I went to Kai Sweets inside Mitsuwa market to get mochi donuts. I ended up getting one strawberry and one cookies and cream mochi donut, and they were really good--soft, chewy, and way better than a regular donut. I also tried a chocolate waffle! The ordering process was super easy, and the staff was really nice. Definitely a great spot for a quick and tasty treat!

My wife loves their mochi donuts. It's Japanese mochi meets donut. It's moist, chewy with many different flavored frosting on top. The frosting tastes good but some of the flavor don't taste as I've expected. For example, matcha is lacking the tea flavor. The dark chocolate is very good. It's lighter than your regular donuts. Strawberry can be more fruity. That's probably me just being picky. They are donuts frosting after all. Japanese always gives you top notch service. There are many tables where you can sit and enjoy your mochi donuts. They have many other items on the menu from Asian flavored soft served ice cream, drinks, pastries and cake. They opened at 11am instead of 10am as stated on Yelp.

We've gotten soft serve here a few times but this was the first time we tried the montblanc and it was so good! We got the ube one with ube ice cream and it was packed with ube flavor. Next time, I'll have to try the matcha montblanc.

I tried the strawberry cream mochi donut once and it was tasty. I've been in Mitsuwa a couple times since then, around the 3:00 hour, and they only had a handful of donuts left and in only one flavor. The donut was definitely good but availability seems scarce in my experience and I haven't been able to try any more since that first time. I'm thinking they must be pretty good if they're always running out. If you're interested in trying a variety, I would recommend to go earlier in the day

Just ... wow. I got the last 2 donuts because they close early, so couldn't select the flavor. The mochi donuts are fantastic, super light and the frosting is out of this world. Tried the dark chocolate and the mocha.

This is hand's down my favorite mochi donut place in the Tri-state area, and I've been to many many mochi donut places :) It's in Mitsuwa, and there is usually a line, even on weekdays. The service is always friendly and prompt. I love looking for new flavors. My favorite flavors thus far are yuzu, black sesame and pineapple. Give it a try when you are in the area, you won't regret it!

This was my first time ever trying mochi donuts and after trying them at Kai Sweets, I love them more than regular donuts!! The donuts are super light yet sweet! They aren't as indulgent as regular donuts (which I appreciate since regular ones can often be TOO sweet). Overall, they are really chewy because of the mochi. I tried the Oreo, black sesame, dark chocolate, matcha, and yuzu --- if you check out this place, you HAVE to get a whole box and try all the different flavors!

Usually these kinds of fads are slightly disappointing gimmicks for me since the hype is so high and the delivery doesn't live up. But I LOVED the mochi donut!! It's so chewy and yummy, sweet enough but not too sweet. I got the macha donut but I definitely want to try the other flavors too. Yuzu will be next on my list!

When I first saw the mochi donut food trend, I was really interested in trying it so when I took a trip to the Mitsuwa Marketplace, I was excited to find out that Kai Sweets sold them. The spot is located to the left of the main entrance of the supermarket in the food court section. The donuts are very popular so expect longer lines and for flavors to sell out quickly. I've tried the matcha, black sesame, and yuzu citrus flavors. I like the bouncy, chewy texture you won't find in your standard donut. Would I go back?: Only if I'm in the mood for it. Overall, I thought that the mochi donut was pretty overhyped. The flavor didn't really wow me. I would recommend that everyone should try it at least once but, unless I'm in the mood for it, I would probably go to another one of the vendors in the food court area.

Yuzu flavor is the best flavor. It's citrusy, tangy, and everything in between. I didn't get tired of it. I'm never able to finish all the donuts within one day so I just leave them out on the table. By the next day, the top coating has melted a little bit. But fear not, the flavor and texture is still there. Kai Sweets is within Mitsuwa. The last time I went to Mitsuwa, there was a bit of a wait and a long line. But time goes by really fast. It's such a big place so it felt covid-friendly. Everyone was wearing their mask as well. Kai Sweets has a short line sometimes but again, that goes by fast too.

I was lucky enough to snag two boxes of six donuts last Saturday considering that they're generally sold out early! It was buy five, get one free for $15 Yuzu flavor- ranks number one for me! It is soo refreshing, complementing the airiness of the donut itself. The flavor is not too overbearing, but you can def tell it's something citrusy. Double taro flavor- Issa second place. I'm not crazy about ube/taro but this was friggin delicious. Matcha flavor- basic but never gets old! Mocha flavor- I was hesitant to choose this cause I'm not a coffee person but this was surprisingly not bad. Again, the flavor wasn't too strong, and it had a creaminess to it. Oreo flavor- if I closed my eyes and ate this, I'm not sure that I would be able to say that it's Oreo! The Oreo smell is stronger than the taste. Black sesame flavor - just not a huge fan of black sesame, and this donut was packed with it I gave one box to my friend, which contained a strawberry Mochi donut instead of mocha. She said it was her second favorite following yuzu! So I'm going to try that next time

I am satisfied with these donuts! This donut shop is inside of Mitsuwa Marketplace. There was a 10-15min wait to go into the grocery store. And once we got in, it was just my husband and I beelining to the donut shop! And there were only 2 people in line. Great lighting, and a very clean shop! Donuts are so light, fluffy, and 100% worth our money. Each donut is $2.81 each. Buy 5 donuts and get one free. So of course we left with a 1/2 doz donuts. I have to say these donuts are not as chewy (almost like regular donut texture) as the ones I've recently tried from Mochinut in Fortlee, NJ. They are also not as greasy either, which is good, because you know my husband and I will be sharing 3 donut in one sitting and the last 3 donuts for after-dinner dessert. The glaze on these donuts are 1/2 the thickness and 1/2 the sweetness as the ones from Mochinut. Wish it was a thicker glaze, with the same amount of sweetness. The toppings used to decorate the donuts are also 1/2 the amount used in comparison to Mochinut. So in conclusion, if you are more health conscious, but still want to treat yourself, then you might opt for mochi donuts from Mochmochi Kai Sweets. You do get what you pay for and I would definitely return again to try out other flavors. Our favorite flavors are Oreo, strawberry, and matcha. The yuzu citrus was overpowering, I think there were too much citrus peel topping, very tangy. Superb customer service! The girls are all super friendly and efficient. Check out was speedy too!

Bought a box of 6 for $15 (Buy 5 Get 1 Free) - tried matcha (2), black sesame, yuzu, strawberry, and ube w/white chocolate. These mochi doughnuts are soft, chewy, but also light/airy... could easily eat several of these in one sitting if you're not careful. I recommend the yuzu flavor. It's citrus-y and a tiny bit bitter, which helped to balance out the sweetness of the frosting. If you want something a tad sweeter, try the strawberry or ube w/white chocolate. The strawberry flavor reminded me of the crunchy strawberry Pocky (the one with bits of strawberry). The ube mixed with white chocolate was definitely one of the sweeter ones and it's also purple inside (however, there wasn't really much of an ube flavor in the dough). The matcha and black sesame were just okay - would've preferred a stronger matcha/black sesame flavor. Certain flavors tend to sell out more frequently than others, so make sure to grab them when you see them! The first time I stopped by, they were out of yuzu and told me that they were making more (takes about 15-20 min.). I wanted to put in my order (since the other flavors I wanted were available) and come back for pickup once the yuzu was ready, but unfortunately they said that they can't do that. It's more cost effective to buy all 6 doughnuts at once, so I decided to come back later. Came back about half an hour later, waited on line again, and saw that the yuzu was re-stocked. Sadly, the passion fruit (one of the flavors I wanted to try) was all gone by the time it was my turn to order. Ugh.

Filled donuts are bursting at the seams with custard that tastes like egg yolks, cream, sugar, vanilla and little else. The orange cream cheese donut is generously frosted with, I'd guess, a mixture of cream cheese, marmalade, powdered sugar, and cream. Based on what we've tried, the donuts at Caroline's are old fashioned, unadulterated and excellent. I recently picked up four donuts for the fambly: the aforementioned orange cream cheese, creme brulee, Boston cream, and raspberry glaze donuts. This was in the afternoon around 4 p.m. and all of them were perfectly, wondrously fresh. The person at the counter (the male proprietor, I think) assured me in his charming French accent that they freshly fry donuts several times a day. Creme brulee was the fan favorite with the hard, crisp, sugar shell on top cracking delicately under a knife to reveal a loose, rich, custardy filling. But across the board, donuts were beautifully made (both aesthetic and delicious!), and well frosted / glazed / filled. The raspberry glaze by itself was a touch too sweet for our tastes, but applied with restraint so the overall effect was balanced. We are not in the donut market very often, but have had this place bookmarked ever since my esteemed Yelp colleague, Alan S., reviewed it last year. Now that we've tried these beauties, I think we're going to find many excuses to be back (e.g. for Hannukah sufganiyot, anything round for Lunar New Year, anything fried for Diwali, anything that can support a candle for birthdays, etc...).We really like this place and we suspect you will, too.

I have been to Caroline's several times since it opened its doors to the public. I've tried a few of their items, including the glazed twist, Boston creme, coffee donut, and strawberry filled. The glaze twist is one of my favorites. It's wonderfully sweet while not cloying, and I especially enjoy topping it with the Bon Mama berry jam I have at home. The Boston creme is truly made with love. It's sufficiently stuffed with creme and topped with a thick layer of chocolate ganache - the expensive stuff! The coffee donut is also delicious. Of everything I've tried, the strawberry filled was my favorite. You can tell their strawberry compote is homemade and not too sweet. The dough is light and fluffy and generously coated with granulated sugar. What a treat!
