My oxtails over rice had good flavor and (of course) fell off the bone. The collards were cooked well and seasoned well (just wish there was more). Black eyed peas were good (I like mine a little smoky). My wife enjoyed the 6 shrimp and fries and said her Daiquiri hit the spot. Welp, wanted to try this place for the 1st time and I called to make an order and was told I had to order online. Tried that but most of the items I wanted were out of stock. Greens, Cabbage, mac and cheese. I wanted the ox tails and try the whole catfish along with the jerk wings. Guess that won't be happening. I kept trying to call back and they sent me to vm. Omg this place was poppin, the vibe was great they were playing oldie skool R&B. The customer service was good. Some young ppl working and vibin with each other. I got the oxtails plate and Omm that Shit was cracking excuse my language. They gave me enough for two ppl and my boyfriend enjoyed it too. The Mac was cracking. The yams were good just a little too sweet for my liking. Next time I want to get the greens. The rice it was over was cracking it definitely was giving dirty rice. It's a smaller venue and not too many seats. The menu is on the smaller side, we wanted oxtails and fried catfish. When we went to order we were told that they were out of oxtails and whole fried fish, hubby was disappointed and wanted to leave lowkey, but we still stayed. The oxtails were on point too! We got there at 1 PM on Sunday and was able to get the mac & cheese and greens. It seemed like by around 2 PM, I heard them telling folks they were out of mac & cheese and greens, they also were out of when wings which they offered is the 6 wing drummettes instead. I'm not sure what was going on with that, but we're glad we got the portions we wanted. The customer service was really good. No complaints there. Many restaurants serving similar staples often have the WORST customer service and sub par food. This establishment is ocd spotless & the prices are market. So I got the 2 piece catfish it came with fries, pickles, peppers, the fries although very crispy were cold. The catfish was hot fresh and real catfish not enough pickles or peppers. I also got a side of candied yams and greens. Yams were good big chucks of yams and the greens although they seem to be well cook nice amount of meat were so salty I couldn't finished them. I got hot water cornbread which I'm not really a fan of anyway but it was sweet but very hard. The wait was pretty long, only I had read other reviews that mentioned long wait times , so I had came prepared to wait. Which is around the price you'd pay for small pack with no sides at the local grocery store. The customer service was amazing . Very friendly and helpful drive thru. They were all out of peach cobbler so the kind lady with blond hair gave other suggestions. It was even raining a little and they were nicely with calmly bringing orders to the cars . Couldn't be my dramatic self because I'd be running and throwing all the orders in the car trying to avoid getting my hair wet lol !! Anyways , the food was nothing to brag about honestly. Greens were basic and very much bland probably needing some accent salt and vinegar, the black eye peas were tasteless and had green beans and bell peppers in them which I found to be weird, Mac and cheese was decent but nothing to cause commotion over and the oxtails were so bland. They were tender but didn't really have that southern touch too it . Honestly it wasn't nasty at all , but its not something worth not cooking at home and spending money for. My daughter got the bbq wings and fries which she stated that the wings were "bussin" (means good in the hip world lol) . I passed by this place a few times when my job has me working at the Red Bird Mall and each time I wanted to stop but they do not have late hours and I am usually leaving work late. Since I was in the area on a Sunday morning, I decided to wait until this restaurant opened and be the first in line. I guess others had the same idea because there were several people in the parking lot before the restaurant opened to be the first in line for the lobby and the drive-thru. This was a tell-tell sign that this place is GOOD! I stood in line outside until the doors opened at 12noon and walked in. The employees greeted us and started taking orders immediately. There was great music playing on the inside. The young man that took my order was extremely polite and informed me that there were no desserts available for that day. I was a bit disappointed because I wanted to try their East Texas Pecan Cobbler but I decided to try a Coconut Runner daiquiri instead (the daiquiri was REALLY GOOD and you could taste the alcohol, which is always good)! I also ordered the 2pc Catfish Combo with a side of Mac n' Cheese. EVERYTHING was seasoned through and through and great portion size for the price I paid. The Mac n' Cheese was DELICIOUS and SO CHEESY AND CREAMY! I will be coming back, again, soon so that I can try the other entrees that this place has to offer (and hopefully I will be able to try their desserts too). read more
