My wife and I had a great first experience at Juniper before the Opera last night. This is a great place and location for dinner before a show at TPAC. The service was friendly, quick, informative, and overall fantastic! I like the rustic, yet modern, look and feel of the inside. It's not too big inside, which is good for a more intimate setting. Now for the food rundown: 1) Grilled beef tenderloin (medium rare) with an added crab cake: The beef was full of flavor, cooked perfectly, and almost fork tender. The seared crust was perfectly salty and crispy as well. The crab cake was delicious, but a little small and the pepper flavor almost overpowered the crab. 2) Seared scallops with pork belly: again, the sear was perfect and the scallops were delicious. Pork belly had a sweet crusted glaze on it that made it a perfect contrast, yet compliment, to the scallops. 3) Root Risotto: the risotto itself was super creamy, almost like a homemade Mac and cheese. The carrot and parsnip topper was flavored with cinnamon, cumin, and a couple of other spices that added a great depth and dimension to the risotto. Loved it! 4) Creme brûlée: perfect crispy sugar top and creamy flavorful inside. It was complimented with a dried fruit compote on top that made it really delicious! 5) Justin's Chocolate pie: Fantastic! Really had a deep dark chocolate flavor that I didn't think was possible to achieve in a lighter, mousse-like filling. I might have audibly groaned while eating it. This restaurant is a hidden gem in the heart of downtown Tulsa. Everything was spot on from the moment I entered: the attentive service, the cleanliness and the chic ambience of the space. I ordered the chopped romaine salad and mushroom bolognese, as well as the Worker Bee mocktail. The salad was fresh, and the bolognese came with a kind of fried cheese ball on top that was delightful. The mocktail was sweet, sharp and refreshing. The ambience is stiff and rigid. Almost like you are in a library and everyone is afraid to make too much noise. The food is... suboptimal for the price. I have tried the brussels sprouts, chicken curry, beef stroganoff, veggie pappardelle, and baked eggplant (might have been a seasonal item). I can get the same food but better at Doc's, Nola's, Fish Daddy's, and any other restaurant in Tulsa for a better price. The staff is in between friendly and unfriendly. Standoffish is the best word to describe them. I do not have anything negative to say anything about them, but I also do not have anything positive. However, I expect more for the cost of going. I have been to this restaurant a few times with friends and on dates as I like to give places a second chance, and I like to base a honest review off of multiple experiences. All in all, I would suggest any restaurant in Tulsa over Juniper (including most fast food) unless you really need to find out for yourself. We went here for graduation dinner and got the tasting menu with wine pairings and were beyond impressed. The only downside was the loud table of millennials next to us--vaping in the restaurant and very inconsiderate. The food though made all of that go away. I am as disappointed as you are giving this place two stars. It was a tad embarrassing to me because I suggested you guys to my group because from my experiences in the past. The special of the day was halibut $41 per serving. Three out of 4 of us left hungry. The portions were no more than 4oz a piece. 4oz for $41, I though chef Ramsay was the head chef that night. All of our fish were over cooked. I brought it up to our server and she said "oh really?" And walked away. The only good thing out our dinner were our drinks from the bar which were well done. This place is adorable! I found it from Yelp!, of course, and made a reservation for my weekend getaway to Tulsa. The service was incredible but let me just talk about the Whipped Goat Cheese appetizer. H-O-L-Y S-M-O-K-E-S! This was all time favorite appetizer I have had in my entire life. It is a dish with whipped goat cheese, honey, olive oil and chives (I think). A side of crunchy bread and prosciutto and your taste buds are on cloud 9 million. The sweet of the honey with the savory of the goat cheese and salty prosciutto - I am drooling thinking about it. We liked it so much we even ordered a second one for later that evening to enjoy over more drinks at our hotel. We still to this day talk about this appetizer and it has been 2 months since our visit to Juniper. I want to serve that appetizer at my wedding someday - no joke. We also tried the brown butter trout, seasonal risotto and salmon dishes which were also good but the only small issue is that we think they may have had a refrigerant leak. The guest I was with is a director of facilities and could taste the refrigerant in the veggies of his dish. My "non-refined pallet" could not taste this but he stopped eating because it bothered him. The service was great and the restaurant is cozy like you're dining with friends at their house. Fabulous dinner! Started out with a really good Cosmopolitan. They had a great cocktail list but I went with my usual standard-the choices looked really good though! They have house infused vodkas, gins and flavored bitters. Their menu is really unique and changes with the seasons. They even grow their own herbs in the alleyway garden. We were there for a special occasion-my cousin's birthday. We had a table of 12. Our waitress Ashley took great care of us the whole evening. The table shared several appetizers- I especially loved the mushroom fritto-buttermilk fried mushrooms and vegetables with sage aioli and the steamed mussels and escargot. Their fall menu had many great choices. Since we were there on December 30th, we got to order from their 2016 Year in Review Menu-it was a really cute theme, having special dishes in honor of 2016 events, such as the Cubs winning the World series-some kind of hot dog (but upscale) entree. I had the Trump Filet-awesome filet with wonderful fries and an edible gold foil on top! My husband had the ribeye stroganoff and he said it was the best one he has ever had! He is not usually a stroganoff fan but this one was different (even better than the one at Angel's Hollow in Breckenridge, CO-which was hard to beat!). I wish I had tried my cousin's pumpkin risotto-you can get that as either an entree or a side. My cousin loved it! I got the fried brussel sprouts as my side dish-delicious! I had one of the most beautiful lunches of my life at Juniper. The space is downright dreamy, and has a rustic, romantic vibe. I felt like I should have been wearing a flowy sundress and a headband made of flowers. On this visit I was lunching with Sarah M and Julie S, and I think it's safe to say that we were all blown away. I started with the sweet carrot soup with chive crème fraÎche and fresno chili oil, and was so impressed. The soup was creamy, and savory with a touch of sweet... truly the perfect start to a lazy summer lunch. Afterwards, I had the spring garden salad with cucumber, green onion, peas, herbed yogurt, shaved radish, and lemon vinaigrette. Words can't properly express how much I loved this salad. I eat a ton of vegetables every day, but the way this colorful creation is prepared is in a league of its own. We scratched the healthy plan when we decided to order the banana bread pudding, but it was truly worth every bite. Juniper, I'll be visiting you again as soon as I can. Shocked that I have not reviewed before. Hard to improve upon the Yelp love given already, but here are my highlights. - $8 lunch specials absolutely cannot be beat. They mix it up with a sandwich / pasta / fish tacos and side (any side / even soup), for only $8. A steal. Gnocchi and any of their inspired sandwiches are a must order. Their fish tacos have been just okay for me. - Solid weekend brunch as well, appropriate for the youngsters for that seating. - Inspired bar selections. Unique cocktails and they mix it up seasonally. - Dinner - great atmosphere / service and a menu quality that is commensurate with the price. For the budget conscious, stay with lunch. This is my favorite of the Justin Thompson restaurants (his too!). It is an absolute delight to take new-comers here. Highly recommended. read more

Came here on a Tuesday for their $8 lunch special - Beef Bourguignon Poutine. It was okay - not super amazing, but not horrible. The fries themselves were REALLY good. Not sure if I'm a fan of the beef bourguignon though. The fresh bread and butter that were brought out were also really good, as was the hamburger my sister ordered. Service was really attentive. Traumatized by events earlier in the day while on our road trip from NY to NM, we landed in Tulsa, OK for the night. When we arrived we wanted to try some of the local food (as the food junkies we are). Juniper was a restaurant downtown that on Google reviews was a must try for the area. When we arrived there was plenty of park and pay parking right outside the restaurant. As we entered, the atmosphere was noted to be clean and the staff were friendly. The prices on the menu were on the higher end but by the end of the meal we understood why. Erik, our waiter was very polite and personable. We ordered the duck and trout, both of which were untouchable (beyond delicious). The duck was cooked just right and the trout flavors hit the spot. THE BREAD PUDDING IS A MUST TRY. Sweet enough to satisfy the sweet tooth but not enough to activate your pancreas' insulin release! I've driven by this place many times and have always wanted to try it so I decided to take my wife for a pre-birthday celebration. I made reservations ahead and when walking into the establishment l, we were asked if we could be helped. The place is a bit small and little less upscale than what I had hoped. We were sat in the back at a small table near the kitchen which perhaps turned out to be a benefit as I was able to scan the entire restaurant. Our waiter was friendly however didn't really come to check on us much to refill our water or ask if we cared for a refill on our cocktails. My wife tried the sangria which she thought was nice. Since it was a special night I decided to get their 5 course tasting menu for two with the with the wine pairing. Our food was less than impressive for what you pay, however the pairing experience id like to try again at a different restaurant and maybe truly appreciate the complimentary flavors. I think our favorite item on that menu was the green toast. The brown butter trout I personally found to be dry and a bit overcooked. With the seared duck breast, the carrot goat cheese purée was ok, however if eaten with the couscous it ate well. The frisée pear salad was essentially a spring mix salad. I had to send it back because old pieces in it. When it returned it appeared they just took off the old pieces and I was left with 3/4 of a salad. The salad was also undressed and I struggled to find the flavor. The dessert was decent but truth be told I ate some and boxed the rest and had no desire to finish it. Juniper is one of those few unique restaurants where I trust the staff/chef to push me out of my comfort zone and try new things that sound crazy at the time. This restaurant has so much to offer and is constantly evolving, which is one of the many things I love about it. It takes something special for me to give a restaurant 5 stars...and let me tell you, Juniper has it! My husband and I spent this past weekend in Tulsa and we carefully chose a few restaurants to eat at. The menu just seemed to have a lot of interesting things on it, so we had to find out for sure. So glad we did. First of all, the restaurant itself is very elegantly done. Not too dim. The kitchen is open for all the patrons to see, and I like that aspect a lot. The service was impeccable. We had a great waiter; he was everything you would expect from a fine dining establishment. More importantly, however - the food. For appetizer, I had the Sweet Carrot Soup. This was absolutely amazing. Texture was velvety and smooth. It was not as sweet as the title suggests, which is a good thing, I think. It was very savory with a hint of sweet. Loved it. My husband got one of the weekly specials, Porter Peach Pork Belly. It was artfully placed atop warm corn pone. It was interesting to say the least (I tried his food, and we both agree). We've had better pork belly, but the peach purée went very well with it. The fail was the corn pone - very dry. Not sure if that's normal for corn pone, but we didn't like. Entree for me was the Ricotta Gnocchi with Summer Ratatouille. This was to die for. First of all, the gnocchi was crispier than you would probably be used to, but I now know that I prefer it that way. It gave it another texture and made it more interesting. Still creamy on the inside. Just delicious. My husband had the coffee rubbed tenderloin. He said it was cooked perfectly and wasn't too overpowering just a nice added coffee flavor. We both shared a side of the brown butter brussel sprouts, and these were the best brussel sprouts I've ever had. Buttery and charred to perfection. Dessert was the Honey Lavender Bread Pudding. Ummm, hello?! Heaven in a bowl for sure. Warm and comforting, and the golden raisins were just the right touch. Hubby got the chocolate sampler, which was a trio of devils food, truffle, and mousse all made in house. He said it was nothing over the top, but the fact it was homemade was pretty impressive. Juniper is a fantastic choice if you're into fine dining. I was so happy that we picked this place for our short weekend. Even the corn pone was not enough to make me think otherwise. I'm a creature of habit, almost to a fault, so when I find something I really like at a restaurant, I tend to order that each time. That's how I am with Juniper's beef stroganoff. Instead of the tough, chewy meat typically associated with the dish, theirs consists of tender, juicy beef tenderloin, cooked to individual preference--medium rare, please. The pasta is homemade, and the sauce is delectable. My hubby got the pork loin, which he really enjoyed, and had enough to take home for another day. If you've never tried the goat cheese appetizer, it's worth the splurge. Dessert--we usually don't order it, but couldn't pass up the chocolate Oreo crust pie--yummy!! The wait staff is so attentive without feeling like they're hovering, and the atmosphere is perfect for that special dinner date. I ordered the charcuterie board and the "duck both ways." The charcuterie board has both pate and duck liver mousse. The mousse was so good. The duck two ways was cooked perfectly. I didn't like the stringy side but luckily it was a small portion of the plate. I wish I had room to try the drinks because they looked good. I only had 45 minutes to eat an early dinner so I was a little leery to drop into a higher end restaurant but I was specifically craving their beef stroganoff.  I walked in and asked to sit at the bar.  I was promptly greeted.  I placed my order.  They brought a little salmon appetizer teaser then my bread with a delicious tangy butter.  My meal came out shortly after.  This is hands down the best melt in your mouth beef stroganoff.  The steak was done to perfection and the sauce on the pasta has a zing to it.  Yes, I used my bread to clean my bowl.  At @$30 for this plate it isn't fast food prices but they blew me away with how quickly I was taken care of!  Great food, wonderful service! read more

Juniper is so good! I have really enjoyed coming here. Their tasting menu is such a wonderful price value and everything has been so yummy. As a west coast native, I had never thought to order beef stroganoff at a fine dining establishment. I was definitely blown away by this dish at Juniper. It is definitely my go-to whenever I visit and I'm never disappointed! The service is good, and their cocktails are good (though I think the cocktails at Hodges and Valkyrie are better). Recommend going to Juniper for dinner if you've never been, and definitely recommend spending the money on the tasting menu! read more

This was an all-around great experience. I was greeted by at least 3 of the workers & an additional employee was making sure I was ok. So first impressions got my attention as soon as I stepped in the door. They have good deals on drinks to go with your brunch, I went with the mimosas. You can choose between cranberry, orange & pineapple juice to mix. My waitress was great! & then, I ordered the Pork Belly & French Toast Benedict. Very savory. The poached eggs stole the show. Sitting on top of the French Toast along with the arugula. The maple hollandaise was pretty sweet. It all balanced out. The fruit was good too. That was my first time having poached eggs & I might to starting having them more often that way. They have a creative selection with their brunch. It took make a minute to make a decision. I don't know if we caught the chef on a cold grill but my wife and I got the taster with a wine pairing and an extra seared duck with our protein course tonight, everything was excellent except for the risotto and the duck, the risotto was undercooked, the arborio rice wasn't cracked and never got toasted. The duck was completely raw on one side, and the sirlion wasn't seasoned (it was cooked absolutely perfectly though). We were offered a dessert in recompense, but an $80 per head restaurant should have much better quality control and should definitely offer a recook for a protein course. I gave this two stars because the atmosphere was good and the experience was okay for an expensive Tulsa restaurant. P.S. This restaurant touts farm to table but wasn't able to procure any of the local farm's names, it wasn't on the menu either. If you're a a foodie or a home cook, read their menu and cook it yourself! My last experience at Juniper wasn't the best but the one I just had at their Harvest wine dinner erased that from my mind. Course after course of decadent food. Platters and platters of meat perfectly cooked just laid out before you. I loved all of the unique pairings. It wasn't just wine but also beer and a cocktail. I couldn't eat everything but our lovely server was happy to make us all to go boxes and put them in bags for us so that we could have a second crack at this feeling and wonderful dinner. I love that they donated a turkey to the food bank for every Harvest dinner bought. I will definitely check this one out next year and keep my eyes open for other ones they have throughout the seasons. read more

This place is fantastic. The food is out of this world and the service is superb and the atmosphere is upscale yet comfortable. The first time we went, I thought it was just OK and honestly I don't even remember what I ordered. This last time, we all ordered appetizers to share, so we got the brussel sprouts, scallops and charcuterie board. We had to stop the guys from licking their plates. Everything was delicious. We all ended up opting for the tasting menu because none of us could decide on just one dish. I am so glad we did. Not only was it priced extremely well for the amount of food you get, you get to taste 5 different things from the menu and all were just 5 star quality and presentation. I did have to take half of my steak and all of my dessert home because I just couldn't eat one more bite. By far our favorite was the autumn risotto. WOW!!!!!!!!! Simply one of the best dishes I have ever had. The carrot puree was to die for. My next favorite was the tenderloin, it melted in your mouth. And somehow they even made kale taste good. For my boyfriend and I's anniversary, we visited this cute restaurant in the corner of Tulsa downtown! The atmosphere was sophisticated but not to where you have to wear a suit and tie. In terms of food, it was delicious! I must admit they are small dishes but pack a punch of flavor! I had the duck breast and my boyfriend had the scallop, and they were cooked perfectly. We also had appetizers, whip goat cheese and Brussels sprouts, which helped filled our tummies. After mentioning our celebration, they gave us complimentary Prosecco, which ended our night so well.
