Alvin, Wendy, and Edward were my favorite. I lived just a few blocks away from here and really enjoyed their company when the restaurant was slow. The Jpan Roll is the best I have ever had and for a bit, there was a roll that I created. Ask for the "Jeilynn Roll" They will get quite the kick I bet if someone asks for it. Every time I visit New York, I go here, no matter where else I am in the City. Definitely best Japanese Sushi restaurant in most of Brooklyn! read more

A typical evening for me: - Get off the train after work, go to the grocery store with aspirations of cooking myself a healthy and affordable dinner. - Arrive at my apartment and realize that I'm too tired/hungry/lazy/hot to cook. - Call JPan. - Wait 5 minutes. Walk 3 blocks. Pick up my eel avocado and seaweed salad. - Devour everything in 3.6 minutes. JPan is great, fresh, fast, not the cheapest in the neighborhood, but well worth it. I'm pretty predictable when it comes to my sushi choices (eel avo duhhh, maybe some shumai if I'm feeling funky), but I recently invested in a Kirin roll ($10) and was well pleased. Soft shell crab, avocado & cucumber, topped with tuna & eel, a good treat! Bonus points: the people who take the phone orders are fast and easy to understand. read more

On a whim, after looking at Brooklyn Palm House as a potential wedding venue, we found you. We looked desperately on our Yelp! app for some good sushi on a lowly Wednesday afternoon in Prospect Heights, and we found you. And you were so, so delicious. Jpan is just an all-around good sushi bar. No complaints here. The service was SUPER attentive. I had to go to the bathroom so much the rest of the day because of how often my green tea mug was refilled. I ordered the lunch special two rolls (I chose eel/avocado and shrimp tempura), miso and salad. Everything was great. The eel was fresh and the shrimp tempura was that great mix of squishy and crunchy that just makes your palate sensors tingle! My sister and I split a special roll, the Ocean Roll, which was so much fun because it rolled together both eel and shrimp tempura into a succulent and sweet roll. LOVED. I don't find myself in Prospect Heights often, but next time I do, I will be sure to hit up Jpan! read more

Nice location, but poor customer service. Food was chewy and salty. Overpriced for average sushi

Has anyone experienced the magic of the back yard? Its fantastic. So quiet and lovely. The sushi is great, large pieces, prices are just right. Never had the sake there, but heard it is also worth the price you pay. A great mid-day treat, the lunch special cannot be compared to any other sushi place. Service is always friendly :) Sometimes it looks a little bit empty, no idea why, it is really great. And the decor is cute and embraces the quaint experience of sushi consumption. UPDATE: EXTRA STAR for being WAY better than blue ribbon. woo-hoo! read more

Yet another early birthday dinner for me. And also a late birthday dinner for a friend that suggested this place. It had a nice ambience and nice people. We started off with the spicy sashimi mix, fried oysters and a lobster thing (which was not on their regular menu). We couldn't finish our appetizers still we ordered an entree and two more special rolls. Damn, us Asian girls can eat! read more

The Bad - Takes a while for sushi to be made The Good - Zen Garden Roll (awesome veggie roll--totally worth it) - White Seaweed Roll (first time I ever tried a white seaweed roll and it tastes pretty darn good!) - J Pan Roll (this has to be good since they used their name) - Country Roll The Bottomline- Worth checking out. Sushi is not overly priced. Their price matches their quality in other words. Order the rolls I recommended and of course you can try the regular rolls as well. But special rolls first!!! read more

Yet another review in my list of Asian lunch specials.... Good price, good atmosphere (mostly - see below for explanation, but it's not the restaurants fault at all), some tasty food, but some really bland food as well. $8.50 for a lunch special here :) Love that - and you get a good handful of food. I got the chicken teriyaki, and it came with soup, salad, a whole california roll, 2 shumai, some veggies with the chicken, and rice (also could have had noodles). Bad side: Chicken was some of the LEAST flavorful chicken I have had in a japanese restaurant. The teriyaki sauce was almost colorless, and didn't taste a lot like teriyaki. The lunch hour in a summer midweek day is slow. Apparently, that makes it ok for 12 year old kids (seriously - had not hit puberty yet, and came into the restaurant on razor scooters) to lunch with me. Thank goodness I was at least 10 feet away (felt bad for the single guy trying to read a magazine right next to them), but I did get to hear some stimulating conversations about summer camps and parents yelling because of the text message charges... I know this was not the restaurants fault, but it did slightly sour the lunch hour for me. That being said - the restaurant overall is cute. There is some great decor and it looks clean and professional. The price is right for lunch, and they seem to have some great dinner specials as well, however, if I come back, I will stay as far away from the teriyaki as possible. read more

WOW. I made the trek down here from the UES for a friend's party, and it was well worth the trip!! Everything was fantastic from the unique tuna dumpling appetizer I had heard about to the fabulous service and house sake. The outdoor dining area flanked with bamboo is a real hidden gem. We had a group of about 15 at a large table and it felt like our own private backyard. I would highly recommend the tasting menu. For just $27, you get a soup/salad (large portions!), an appetizer, and an entree. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish mine so go hungry! read more

The best! I always take folks who like sushi here and they are ALWAYS blown away by the quality and creativity of some of the rolls. The year after year crowd pleaser: The JPAN roll. The rolls are probably the best section of the menu, though in all fairness I've never had a bad meal there no matter what I've gotten. Across the street there is another sushi restaurant that always has a sign up along the lines of "50% off sushi!". While Jpan doesn't compete in price, the difference in customer count shows that it doesn't matter; you're paying for good quality at Jpan. read more

I've been coming here for a few years now. Never disappointed. The food and atmosphere is always great. The service is excellent. I love their Tuna Dumpling and their spicy miso soups. The flavor can't compare to other places. They're good for small or large groups. The ambience is good. read more

Had a delicious first dinner at Jpan. We ordered miso soup, which was scald-the-tongue hot, but yummy. Alsp - spicy tuna roll, philadelphia roll and excellent roll (tuna, avocado, crab, jalapeno). I wasn't a fan of the whole japapenos, but the other rolls were tasty and, importantly, fresh. Service was extremely attentive and friendly. Almost too attentive because there was nobody else in the place when I was there. But you can't really fault them for that. The staff really was pleasant, helpful and attitude-free. it's fun to sit in the front window and people watch along 5th avenue or there is outdoor seating in the back for a more peaceful meal. Be sure you check out the bathroom. They get an A for effort with that remodeling. read more

I actually give this place 3 and 1/2 stars if I could, but I can't so I'll give it 3. First off, I know people don't usually rave about service, but the waiters here were super nice, very polite, and more than willing to explain items on the menu. 5 stars for service I ordered the tofu salad for an appetizer but they were all out. I'm not really sure what they were out of....... the tofu or the vegetables, but whatever. Minus 1/2 a star. I ordered the red oyster and the phoenix roll. The tuna that was wrapped around the oyster was deteriorating and mushy. The wasabi sauce for the roll was too much. Minus 1 star. read more

Great experience here! Went on a rainy Saturday night with a friend in town - no wait, got a cute little table in the back. Hit of the night was the "surprise roll" -- spicy tuna with grilled banana. Delicious, and the prices were reasonable too. Will definitely be back next time I'm looking for sushi in the Slope! read more

My go-to Japanese joint. Food is ALWAYS FRESH, and ready fast. Plus their staff are always friendly. Miso soup, and yaki udon never disappoint. read more

Jpan is the BEST!! Seriously one of my favorite Sushi spots in NYC. It's a low key place, with delicious sushi and its very reasonable. The staff is super nice. MUST TRY: Fantastic Roll -- If you love Chilean Seabass, you will love this roll. They're also consistent which is very important when you love a place and hope the next time you go is just as good. read more

I've ordered from Jpan 5 times so far and every time has been amazing. Their 'Maki Lunch Special' is definitely a good deal! So far, I've had the Miso Soup, Salad, California Roll, Spicy Tuna Roll, Salmon Avocado Roll, and Shrimp Tempura Roll. The fish tastes fresh and the quality is there. The delivery is often faster than I expect. I have never been to the restaurant so I am unable to comment on the atmosphere. A little criticism, not enough to detract a star from the overall picture is that the Spicy Tuna should be a bit more *spicy* as sometimes it's a little bland and the ginger that comes on the side should be fresher. I've had a few pieces that were browning and I just leave them to the side, and I love ginger! Keep up the good work Jpan!!! read more

You walk down 5th ave and you will see a place called jpan. Now I have heard reviews on this place for all over but I had to try it myself. You walk in and a server greets you at the door they bring you to your table and ask your order... nothing strange there. The ambiance of restaurant was very nice and its simplicity was what make it so unique. The wine choices were ok. The plum wine.... wow. So me my fiance and my 4 friends ordered and the food came really fast which was a plus. Now the sushi on the other hand I can honestly say if had better. Look at the rest of my reviews you'll see where. Anyways I wont say the sushi was bad.. oh no just I put my sushi up against one place that blew my mind thats all. Again getting off topic.. The dragon roll that has eel in it tasted pretty unclean. I've had dragon rolls in a lot of places and this was my first bad experience. Other than that the rest was ok. One thing I wish they sold was some coffee. Sometimes after a long days work you need a cup of coffee after your meal read more

I have been meaning to review Jpan for a while. I have dined in and gotten delivery from here on multiple occasions. The food and service are consistently stellar. The restaurant's ambience is great as well, both inside and in the spacious back patio, so I recommend dining in at least once. My favorite dishes are the spicy tuna twister, the spicy scallop avocado roll, and the fantastic roll. The latter contains grilled chilean sea bass and more than lives up to its name. They will also make your sushi with brown rice for 50 cents extra if you ask ( a major plus in my book). My dining companion let me sample some of her vegetable udon, which besides being a very generous portion was wonderfully fresh and flavorful. The vegetables tasted as though the chef had picked them from his very own garden in the back patio just minutes before serving it. The prices are fairly reasonable at Jpan. They're not the cheapest, but you get what you pay for. Their food is filling, and you end up paying less and leaving more satisfied than at other restaurants in the area. Your water glass will always be full, and the staff won't give you grief if you linger long after you have devoured your meal, sipping on your water and enjoying good conversation in their tranquil surroundings. read more

This place has the best food, atmosphere, and service. I would always enjoy having a date night with my wife here. Their three course meal is absolutely wonderful. Definitely try the tuna dumpling, spicy miso soup, and all entrees. I haven't had any dish that I didn't like at the restaurant. read more

One of the best sushi spots we have found in a long time. Hi quality every time and great menu

On first glance, this place doesn't catch your eye. It is a small box of a restaurant located on the busy 5th ave. But the food more than made up for it. All of the fish was fresh and flavorful. The sake oyako don offered three different types of salmon sashimi, which our table of 3 enjoyed thoroughly. The was layers on layers of fish, including toro, uni, and roe. Even the spicy miso ramen was great, with flavorful broth. I can still feel it warming both my stomach and my soul. The service was a bit slow, especially given the size of the establishment, but that will not stop me from returning. read more

By far the area's best sushi delivery. This place is really a step above your standard sushi take out places. It's the quality you'd expect at 5-star omakase experience. I cannot recommend it enough and it's the one place I will order from now. read more

I have been here twice and it's just great - Excellent sushi and friendly staff at a good price. I plan to go back again and again.

A gem in a sea of mediocrity. I went here on a Saturday afternoon for lunch and, against all expectations, had some of the best sushi I've tasted in a long time. We ordered two rolls -- the summer roll and the 'fantastic roll.' Both were made with good fresh ingredients and were topped with tangy sauces that matched the fish perfectly. It took a while to get the food (especially since we were the only people there for a late afternoon lunch), but it was worth the wait. The chefs obviously take some pride in their product and took the time to make something worthwhile. We didn't get any sushi a la carte, but my experience with the rolls leads me to believe it would be terrific. The decor is nothing special, but no matter. read more

Ended up at JPan with the GF because neighboring Song was packed this past Friday. Nice decor, lots of Japanese patrons which is always a good sign. Had the tuna and salmon sushi dinner (came with a salad. thought the ginger salad dressing was a little too creamy. definitely have had better) which was pretty fresh and tasty, as well as the phoenix roll which was incredibly good. If you aren't one for wasabi though, be sure to pass on the phoenix, as it is covered in a wasabi sauce. I found everything to be priced about a dollar more than most Japanese places of the same caliber. Would like to go back and try something other than the sushi. read more

I love this place! Everyone is always so nice and professional. And the best part is that the food is great! Sushi is made fresh and flavorful. Try the Miso Eggplant, and Hurricane Rolls. The grilled salmon is also pretty good. I haven't tried everything on the menu (just yet) but I have not come across a dish that I didn't like yet. For dessert have the fried cheesecake. Best dessert I've ever had in my life so far. #ORGASMIC. Point blank period. read more

Jpan - 5 different roles because we couldn't choose! - Sushi Bars Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Believe all the great reviews here, J Pan rocks. I dined in and ordered take out or delivery from J Pan many times before the pandemic and have always loved their sushi rolls and lunch specials. Both the service the food has been consistently very good. I like any of the sushi rolls with shrimp tempura in them. Miso soup comes with the lunch and dinner specials and it is really good - not too salty but very flavorful with tofu and seaweed in it. I'm looking forward to being able to dine in the restaurant again. They open at 1:00 for lunch on the weekends, but I was able to place an order starting at 12:20 on the Uber Eats app and my order was ready very quickly. Because sometimes when I get a craving for J Pan I just can't wait until they open to order! read more

I just got back from my 3rd trip to Brooklyn, undertaken exclusively to eat at Jpan. And now I'm suffering from a surfeit of phenomenal sushi. I really love Sushi. When my bf decided to go here for V -day I was every excited. The price was reasonable and the service was friendly, and the sushi was pretty good. I had a spicy shrimp and sticky crab roll, that was quite good. It was the right size, and with the "hot mayo" sauce just great. I only wish the space was a bit bigger, but its NY. So not bad. Sushi is fresh and delicious. Opted for 3 lunch specials to share and a fantastic special roll. The lunch special is great, comes with 2 rolls, a miso soup, and salad. Definitely getting your moneys worth. Ordered 2 spicy tuna rolls, shrimp tempura, california, sweet potato, and salmon roll. The fish here is very fresh, the rolls are delicious. I was actually skeptical about trying the sweet potato roll, but it was very tasty. I would recommend giving that one a try. Very satisfying meal. read more
