This was my second time at Kippo Ramen. The first time I had it I did take out during the pandemic. It's located right across the street from Broadway Market. You can almost miss it. It's super cozy inside - very Japanese in the smallness. The staff is super friendly and can answer any questions as the menu is quite extensive. It's not just ramen although that is in their namesake. On this rainy day the joint was packed! I got the signature black and red tonkotsu ramen with corn and bamboo shoot added. The portions are big and hearty the only complaint I had was half the ramen was room temp and the other half was hot. I like hmmm ramen to be piping! The chicken karage was also lovely, perfectly fried. Also interesting was the sweet potato roll. The wasabi was super watery but most wasabi we get at restaurants isn't real anyway. went to kippo twice and v glad I gave it a second chance. i wasn't a fan after my first time but I think it's bc I ordered the chicken broth ramen, which was not hitting the spot. during my recent visit, I ordered the tonkotsu black (no green onion) which was so much better! the broth was delicious and rich and the black garlic oil gave it an extra kick of flavor. the noodles were cooked well and you can also change them to wavy ones at no cost which I appreciate. each tonkotsu comes w a few toppings already (pork chashu, bean sprouts, kikurage mushrooms, egg, and green onion) which I like bc other places usually charge extra for certain toppings! i replaced the pork chashu w chicken chashu and it was p tender! my friend ordered the tonkotsu black & red and it seemed like she was a fan! they were also playing studio ghibli movie scenes on the wall which made for a v cute vibe. the workers were v friendly and checked up on us occasionally, even making small talk here & there. you can also pay the bill through your phone (by scanning the QR code on the receipt) which is more convenient than waiting for the server to come back to pick up your card, etc. read more

For ramen, this place is pretty good! Conveniently located just a block from the water in Harbor East. We got big, delicious bowls of ramen for very reasonable prices. You can't go wrong with tonkotsu or spicy shoyu. Both come with generous toppings and very good portions. The chicken kara-age, which is lightly fried chicken, is also very tasty. You want some amazing ramen and amazing service....this is your place then!! Walked in and was immediately greeted, then seated once they knew how much was in my party. (Such state this is a review pre-Covid experience) The vibe of the restaurant was very laid back and the music was nice as well. Oh and do you like anime??? Well if that's a yes they do have it playing on the screens. Reviewing the menu, the prices are very reasonable as well! We decided to order Spicy Shoyu Ramen withchicken and additional corn, some Curry Vegetarian Shio, Vegetarian Ramen, and some Ebi-something...I can't remember how to spell the amazing balls that we ate but they are pictured and so darn delicious!! Kippo Ramen is a great spot to hit up whenever you have a ramen craving. I went recently during COVID, and the process was really easy. I called ahead to minimize time that I would have to wait and my food was ready to go when promised. I didn't have to go far past the door because I was greeted at the register by a staff member. I prefer the sesame soup. The soup is savory and delicious and it's easy just to drink it alone. The noodles were still yummy even though I got it to go. Great ramen, good service, reasonable price. We don't eat pork so it's difficult to find a non pork ramen alternative but Kippo Ramen has plenty of options. We started with the Chicken Karaage which reminded me of a fancier fresher version of McDonald's chicken nuggets because of the breading, served with honey mustard which was a nice pairing. For the mains we got Miso Ramen with chicken and Spicy Shoyu Ramen (3rd spice level, I think spicy) with chicken. The spicy does live up to its name so only order if you can handle and enjoy spice. Both broths were flavorful but I prefer the miso as it was a bit thicker. The chicken in the ramen actually had crispy skin. The noodles were the right amount of firm served with a perfectly boiled egg. I'd like to try the Creamy Shio next time. Great local ramen shop, would be perfect on a food winter night. I walking around Baltimore harbor area and looking for some soups and yes I see this restaurant. It's couple block from water front. I ordered spicy ramen with pork and try to order more but they're told me you maybe full just wait for that. And yes I full just 1 ramen. Meaning it big enough for me and pretty good full. Best ramen I have had in Baltimore. After living in DC (right down the street from Toki), I have had trouble finding good ramen in Baltimore (I have now lived here for 3 years!). After a few recommendations, we decided to hit up Kippo and I am glad we did. The outside is unassuming in Fells and the inside is relaxed and warm. We ordered Pork Gyoza to start. It was great and the star of this dish was the sauce, I would like to dip my life in that sauce. I ordered the Spicy Shoyu Ramen, which was pork in a chicken broth with wavy noodles. My husband had the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen, pork in pork broth with straight noodles. Both had other elements to them, but these were the main ingredients. Both were great, but we both agreed that mine was the better of the two dishes. One recommendation I would make is to just keep a pitcher of water at the tables. The glasses are small and if anyone is like me - you gulp down the h20 when slurping on a spicy and delicious bowl of ramen. They definitely know what they are doing and they kept the same level of quality and service since they opened. All the things we tried on their menu were excellent. When you try a basic food item like a donburi that has three things (rice, meat, and scallions), each ingredient is so crucial and it has to be perfect. Well, nothing fell short of my expectation. Can we talk about how delicious their ramen is? Noodles are cooked to perfection. Pork slices are tender and juicy. Not porky and smelly at all which takes skills and experience to handle. First, I'm from the SF Bay area, and we are spoiled by really high quality food especially Japanese. Having had the ramen in the Bay area, I couldn't figure out how Kippo got a 4.5 star rating. Black Tonkotsu - we ordered the curly taken which is supposed to be more chewy, it's not chewy. It may be the just chewy available there but it's not chewy by any standard. The soup lack of depth. It lacks the sophistication of flavor. You will taste some saltiness but not pork bone flavor. Lacks intensity. Black ramen means black garlic flavor but there is no garlic flavor at all. Quite disappointing to be honest. My wife ordered the sesame shio. She was so disappointed cause she paid extra for the sesame but not only she barely see any sesame, it doesn't taste like sesame. I tasted the soup base it's the same as mine, lack of character nor depth Chicken karage - the mustard sauce reminds me of McDonalds. The karage itself uses flour batter or egg batter. Japanese karage normally use corn or potatoes starch as batter so it's crispy yet no doughy texture. And often you add some flavor to the starch it'll be tasty and crispy. The ramen is definitely worth it for it's price. I'd recommend the donkatsu black & red with the spicy on the side! That way you can try it without the spice and then also measure how much spice you want to add afterwards. Curry tonkatsu ramen also smelled really good. I haven't actually been to Kippo, but I got delivery from there while sick, and the spicy sesame shio ramen was perfect and comforting during my illness! As a vegetarian who often encounters ramen places with only meat-based broths, I really appreciate that they have several options for vegetable-based broths. Whenever I am in the city and am craving ramen, this is my go to place! They have the best spicy tonkotsu and takoyaki!

Upon entering, I was immediately attracted to the stylish and relaxed vibe of the venue. Based on the atmosphere, I would say it is a good place to go eat with a group of friends on a casual outing.  There were a lot of choices to make on the menu, from broth type to add ins, so the waitress was really patient with me as I asked a ton of questions! We  ended up ordering the Classic Shoyu and Spicy Shoyu Ramens, and I have to admit, both were a tiny bit bland for my liking- even the spicy one. There was no WOW factor for me that made this place a unique option for this type of cuisine- maybe I need to try a different broth next time. Furthermore, they just pack in A LOT in the bowl which was very filling but the lack of piquancy made the entree quite cumbersome to finish. When returning to this restaurant, we tried out the Tonkotsu Ramen and the Curry Tonkotsu Ramen, pairing it with a Peach Jpop soda. I have to say this experience was vastly different and significantly better than the first- I have no qualms about the pork broth- it was decently flavorful. It changed the food aspect of this place for me all together.  My experience goes to show the importance of perfecting your individualized order! As there are very few ramen places in Baltimore, I would say give this one a go- especially if you are good with the pork broth based entrees! read more

Actually, if you've ever been to Utsuke Ramen which is right down by the inner harbor, these two places have a lot in common though I liked kippo a little bit more. I got the spicy chicken paitan which was my first time ever ordering chicken ramen. I usually get the tonkatsu whenever I'd go. Chicken was slightly dry but had good flavor. I went with the straight noodles which was a good choice, always. The broth was pretty good but not remarkable. Id give this dish 7.5/10. My partner got the curry tonkatsu and fell in love. He said hands down this is so far the best ramen that he's ever had so 10/10! Sean was our server who was super nice and friendly. He recommended the gyoza but we wanted to try something different, so we went with the ebiyaki. Should've gone with the gyoza lol but it's ok. The shrimp to dough ratio was a bit slim. It was more like fried dough balls with a lil shrimp but nothing special. This is an adorable Ramen spot located close to Broadway market in Fells point area in Baltimore. It's within walking distance from the water so you can definitely walk along the water enjoy the view and then come and eat some delicious hot noodles. The food is yummy and the service is quick. They do take reservations on the phone, but you could also get there, ask for a table, go for a walk, and then come back and eat. They have both sushi and Ramen. They said they also had milk tea, but the milk tea comes from a can so I ended up not trying that. The soup that came with the noodles was delicious and I took home my leftover noodles to fry them to eat the next day. read more

Came to visit the Baltimore area with a few friends over the weekend and stumbled onto this place. Got the spicy tonkatsu ramen with black garlic oil (extra add on). Broth was really yummy - right amount of spice and the black garlic oil added a depth of flavor that I really enjoyed! Great recommendation from one of the waitresses. Unfortunately, the pork belly was not tender at all. I've had much better elsewhere. The egg was pretty good. I wish there was more toppings in the ramen too. Service was pretty quick and the staff consistently came around to fill our waters. One of them was even nice enough to charge my phone for me while I ate! Amazing service! They had Miyazaki films playing in the background which was a nice Japanese touch that I really enjoyed! I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kippo Ramen a few weeks ago! My dance team went out to dinner; Kippo doesn't take reservations but I called ahead and the person I spoke with was really helpful and said he'd keep an eye out for a table that seats 10 until we come in! Parking in this area is tricky, but I recommend looking for open, free parking spots a couple blocks down. The walk is not bad (even in the rain like my experience)! Right off the bat, I'll say MAJOR KUDOS to our extremely patient and kind waiter, Patrick! You can imagine how getting a group of 10 chatty, excited girls can get difficult to coordinate and manage. Patrick was very kind and helpful throughout our entire dining experience, from taking our order, checking in, getting us water, and splitting the check! The few of us who arrived on time munched on some appetizers-- I opted for edamame. It was delicious! For the ramen portion, I ordered the sesame shio ramen with tofu, without nori, with fresh garlic, and with vegan noodles. I'm always glad to see vegan noodle options offered at ramen places! The ramen was excellent-- fresh ingredients, unique taste, and rich flavor! I will, without a doubt, return to Kippo to try their other ramen offerings. This place was absolutely cute. There is a wait usually so if you can make a reservation ahead of time I would recommend it. They do have two large tables were multiple parties can share it and about 5 booths that fit parties of 4. They were playing Spirited Away which made me so happy inside My rating of the wings are 5 stars they were absolutely amazing and perfectly crispy while juicy inside. I do wish the wings were tossed in the sauce rather than the sauce be on the side though. My rating on the Ramen is why I took off 1 star The Ramen is good but I've definitely had better. I felt that it had flavor but need more salt or maybe even season the meat differently. I've had Ramen in different states and countries and I can confidently say I've had better. This place is AMAZING! Located in the quaint Fleet St of Baltimore, this place gives you an authentic feel of Japan. Ok, ok - I am not an expert by any means on Japanese food but I judged based on these facts: 1. The sushi is legit. We ordered the tuna roll and fish was fresh and soft. And the roll was 3/4 fish vs more rice, so we knew they weren't messing around. A restaurant that invests in good sushi is good for us! 2. There is an option to order extra noodles for the picky eaters. I would recommend getting extra broth too! 3. The karaage came out hot! So yummy!
