Tried Petra Cafe on a long holiday weekend and while the place was busy, service was pretty quick and it didn't take long for our orders to come out. There's a little indoor seating - not much - so if you have several people in your party, you might not be able to sit inside. We thought the food was fairly bland unfortunately. The tzatziki didn't have much taste, the chicken shawarma needed seasoning and the rice was fairly average. I used all the garlic seasoning and tzatziki to try to bring flavor to everything and that helped but they need to work on adding something to make the food have some actual taste. Salad was probably the best thing we got and the dressing on it was delicious. Both of us left pretty disappointed and decided it's not worth going back to try again. read more

Honestly this is worth your time. It is a nice hole in the type restaurant with reasonable priced and delicious food.I got the mixed kebab platter and my least favorite of the three was lamb although it was still great. You get a small salad with your order and veggies are also in the entree too. The serving portion is generous and we both had left overs. The space is small so it's not ideal for large groups over 4 and there is paid street side parking outside. The server was very hospitable and eve offered to take our pictures. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our food but this was mentioned since kebabs are made to order. read more

Came here while in town working NCAA Finals. We looked up good food near me and this spot popped up. When i say they were absolutely right! The food was flavorful. 3 of us got the chicken shawarma combos. It came over rice and was with onions and tomatoes. 1 of us got a lamb gyro. The portions were so large so we had to go boxes. The staff were all nice and gave suggestions before we ordered. I would definitely recommend and I would go back again when in town. read more

The first time I came to Petra, I didn't know what to expect. My friend ordered the lentil soup and me not knowing what to order I followed suit. What occurred after was the best lentil soup I ever had. Whenever I'm in town I stop by Petra and get at least two bowls of lentil soup. It's very good, very flavorful. I wanted to introduce my friend to Petra and while we loved the ambience, service and atmosphere I knocked off a star for the meat on my meat platter to be extra dry. I had to generously slather garlic sauce to ensure the dip cut the dryness, which it eventually did. The place gets so busy right at dinner and the crowd was extremely chic and fun. You get a lot of food here for a good price. I went in for the first time the other day at dinner time on a Saturday and was able to order immediately and my food was ready within 5 minutes. It is pretty small inside but there are a few tables if you want to eat there. I got mine to go. I had the spicy gyro combo which comes with fries and a drink. The fries were excellent and the spicy gyro was incredible too. The meat was flavored perfectly with just the right amount of spice, plus a perfectly soft pita and plenty of cool tzatziki to top it off! Will definitely be back to try the chicken shawarma next. I was expecting grilled veggies but it was chickpeas, cabbage, pickles, pepperoncinis and olives with cheese all in a warm pita. Petra was there to the rescue. I used to live in Greek Astoria in New York. So Mediterranean is one of my favorite food genres. Overall, I was pleased. I got a chicken shawarma plate. The meat was cooked to perfection, the rice was amazing, and the uncooked veggies that came on the top really tied it all together well. As someone who prides themselves on trying new places or at least new menu items, Petra's spicy gyro is truly my weakness. The gentleman behind the counter recommended it the first time I went, and it's so good that I can't bring myself to switch things up. It has a kick, but isn't so hot that I have to take a sip of water between bites. Instead I can just munch on and on and on.... Ingredients are fresh and flavorful. Fries are crisp and well-seasoned. Portions are big enough that I usually have leftovers the next day (depending on how intense the late night munchies are!). Staff are friendly. There's a small seating area, but I prefer to take out. I am always on the lookout for a good gyro, so I was excited to meet some friends for lunch at Petra to try theirs! This place was smaller than I was expecting, but understandably so with the prime location on Mass Ave. It has a mom-and-pop feel, with one person working the register and one chef preparing the food. You place your order at the counter then grab a seat and wait for the food to be ready. They have a few tables in the front of the restaurant for patrons who want to dine in. I ordered a regular gyro with fries and my friend got an appetizer of baba ganoush for the table. Side note, they do offer a "spicy" gyro, which sounded good but I wanted to try the original for my first visit. A combo of the gyro, fries and drink was around $10. I was a little disappointed in the drink selection, as they only had bottled water and cans of either Coca Cola, Sprite, Orange Crush, or Mountain Dew. The baba ganoush came out first, and since I had never tried this before, I was unsure what to expect. It looks like hummus but turns out it is made from smashed eggplant instead of chickpeas. Lets just say...I will stick with hummus. The pita bread that came along with it was pretty good though. The gyros and fries were a generous portion and they prepared the fries cook to order so they were nice and crispy. The gyro itself was pretty good, but I've had better lamb meat. It also had a noticeable amount of cucumber in the gyro, which I wasn't expecting. In my opinion, the tzatziki sauce made the gyro worth trying again. And for someone who likes a decent amount of tzatziki on their gyro, it had just the right amount for me. Overall, this place was just A-ok in my books, hence the 3 star rating. Want good food on the go?! This is my new FAVORITE spot downtown to snag a good, quick meal. Owned by brothers, they bring their culture to Mass Ave with fun music in the restaurant and an incredible menu. There are also a few small tables you can eat at if you want to stick around. I ordered a chicken shawarma sandwich and it was seriously incredible. The chicken was amazingly seasoned, and came wrapped in super soft, hot pita. There was a garlic, almost-ranch-like sauce, and onions and lettuce all between the pita. For only about $7, it was a big portion and filled me right up. It takes about ten minutes from order time to receiving your meal, so don't expect it to be super instant, however it's quick for the quality of food you're receiving. WTF are you even making here? By far, the worst excuse for a gyro I have ever experienced. Wasted $28 in total. Ordered online via yelp/grub hub. Simple- gyro combo no tomato w/taziki sauce, lamb sandwich, side of falafel. Seems pretty easy to me. BASIC. Well, not for this place. Pick up time of 7:24-7:44 notification. Okay. Walk by at 7:20 and they look busy so I find a bench nearby. Head in to inquire at 7:30. Ignored briefly as the 2 guys behind the counter seem to be working pretty hard. Finally asked to order or pick up. I tell my name and show the order on phone. I hear, "it'll be a minute". Ok whatever. The place has 3 other people waiting for carryout orders. The guys keep preparing and boxing food, getting orders together. Setting a few on the counter waiting.... People in and out picking up food. The guy gets everyone their food and cleared out and begins to walk out the back. Then turns and realizes I'm still waiting for my food, he asks, "did I have a pickup order?" Huh? WTF, I just showed you the order 10 minutes ago, you know, now past the pick up time. He then walks over and looks at the name on the bag that has been sitting there for 5 minutes and says - "oh, my bad". Well if that was the only my bad, I would've been fine. Whatever. But 4 minute walk back home, crack open the lids to a mess of trash. A red substance that looks like ketchup is sprayed all over the both sandwiches. The tomato's that I didn't want featured prominently throughout both along with other unwanted vegetables. Things that ARE NOT mentioned in food descriptions or pictures. Complete trash. And the falafel, well that taste like dirt. Not good at all. There's very few places with good falafel and this place sure as hell ain't one of them. So, buyer beware. This place is trash.
