Some other Yelper wrote that Kanoon is like American barbecue blended with Middle Eastern flavor. That's spot-on! What a unique restaurant that checks all of the boxes for me: a creative menu, delicious food, fast and attentive but not obtrusive service, and a relaxing and nicely decorated dining room (with music, but not at all loud!). Kanoon specializes in slow-cooked smoked meats, but they also have a lot of vegetarian offerings. There's something for all eaters here. But I wasn't here to eat vegetarian: They have the meats, and I was here for the meats. I got the Kanoon Grilled Chicken Platter, which is marinated grilled chicken served over rice and drizzled with boom sauce (like a mayo-based sweet and spicy chili sauce). Think arroz con pollo, but with a Middle Eastern flair. It was amazing. The chicken is so juicy and tender that I could smash it down with my fork and it almost disintegrated. And the rice was perfectly cooked and just slightly spicy. This dish is a big portion. I couldn't finish it, so I took the rest home to eat for dinner. I'm not a leftovers eater, so you have to know that if I take food home to eat later, it has to be spectacular. And guess what: It tastes just as great reheated! We also got the Smoked Brisket Prime Beef, which comes with a side (get the bulgur wheat!). The beef was very tender and melt-in-your-mouth, and was served in slices and ate a little like pot roast. No shade, though -- it was superb. The brisket comes with two sauces: a chimichurri and a red sauce that I couldn't identify. I saw baba ganouj on the menu, and I had to get it! I am a big baba ganouj fan. This one comes with a basket of warm pita. It was good, but maybe not my favorite thing I ate here. I'm glad I tried it, though. The service is great and fast. We ordered right away and our food came out at a decent time, and we wanted for nothing. read more

We had high hopes for this place because we enjoy kebab grill on 96th and love the sauté chicken, lamb and beef over a bed of rice. Their mint tea is impressions with fresh mint leaves. Loved the ambience and the service--everyone was incredibly friendly, and we were checked on several times, which made the experience feel very welcoming and attentive. For the food, we ordered the lamb chops and half chicken. The lamb chops were excellent--perfectly cooked and very tender. The chicken, however, was a bit dry and could benefit from more flavor or seasoning. I also would have appreciated a wider variety of sides and sauces, as the plate leaned heavily on plain lettuce. We shared a Borak appetizer (filo pockets filled with savory feta and aromatic za'atar). Finding this halal steakhouse was a surprise. The ambience was wonderful and upscale. They have a good number of parking spots in their garage, but you need to circle around the building to find it. They offer some fresh salads as complementary. We tried the recommended mint lemonade and strawberry mojito. Since the smoked lamb shoulder was too large for us, we took a ribeye steak and lamb chops. The entrees come with rice or fries. The food may feel a bit bland due to Indian palate, but they have a variety of sauces to complement it. We also tried their desserts, namely tiramisu and kunafa. We started with appetizers of falafel & borek. Both delicious & we loved the pickled beets as a garnish. My husband had brisket while I dined on smoked lamb. Both dishes were absolutely incredible. The lamb meat slid right off the bone. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. We intentionally saved room for desert by taking some of our dinner as leftovers. We have bulgar wheat and it had a rice like texture and tomato base that was phenomenal Chicken and smoked rice- the chicken was grilled to perfection and I had it with smoked rice that had a tomato base. My only complaint is the marketing. I live less than 10 mins from this place and had never heard of it. The uniqueness of marrying two unique styles of cuisine needs more pub/advertisement, especially in a location like downtown Fishers. My husband and I came here for lunch today and I can easily say this was the best meal I've had in...ever. We started with the karak chai which was perfectly warm and spiced for this cold day. I could drink gallons of this stuff. Our appetizer was the sambousek which comes with 4 flakey meat pies. They are crispy and flavorful. For our main dishes, my husband got the lamb neck and I got the mixed platter. The portions are huge and the flavor and tenderness of the meat was unbelievable. Finally, for dessert we had the knafe which is literally life changing. Behind the food, the atmosphere and friendly staff are the cherry on top. After placing a to-go order due to rushing back to work, we realized that the meat portion was only 1/2 of what the menu said. The owner was yelled at us over the phone that he "never intended" to give the full meat portion and he's losing money. He said we could leave work and drive the half hour back for the portion that was missing, but due to not being able to leave work, we asked for just a partial refund since we didn't receive what we paid for and he continued to yell that he's losing money and he's "absolutely" not refunding a cent. Excellent restaurant. Some of the best smoked meats you will ever have. Flavor is plentiful and very unique. All of the meats are fantastic, but I especially liked the lamb. Try the mixed grill plate, you cannot go wrong. The Greek salad was also great, as was the smoked rice. I also highly recommend the mint lemonade for a beverage. My wife ordered the sambousek for an appetizer and she raved how delicious it was. I tried it and she was right. This is the second time we've been and it is now one of our favorites. My wife and I love a good smoked brisket and love middle eastern food, so we were excited to try this restaurant. Let's start with the really bad. We were only the second occupied table but the wait was really long. My wife got her's first (after a long wait) but my brisket came 20 minutes later. If it truly is slow smoked brisket it should be ready to go. I'm not sure their definition of smoked meat but this was not smoked brisket. I'm guessing 3 hour oven roasted. Tough, no flavor shredded brisket over rice. Don't get it. My wife's falafel was really good and hummus that was good but served with cold, stale pita bread.
