Food we ordered was very good, mild spice, creamy sauce, generous portion of chicken. Garlic naan is made fresh, buttery and lots of chopped garlic spread out. The guy cashier was very friendly and attentive, calls the order by name and brings it to the table. To order dine in or out, need to line up the front counter and have order taken by the cashier/server. Self service on the water and cutlery. They have a good selection of menu items, with the usual biryani's, buttered chicken and samosas. The dining area looks wide, casual dining, no music. But looks cool they have a ping pong table and a game table. The wall is painted with geometric design and tones of green. Pay cash or credit card. Restroom separated by gender. Opened during Christmas Day!

Butter Chicken was really bad, my wife couldnt eat it. Tikka Masala was a little better but both items were super greasy and had an odd taste. Extremely salty

Very nice staff and excellent tasting food. The interior decor is also cute. The mango lassi is so sweet. Their dessert selection was one of my favorites among Indianapolis Indian restaurants. The prices are higher, but the portions are HUGE. You can get regular or family size for most dishes, but even the regular is about 3 meals for me (as a light eater). I found that the menu posted on Yelp is very accurate. They have a selection of Indian and Pakistani foods. You may choose spice levels. Many dishes are vegetarian or vegan. Parking is plentiful in this strip mall which is right off of I-65.

Chapati was my introduction into Indian cuisine and let's just say my experience was unforgettable. Everything I dipped my fork into was packed with flavor. They have a huge variety and tons of options for my vegetarian and vegan friends. The staff helped answer all the questions I had about the menu! As a foodie, it's always a win when you try a new food and you instantly obsess over it. That's 100% me with their chicken tikka masala!

I'm so glad we decided look on Yelp for Indian restaurants on our drive through Indy! I've done this drive over a dozen times, but it's the first time I've discovered Chapati. It's super unassuming but it's worth a stop-in!! They had two menus - one for Chapati and one for their fusion fried chicken concept! We opted for for the Pakistani & Indian dishes: *Pani Puri - (Vegan - $8.95 Crispy mini puries with spiced water, sweet chutney, sweet yogurt, tomatoes, onions, and chickpeas) - if you haven't had this Indian Street dish, it's worth a try and so fun to eat! My husband said it reminded him of pico de gallo & instead of tortilla chips, you get fun puffed up puries! 1) You take one of the puffed up puri pieces & knock it with the back of your spoon to make a little opening 2) You fill the opening with the chickpea mixture that also has tomatoes & onions (see the pico de gallo reference a bit?!) 3) Then you squirt a bit of the spiced water for a PERFECT bite! *Beef Nihari ($16 - Our rich, spiced, and beefy broth soup served with chunks of tenderized beef all slow cooked after deep marination.) - This dish was so comforting and stewy. The flavors were clearly developed over a long time. It was a bit thick so my only wish was that there was more beef brothy goodness to dip and eat with the chapati/basmati rice! *Palak Paneer - Vegetarian - $13 Spiced spinach cooked in a creamy sauce with fresh paneer) - Paneer really reminds me of cheese curds - in a good way. When it's super fresh, there's a nice squeakiness to it! No complaints - super tasty! *Butter Chicken ($15 - Boneless chicken marinated in our tomato spread then slow cooked with spices and our cream sauce.) - The chicken was definitely chicken thighs as it was flavorful and practically melted in your mouth from all slow cookin'! Yum. *Chapati ($1.75 Whole wheat flat bread) - per my tip below, no entrees COME with rice or bread, so you must order separately! I figured this place is called chapati, so I should try ordering their chapati. It's like a flat bread that is PERFECT for soaking up all the deliciousness from the nihari, palak and butter chicken! The above was way too much for 2 people and we had leftovers for a couple more meals after! TIPS: *all the grilled items take ~30 minutes, so order ahead or plan accordingly! *nothing comes with rice or breads so you need to order a la carte on the side!

This place is located in a very unassuming area ; you drive fast enough and you are liable to miss it. I've been here about a couple of times now n the past and the food was solid then but because of where it is at - we did not really come back until over the weekend. The eggplant masala and garlic naan is even better than we remember. It was so good we ended up getting some rice too. It's a big place and the way it's set up - you almost wonder if they could maybe change the layout so it looks more like traditional restaurant? But please don't let that discourage you from trying their food. When we were N there - they had a ton of take out orders! I mean that's what happens when your food is delicious, right? They also have a spot at the garage in downtown Indy ... for those folks in that area, check them out! Be adventurous with your choice of food and you will not be sorry

I heard a LOT of reviews of Chapati and couldn't wait to try it. Step in and the ambience takes you back to Indian roots - the seats set up with Carrom board which is a very popular game in India. Shelves decorated with popular spices and a whole lot of diversity defining decor. I much appreciate the variety. Food tasted very authentic, fresh and spice level was very decent. The Chicken boti and side chutney (dip) was a stellar combo. The garlic kulcha (tortilla) wasn't too garlicky and absolutely soft and fresh. Loved the Asian style of serving dishes which is very common in India and Pakistan. The retro Indian music added to the touch! Not too many people and good spacious seating. 5* for the food and ambience!

I'm very disappointed. The order was received by the restaurant and not prepared as advertised through their online ordering service. We picked it up and took it home. The chicken has bones despite saying "boneless" on their menu. I also ordered a "double portion" which I don't believe was a good value. If this is their double portion, it don't waste your money. $30 for this (pictured) plus naan. I asked the owner to please correct the order and he said he didn't need to because it is correct. I also would have accepted a refund and returned the food. Then he hung up on me. This is the menu we ordered from online.

Great food and lovely service. Tommy helped us make our selections and guided us in choosing the right spice level. We had chicken biryani extra spicy and chicken tikka masala spicy. We enjoyed both. We will be back to try the goat biryani extra extra spicy!!

garlic naan, chaat, beef nihari, butter chicken and of course, chapati! Oh an a samosa. Everything was delicious!
    Sara M.

Everything was delicious! They were out of goat meat so we couldn't try any of the goat dishes. My husband and I shared the food in the picture. Chaat was a mouth watering mix of flavors and textures, get it! We were so hungry and we ate everything you see in the picture and we could've had more lol. If we're ever back in Indianapolis, we are coming back here for sure.

I'm at the point where the only time I'll order Indian food is when it comes from Chapati's kitchen. I find that when I place an order at my neighborhood Indian spots, I end up disappointed and wish I had just called Chapati instead. They *truly* serve the best Indian food in Indy. While narrowing a favorite vegetarian or vegan dish is impossible, I do want to lift up that one's order should always include a samosa (or two) and a mango lassi. I love starting and finishing my meal with those top-notch items, and--if you haven't added them to your order--you best not miss out on such deliciousness.

It was cold and raining. He was so awesome. I never caught his name, but he remembered mine. They made my food fresh and it was amazing. I had the yellow lentils and lamb (spicy). Perfect. They also had some seasoning boxes to make food at home. If weren't visiting from the other side of the country, I would have bought some to make.

    Ask the Community - Chapati

Is there curry thick with coconut milk or watery?

We do not have any coconut milk curries.

Does this restaurant have any gluten free options for celiac?

I think if you steer clear of the naan and Chapati (flat bread) and stick to the dishes, you are golden. You can always call and ask - they're amazing people!

For other first-time…read morevisitors, I recommend letting the coffee sit for about 30 seconds before taking a sip so the fine grounds can settle to the bottom. Also, don't stir it after it's served, as that will bring the grounds back up into the coffee. Be sure to leave the last sip or two in the cup, since that's where the grounds collect. The coffee itself was excellent, but I would recommend that servers explain these details to first-time customers or at least ask whether they've had Turkish coffee before. A little guidance would make the experience even better for newcomers. We also ordered the hummus as an appetizer, and it was fantastic. The naan was served warm, and the hummus tasted incredibly fresh and flavorful. It was the perfect way to start the meal. We also ordered The Bosphorus Special, a mixed grill platter featuring doner, kofte, chicken kebab, beef kebab, Adana kebab, and chicken Adana kebab, served with vegetables and white rice. Everything was absolutely delicious. The meats were cooked perfectly, tender, and packed with flavor. I'm so glad my significant other and I decided to share this entrée because the portion was very generous, and we still had plenty of leftovers to take home. While the service could have been a bit more attentive, it did not negatively impact our overall experience. After our food was served, our waitress did not check back to see how everything was or whether we needed anything additional. We also ended up with quite a few leftovers and requested to-go containers. Initially, only one small container was brought to the table, which required two additional follow-ups before we received enough containers for the remaining food. One suggestion I would offer is that, for tables ordering larger meals, it may be helpful for servers to proactively offer to box up leftovers as dishes are cleared. For just two people, our table became overcrowded rather quickly, especially with the generous portions. Since our waitress did not return after the food was served, it made managing the table and leftovers a little challenging. That said, we had a wonderful first experience overall. The food was outstanding, the portions were generous, and we look forward to coming back again in the future.

Sadly, the only photo I snapped during our visit was of the menu because I didn't want to be on my phone + it was communal seating, so we were busy make friends and eating delicious food. We loved one of the bottles of wine that was paired with one of our courses, so we put in an order for one. I got called that it was already ready for pickup a few days later, hence the second visit so soon (turned my wine pickup errand into a lunch stop with my work besties). The second Saturday dinner was an absolute blast. From 6:30-7 they had 3 of the most incredible appetizers and glasses of champagne during a little social (half) hour. Then we all transitioned to the main dining area to start the rest of the paired courses from 7-10. They have limited two top tables along the hallway going into the main dining area, so everyone else was paired with another couple or groups of people, depending on if you sat at a table along the back wall or one of the big dining tables. We sat with another couple along the back wall and it was really fun getting to know them over the several hours everyone was having dinner and wine together. My husband and I are usually very introverted, but a few glasses of wine definitely makes me feel more brave lol. Each course was equally delicious, but the ricotta-stuffed beet tortellini was my personal favorite. The staff told us a little bit about each course after everyone had been served and they let us know the chef handmade all of the pasta and intentionally had a heart-shaped indentation on them when they were folded together for Valentine's Day. Each dish was so creative and paired perfectly with each wine that the sommelier poured for us. Overall, such a fun experience and an interesting way to spend Valentine's Day. When it was time to go back in and pick up our bottle of wine I asked a couple of work friends if they wanted to go with me to have lunch there. We also sat at a table on the back wall so my pregnant friend could be more comfortable (booth type seating on the back wall and then chairs on the other side). My other friend and I each got a Prosecco split, which was delicious. I also got a cappuccino because I can't pass up a coffee from anywhere, it would seem. I got us the marinated olives to all try and they were really good, with a fruity kick from the citrus peels added in. All three of us got the tuna melt and salad and it was really good and warming for the chilly day. All three of us felt that the tuna was masked by the cheese and peppers/onions. It is definitely a good sandwich for people who don't like overpowering fish flavor, but we all like tuna and wished we could have tasted it a little more. We're always looking for good Greek food in Indianapolis and noticed this spot while eating…read moresomewhere nearby, so we decided to make a trip back downtown for it at a later time. Located in a cute blue house, this is conveniently located near Lucas Oil Stadium and there was a huge concert going on the night we were there, but we were still allowed to park in their parking area. Inside has nice lighting and is pretty plain but has a homey feel. The menu contains many items we're familiar with having visited Greece twice. So I'm going to be a little critical here with my review of the food. I ordered the Greek Spaghetti, which I have had in Greece. Unfortunately this was not at all what I was expecting or anything like Greek spaghetti. What I was served was basically Prego spaghetti sauce with pieces of gyro in it. Traditional Greek spaghetti (or Makaronia me Kima) is a wonderful sauce that's seasoned with all kinds of memorable spices. It's definitely not pieces of gyro meat thrown in a sauce. So while this was fine, it was not what I truly wanted or thought I was getting so I was pretty disappointed. My husband got the chicken souvlaki and that was better but still not quite like what I remember. The meat was almost smoked and lacked some of the Greek spices that gives it a distinct taste. And the tzatziki...well, let's just say it tastes like whipped feta and was lacking in flavor too. I did enjoy the pita bread. Our service was underwhelming as well. It took a while for anyone to notice we were there and needed to be seated and the server basically did the bare minimum, never even asking if we wanted our water refilled. Overall, it was fine. If I had never been to Greece, I may have a different opinion but this isn't someplace I really want to go back to.
