Good food and service. Parking can be problematic on Sundays. It's one of those little mom and pop spots that serves food like Chicken Fried Steak grandma made. The pancakes are a must. Ambiance is comforting and reminds me of younger days. read more

We've been to Jonathons a few times. First time at this location. Not too busy for Memorial Day, 11:55 am. Got seated quickly, first table on the left when you walk in. Waited a while for the waiter. He dropped off waters and didn't even ask if we wanted anything else to drink. Shoot, he didn't even give us an option he left so quick. There was 3 tables in our section, all of them empty except ours. He comes back a few minutes later to see if we're ready to order. We got 2 orders of chicken and waffles and my daughter got the chicken biscuit with gravy. I had to stop him before he left so my wife could order coffee. After we ordered, a family and a couple sat at the other 2 tables in our section. 30 minutes later or so our waiter shows back up with ketchup, tobasco and syrup, says the food will be out in 2 minutes, that we ordered after a large party of 15, that was what was taking a while for our food. Totally understandable The family in our section that came in after we ordered gets their food. I saw they ordered chicken and waffles as well. We're like, we got skipped. It happens right, whatever. Then the couple in our section in the third table gets their food as well. We ordered our food 20 minutes before they even arrived. I stop the waiter and let him know that we've been waiting close to an hour (it's 12:45), he tells me no you haven't! I ask for the manager who was also the hostess i guess. I let her know what has happened. She tells us she's gonna find out what the issue is. Finally our food arrives......the waffles were cold and soggy. The rest of the food was good. Chicken biscuit was really good. Half way through our meal the manager/hostess tells us she doesn't know what happened, maybe a mix up or a lost food ticket. I don't think she gave a flying f%€k to tell you the truth. She sat at the bar with a someone she knew and was having a great ole time. Check came and not a single apology about our experience was expressed by the waiter or manager/hostess. Oh and get this, when we stood up to leave, there was no party of 15 to be found. Yes the tables were full, but no one was together obviously. Terrible service by the waiter and manager/hostess. Customer service is non existent. My left foot has a better personality than the waiter. read more

If you don't want to see people enter an establishment with an outside coffee/Latte...please make it known before said customer seats and begins to order. I do understand rules are rules but the lady/waitress who advised us that we couldn't have drinks inside was rude and loud and that's flat out tacky. Do better! Thank Goodness they moved locations! The parking on Monday afternoon (MLK) was great. It much more spacious so I didnt feel crowded at all. Food is still good, the popular mimosas suggested by the waitress, bomb!!! Cleanliness: excellent, Service was FAST without compromising the quality or visual appeal of the food. Hadn't been here in years, but thankfully everything was still as pleasant as before. The food has always been a hit, never a complaint. I had the regular breakfast with a waffle and over easy eggs. They have the absolute best waffles! They are so fluffy and the flavor is like cake. I also had bacon and grits. The bacon was cooked to perfection. The grits were good but very thick, like stick to the fork thick. But they were good nonetheless. Staff was very attentive and we didn't even have to ask for refills, she made sure she checked on us frequently. I had been to the OG location ( up the street) a few times and decide to skip the crowds and give the diner a try. Well I thought I was skipping the crowds, I assume anything in Bishop Arts associated with Jonathons is always busy on the weekends because this place was hopping. So I decided to sit at the bar to speed things up a bit! I order the Eggs, Potatoes and waffle with strawberries & cream. My waffle was dry & cold which was really disappointing because the first time I tired the OG location my waffle was perfect. The eggs however were cooked perfectly, super tasty! Even though the place was slammed the customer service was great and they made sure to regularly check on me. I should have sent the waffle back but I was way to hungry.. of course I'll be back again bc Jonathan's is a staple in this community. read more

I wanted to like this location. I really did. It was my second time here but they just can't get it together. Here goes.... The first time we came was during St. Patrick's Day weekend. So understandably so, the e tire world of Dallas was busy... and it was a beautiful day. The first Jonathan's location was packed, so we settled on the second location. The wait was long, a lot of the staff called in and we get a waiter that was too honest and too comfortable with his job. The honesty part I appreciated but we were seated by his back wall computer. So he's back there running bills and receipts. He then turns to use our table for sorting checks/ bills in various bill books for other tables. He sits at our table to tell us about the fact that they're short staffed. It's a personal pet peeve of mine for a waiter to sit at our table but I'm willing to get past it. It's another thing all together to use our table as his personal work station. That's like going to someone's house, sitting on their couch and clipping your toe nails like it's no big deal. The food was somewhat burned and I didn't enjoy it... understandably, it was a big weekend. ON TO THE SECOND VISIT. The wait was long at the first location so we're back at the second location... JOY! The wait isn't as bad but then we get "RANDY". Yes, I'm calling out his name. We get seated after another black family... seated next to us. The next table to be seated is a white family.. across from us. A few minutes later, a white couple a few tables down. (REMEMBER SEATING THE ORDER... we we're seated second) Randy (white waiter) takes everyone's food orders in the correct order. His demeanor is dry and you can tell he's busy. After taking our order, he turns to the white family to take their order (third). They order "danger dogs" as an appetizer. Now everyone waits. Guess who gets food first.... The first white family (third to place an order) gets the wrong appetizer and it's "on the house" another white waiter around Randy's baby boomer age) walks up to them to have a friendly conversation after they finish the appetizer. He also clears their plate from the table. Around this time, white couple (fourth to order) gets their food! Black family (first seated/ first to order) is looking just as confused as we are. Finally, black family (first seated and first to order) gets their food, then us (second seated/ 2nd to order) and the white family (third seated & to order) gets the rest of their food last. Randy constantly makes pleasant conversation with the white family across from us. We don't get the same treatment. All food orders were correct, with the exception of someone from the black family table (first seated/ first to order), whose pancakes came very very verrry late. Needless to say, I've seen enough at this place. I'm not accusing anyone of racism.... well, I guess I am. Yeah... I am. This was blatantly obvious. Even with bad service, I try to leave a tip after giving the benefit of the doubt. In this case, I didn't. I can't say that I'll be back any time soon. Very disappointed in my visit today and will not be back. My mother ordered the breakfast enchiladas and they came out so quick and cold. When they brought out the new food it was hot....but raw. I wanted to order the chicken and biscuit with the gravy on the side however I was told they were not able to make that happen cause no modifications could be made to the dish..........like really? You can't put the gravy on the side? Very rude staff and management. read more

my husband just went to Jonathan's this morning and had horrible experience . Once he sat at the bar , the bartender never tended to ask if he needed anything .Once finally serviced , he received a drink with a bug in it . as he asked for another drink , the bartender had an attitude rather than being nice , apologizing and politely providing another drink . Lastly , I'm not sure if they were a manger or someone else of the sort accused my husband of bringing outside drinks into the restaurant which was NOT his that the bartender confirmed it wasn't his , and they did not apologize to him . There was HORRIBLE customer service . If this is the service provided at this restaurant I hope nobody else comes because no customer should be treated like that . First time I went on a Saturday for brunch. I heard so much about their bomb food I thought I'd give it a try. Let me just get to the point...I brunched here the following day (again) and brought my parents because I wanted them to try deliciousness at its finest. So many good breakfast choices, friendly service and no wait! The booths are a key to building a comfortable atmosphere. There's basically so many more booths than tables - which I think people really like. Let me get to the best part - the FOOD. Favorite food choices: 1. Dad's Benedict (A MUST) 2. PB&J Waffle - for you sweet lovers, comes with lots of berries! 3. Oatmeal 4. Huevos Juanitos (my mom is really picky and she loved them!) 5. Fried Steak and eggs (huge portions - for you meat lovers!) Also, tried their Cubano Expresso (cute little strong shot) to start the morning - plus, their regular hot coffee was good. This is the type of place you can enjoy coming to on a weekly basis with your family or friends. Serving are huge, prices are affordable, service is great. They also have TVs throughout the restaurant in case you're trying to catch a game. Parking can get pretty crowded for a busy morning. read more

This diner has the potential to be amazing! The chicken and waffles had great flavor and was probably off the chart delicious when it's hot, however mine was not even barely warm. The butter did not melt on the waffle when spread. The peppered gravy is tasty although very peppery, the name is not misleading. I would have said something, however our waitress and other staff spent more time on their phones than checking on customers. Don't get me wrong, our waitress was very nice, but did not seem to have enthusiasm for her job. Most of the staff spent a large amount of time around the bar chatting, sitting down, and as mentioned, on their phones. Even the nice woman at the door, who I suspect is the owner, was sitting at the bar. As for the ambience, it's great, it's a diner. However, the condensation dripping from the overhead duct work seems like it's probably a health hazard. I gave 3 stars because flavor was very good and the staff were all nice when they peeled themselves away from socializing and checking their phones to interact. read more

We stopped here by mistake. We were headed to Jonathan's of oak cliff. I turned in here because I saw it first while following gps. No worries- like they say- both places have menu. So instead of Jonathon's Diner- it should be called Back up by Jonathan or Jonathon's of oak cliff II. We had the Danger Dogs, Fried Chicken & Waffle and breakfast plate. Everything was so good! With a party of 7, we first went to original location down the street where they advised us to go head to Jonathons Diner down the street since its a bit bigger and we would likely be more comfortable. The wait was 25 minutes but I must say it was worth the wait, our server (Jacobey) I believe was great and very attentive and the food was definitely worth the wait. The staff was very down to earth and you just feel at home when your in here, we were pleasantly surprised and it was an amazing way to end our weekend trip in Dallas. read more

When I got to my office to try and eat the bread was totally burnt and the burger was sooo salty. Drinks are ok but the food and service is horrible. Disappointing experience. I can't comment on the food here because we never actually got to eat. My party arrived and was told there was a 30 minute wait; not bad for a Saturday and we were willing to wait! About 45 minutes to an hour later we finally get seated. Before our waitress can even bring us water, she informs us that the kitchen is "very backed up" so it would take "at the very least an hour or hour and a half" for our food to come out. Isn't that an important piece of information that the hostess should have mentioned before we waited an hour for a table? We would've never waited for a table had we known this would've been a 3 hour affair. When we told the waitress she should let the hostess know so she can inform all the waiting customers, she told us the hostess knew and that she was, and I quote, "telling some people but not others". Interesting. We were really excited to try this diner and were more than willing to understand a lengthy wait. However, blatantly not informing customers of the understaffed kitchen and extra long wait for food is inexcusable. read more

Great place good food great staff. Place can get super crowded so be sure to come early for a better experience it gets pretty hectic but for a darn reason! My go to here is the "Dads Benedict" great portion excellent prices with oh so good tasting flavors. Oh and did I mention they are very generous? So awesome. What's even more great is seeing the awesome staff especially the owners hard at making it so good at Jonathan's we appreciate you so much and will do our part to support this South Dallas staple. I loved the original Jonathon's location, so I was excited to try this one. We woke up early and decided to grab breakfast out! The breakfast enthusiasm had us arriving early and waiting for 5 minutes in the parking lot. They opened the doors exactly on time and we were the only table in the restaurant for a few minutes. The menu was not nearly as exciting as the original location but it had a decent selection of classic breakfast items. My partner's meal was surprisingly and unwantedly sweet. But she kept eating her other items. The waiter was helpful and attentive throughout the whole meal. What really killed the meal, though, was when a staffer started spreading the empty table next to us with bleach. Why would you need to spray an empty table with bleach minutes after your restaurant opened? Shouldn't that have been done at the end of the night or before you open when no one was eating right next to the table? It was all we could smell and taste and we ended up leaving as fast as possible, with our mostly uneaten meals in to go boxes. A disappointing experience to say the least. 3 stars only because our waiter was awesome. read more
