I wanted to share my recent experience at KALAVERAS restaurant. I placed an order over the phone for 4 burritos, lomo saltado, and tacos governador. However, when I arrived to pick up my order, there was a mix-up. The host repeated my order for me, and that's when I realized it was incorrect. I informed the general manager about the mistake, but instead of addressing the situation professionally, he started speaking Spanish to the host, unaware that I also understood the language. I expressed my concern about the wrong order, but the manager abruptly walked away in the middle of our conversation. After a while, he returned and publicly reprimanded the host in front of me, insisting that she must repeat phone orders three times in the future. I found his approach to be quite unnecessary and unprofessional. Regarding the food, I feel that it was overpriced for what was served. The presentation was lacking, and the flavors were quite bland. I'm not expecting any discounts or compensation, but I wanted to express my disappointment with the manager's behavior. I hope this feedback helps in improving their services. no utensils were given as weLl read more

This place is very loud, but has a cool ambiance. The hostess acts like she'd rather be anywhere else and is "too good" for her job. I noticed it but didn't say anything then the table next to us was seated by the same girl and the one asked the other "did I do something wrong" in reference to how the hostess treated them. The food was expensive for what you get and just ok. Our server on the other hand was friendly and attentive so they had that going for them. read more

We will NEVER return! Brunch was OVERPRICED and NO live mariachi from 9-2- FALSE ADVERTISEMENT! Food was mehhhh, service mehhhhh, manager and hostess were rude! Ambience loud as expected!!! Pretty much my husband was forced to get the brunch only because I had already served myself! Apparently if 1 person from your party gets brunch the whole table MUST get it! I've NEVER heard of this! Waitress, hostess and inept manager never offered us included bottomless mimosas, soft drinks, aguas frescas or coffee as we ordered a bottled coke and water! Kalavera's Simi is probably money hungry and afraid that you're going to share a small piece of dry hard churro, or a dry enchilada or even a piece of dry chile relleno or a piece of runny and flavorless watermelon! They never explained that RIDICULOUS rule that not even the waitress knew about! Talk about highway robbery! Anywho do yourself a favor and don't bother going to Kalaveras, especially for "Sunday Brunch!" $90 later here is my review for Kalavera's Simi Valley! DATE OF EXPERIENCE:7/13/2025 read more

Visiting from out of town, we came on a Sunday, they were only offering a buffet for $39, not offering anything else and when I asked the waitresses, if she could recommend any Mexican restaurants in town, she stated it's the only Mexican restaurant in Simi Valley. You could improve by offering single plates, and knowing it is not the only Mexican restaurant in Simi Valley. read more

This restaurant is a gem for Simi ! Let's give them some good business - great deals each day of the week , and good service

Scammers. I would not recommend this place if you are paying with card, bc they will double charge you for tip. But why are they scamming? I had bought some drinks at the bar... and put my credit card down for this round. The total was about $53. Come 4 days later when transactions have posted, I was charged double $106 saying I had left a complete $53 tip. When I had only down a $10. This is greedy building a bad reputation for the restaurant. read more

My friend had carne asada tacos, also good. Mexican rice here is the best in town. Eduardo was our waiter and very nice. Service is top notch here! Had to have two of the slushy margaritas again, as they are so good! Love this place, so glad I discovered it last weekend. read more

Their policy for separate tabs is ridiculous. They say we can't divide the tabs, but I don't understand how they can't do that by just speaking to their customers individually. They double charged me for items that were already charged to another individual at our table , and then kept that on the receipt they gave us we ended up paying almost $300 for items that were already paid by different individuals I am not OK with double charging and making a hassle for a separate checks . I understand it might be easier for them to put everything on one tab, but that should not be imposed on the customers. On top of that they automatically charge for tip. THEY ARE DISHONEST and they used a situation that had happened to double charge. PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR RECEIPTS, PEOPLE AND DOUBLE CHECK EVERYTHING !!!!!!!! read more

Went here on Wednesday for a Business Lunch. I had their Carne Asada plate. My host had a Carnitas plate. I'd say it was ok, and a bit overpriced for a lunch! The waitress was not very attentive and forgot to bring out the rice and beans. We got it about 15 minutes after the other stuff was served. The guacamole was about a whopping half an ounce, if that. Asked for a little more, but was forced to buy a side for $12. Actually the taste of their salsa and guacamole were both pretty bland. Even at lunch the place was noisy. Not good for a meeting. I doubt I will be rushing back! That is... Unless my banker is treating, again! read more

I'm hurt and I hate myself and I feel like a fool! Here I have this AMAZING happy hour experience at Kalaveras with my wife and three year old daughter, feeling like a capital K Kalaveras King with the service we got from our server Stephanie, and I can't wait to proclaim on Yelp for all the world to see that we feel the same way about Stephanie as we THOUGHT she felt about us: That she's deserving of our very best, and wonderful and SPECIAL. But then I see the other reviews: "Stephanie was so wonderful". "Stephanie went out of her way for us!". "Stephanie co-signed our loan!". Okay, maybe that last one is an exaggeration, but the point stands that APPARENTLY Stephanie makes EVERYONE feel special! Gah! If everyone is special, no one is! Now this is the bar to come to for drinks, baby! Get me anything with Tajín on it, and I'm sold. If you're hungry, order the burrito because it's a massive amount of food. You'll be happy to have leftovers in the fridge the next day if you overdo it with their drinks. I call that a win-win! Their servers are amazing at handling big groups when it comes to splitting the tab because we all know this is LA, and for work meetings, that's the usual scenario. I was grateful for that. One of the main reasons we decided to check this place out was because three other places had denied us for wanting to split the bill. We gave this place a chance and were happy we did. read more

Although the ambiance and service at Kalavera's were decent, I was quite disappointed with both the mimosas and the overall food quality. The mimosas lacked champagne and tasted more like a mix of sparkling water and juice. Additionally, the food was far below expectations--lacking flavor and freshness, which was surprising given the reputation of the establishment. I hope this feedback is taken into consideration to improve both the drinks and food quality for future guests. Best regards, Lourdes M. read more

The restaurant just opened recently and it looks like everyone is giving it a try which is why it was soooo busy. The wait was about an hour and a half on Friday, but we enjoyed a drinks with our friends at the bar while we waited. The restaurant was full, so it was on the louder side. Once we sat down, we waited about 15 minutes before getting a server's attention to take our orders, but once this happened, she continued to checked on us. Food: - We ordered the guacamole for the table. The guac was ok (maybe some more lime) but I love that it comes with crispy pork rinds, which makes it carb friendly - Hubby and I shared the molcajete which included steak, shrimp, chicken, cactus and a side of rice and beans - this was DELICIOUS! I love that we got to try all the meats and it was enough to share. The cheese in this dish really stood out and complemented the meal Drinks: I ordered 2 mezcal drinks but they were too sweet, so I ended up ordering straight mezcal and sipping on that while having my mixed drink as a chaser We were celebrating hubby's birthday so about 7-10 employees came over and sang happy birthday and they even had sparklers, which was fun. For just opening, the wait and experience was as expected but I was very pleased with the food. Drinks, ambience and music was good. This isn't where I'd choose to go on date night but definitely where I'd go with friends. read more

This is a new location, so I was prepared to be patient, I went on a tues night and was ignored at the bar , I waited several minutes and not even "be right with you" nothing! I was not even acknowledged! So rude, I left and just continued to wait with my group, we were seated after waiting about 30mins, ordered my drink when we sat down and got some chips and salsa both were good, we got our food AN HOUR And A HALF Later! I only ordered two $5 tacos , a shrimp taco which was EH and I ordered a carnitas taco which was Not good :( , so didn't eat it. I'll wait a few months before going back, hopefully they "get to together" because there are things on the menu that sound really good and it's a different vibe & cool decor I also hope they Turn Down the music down a bit, The volume is just too LOUD! you are yelling the whole time you're in there, I'm all for music, I just think they can turn it down a bit, only since it's a restaurant not a night club read more

This is my 1st time visiting this restaurant. My friend decided to check this restaurant out since it's new in our community. Because it's her birthday she also wanted to celebrate here. There are some good points and there are some bad points so here we go. The decor is nice, unique & fun. The prices are reasonable, and I was surprised to find out that the $5 tacos (each) were part of a Happy hour special (for $3.50 each instead) which they didn't have a menu for anywhere. The tacos were a nice size, delicious and they were able to accommodate my weird pepper allergy, which was a plus (because when I originally called the restaurant, I was told that all meat was delivered to them pre marinated.) But the grilled steak was not hot by the time I got it and the waitress wasn't around. The ambiance is nice, their set up is unique with a mix of colors, including vibrant neons. The restaurant is one big area with a bar in the center and tables and booths surrounding it. The chairs with the tables aren't comfortable, and I kept hitting my elbows. The tables were fairly close to the booths. The staff was nice, but not always attentive. There are fake roses on the walls, a flat screen on the wall, showing music videos of Hispanic music artists. My director was told that they're would be live music, this wasn't the case. There are colorful cylindrical hanging lights that change color, but it was a bit hard to read the menu with the lack of some extra lighting. It's also a bit loud to have any real conversation without yelling across the table. My friend and the rest of the table enjoyed the food, which was great. She told us that she was confused about what she was told prior to coming and she she arrived. On the phone, she was told that reservations could not be made, and when she arrived, they asked her why she didn't make a reservation. I understand that this is a brand new restaurant, and people are being trained, but first impressions are so important, especially to have the right info. They did a great job celebrating my friends birthday with a shot and a flaming thing coming from a cup, a big sign and signing staff. It's a nice restaurant, pretty decor, some staff that needs to be attentive with one last mix up. So i got my bill, As I mentioned, I was presently surprised to see that my tacos were on a happy hour special. My bill was $7.51, and I gave a $10. I was given $2 back, but there was no change. So I asked the waitress and she told me that they didn't give change back at all. That their role was if the bill was under 50 cents, they would round it down to say $7. If the bill, like mine, was over 50, they round up to $8 and give change accordingly. I guess with this plan, they should just automatically round up or down on all our bills. This was a bit weird for me. She asked if I wanted an additional dollar, but the damage was done... I told her no and told her that since they had taken and kept my 49 cents , I would only be giving her a dollar. So yes, her tip was 1.49. This was a good restaurant, but I'm not sure if I'll be back. read more

4 stars is generous but it's was their 3rd day of being open. They have work to do. Happy to see a new eatery in Simi Valley. Unfortunately, we are a "great-food" desert so having a new restaurant come to town is always promising. It's a very busy Saturday night. The wait for table was about 1 hour to 1.5 hours. We left our name and headed to the bar since two stools had become open. There is a very nice selection of tequila, mezcal, and whiskey drinks. They have vodka as well if you prefer that spirit. The margarita flights are popular. You get a tasting of (4) small margs ($35 - mango - pepino - piña - fresa). I wanted a larger drink so elected to go with the full size options from the menu. I tried a little of everything. My Whiskey choice was "GUAYABERA" $16 (whiskey - Guava - pineapple nectar). Next I had the "FUEGO DE DRAGÓN" $18 (habanero-infused mezcal - pomegranate- agave - lemon - cherry bitters). This was my favorite drink of the night. I ordered another at our table and it came smoking inside a coffin!! Then had a "CHAMOYADA" $14 (traditional silver tequila - chamoy - mango purée). Finally, was talked into ordering LA VELA $18 (Serrano infused tequila - mango - pineapple - cucumber -lime juice) from their "secret" menu. Unfortunately they didn't have all the ingredients to make the drink properly. Apparently it's supposed to come on fire. For food, had the enchiladas verdes. They were tasty. A chicken-cheese enchilada served with green sauce, rice and beans. I wish that it would've had some more beans and rice considering they were $20. We waited about an hour and half but luckily we sat at the bar. Overall we had a great time. Kalaveras is a party atmosphere with great food and drinks. Although it's another chain restaurant in Simi, I hope they resolve their service issues so that Simi residents can have a long lasting good restaurant option. read more
