Love this restaurant. Family owned, home made food was super delicious. It's a beautiful place too. Went on a Friday evening and was greeted and seated right away. The gentleman who helped us out was super friendly and helpful. When I mentioned some of the things I like, he suggested the gyros plate which comes with salad, rice, pita bread, and hummus. The hummus might be the best I've ever had. My SO had a beef shawarma sandwich with yellow rice. Delicious. Everything was delicious. I love the combination of flavors. The gyros meat was tender and amazing. For dessert, we had the best baklava ever. Seriously. The layers were perfect. It was sweetened perfectly. It was the first visit by my SO who was pleasantly surprised and impressed by the delicious taste and great service. I wish I lived closer to this place but am glad the great restaurant is still great after all these years. read more

Our first time, family supper at Sahara... and were blown away with it all. The delicious wonderfully- crafted food was amazing. Service and ambiance were precious. We were well taken care of. read more

When my children inexplicably said that they wanted to try shawarma, I ran, not walked, to Sahara Restaurant. (Actually, I drove. But you get the picture.) Requesting something other than pizza and burgers is a big deal! I ordered the beef shawarma and the chicken shawarma, just so we could try both. Both looked like a burrito, which is familiar to my kids, so they went with it. We liked the beef, but the chicken shawarma was mind-blowing, and we will definitely be ordering this again. You can get the shawarma by itself or as a meal, which means it comes with fries. I also got the gyro, which comes with sliced beef and lamb, yellow rice, hummus, salad, tzatziki and pita. Because we got our food to go, the pita came separate from everything else, and I had to assemble my gyro myself like a little taco. It was delicious, but so much food! Honestly, the gyro plate can feed two people easily. Because I can't pass up a baba ganoush, I ordered a small one. They have some excellent baba ganoush at Sahara! I think this might even be my baba ganoush go-to now. Ordering online is very easy, and my food was ready to be picked up even before it was supposed to be. The only thing is that Sahara is located on the Broad Ripple strip, so parking can be iffy. I didn't find any parking in front of the restaurant, so I had to circle the block a bit before I found a spot. read more

Sahara Restaurant really impressed us. My partner and I shared the Sahara Mixed Grill, and everything on the plate was perfectly cooked -- the shish kabob was tender, the kafta had great flavor, and the chicken kabob and shish tawook were both juicy and seasoned just right. Our server, who was also the chef, took our order and let us know upfront that the dish would take about 20-25 minutes to prepare. I genuinely appreciated the honesty, and the wait was absolutely worth it. Great food, excellent service, and a relaxed, welcoming vibe. We'll definitely be back. read more

Wow. Amazing service, so clean, huge portions, warm atmosphere. Cute date night spot as well. I grabbed some food to go after getting my nails done. While waiting, I was given a large piece of warm baklava on the house. For my gyro plate, I had already eaten and still had so much food left read more

I cannot recommend Sahara enough, sometimes we go twice a week! The hummus plate is bomb, and I always get the chicken shawarma and have extra to take home. The owner and his son are soso nice and they always bring us hot tea. I def recommend the basbuseh for dessert too! I told the owner I damn near might buy a pan for our wedding lol read more

While walking in broad ripple I saw this place and thought it would be a great place to stop for a Gyros. I was disappointed . I ordered the Gyros and fries. The portion size was good. The fries were hot and crisp. The gyros was the disappointment. Although the tzatziki sauce was good the gyros meat was not. I don't know if it was the seasoning or the meat was old but whatever it was ruined the meal. read more

Stopped in here on a whim and had a delicious meal! Got the Sahara mixed grill that came with lamb, beef and chicken skewers over a bed of rice. The portion sizes are huge! I had two meals out of this. We didn't have to wait too long for our order and while it's a smaller place, the decor is very pretty. My food was great and I think of all the meats on the plate, the chicken was my favorite. I really enjoyed the seasoning on it. Would definitely stop in again when I'm in the area. read more

Stopped in for a gyro and was really impressed. The food was fresh, flavorful, and everything tasted great. What stood out the most was the service. Everyone was incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome. They also gave us complimentary tea and dessert, which was such a nice surprise and a thoughtful touch. Little things like that really make a difference. Great food, great people, and a great overall experience. I'll definitely be back. read more

Today was my third time stopping in and I finally got pictures so it's time for a review. I've stopped in for my lunch break and every time I come in the service is quick, the food is delicious and it's always comfortable. Today I had the gyro combo which came out to $14 and some change. The young man who took my order was very kind and hospitable, which I appreciated so much. The gyro was well very filling, had the perfect amount of sauce , and the fries were well seasoned and clearly made to order. I've previously had the beef shawarma and the falafel, I enjoyed both of those as well. I think if you're not a vegetarian, the gyro is the best out of all 3. Overall I highly recommend this place and I'll be back to check the platters out next. read more

Every time I come, it's done perfectly, and I honestly can't resist it, which is why I've become a regular. The staff is incredibly kind and welcoming and genuinely makes you feel like family. Incredible gyro!! There was plenty of food and I really enjoyed it. Kind people. I'll be back!

My husband and I came here for the first time since having our child and it once again did not disappoint. The hot tea comes with sugar and rose water to add if you want to. The rose water enhances the flavor of the black tea and warms the whole body. Which is great because it is incredibly cold today. The restaurant was quiet and serene offering a very peaceful dining experience. I had the Mansaf again as it is my favorite menu item. The lamb was incredibly tender and fell off the bone. Every bite felt like it was melting in my mouth. The rice and yogurt sauce added the perfect slightly sour and grainy combination with the savory meat. Once again it knocked it out of the park with the food, ambiance, and wonderful service from the owner. read more

Best middleastern food in Broadripple, Quality and serve are priority for this restaurant

We wanted Mediterranean food and were in the area so we decided to stop by. The space is comfortable and well decorated located right on the Broadripple strip. A great location but iffy for parking. We started with the vegetarian combo plate. Everything was on point for flavor and preparation. I went with the chicken plate and my friend went with the mansef. Both were wonderful and plentiful. The service was welcoming and friendly and the food was wonderful. This was well worth the trip and the search for parking. read more

Worst Mediterranean food honestly. Got the mixed grill, tabbouleh, and shawarma sandwich and all were equally terrible honestly. The shawarma sandwich was wrapped in a tortilla and nothing like traditional shawarma sandwiches. The tabbouleh tasted nothing close to what it should and was so watery. The mixed grill lacked seasoning and all the meat was dry and tuff. Such a disappointment read more

Good spot. Very quick food. This place seems to be mostly popular for takeout, not dining in. I ordered a falafel sandwich combo. It felt a little pre-made but it was delicious nevertheless! The fries were also tasty. They only had bottled water so I had to pay $0.50 for that. Not too bad of pricing and service was as expected! read more

Best falafel I've ever had! Wonderful and pleasant service, comfortable atmosphere, delicious fresh food. Couldn't recommend enough!

It was a long week of work, and my fiancee and I had been wanting to get a falafel for a while. We are newcomers to Broad Ripple and have walked by Sahara often but hadn't tried it, yet. I wish we had tried it sooner. It was a cold Sunday night, and we decided to go in person and order food to go. The interior was warm and very inviting. It's a family-owned and operated place. They were so kind and brought out baklava for us while we waited for our food. I ordered a Turkish coffee as well, and wow it was incredible. Ultimately, we ordered spanakopita, grape leaves, and two falafel sandwiches. They made the falafel fresh, and our food had so much flavor. These businesses are the lifeblood of Broad Ripple. They refused to take money for the baklava and Turkish coffee. Citizens of Indy and those passing through our town, please stop by this place. Mohammed will treat you well, and your hunger will be quenched. Just one more shoutout for the Turkish coffee. It may come in a small cup, but it packs a punch. read more

This place is a gem. We stopped in with our family (kids included) and ordered a bunch of different things to try. Every single thing we had was delicious. The service was fantastic. The server was friendly and helpful. Sometimes with high-energy kids, we feel like servers are annoyed, but not here! They were really welcoming! Highly recommend for a filling, delicious family dinner or casual date night. read more

Great variety of goods in the vegetarian platter: falafel, hummus, baba ganoush, spinach and cheese filled pastry, grape leaves, pita, and tabouli. Everything was fresh tasting and flavorful. Hard to find a favorite. I liked it all. The tabouli with the lemon, yum! To drink, their black tea with the sprinkle of rose water was such a treat. Not over powering at all. The flavor profile was a beautiful surprise. Would get that again for sure. The gyro wrap was a hit at the table too. The service was fantastic. Everyone was so friendly! read more

Great service welcoming, waiters very informative. Stopped by on a whim while in the BR area - was very pleasantly surprised! Vegetable combo platter, grilled meats platter, tea, and coffee were all fantastic. Service was friendly and prompt. Drove 45 minutes for dinner only to be turned away at 845 when we entered and sat down at a table. There was another family seated and eating at the time. Plenty of other dining options in the area, thankfully. read more

I was so pumped when I read all the reviews. Recently moved to the area and was thinking this could be my goto place for gyros. I ordered a gyro online and went and picked it up. It was average I would say. They put so much tzatziki sauce on it (must be 1/2 cup) that it drowns out everything else. Not to mention leaves you with a sloppy mess for the last half of the sandwich. Disappointed. Can't say I recommend. read more

Always very good! I especially enjoy the chicken shawarma and the beautiful atmosphere.

We finally stopped by Sahara for the first time and loved everything we tried. It was cozy in there, although I did notice that most people seemed to do carry-out. The service was quick and we were eating in no time. Located on the main strip of Broad Ripple, it's one of the few restaurants that's been there for years without change. We started with the vegetarian appetizer plate which had hummus, falafel, babaganoush, fried kabbah and stuffed pastry of spinach. We were happy to try so many things in one platter and had some great pita on the side too. My favorite was the babaganoush and stuffed pastry - delicious! For my entree I got the chicken shawarma plate, which came with rice, hummus and salad. It was also delicious, especially on warm pita. I had a lot of leftover chicken and pita as all of their plates are generously sized, so I took my leftovers to-go and enjoyed it later that evening. Thanks Sahara! read more
