    Terrine and Caponata toast
    Ed L.

Came here late on a Friday after a book event at the Wild Detective next door because we noticed the kitchen is open until midnight. The food here is surprisingly good! I loved the terrine w rabbit and pork cheek, and the applesauce and mustard accompaniment paired really well. The caponata toast was amazing - the eggplant, tomatoes, burrata, capers and several herbs were well seasoned and there were so many complementary flavors in every bite. The cheesecake is excellent as well. Ambience is terrific with a good jazz soundtrack in the background and nice lighting. And the service is fantastic, as well. River was the bartender and she was also our server. When my wife was waffling on what wine to go with, she brought out three recommendations and we went with a very nice Mexican Cabernet . Little Blue is a great laid back place for a light meal and drinks - highly recommend!

Such a cute, little wine bar in Bishop Arts. The setting is intimate, with a few tables inside and out; I'd say it's most suitable for parties of 4 or less. The server suggested an excellent wine pairing based on our preference and the dishes we ordered. The dishes are tapa style, great for sharing. Highlights include: blue prawns, marsala and pot roast. The prawns were really substantial, dipped in an awesome, hearty broth. Must dip bread in said broth. The marsala was coated in a delicious, creamy sauce, flavored perfectly. The pot roast came with a side of fluffy mashed potatoes that really surprised me. Overall a great meal, we'd recommend!

This is a really small and cozy spot! I took my mom to dinner and wanted to try something new with her. It was so amazing and the service was wonderful. Everything tasted very intentional and well balanced in flavor. I love that beautiful restaurants and cuisines like this exist in my neighborhood. I can't wait to come back. Also I love that all the wines are carefully selected.

Ambiance: 5/5 Food and drinks: 4/5 Walking arond Bishop arts on Friday and stumbled upon this cute shop. I love the concept of setting up business in a repurposed home - there's so much character in a space. The inside was dimly lit with lights and small candles on the table. Server was swift and attentive. They have a variety of French inspired small dishes and chicken/pasta/ pot roast on the menu. We ordered a bit of everything - the terrine and escargot were quite good. Escargot needs a bit of salt - which is the trend for their dishes. Pot roast and Bolognese are tasty, albeit needing salt. I'm not a salty eater but that extra salt is needed to achieve the umami that they are missing. They have an all natural wine menu, cocktail and beer. Ambiance was chill and romantic, we all got a bit tipsy afterwards. Overall nice spot!

Very small, quaint restaurant in an old house with dark ambiance and good wine deals. My number one favorite cheesecake I've had in dallas is right here! Some of the dishes aren't as expected and the menu changes frequently but the pasta is a go to and the pot roast is a must if you do need recommendations! I'd vote the stracc, pot roast and bolognese as my favorite dishes on the menu when I was there. Didn't love the terrine; it's more of a meat/cheese board app with cold rabbit topping. The salad was small and didn't rock my word either. I did like the stew a lot! Get a reservation here or come early and sit at the bar for some tasty wine and cheesecake!

Intimate little bistro set inside a house in Bishop Arts. They have a great wine and cocktail selection. The bread and butter is a necessity and the pot roast is insanely good.

Walked past this place one night and it looked so cute, booked a reservation the next week!!! Did not disappoint! The patio was so perfect, giving suchhhh good vibes. Wine and service were lovely. Moving on to food.... every dish hit. The Caesar salad was very authentic and light, homemade croutons on top. The Bolognese was wonderful, the sauce was super flavorful. The pot roast was savory, but still light enough to eat in the summer, highly recommend. The Italian cheesecake is now one of my favorite desserts in Dallas.... the words I would use to describe it would not do it justice... just go try it. Cannot wait to go back!!

Food was fine. The red headed server was extremely rude and treated my wife like an out of control child when she accidentally spilled a small vase on the table because the tables were uneven. The server rudely took the vase out of her hands and reprimanded her like a child saying "no no no". Everyone at the table was shocked. She then cut off my wife (who had had 1.5 glasses of white wine with a full meal). She wasn't drunk. She wasn't even clumsy or loud. She spilled because the table was uneven. I'm not sure if this server was having a bad night or what her deal was, but she CERTAINLY took it out on us and was EXTREMELY condescending when we attempted to apologize and explain what had happened. For the money we spent, I don't expect the staff to snatch things out of your hands or scold you. Wont be back.

Dining at Little Blue is like walking into an Edith Piaf song. The menu is delicious, rich and features an excellent natural wine list. The service is excellent and the cocktails are especially good, made with flavorful and interesting ingredients. The space is small and intimate, creating an ambience that is the perfect blend of low lighting, soft colors, wood floors, and white tablecloths. What more can I say, Little Blue Bistro is a gem and you should dine here! (Try the pot roast)

It had just started to rain when we arrived, so we sat inside - although their outside seating looked lovely. Ampelos is a bottle shop that sells a few select wines by the glass (maybe 8-10 options?). We tried a few wines they had by the glass (at least 3 different wines). They focus on natural wines, so I would have tried anything they offered! But they had a Southold wine that I knew I wanted (Southold is a Texas winery that closed up shop and moved to France, so they'll be running out of wine produced from their Texas grapes soon). We also grabbed a bottle that I gifted to my Dad later that evening. They offer a few small snacks (like olives) and flights on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The space is small, but cool (although it being on the darker side with neon lights for decor did make it look closed from the outside on a rainy day), and the service was great. I would definitely return. Ampelos is a place I would frequent if I still lived in Dallas!

She said, "I'll get it out for you," and took it back. Removed the fly and handed it glass back to me! Didn't offer to give me a new glass or anything! As we were leaving, I took the glass in still filled with wine and she remarked, "Oh, you didn't want to finish it?" I said, "No. That would be gross."

The atmosphere is welcoming and relaxed, making it an easy place to settle in and actually enjoy the experience rather than feeling rushed through a tasting. We tried a wine tasting and were pleasantly surprised by how much we enjoyed it. The Texas Tempranillo stood out with its depth and character, and the Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon was a clear favorite--bold, smooth, and well-balanced. I've also heard that Barons Creek hosts themed events, which adds another layer of appeal. The idea of pairing their wines with a fun or seasonal theme sounds like a great way to experience the tasting room. Beyond a standard visit, and I'm definitely looking forward to attending one of those events in the future. We tried a few bites - the patatas bravas, which are thinly fried potato chunks lightly dusted with paprika and topped with garlic aioli. It sounds simple, but was ridiculously addictive, and we found ourselves ordering another serving that night! We also tried the steak, which was perfectly cooked to our desired temperature (medium rare), but was otherwise pretty simply prepared, served atop steak sauce. And we also tried the burrata which came as two small pieces of toasted bread, juicy burrata and charred broccoli (also a simple but satisfying dish). All of the dishes are pretty small, so you would probably need to order at least a handful for a couple to feel pretty satiated, but that makes it fun to try more wine at the same time ;) We were curious about the pork belly, which the owner proclaimed to another guest that night to be "her favorite item on the menu." We can't wait to try that on our return visit (with another order or two of the patatas bravas, and maybe the tostadas too!). Definite recommend for a cute date night off the beaten path!

First of all, the Bishop Arts District itself is incredibly charming. Block after block of unique shops ranging from bookstores and bakeries to candle shops, candy stores, coffee spots, and little boutiques. It's exactly the kind of neighborhood I loveeeee exploring while traveling and if I lived in Dallas, I'd probably frequent this area often. As for The Wild Detectives, the concept alone immediately appealed to me...bookstore meets cafe meets bar meets restaurant. That combination will pretty much always grab my attention. I love to read, I love to eat. The space has a pretty relaxed, community oriented vibe, and during my Saturday morning/early afternoon visit, there were plenty of people working, reading, chatting, and hanging out both inside and on the patio. My one slight disappointment was that the bookstore side itself was smaller than I expected and didn't have quite as extensive a selection as I had imagined. That said, I still managed to leave with a few great additions for my ever growing TBR pile. Overall, this was a worthwhile stop and one I may revisit the next time I'm in Dallas.

I will say when i arrived i was a bit annoyed. It was my first time there and when i said i was there for trivia i was told i could sit at the bar and would have to wait for my whole party to arrive. When my party arrived (regulars) they seemed to think that was crazy so maybe that policy depends on who you are. When i sat down at the bar i was ignored. I had to ask someone for a menu and i was directed to a QR code and then as far as ordering i was sitting there waiting for someone to notice me again for several minutes. Again, they weren't super busy. I finally was able to order and a few minutes later my friend showed up and we sat at our table. I ended up with a mexican coke, elote and avocado tostadas. The food was decent. Not exceptional. I wish the tostada had chunks of avocado instead, it was a thin later on the bottom. The elote was good. Maybe i just didn't order the right thing. My friends love the place and it appears to be a neighborhood staple. I will come back again with them and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with this review. Hopefully next time will be better.
