It set the perfect tone for the whole meal. For food, I ordered both the chicken and waffles and the gumbo. Let me be direct: the chicken and waffles are an absolute must -- I would come back for that dish alone. The gumbo was decent, though not quite at the same level. If I had to choose, I'd skip it and double down on the chicken and waffles without hesitation. What really made the experience stand out was our waitress Aisha. Our server , Johnny, was very pleasant and attentive but service was very slow and it was not a packed night. I ordered the 9th ward oysters and 4 lemon pepper hot wings to eat. The oyster were sub par and lacked a lot of seasoning and overall flavor, but the oysters steamed fresh and not fishy. The wings were cooked well and very sauced & spicy, a higher spec level than I wanted but they were tasty they could have been served warmer. I asked for blue cheese- they did not have any blue cheese which I was bummed about. The food was all sub par and very over priced for the items themselves and the quality. But the service was horrible. We sat at the bar and ordered food and drinks. Somehow, people that sat down after us (and had appetizers just like we did, including a party of seven) were served before us. They ate and left before we even received our entrees. It took over 2 hours to receive our food. When we asked the server about the status of our food, she had a terrible demeanor and simply said sometimes our food takes time. If they can figure out how to serve food and drinks faster, this would be a much better place. But for now, I'm never coming and I wouldn't rate this any better than a 1 star restaurant. read more

The catfish and grits was overpriced and lacking flavor the sauce on the grits needed more seasoning the catfish itself was good though. The bowl by itself was so good and packed with flavor I wouldn't change a thing! The grits was so creamy, not a lump in sight! It was very delicious! The fish was crispy and tasty! I would get either meal again! But if I had to choose I think I would choose the salmon bowl. The cons: all of which is on the website, reading is fundamental! With all of the construction, you could easily miss the entrance. It's located up a ramp way and parking is limited. For that reason, I'm told there's a $15 charge for valet on the weekends. The esthetics on the inside are just as comparable. There's a huge bar, upstairs and downstairs. Both the hostess and waiter were pleasant. I ordered the Cajun pasta with shrimp at her recommendation. My BFF ordered the fish and shrimp combo. We decided on the crawfish boudin egg rolls. They were great. The drink took a while to come and was almost luke warm. The food was just okay. The cups for water seemed to be a dirty so I requested another one. Came for brunch on Sunday. Food was worth the wait and the ordeal to get in. We really didn't know that the place was so hype. We were invited by a friend to catch up. Upon arrival, be prepared that only valet parking. Parking situation is not ideal and there is no option for self parking. If you like, can park on the street and then hike up a very large hill. I would recommend against this as the hill is steep & narrow. Walking the hill is not safe for people to be walking up with cars coming up and down. Once you valet for $15, then you can get on a list for a table. Wait was expected at 45 minutes for table but ended up being only a 30 minute wait. Atmosphere is nice. Music was loud and everyone was having a good time. Lots of mimosa towers and specialty drinks roaming around the restaurant. On to the food. 5 out of 5 stars. I was impressed with my catfish and shrimp. My husband enjoyed his gumbo. We also tried the wings and they were fire. Our server Aisha was very pleasant and attentive. I've come here twice, once 90 minutes before closing and the other 5 minutes after opening . We were taken care of wonderfully each time, it's never loud or with long waits. I was informed by friends they also have an upstairs. The patio could use a design makeover. The bathrooms were filthy and needed tending to. Parking is $15 during brunch time. I ended up being charged $16.84. Food: My breakfast scramble came out cold so I went with the gumbo instead. The gumbo and fried pickles were good and had a kick. The waffle was cold and the sauce for the chicken was forgotten. The eggs were brought out and look like they were in an oil spill. So much oil was used, part of the egg slid off the plate. My friend asked for the manager. We waited 15-20 minutes and the manager never came to offer an apology or see what was wrong. The best part of this was the hostess and waiter.
