Love this restaurant. Family owned, home made food was super delicious. It's a beautiful place too. Went on a Friday evening and was greeted and seated right away. The gentleman who helped us out was super friendly and helpful. When I mentioned some of the things I like, he suggested the gyros plate which comes with salad, rice, pita bread, and hummus. The hummus might be the best I've ever had. My SO had a beef shawarma sandwich with yellow rice. Delicious. Everything was delicious. I love the combination of flavors. The gyros meat was tender and amazing. For dessert, we had the best baklava ever. Seriously. The layers were perfect. It was sweetened perfectly. It was the first visit by my SO who was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the delicious taste and great service. When my children inexplicably said that they wanted to try shawarma, I ran, not walked, to Sahara Restaurant. (Actually, I drove. But you get the picture.) Requesting something other than pizza and burgers is a big deal! I ordered the beef shawarma and the chicken shawarma, just so we could try both. Both looked like a burrito, which is familiar to my kids, so they went with it. We liked the beef, but the chicken shawarma was mind-blowing, and we will definitely be ordering this again. You can get the shawarma by itself or as a meal, which means it comes with fries. I also got the gyro, which comes with sliced beef and lamb, yellow rice, hummus, salad, tzatziki and pita. Because we got our food to go, the pita came separate from everything else, and I had to assemble my gyro myself like a little taco. It was delicious, but so much food! Honestly, the gyro plate can feed two people easily. Because I can't pass up a baba ganoush, I ordered a small one. They have some excellent baba ganoush at Sahara! I think this might even be my baba ganoush go-to now. Ordering online is very easy, and my food was ready to be picked up even before it was supposed to be. The only thing is that Sahara is located on the Broad Ripple strip, so parking can be iffy. I didn't find any parking in front of the restaurant, so I had to circle the block a bit before I found a spot. read more

I cannot recommend Sahara enough, sometimes we go twice a week! The hummus plate is bomb, and I always get the chicken shawarma and have extra to take home. My partner and I shared the Sahara Mixed Grill, and everything on the plate was perfectly cooked -- the shish kabob was tender, the kafta had great flavor, and the chicken kabob and shish tawook were both juicy and seasoned just right. While walking in broad ripple I saw this place and thought it would be a great place to stop for a Gyros. I was disappointed . I ordered the Gyros and fries. The portion size was good. The fries were hot and crisp. The gyros was the disappointment. Although the tzatziki sauce was good the gyros meat was not. Stopped in here on a whim and had a delicious meal! Got the Sahara mixed grill that came with lamb, beef and chicken skewers over a bed of rice. The portion sizes are huge! I had two meals out of this. We didn't have to wait too long for our order and while it's a smaller place, the decor is very pretty. Today was my third time stopping in and I finally got pictures so it's time for a review. I've stopped in for my lunch break and every time I come in the service is quick, the food is delicious and it's always comfortable. Today I had the gyro combo which came out to $14 and some change. The young man who took my order was very kind and hospitable, which I appreciated so much. The gyro was well very filling, had the perfect amount of sauce , and the fries were well seasoned and clearly made to order. I've previously had the beef shawarma and the falafel, I enjoyed both of those as well. I think if you're not a vegetarian, the gyro is the best out of all 3. Worst Mediterranean food honestly. Got the mixed grill, tabbouleh, and shawarma sandwich and all were equally terrible honestly. The shawarma sandwich was wrapped in a tortilla and nothing like traditional shawarma sandwiches. The tabbouleh tasted nothing close to what it should and was so watery. It was a long week of work, and my fiancee and I had been wanting to get a falafel for a while. We are newcomers to Broad Ripple and have walked by Sahara often but hadn't tried it, yet. I wish we had tried it sooner. It was a cold Sunday night, and we decided to go in person and order food to go. The interior was warm and very inviting. It's a family-owned and operated place. They were so kind and brought out baklava for us while we waited for our food. I ordered a Turkish coffee as well, and wow it was incredible. Ultimately, we ordered spanakopita, grape leaves, and two falafel sandwiches. They made the falafel fresh, and our food had so much flavor. These businesses are the lifeblood of Broad Ripple. They refused to take money for the baklava and Turkish coffee. Citizens of Indy and those passing through our town, please stop by this place. Mohammed will treat you well, and your hunger will be quenched. Just one more shoutout for the Turkish coffee. It may come in a small cup, but it packs a punch. read more

Hard to find a favorite. I liked it all. The tabouli with the lemon, yum! To drink, their black tea with the sprinkle of rose water was such a treat. Not over powering at all. It was average I would say. They put so much tzatziki sauce on it (must be 1/2 cup) that it drowns out everything else. Not to mention leaves you with a sloppy mess for the last half of the sandwich. This is one of the best Turkish restaurants I have ever been to and I'm sad it is not near my home in Missouri! Everything, EVERYTHING was fresh and cooked perfectly. They brought us hot tea to begin, before we had ordered using a beautiful tea set. He then sprinkled each glass of tea with rose water. I had a Chicken Kabob and rice and other dishes at the table were: Gyros, Spanakopita, Hummus, Vegetarian Platter and Salad. My friend said the Gyro and tzatziki was the best he's ever had. I ordered another serving of Hummus for the long trip home in the car. The service was great, the family who owns the restaurant was very attentive and kind. The service was quick and we were eating in no time. Located on the main strip of Broad Ripple, it's one of the few restaurants that's been there for years without change. We were happy to try so many things in one platter and had some great pita on the side too. My favorite was the babaganoush and stuffed pastry - delicious! For my entree I got the chicken shawarma plate, which came with rice, hummus and salad. It was also delicious, especially on warm pita. The meat in the mixed grill were cooked well and the flavors were spot on! It was not lacking in taste. The hummus and baba ganoush were delicious. The service was great too.
