    Yemini bread served with hummus
    Sarah B.

My forever dining partner and I made our way to the west side today for lunch as he was craving some yummy shawarma. This little restaurant is inside the Mecca Grocery Store which has loads of fantastic goodies (take some time to look around -- we found pomegranate molasses!) when I ordered the hummus with meat, I fully expected it to be a small plate and I was pleasantly mistaken! This plate of hummus was absolutely massive, and easily enough for 2-3 people. The meat was perfectly spiced and cooked. The hummus was very tahini forward, and while delicious a bit too much for my tastes. My forever dining partner said the shawarma was a bit dry, but really nicely flavored! The absolute show stopper was the Yemini style bread! It was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Absolute perfection!! Can't wait to go back!

The falafel wrap is amazing and the ingredients taste very fresh, I highly recommend ordering it. The Mendi Lamb is quite good, the rice is savory and comes with a generous portion of lamb. The meat is quite fatty and I felt that it could use more seasoning, but overall it was a good dish. The restaurant is located in a Middle Eastern grocery store, and it's a typical hole in the wall eatery with a fast food/diner vibe. I would come back again for takeout.

Y'all. Do not overlook this place in your food hunt. It's inside a grocery store and definitely an experience, but worth every bit of it. The waitress/cook was super helpful and made sure to let us know that the food we ordered (hummus with meat and something I don't remember the name of) was finger food but she would bring us some spoons since we were first timers we didn't use them at all and enjoyed our pita "utensils" greatly. Our friends got some lamb and rice and loved that. If we were local we would go all the time. Amazing and not to be missed.

To find the most authentic food one sometimes must travel to the unlikelist of places... * Last night we had a little family adventure trying to find something for dinner. We drove to a few different spots and eventually landed ourselves in a middle eastern market that also serves food. Just getting ourselves seated inside of this tiny little dining corner was quite the endeavour and then to order food was a whole other story. After all the trials and tribulations of ordering, our food came out with a quickness and we were eager to eat. To say that this meal was mediocre would be an utter lie as it was simply fantastic! The hummus was absolutely creamy and the Baba Ganoush was absolutely dreamy with it's smokey notes and a creamy like undertone. Don't even get me started on the flatbread... ALL bread should be as delicious and fluffy with the little crispy bits from direct heat exposure!!! And this was happening all the while with Anthony Bourdain narrating in my head just like an episode of "No Reservations". * I think the moral of this story is to get out there and have fun with life. You never know just where the wind will carry you.

I love coming here not only can I pick up some household favorites like the almond biscuits and delicious baklava, I can enjoy a tasty halal meal. I've been here probably a total of 5 times and every time but once has been incredible. I normally get the hummus which is finished with olive oil, sumac and parsley. Comes with fresh warm naan ...Amazing! I love the veggie saltah, it comes in a steaming hot clay pot and sizzles in its perfection. When I say it brings memories of childhood back, I mean it. My grandpa used to cook a dish similar using similar spices. My favorite for sure. We've have the fried fish and it's delicious as well. All I can say is try something new, you won't be disappointed. Also-Keep in mind this food takes time to prepare and to cook, so I recommend allowing yourself time. Good things come to those who wait.

Portion size was excellent for the Mendi Chicken & Rice. Flavor and dish itself were fantastic! Definitely recommend the hummus as well.

Light, Dark and naked wings. I will start with sides. The greens, better than I ever had including AL, MS, LA and TN. Slaw was classic LA. Good, I am vinger slaw guy. Now for the chicken. First and foremost the medium is no joke HOT. Anyone can make something hot. But the flavor of the hotness is world class. Whatever they do, (brine whatever) the flavor is deep in the meat, including the breast. Absolutely fantastic. My only advice is if you find a raw jalapeno to hot, go one level down in spice. Unless you can set an eat raw Serranos, don't pay .$50 to go spicier. Who would have thought, amazing hot chicken, Indy.

The…read moreother four people I was with got "medium" and "medium plus" (they are hot sauce / heat lovers) and they all hated the food. It honestly hurt to see all that chicken go directly into the garbage, but they claim it was inedible. Since it's not a saucy type of flavoring, but a dry rub, they said that the heat was painful, and not flavorful. Back to the sandwich I enjoyed... I felt that there was a sweetness to the flavor that I liked, which I could see not everyone enjoying. There is also a hot dusting over the french fries which exacerbates any discomfort people are having from the heat. There really wasn't anything to cool it down. The macaroni and cheese was piping hot, although not spicy.

Both were delicious and well portioned. The guvec (veggie casserole) had eggplant, mushrooms, peppers, carrots, and other veggies plus rice and a small salad. The entire place is covered with the evil eye charms, so you should definitely be safe here. I highly recommend reservations because they sure get busy. And while the ambiance is great, you really cannot linger for long, as there are usually folks waiting to get a seat. The menu is quite extensive and offers plenty for carnivores and vegetarians alike. I opted for the Iskender, which is crisp pita bread pieces topped with meat slices, all of it doused in a savory tomato based sauce and topped with dollops of yoghurt. The bread has little crisp edges and together with the meat and toppings gives you like a mini sandwich in your mouth. Simply delicious. The Turkish spices bring a wonderful flavor to the dish. I highly recommend it. Hat to admit it, but I have not been too impressed with the tzaziki on previous visits. It was somewhat runny and bland, but I haven't had in a while. Street parking is limited, but in the summer there is a gravel lot on the side of the neighboring building. However when it snows, parking can be a bit of a problem, so be aware.

The staff was super friendly as well and service was great. I love that they have lots of small plates so you can try a little of everything. We ordered: Batagor (chicken and shrimp dumplings) Bala - Bala (vegetable fritters) Satay appetizer (chicken with peanut sauce) Crab Rangoon Martabak Telor (beef omelette) Bakmi Jawa (noodle stir fry with shrimp) Beef Rendang (simmered beef and sides) Iced Palm sugar latte Lychee Iced Tea And a side of noodles for our 2 year The sauces that came with these dishes were also great. You can even shop from their small store to bring Indonesian groceries home. We went on a Saturday night and it was pretty full. We found a spot in the small parking lot, but they have signs that there is additional parking by the church if you go and need to find a spot. Since we clearly over ordered we had a lot to take home and it was great as leftovers the next day still. Can't wait to go back!

I don't have a benchmark, since this is my single Indonesian food experience. I ordered the bala-bala and beef rendang. The bala-bala were packed with recognizable veggies and had a light crispy texture. Not greasy or oily at all. My main course came with rice, a jackfruit curry and kale. A green chili sauce, more like a relish is served on the side. It is very spicy. The beef was well spiced, fork tender and just dreamy. I was also surprised by the jackfruit curry-something I've never had but liked with the spiciness of the beef-I did use a lot of the green chili sauce. The place is small and very casual and serves coffee drinks but doesn't have a liquor license. You can carry in from the pub next door, though. The parking lot is very small but I think you can park in the adjoining lot by the pub. I went at an odd time and was the only customer other than a couple of drunk women trying to get coffee. There's also a small shop where you can buy Indonesian spices, mixes and coffee. I regret not buying the rendang mix! I'm definitely going back to try some of the other dishes, ideally with friends to share appetizers-I want that lumpia-and I'll be sure to grab a package of rendang spice on my way out.
