Biryani House is a small Indian restaurant located on Indy's west side in the international district. I stopped in to grab some lunch and ended up ordering the butter chicken (spicy). Be advised that naan does not come with the meal and must be ordered separately. I chose the garlic naan. The butter chicken portion was smaller than what I'm used to receiving at other restaurants. The sauce texture was good, but it was more in the sweet side and didn't have enough heat for me. The portion of rice was great and I had enough for leftover. The garlic naan was decent, but could have had more garlic flavor and could've been fluffier. The service was pretty quick and there's parking out front. My family went this evening because the internets told us there was a dinner buffet (there was not), but as it was the second Indian restaurant we'd popped into in hopes of a buffet, we decided to stay and order a couple of items to console ourselves. We ordered: -garlic naan (8/10) -sesame Naan (10/10) -spicy prawns (9/10 and pretty spicy) -vegetable samosas (10/10) -chicken samosas (8/10) -vegetable biryani (9/10 and mildly spicy) -butter chicken (9/10 and not spicy) -gulab jamun (10/10) The server was kind, the food was freshly made (unless it was a marinated item), it came out hot (in a weird order, but no complaints), and we were the only people dining in. In the past month we've ordered from Biryani House three times. Each time is simply fantastic and delicious. We've ordered the chicken biryani (phenomenal), the saag paneer (delicious), and the goat curry (so good). The prices also can't be beat. We live about 20 minutes away and it's still perfect when we arrive back home to eat. They're following safety precautions during covid which is great. We can't wait to try more dishes! read more

We ordered a tray of Chicken Biryani to go (fed 6 adults) and paneer makhani w/white rice. The chicken biryani was perfect! Spicy, delicious, and the chicken absorbed most of the amazing goodness! The portion of the paneer makhani was small, but my son said he enjoyed it! We will definitely be back! read more

I've never made a secret of my love for the International Marketplace, and its wide array of wonderful restaurants, bakeries, and shops. Each of these businesses advances Indianapolis as a world-class city. Biryani House, a newer choice in Indianapolis' burgeoning number of Indian restaurants, is one of those places. Biryani House, located at the intersection of 38th Street and Georgetown Road, is in the heart of the International Marketplace. In fact, its home was formerly occupied by Mughal Cuisine, one of the first Pakistani restaurants in the city. I'd describe Biryani House as a "hole-in-the-wall," which usually means the magic is in the food. Perfect. While the ambiance won't leave an impression, Chef Suhel will wow you with his renditions of classic Indian cuisine. Featuring a full menu, as well as daily lunch and dinner buffets, no one will ever leave Biryani House hungry. Having a huge appetite, I just can't seem to stop visiting the dinner buffet. My typical issue with Indian buffet dining is that I come out feeling like I've eaten a bowling ball. However, Chef Suhel neither drenches his food in oil nor oversalts it. The choices are plentiful, even for our friends who suffer from vegetarianism. The sumptuous offerings at Biryani House are plentiful, and I couldn't possibly review all of them. To start, I would select the chana chaat and the various homemade chutneys. The onion pakora is wonderful if you are in the mood for something deep-fried. Once your first plate is out-of-the-way, move towards the saag paneer and the chili chicken. Be sure to take a healthy portion of the latter: it really is fantastic (although not as spicy as I would like)! Given the name of the restaurant, you should not skip the chicken biryani. Made with delicious, bone-in chicken, it is packed with flavor! My absolute favorite Indian dish is tandoori chicken, and at Biryani House, it is terrific. On other buffets, one might find tandoori chicken that has sat around for a while. No one wants that. However, on this buffet, it seems like it is always hot, fresh, and so tender that the meat is falling from the bone. For dessert, look no further than the kheer (rice pudding). One of the greatest aspects of Biryani House is the wonderful staff. Despite the young age of the servers, I have found them knowledgeable about the cuisine. More than that, they are very helpful, respectful, and genuinely interested in their customers. On my last visit, my 18-year-old server chatted with me about his recent trip to the Holy Land. Ordered a chicken dish with 6 pieces of garlic naan, the chicken came out in a pool of oil and the lady charged us for 6 orders of naan. She wouldn't refund the extra orders even though it was her fault. 1/10 wouldn't recommend to anyone. read more

I came here with my fiance he absolutely loved his food, and said they have a really good dinner buffet, too. I do believe him since while I was there two other customers came in asking about the buffet as well! The food was honestly pretty good, we had an order of vegetable samosa for appetizers and we both agreed that they were a little hard, not sure if that's how they are supposed to be, though, cause when I went home and heated up later that night it was much more soft and chewy than it was when served at the restaurant! I also ordered butter chicken it was delicious. I had to add some salt to the sauce, but that's my personal preference! The only unfortunate part of my experience was only the fact that the rice which was supposed to come with the butter chicken was served 5 minutes after the butter chicken. So I had to wait a little before I was able to properly eat my food. Other than that, I totally support this business! read more

My mom was in town so we took her to Biryani House for lunch today. The location is convenient, being in the same shopping center as the halal international market. The service is super friendly! We have been here like 4 times now since they opened. We love that they have a lunch and dinner buffet everyday! The chef even sent out some fresh and really yummy vegetable Manchurian to our table! In the buffet they had vegetable and chicken biryanis. They also had tandoori chicken, chili chicken, beef haleem and goat curry among other things. The best Indian food I've had in a very long time, close to homemade!! Nothing has come this close to my mom's food. I ate here all week this week and I couldn't be happier. Great tasting buffet, clean food. Owner is super nice and staff is helpful and friendly. Very well priced buffet and a la carte menu. Their byriani selection is solid, and very tasty. The menu items beyond their signature dish are also delisious. Eveything is made with fresh authentic ingredients, giving the food an edge over most indian restaurants that seem to take short cuts of sorts. Prices and portions very reasonable. The food is of average quality , nothing spectacular. However, both Yelp and Apple maps have the closing hours at 9 30 pm - which is wrong. They close at 9 pm. As I was entering the restaurant at 830 pm the waiter immediately approached me saying that restaurant is closing. Surprised I showed him Apple Map and he said we tried to fix this but Apple hasn't done anything. Then I showed him Yelp and he didn't say anything. Then he said we are not going to refill any dishes so just eat what's available. So obviously I left. This is my 7th visit to this place and and except once , all bad experience with the people working there. read more

So good!! Was randomly craving biryani and saw this place was open. Called an hour before closing and they were so nice about the order. Biryani was delicious, some places overdo the spices but this was a good mix. Everybody had at least 3 plates of it at my house. Also the 1 serving of Biryani is stated to feed two people, but 1 serving fed 4 people + seconds in my case. We order 3 servings so we'll be eating it for a while... which is fine :) read more

Biryani house catered for a recent community event for a local mosque. There were roughly 300 people in attendance. At first, I thought the food was fine - mediocre at best. I ate a whole meal as well as multiple people in my family. The following morning I regretted that decision immensely. I experienced severe stomach discomfort followed by intense diarrhea. In fact, I could not get out of bed for an entire day. A few hours later I came to know I am not alone in this. Several of my friends who were also in attendance suffered the same misfortunes. Biryani house should not be used as a catering service for any party. They do not have the resources to adequately cater for a large event. I highly discourage using their catering services. read more
