When we arrived there were several empty tables waiting to be bused, 1 hostess who told us 15-20 mins. for a party of 4 and 1 waiter. I went back to the car which was parked at the door where we could see. Shortly after being seated the only waiter mouthed across the aisles while delivering food to a table that he'd be with us shortly. Once he got to our table he greeted us and said his name was Joe, he was mild mannered and not frustrated which I would've been. ‍ I asked him if he was the only server and he said yes right now. This was our 2nd time at this location. Went once to their Mansfield location and quite a few times to their Express ghost kitchen in Dallas before they closed which was the closest to us driving from McKinney. Regarding the food; It was my first time ordering Catfish, I've ordered the chicken all other times and it was always good, tasted the chicken this day and it was delicious. As far as the Catfish, the 2 pcs were smaller than I expected, flavored good but not crispy at all; I had to take it home and air fry it so I probably wouldn't order that again. The grits were good and I sub'd out the toast for a pancake which have always been good when I've ordered them especially with the crispy edges but this pancake was dry no moistness whatsoever; my sisters said hers were good. Just wasn't worth the drive this time so it'll be quite a while before we drive this distance again for breakfast. read more

We dined here for a late lunch/brunch with a cousin visiting from St. Louis on Friday, 8/28/26. I had seen reviews about the extra long wait. In our case, we only had to wait to be seated about 15-20 minutes = was around 12:30p. The food was absolutely SCRUMPTIOUS! I had the Catfish Fried Rice (FANTASTIC). My husband had the Chicken and Waffles and didn't realize he was ordering "fried" waffles, until I wrote this review and noticed that in the menu description. My cousin had the French Toast Plate. My Mango Lemonade was so good! It's hard to find good "homemade" lemonade. I may try the Peach Lemonade next time! Ava was a great server! We prefer drinks and then food. The orange mimosa was fresh and light and just the perfect start of Saturday breakfast with family. I ordered the salmon bites for the first time after several recommendations from a pescatarian and they did not disappoint! The eggs were light scrambled as requested and creamy. The sauce for the salmon bites had a slight kick and more than anything was sweet. The service was pretty good. We did need to request water and silverware more than once to eat. So I joined it because it was going to take us almost an hour to get there. When we arrived at almost 60 min later, I checked in with front desk person, and went to wait in car. I dropped into this spot this morning randomly after looking on a map to see what was close to me. I was pleasantly surprised. Everything inside is super cute and this is a soul food spot for sure. My server was friendly and attentive. Sometimes when you're a solo eater you get shoved in a corner and ignored but that was not the case here. I ended up ordering the red velvet waffles with fried catfish. I'm not a huge waffle fan but i saw red velvet and i had to. I doing eat much cat fish but i just wanted to swing for the fence with things i don't normally go for. The waffle was soft and fluffy. The squeeze of lemon was perfect and i didnt need butter or syrup. I wish it had more sliced strawberries on it- it only came with half a strawberry in the middle. The cat fish was hot, fresh and seasoned well. I topped it with Louisiana hot sauce that they had sitting on the side of the table ready for use. It was allll delish.
