Ive heard great things about this spot for a while and finally made it last night. I did also get a chance to try try their offering at the recent Dallas arboretum food and wine festival. Its a cute spot on the edge of bishop arts. There is a paid parking lot next door although they appear to do parking validation which i didn't know until id already paid. They were hosting trivia night doing a fundraiser with WISE which is why i showed up. There was complimentary prosecco with donations and overall it was a fun night. I will say when i arrived i was a bit annoyed. It was my first time there and when i said i was there for trivia i was told i could sit at the bar and would have to wait for my whole party to arrive. When my party arrived (regulars) they seemed to think that was crazy so maybe that policy depends on who you are. When i sat down at the bar i was ignored. I had to ask someone for a menu and i was directed to a QR code and then as far as ordering i was sitting there waiting for someone to notice me again for several minutes. Again, they weren't super busy. I finally was able to order and a few minutes later my friend showed up and we sat at our table. I ended up with a mexican coke, elote and avocado tostadas. The food was decent. Not exceptional. I wish the tostada had chunks of avocado instead, it was a thin later on the bottom. The elote was good. Maybe i just didn't order the right thing. My friends love the place and it appears to be a neighborhood staple. I will come back again with them and I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt with this review. Went on a Saturday afternoon, there was hardly anyone there. I started off with Presseco and the Tuna Tostada which was really good. I was able to try the seafood stuff jalapeno which was also really good. I also ordered 3 tacos which I wasn't a big fan of. I ordered the fried avocado taco and 2 shrimp tempura tacos. I feel like the shrimp were overly battered which took away from the shrimp being in the taco. The mini tamales were ok, not our favorite. We really enjoyed our night here! Steven was fabulous and took excellent care of us. The food was elevated yet still reminded us of homemade family recipes. (Even though Cassandra definitely started our glasses out heavy on the bubbles lol) We started out with the jalapeno artichoke dip served with totopos (thick tortilla chips) - creamy and loved it. Then we had the pancake breakfast taco served as a set of 2 and only available on the weekends (removed the bacon) - also loved it! I didn't realize my friend was ordering the breakfast taco for us to share so between the dip, bubbles and pancake taco, I started filling up. I had ordered the quesobirria as my main entree and, you guessed it, loved it! Great flavor. Everything was served fresh. I was long overdue for some elotes so that was my side. Really enjoyed my first visit at Taco y Vino! Nestled in the beautiful Bishop Arts neighborhood, the wine bar gave me warm vibes the second we walked in. The dining area/bar is tight. As we sat, our waiter, Jonathan, came over to help us. We ordered our drink, which was only $1.01. We got a prickly pear margarita. It was a little sweet, but it was still good. We also choose to get some tacos. You get $3 for $13, which was a good deal. We got a fried avocado taco that we split, I got the fish taco, and she got a brisket taco. They were all good and all flavored well. They have multiple options, so we will definitely come back to try more options. The only reason I gave 4 stars is because probably about 10 minutes after being there, folks started going out to the back patio even though the front porch was not full. Also parking was very limited if you don't want to pay but fortunately we found free street parking. Jonathan came back to check on us multiple times and made some wonderful recommendations to make sure we enjoyed our meal. In summary: Very unaccommodating and non-inclusive to any hard of hearing people. I like taco y vino normally, but was really disappointed in the customer service. Went in for dinner and the music was blasting-- I myself couldn't hear the people talking to me... but I was also with my 70 year old parents who have hearing aids. I politely asked if they would mind turning the music down a little, and the waiter said no. I explained why (if you're curious why, see note at the bottom). We ended up having to leave. We weren't asking to turn the music off, just turn the volume down a little. Very unaccommodating and non-inclusive to any hard of hearing people. As someone who has worked in customer service... This is all in a converted 2 bed 1 bath house that's been converted into a taco and wine restaurant. I loved my day here. First off, daily brunch special is wonderful. Came here on a Friday with a friend who was in from out of town and had brunch at 2 pm. As she is very picky about the meat being lean, she hoped for at least one good taco, but was pleasantly surprised that all 3 were lean, flavorful and gone quickly! She loved them!! My birria, was a core memory moment. The flavor of these tacos were unreal! Even days later as I write this, I am still thinking about those birria tacos. Flat out amazing! The cooks they have in the kitchen are flat out making magic behind the scenes. ...oh it's not over. The churros. When I say these little sweet delights were amazing, i don't feel like i am doing them any justice! I've had fresh churros before, but finishing our meal with these little pieces of pure delight, had both of us nearly fighting for the last one! Overall, pretty good, the taco trays were good. I got the ahi tuna, tempura shrimp, and the brisket taco which was flavorful. All of them were good but not the biggest. I had their house red wine and a wine cocktail. I wasn't too much of a fan of the wine cocktail. It was a little too bubbly for me and too sweet. They also had sweet and subtle guitarist playing for the night. My advice is to get there early if you have a big party, the indoor area is not that large, but I think they have outdoor seating in the back, if you don't mind not hearing the music. It's located right before you get really far into bishop arts perfect location with a lot to park beside it. It's not very big inside but lots of character. I really enjoyed our waiter he was super nice and talkative and even told me about the drink specials. Can't beat a $5 glass of rose'. I order the ceviche for an appetizer and it was really good. Lots of shrimp with plenty of chips for it. For my meal I got three tacos. My waiter suggested I try the double decker for one of them and trust me he needed a tip just for that recommendation.
