We were a little apprehensive based on the mixed reviews but place was packed and there was a line. We figured this was a good sign, especially on a Friday night. We were seated in 10 minutes and ordered the Marinated Beef Platter. It came with a couple sides and a small iron cast bowl of both seafood soup and egg. Soup had a nice flavorful broth. Meat was tender and fresh and service was good. Waitress was attentive and cooked the meats thoroughly. As for the ambience, it's very loud and lively. It reminded me of a bar or club and we had to shout to hear ourselves talk. But everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and we were busy eating most of the time. I have a terrible experience here last night . We made a reservation for 12 people , we have two separate table and they have very very loud disco music . When we wanted talk something we have to raise our voice . The worst thing I have experience is when they BBQ in front of you they don't tell us to seat back a little , when server turn the meat the hot juice from the pork and beef splash all over my son's chest . And they don't even apologize for that . And just walk away like noting is happening . Today when my son finishing the shower by the time he dress I notice his chest with burning mark . As you can see in the picture . They also lack of server when I try to order I couldn't find a person , and they such in a hurry when taking a order , because is first time here I want they recommend something good for our such a big family . Cons: Really subpar with regards to the number of banchan (only kimchi, a weak pasta salad, lettuce, scallion salad, and onions). The latter three I would not even really consider banchan. Service is hovering and way too intrusive. Poor table layout, with a smoke vent which blocks both sightlines and food items. Pricer than its bbq competitors in the area. My husband and I ate here tonight and it was amazing! We have been to other Korean BBQs before, but this one was by far the best! Our server, Annie was incredible, talking us through the many side dishes that came with our marinated beef platter. She made sure to make sure our side dishes were full and let us know what was in each one since we were not as familiar with some of them. She even came over and created a cute little tin foil pot for the grill when she realized I preferred my garlic hot. Had a wonderful dinner here recently. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was because I took a friend who had never been to a Korean BBQ restaurant and I assumed we would barbecue our proteins. There is a barbecue on each table and the servers prepare the meal. Not a negative, just different than what I am used to. Went last night with some friends. We seemed to be in the bottom of the priority list for our server Jason. First of all, he ignored us, engaged and served later incoming visitor across us. After he engaged he didnt write down our order, so we missing 2 dishes. One of the appetizer was finished and I asked for refill. I was thinking that will corn salad or corn with cheese , he directly said no we don't have that , we never have that and refused to mention the name of appetizer. That attitude was unrespectful and unacceptable. Time after time, our service was significantly delayed. We only received 4/6 of our servings. And to make matters worse, despite our patience at every instance he was blatantly irritated. He just had a nasty attitude towards us and made it very visible. Instead of coming around to see if our food was cooked, he would come by much later and almost interrogate us as to why we touched the meat that was clearly becoming overcooked because Jason wasnt even putting any care into our servings. We are just grateful he would eventually come around however every instance he displayed animosity. Even our check was delayed and my card and receipt did not return until we approached another worker. The night was special for us but Jason's conclusion to us was infectious of his own accords. Celebrated my daughter's birthday here for a party of 11. Steve and 1 other guy ( can't remember his name but he took care of us before and remembered us ) took extra special care of us and they were great. The food is always fresh and tastes amazing. The sides are abundant and unlimited. My daughter loves Kpop so they played songs from her favorite band. They don't serve dessert here but allowed us to bring a cake that we bought in the same compound- they even refrigerated it for us till we were ready for it. We come back to this restaurant a lot and many of the people we bring end up coming back on their own. Thanks to Jongro's great staff. We will back back very soon. read more

Went again a few days ago for lunch. This time I got galbi with soup which can be either soon doo boo (spicy tofu soup) or den jang jjigeh (korean miso soup). I chose the den jang jjigeh and my brother chose soon doo boo. My mom got jay yuk dopsol bibimbap (bibimbap with spicy pork served in a hot stone bowl). All the food was fantastic save for the soon doo boo. It was pretty lacking in flavor and tasted like any store bough soon doo boo. The galbi portions were a tad bit smaller than what I remembered them to be which made me sad. Overall, still good but wish they were a bit more consistent with portion size. I loveeee Korean BBQ, I mean how could you ever go wrong eating Korean BBQ? And Jongro is one of my new favorite places to go. I love that there's a location in flushing apart from the midtown location because sometimes it's impossible to get a table there. Yes, there might be slight downsides like they don't give you a jjigae automatically with your order of meat. However, their meat is good quality and they give you plenty of other side dishes and meat accompaniments to enjoy your meal. And if you really want it, order it! I suggest ordering the chadol dwenjang jiggae (rich soybean casserole soup with soft thin layers of beef). As the waitress pointed out, this option is the same price as the normal dwenjang jiggae but has meat in it. As for the meat, if you're a pork lover, get the samgyupsal (pork belly). It's affordable and super tasty. They grill kimchi for you on the pan as well. Together with the meat, kimchi, roasted garlic, scallion/onion mix they provide you have a foodgasm. And if you still have some room in your stomach, order the mul nengmyun (cold noodles in a cold broth). It ends your meal perfectly on a refreshing note. Plus, they have buttons for every table, that will bring the waiter/waitresses to you without you having to call out or hoping to catch their eye. :) read more

Review is mainly for service.The wait wasn't bad. 30 mins for family of 4 on a Saturday night. However, almost everything else was bad. It took at least 20 mins for someone to even acknowledge if we were ready to order. Another table was seated after us and their party was larger and they were attended to before us. 20 mins for the cuts of meat we ordered. Another 10 mins for someone to put the fire on and cook the meat. The fire was taken off prematurely, the meat was still very bloody and my kids (2 children under 4 yrs old) eat fully cooked meat. We tried calling someone over for help: that took another 5-10 mins to get someone's attention. One "waiter" mumbled something under his breath, walked away and ignored us. At the end of dinner, it took at least 15-20 mins to locate our waiter and get the check. Unacceptable! I have been to their location in Manhattan and it is such a contrast difference. The food quality surprisingly is better in the city too. They are more attentive and friendly in Manhattan. I would skip this one and try the Manhattan location if you want but I'm not too sure if I will go to this chain again. Very very very bad experience... my father in law was eating a cooked beef/galbi and then when he took a bite into it, it looked like a string was attached to the beef while he took a bite of the meat. But guess what we found that looked like a string that was attached to the meat. It looked like a parasite/worm that was on the meat that my father in law was taking a bite into. That is very nasty and disgusting because everything should be clean when you are running a restaurant. We didn't expect that to happen while we were all enjoying our food until we found that parasite/worm looking thing. The waiter says that is the vein of meat. We were like huh? So your saying a vein of the meat looks like a string type looking worm? Then the manager comes and says it's a rubber band that goes around the meat. We were like huh? That does not look like a rubber band and there were no rubber bands around the meat before it was cooked. We were all disgusted and felt like throwing up after seeing that parasite/worm. They offered us more meat, but we rejected it because we don't want more parasite/worm looking thing to come out again... they should have offered us a discount or no payment towards the food at all. Unfortunately they just charged us the whole full amount for the bill which is insane.. I just can't believe that parasite/worm looking thing came out from the meat which is nasty and disgusting. I would give this place 3.5 stars. We were greeted immediately and seated. My party and I stopped by here because the prices were good. We got 3 little side dishes (although normally I expect more) and a free little bottle of soju for our table. The bean curd stew was good, but I was a little disappointed that the waiter said the bean curd and tofu stews were with seafood (even though it's not mentioned in the menu, just has a picture). We visited Jongro around 7pm on a Saturday evening and only had to wait a couple of minutes for a table. The signs that this restaurant caters to a younger crowd are immediately obvious, from the tablet-based sign-in and text messaging for an available table, to the K-pop music playing in the restaurant, just slightly on the loud side but not overbearing. A big attraction for us is the charcoal grills. This place uses a gas-driven flame through charcoal instead of trays of charcoal like some others of this ilk. Like any other charcoal grill place, no matter how well ventilated (and this one is very well ventilated), you're going to walk out with your clothing smelling like BBQ. Leaving your stuff in front of an ionizing air cleaner for a day after may help you avoid laundry or dry cleaning. We ordered the kalbi and the spicy kalbi. The marinated kalbi was fine. The spicy kalbi was not all that spicy and while not bad, not particularly worth ordering again. The banchan was relatively limited which I think is unfortunate for a restaurant that aims to be offer food prepared in more traditional ways, but they did bring out a bowl of doenjang jigae which is one of my favorites. Service was fairly attentive and the table's call button - the hands-down best part of a Korean restaurant's service - was answered immediately. We generally enjoyed the restaurant and the food but the bathrooms are somewhat small and cramped and within two seconds of opening the door to the ladies' room my wife exclaimed with a horrified look that it was "disgusting". read more

For example Korean cold noodles under 10 dollars is good and cold and good broth so when the egg stew came it was cooking and it took a while but it is so buttery and good of I want to come here all day . Had reservations for 14 ppl at 6pm on a Sunday. It wasn't crowded when we showed up , we sat at two tables for 8 back to back. The wait staff was friendly enough but lack training when things got busy. We had to wait more than 10 minutes in between because they said kitchen was backed up. How can the kitchen be backed up when the meat is grilled at my table? The meat quality was so-so, their soy bean paste soup was really tasty. Their cold noodle with broth was great. I wasn't really impressed today and chalk it up to growing pains for the fact that they opened this past Friday. I will try again when they settled down a bit. When I call for reservations I was told that they did not have their liquor lic. but to be told that I could not bring my own did not make any sense to me. read more

Came to Jongro last night for dinner with my friends at around 9:30. I've been here for more than 10 times already and the staff here are always very attentive and nice which is the main reason why I keep coming back with my friends. Our experience yesterday was another story though. First, the staff that served us took out order and then disappeared for a long time while our meat already came and the grill was preheated for such a long time that the oil on it all dried up. When she finally came back, she start cooking the beef tongue (which is very thin) n of course it sticks to the grill since there's no oil on it anymore. The beef tongue came out to very dry n overcooked. Then she left again and someone came to change our grill. Second, we had to remind our staff that our drinks never came (3 coke and 1 Beer) , after she left for a long time she came back with 2 cokes and started helping other tables while our grill is drying up again. We had to ask another staff about our remaining coke and beer, then she brought it after awhile but she did not open the beer and left again. Long story short, we end up cooking and cutting the ribeye on our own and cancelled our remaining order (two kalbi and pork jowl). We still tipped our staff although I feel she doesn't deserve it because tip is for services and I do not see any service! We are told she's a trainee and that next time we come they will give us appetizer or drinks. I do understand that if she's still a trainee she will make some mistakes but she's not even apologetic at all and I don't think any customers deserves this type of customer service and have to pay for the price. Although another staff apologize and told us we can come back next time and we provide us appetizers, I do not feel happy about it. If you want to make things right, maybe try to make it right when the customers are still there and not the next time they come back (how do you know we still want to come back?). read more
