When KBBQ doesn't "hit". I'm a huge fan of kbbq so it's not like this is a first timer review. Dinner for two here is between $150-$200 depending on what you get. First, the good: the servers offer to change the grills out frequently and that is needed because they get nasty fast here. The seating situation is not bad either, the place is big and open. The beef belly and pork belly were pretty good. The meh: The banchans were hit or miss. Some where tasty and others felt kinda flat, bland, or lower quality. The fresh water eel had a weird consistency but tasted good. The not great: Paying $23 more on top of the AYCE price for ribeye that doesn't taste the best. It kinda looked like they were passing short rib off as ribeye to be honest. The bad: A lot of the meats had unnatural consistency from the over use of tenderizer. The salmon had a weird orange color and tasted awful. There were only a few banchans offered. Usually when paying $150+ I'd expect better sides. I've dined in here several times and I've ordered Uber eats several times and now I'm ordering takeout for the first time. You just walk in up to the counter, You're always greeted quickly and with a friendly face. Place your order, have a seat and the food comes out within 10 minutes or so. On this visit, I was given a complimentary glass of their cinnamon tea to enjoy while I waited on the food. It was good, But it was strong cinnamon and sweet. I love the barley tea, It's mild and has good health benefits. Anywho, I always order the japchae appetizer. You get so much and it is absolutely delicious. You can tell that they make it fresh. Typical kbbq spot with several diff tiers of ayce options. We dropped in on a Sat night around 730 and had no wait. Service was friendly and mostly prompt. They did a good job of swapping out the grills constantly. Meat quality even at first tier was pretty legit. Only minor complaint is some of the spicy options was nothing more than the base meat with some sauce put on top, not really pre-marinated or anything. Kbbq steak was a bit on the dry and tough side. We have been two times and each time the experience has been great! I love the robot that brings your dishes over. The servers are always helpful and pleasant. I brought my niece to try it out and she loved the bulgogi while I savored the LA ribs. So good! This was our first Korean bbq experience and it was awesome! There were 3 people in our party and we went with the all you can eat combo. Two of us wanted A and one person wanted B. The only unfortunate thing is everyone has to order from the same category so we all had to get the pricier option B even if we weren't eating what it offered. My favorite was the soy sauce marinated pork belly which was sweet and flavorful. The beef bulgogi was also amazing. There are plenty of sauce options to choose from. I found it helpful to season the meat with pepper and salt while it was on the grill before dipping. The sides and rice are unlimited with any of the combos. The tempura veggies were so good and the dipping sauce served with them paired perfectly. The side of egg was very fluffy like a soufflé, it went well with meat and rice. There are robots who approach the tables with your food which is so cute! The wait staff was quick with putting the orders in and changing the grill. Besides Charm, Gangnam, and Chosun Galbi, there are very few all you can eat kbbq places, and K BBQ is one of the more solid ones. We went on a Saturday night, and the wait was only around 15 minutes. We were seated and then ordered our first couple trays of meat. The server was very nice and attentive. We ordered shrimp and she even peeled the shrimp for us. The meat quality was good, and you'll definitely be satisfied with taste. We really liked the Jumulleok and the Chadol (thinly sliced beef brisket). I would definitely give K BBQ a high 4 stars, the only downside being the price ($50-$60 after tax and tip). I went with my friend right at opening on a Saturday and was sat immediately. We opted in for the all you can eat BBQ "A" menu since it was the most affordable all you can eat option, and had plenty of meat selections to choose from. There was a robot that came out to deliver our meats to us quickly. My friend used sesame oil to grease the cooking surface of the grill so our meat would not stick to it, it would've been nice if oil was supplied at the table. Since so much of our meat stuck to the grill, our server, Jen, came to our table about 10 times within two hours to change our grill. She even came to cut and flip our meat for us. Pretty good and, unlike many AYCE KBBQ places, this one has pretty good options on the cheapest option. I really enjoyed the spicy thin sliced pork belly and the "wagyu" spicy beef belly. Food is delivered on robots which is sort of neat. My only concern is that multiple tables' orders could be on one robot. Who knows if the table before you touched yours, sneezed on it, etc. Haha. Really, my only complaint is that the grills aren't the great. Things easily stick to them and there are no vents. So they are constantly trying to change your grill out (due to the smoke) when all of the cooked on bits is what adds so much flavor. The biggest complaint - not about this business but about the whole shopping complex - is parking is TERRIBLE and the people who drew the lines wanted to get as many spots as possible. I can honestly say this place has the best quality meat and taste by far from any AYCE I have tried in from San Antonio to Round Rock. My sister agreed in response. The meats were extremely tasty. This place has gone down hill quickly. My husband and I used to come every couple of weeks but the last few times haven't been great. For the last several visits, they have turned our grill up way too hot where our stuff burns quickly. They'll come and turn it down after the 3rd or so tray replacement but they're not very attentive to you so you kind of have to wave them down to get anything done. Drinks take 15+ minutes to get brought out. They pretty much rely on their little robot to bring you everything and hope you don't have any issues in between ordering and needing the check. The last time we went really set the tone and we will be looking for a different Korean bbq place to spend our time and money. Every single grill plate they brought to us had burnt stuff on it. None of them were clean. Since the grill was so hot and we were having to have ours replaced so often, we went through 5-6 different ones that were all dirty before we started using it. I come from SoCal, so I've had my fair share of AYCE KBBQ spots. I know that Austin's Asian food scene isn't as developed as California's, so I set my expectations accordingly. Was excited to give this place a try given the all you can eat style, however, I was overall pretty disappointed. I didn't come here expecting Michelin-star tasting KBBQ, but I definitely had higher expectations. Most of the meats we tried were pretty bland, and some of them didn't even taste fresh. The "marinade" was either sauce squirted all over it the way ketchup is dumped on fries (and mostly to cover up the lack of freshness), or chunky garlic bits. Nothing was truly marinated to create any actual flavor. We went as a group of 4 and just went with their most basic offering, option A. The service was good, but nothing spectacular. They changed out our grill about 3 times throughout the duration of our stay, which was nice. But we had to ask for water refills and we stacked all of the empty/dirty dishes for our server to help make room for new orders, and she would never take them when she brought new orders. The beef wagyu had so much cartilage in it, it was difficult to eat and not enticing. The best meat we probably ate the most of was the chadol. We tried: chadol, both wagyus, the thin sliced pork belly, both chickens, and the soy sauce baby octopus. The chicken takes so dang long to cook it's almost not worth getting, and you couldn't even taste a difference between the two "flavors." Disappointing all around.
