea is huge! And the white berry sangria tasted like juice. Not too bad! read more
This was on the second stop of our food tour so we weren't as hungry, but the food was still delicious and addicting, which is saying a lot. We ordered the kana moo krob (pork belly over greens) and the pad see ew with shrimp. Both were fantastic dishes. I'll come back to try the calamari and basil fried rice. read more
Was looking for Ramen Spot for a quick date night with the man. Instead of going to our regular spot in Forest Hills I decided to look for something new. After using Yelp search engine for spicy Ramen I landed on the spot. Ambience is cute it wasn't busy when I walked in. I wouldn't recommend it for the drinks although you can beat the seven dollar sangria but the food is absolutely outstanding. The only bad part was my noodles seemed slightly overcooked and Coagulated. By the way if you do order the spicy dish make sure you get the Thai iced tea to go with it thank me later Couldn't finish everything so definitely took the remainder of my broth added some chicken stock and my own noodles when I got home still at top level of spicy and delicious. read more

Kitchen 79 is a super cute restaurant with great calamari. While I'm a bigger fan of marinara sauce with my calamari Kitchen 79 seems to have perfected Asian calamari. The battering on the calamari has the perfect seasoning and the spicy mayo pairs perfectly. My friends and I also really enjoy their crab ragoons. There are also a lot of other great things on the menu like the fried spring rolls and fried rice. The only thing that I didn't fully enjoy was the chicken wings which were a bit dry. There is both indoor and outdoor seating and even a cute floral photo backdrop outside. Inside the restaurant is sleek. The workers also are so sweet and always make sure that all the dishes are great. This is a great spot in Jackson Heights and also one of the easiest to remember the location of (Kitchen 79 is on 79th st) read more
Yum! Good Thai place with a really nice ambiance/decor. Good place for date night or maybe dinner with friends. Prices aren't unreasonable, I got the green curry and it was pretty good. I didn't think it was anything super special or amazing flavor wise but it was pretty good and a little bit spicy. I would go here again for any Thai cravings that I have. Have always loved this place and have been frequenting it for over 6 years. The level of service and quality of food hasn't changed. The prices are so affordable and make a great date night spot for 2 and you can definitely be full for 50$ with entrees apps and drinks! I have only ordered for pickup from them once and didn't have any issues. It sucks that their delivery isn't great from other reviews but in person is amazing. They have great lunch special deals and dinner is super affordable as well. read more

During a Saturday lunch 2 pm. Service was great, my glass of water is always refilled when it's out. Waiter noticed that I need more napkins after having the fried chicken appetizer. Food taste is authentic Thai so it will be very interesting for some especially with the bamboo shoots on the pad kee mao. Fried chicken was a dry everything else is like 3.5 to 4. read more

Let's keep it real here Nice higher end Thai food place for Jackson Heights. Outside isn't impressive but the inside is pretty decked out. The food is pretty authentic, service is average, price isn't competitive, overall experience is still good. 2nd time eating there, will probably try other Thai places next time. read more
This place was on my try list for a while and we finally did a few Fridays ago. No reservation needed, we walked in and were seated right away. The place was busy but service was good. I got their thai iced tea which was huge and so so good. We started with the curry puffs and then got the pad basil with chicken (added eggplant) and also tried the had yai fried chicken. The pad basil was really good, it was flavorful and juicy and just enough to take home some leftovers. The fried chicken was good but nothing special, my husband did wish he had gotten something else instead. I tried it and it was lacking some seasoning. We ended with the chocolate molten cake with matcha ice cream. It was good but the matcha ice cream was of low quality, it did not taste like matcha at all. Overall we did enjoy our meal and would definitely go back. read more

Always a solid choice for Thai food for me--4.5/5. The pad see ew is usually my go-to with the occasional pad Thai. The portions are generally fair, sometimes a little on the smaller side or less meat for the times I ordered the lunch special. With that said, the food is decently priced. The only small minus is that the food tends to be slightly on the saucy/salty side often. There is a nicely decorated outdoor enclosed dining space. I haven't dined in yet, but the indoor space is quite spacious as well. read more

Two stars off because the service is short as in curt and that there's only one server in sight most of the time (which is probably why she's curt!) And the place is dark inside and feels cramped. The rest of the stars are all for the food! Always a favorite is the fried whole fish, that incorporates the whole fish for presentation, but the fish is actually breaded and fried in big chunks. All the staples like pad Thai, fried rice and curries are A+++. Flavorful without being too salty or oily, colorful and fun to share! And if you are up for a spicy challenge, try the Michelin-rated Ka Nom Jeen Gai Tai Pla. We had a couple of spice lovers in our group, and this dish was pure fire! read more

Unarguably the best, outstanding Thai food restaurant in West Queens e.g. Jackson Heights, Woodside, Rego Park, Forest Hills, etc., as far as I know, and one of the best in NYC. I'd rate Kitchen 79 even higher than a well-known restaurant in Woodside, which I think is popular partly because their portions are unusually big. I like the friendly atmosphere, too! read more

Delicious Thai dishes in a lovely setting! The current lunch special menu is also good value and quick. My Pad Basil was listed as spicy but was not burning hot, more like a tasty tingle. read more
This place is a GREAT Thai place in the neighborhood! The decor is cute and the staff is friendly. The food really brings it home though. Everything is prepared very well. We started off with the papaya salad which is one of my favorites and what I judge Thai food on. Well, this may be the best papaya salad I've ever had! The flavor was great and not too fishy. I also had the wild boar curry which also had great flavor. Why they didn't get 5-stars: This needs a 4.5-star rating because they're near perfect. I ordered the wild boar dish because I wanted something a little different. The sauce was great but it overshadowed the boar a bit and the eggplant was a bit undercooked for my taste. read more

Went to this place preCovid and recently returned, it didn't disappoint with a family member. Clean, cozy Thai restaurant providing good service and delicious food. We had the pineapple fried rice, a fish with garlic sauce, small salad, a curry puff and creme brulee. Totally recommend, will return again in the near future. read more

I tried the Salmon Three Flavors and it was really good, the service was amazing; very cordially and friendly. I definitely recommend this spot to everyone. I also ordered Spring Rolls, Chicken Dumplings, and Moscato Wine, outstanding flavors, especially with the dash of spice. It was deadass delicious. read more
Excellent and very authentic Thai place that occupies the space formerly used by another Thai place (Arunee) which moved a block away. I came here for the great lunch special and was surprised how nice the decor looked. It is very classy and modern with a bar area. Their lunch special is only $6.95 (vegetarian or chicken) or $7.95 (beef) for an entree that comes with an appetizer. The selection of appetizers is varied as well and includes items such as curry puffs, spring rolls, roti, soup or salad. The entree selection as well has something for everyone with noodles, curries, and rice dishes all offered. We opted for the pad thai and pad priew wan. The pad thai noodles were not too sweet or spicy - just the right amount of flavor. The waitstaff here was very friendly and will offer to have the dishes made to cater to your tastes. The pad priew wan is not a dish you often find in Thai places. It is a rice dish with meat sauteed with pineapple, tomato, and sweet and sour sauce. I found the flavor of it to be very rich and interesting. This place in general had many dishes you will not find in other (more Americanized) Thai places. These include dishes like yum woon sen (glass noodle salad), khao soi (northern Thai soup) and jungle curry. Definitely give this place a try. read more
