We live around the corner. Next time I'll promise to take pictures. But this place is pretty solid if you like SPiCY Mexican food. Their burritos are well made but any type of salsa on it would be too spicy. And I love eating my Mexican food with salsa. It's a small place with seating inside. Honestly if you live in the area and can walk over for some Mexican I would recommend it at least once. I'm giving it three stars because I have been here twice. I've eaten here 3x. My coworker LOVES it, I am on the fence. Bean and cheese burrito is BIG, and flavorful.... but tastes really "meaty" like the beans are made with a lot of lard or something. I don't hate it, but it's not my favorite. The beans are whole beans not smashed/refried which is different to me, one occasion they were ok.... 2nd time ordering they were undercooked. Cabeza Tacos: cabeza is my favorite, but not from here. It has a sweet flavor that I an not a fan of. Potato Taquitos: also have a "meaty" flavor that i am not a fan of. Service is awesome! And the green sauce is delicious, and I normally go for red but not here. Overall: I'm not a huge fan, but my coworker loves their food. I recommend trying it. read more

I love me a good bean and cheese burrito. I have seen several people talk about the one here on a local Facebook page. I finally got around to going. The guy who took my order was nice. It cost $6.75 cash and came with a side of tortilla chips. The chips were crunchy, salty and delicious. The burrito was great. The high light was the soft tortilla and the "grilled" on cheese on arty of the tortilla. It was scrumptious! I could have eaten a whole burrito of just that. Haha It also had a noticeable garlic flavor to me (I love garlic btw) which was really good as well. My only slight complaint; if you can call it that, is that the beans were whole pinto beans. It did not make the burrito bad by any means, and I like pinto beans a lot, it's just that I prefer my bean and cheese burritos to have refried beans. I would eat there again... One of my clients recommended this place, and she was not wrong. I ordered delivery for this spot, not knowing how good the food is. For me, it's on the other side of Long Beach, so I wouldn't be going to pick up food from here. Knowing what I know now, though, I will definitely be getting amazing food here. I went with their carne asada burrito with everything in it. Decent-sized burrito and hefty for sure. The green salsa this place makes is good. The burrito had amazing flavor. I was truly impressed by how good it was. My partner had the carne asada torta, and when she opened it, it looked a little messy. Like my burrito, it had a lot of flavor, and the bread was good. We each had a taco, and i stuck with carne, while she had pollo. We let them get cold, but they still tasted great. Lots of meat in the taco and plenty of onion and cilantro. We also ordered a bean and cheese burrito, which was hefty in size, but quite amazing after sitting for a while. We reheated it on a skillet, bringing back all the amazing flavors like the whole beans, the crunch of the onion, cheese, and cilantro. I've been here 3 times and it never disappoints. The owner chef guy is pretty cool. They were closing up tonight at 7pm but he brought a table out for me and my friend to eat right outside. The burrito, get it with the cheese, is so good. The meat is so tender and flavorful. Channel 5 news did mention they had one of the best burritos in Cali and I believe it. Getting my car worked on in the area and was craving for some menudo and this place had really high review so decided to come check it out. I came on a Friday night and there were plenty of parking spots on the street. The place was relatively empty as most of their orders were to go but the service was really awesome so I'd recommend eating it there. The place is relatively small so not that great for big groups . We ordered menudo large and two carne asada tacos. They brought us out three tacos an extra pastor which I thought was an error but confirmed that they wanted us to try it. Wow praise GOD we got blessed :) the tacos were really good! And we really loved the menudos. It came with a huge amount of meat, some corn tortillas and two types of salsa but be careful with the habanero salsa! In 2022, Yelp made the end-of-year proclamation that Joliza's Tacos had the best burrito in California. KTLA took the story and ran with it. Located in Long Beach, this definitely caught my attention. California has GREAT burritos in LA, SD, and SF. Wasn't expecting to see a local place on a national list. I want to report that the tacos and burritos at Joliza's are really good. The meat is flavorful and the red salsa is spicy. I would recommend that you order a "cheese crust" with your burrito. They intelligently choose to put the cheese crust on the inside of the burrito instead of the outside (which causes it to taste extra salty and greasy). I've actually had catering orders for tacos for my workplace and it was pretty well-loved. I'd do it more often if I could do pickup orders more easily. If you are a tourist or are from outside the LB area, I'm not telling you to take a detour for their burritos; however, I would say that their burritos are worth stopping to check out when you're driving in the area! A friend nostalgically talked about the bean and cheese burrito here so naturally I had to try it. The bean and cheese burrito ($11) here is a trip. First of all, the cheese is grilled right onto the tortilla which is textually really interesting and not too overtly cheesy. Secondly, the bean mixture up is a little more soupy with whole beans (and onions!) enveloped into the mixture. The rendition here is unexpectedly very good and I appreciate a good bean and cheese sitch. I also shared an order of potato taquitos ($7.50 for 3) and some tacos ($2.50). The potato taquitos are definitely worth a try. They hold their nice crispy exterior even after being topped with lettuce, some crema, and cotija cheese. These are an excellent snack if you're looking for something satisfying, but not too filling. Highly recommend the bean and cheese at Joliza. read more

I love this place. The burritos are so good. If you add cheese it's grilled on the tortilla. So good. Every Taco I have had has been good. My personal favorite- Asada add grilled cheese, and cilantro only with the habanero salsa. I could eat here every day. Service is great- everyone is always welcoming. Came here after realizing Yelp's "best burrito in California" a couple years ago was right in my backyard. Swung by to get Weekday lunch to-go and it did not disappoint! It's easy to miss this place as Pacific Ave can be a quiet yet high-traffic street (if that makes sense?) but you'll recognize it immediately by its colorful exterior amongst other places on the block. Parking shouldn't be too much of an issue if you're okay walking a minute or two down the block. I got a burrito (no beans--personal preference) with the grilled cheese crust and carne asada. Everything was pretty flavorful, well balanced and the grilled cheese added a really nice component that was not overwhelming. It's kind of folded into the burrito but does not make it overly greasy or anything. There is a pretty decent amount of rice so you may want to forego that if you're not super into rice in your burritos. We also tried some of the Al Pastor tacos which were really flavorful. Heads up, it's a bit spicy. Service was super friendly and fast. It's a bit small inside but enough seating for several small groups of people. It definitely gives me a real taco shop vibe when I go inside! Glad we have a place like this near Wrigley. read more

This place is known for their quesadillas but their tacos are SO good and it's very cheap. Total came out to $38 with an horchata and a bottle soda. The food comes out very fast and piping hot, their salsas have a kick to it. There was plenty of available parking in front of the shop and my bf and I got there around 6pm. Popped in here on a Tuesday around 11am, and was the only person in here besides the (super sweet and friendly) dude behind the counter. I ordered their carne asada burrito with the yellow salsa and an horchata. The carne asada burrito easily weighed more than a pound and needed to be held with two hands for the first couple of bites; this burrito was massive. There was plenty of rice and beans in it but they did not skimp on the meat -- this thing was a straight up protein powerhouse. Their yellow salsa brought some substantial heat without taking away the delicious saltiness of the meat and beans. The burrito lasted me two meals (and I have an appetite). Bruh this is cap. A few years ago Yelp published a National Burrito Day article declaring Joliza's Tacos in Long Beach THE BEST burrito in California. Not just any state in the Union... CALIFORNIA! The one place in America with so many Mexican food options, we have regional specialties within individual cities, not to mention specific counties that are known for a certain type of burrito. So does Joliza's deserve the crown? Sorry to say, it's a resounding HELL NO from me. The article quoted someone as saying, "This place is definitely a hidden gem worthy of being shown to the world." Really? Upon further research, not only did Yelp reviews promise the most flavorful carne asada I've ever had, it also mentioned that it would also be the biggest burrito I've ever had. At $11, what's not to love? Imagine my disappointment when I was handed a burrito the size of a brick... maybe that's considered big in other states, but here in California, it's only big if it's the size of a newborn baby! Ok, so size isn't everything... what about the meat? I took a bite and... it was... fine. Fine. Just fine. Seasoned well... but not especially so. Honestly, it was just a regular ol' carne asada burrito. When you make a claim as bold and specific as BEST BURRITO IN THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA, there better be some sort of payoff. While Joliza's certainly isn't an awful burrito, I've had better burritos in the past 2 months at Cali Tacos (Orange) and Tacos Los Cholos (Anaheim), both of which were bigger and had better meat. I don't even love burritos as much as some people, but whoever was responsible for naming Joliza's the best burrito in California should be ashamed of themselves... from Mission Burritos in The Bay, to California Burritos in San Diego, I cannot in good conscience recommend Joliza's as anything besides a decent local option for Long Beach residents. I've been wanting to try this place out based on reviews. I showed up tonight about 30 minutes before they closed. As I walked up, they were closing. The guy closing apologized and said they had a maintenance issue and had to close early. I turn to walk away. He asks me, "what were you going to order?" "A carne asada burrito.." "With everything?" "Yes..." He runs behind the counter and starts making the burrito. He bags it up with salsa and limes and hands it to me. I asked him, "How much do I owe you?" He says, "Nothing. We closed early and I'm glad I had just enough to make you one.." This review isn't to tell you to go get a free burrito. It's to tell you that the burrito, the last one he was able to scrape together? Was amazing. Even more amazing? The customer service. The humanity behind the great food. He won a customer for life. Stopped in for a few burritos and a Torta for dinner last night. Carne Asada was well seasoned and the burrito was huge. Bean and cheese burritos had great flavor and were gobbled up by the family. I ordered the Carnitas Torta and was very pleased!! Some places don't season their meat well. Loved the seasoning and the little Crispiness from the flat top grill. Would probably drink the green salsa if it wouldn't keep me up all night. It's a small spot with only a couple of tables so come on guys, let's keep them busy. Here was my experience AMBIANCE: Parking: Street parking and it can get pretty busy Seating: Inside seating for about 15 people total. Generally great for pairs. Feels: On the local street of Pacific. Not a touristy spot but a popular strip for locals. The spot itself is relatively simple. A grit and grind type of place with flashy colors. There's a tv playing movie, employees cooking delicious goods, and cars passing by back and forth. You can chill if you want or it's a great spot to pick up and go off to explore the joys of LB. FOOD: Burrito - Marinated Pork (Recommend) I asked for the fried cheese and it was well worth it. I enjoyed the savory crisp wrapped around the tortilla. The pork was marinated well which made the meat flavorful and had a good kick. The rice, beans, cilantro, and onions were pretty subtle as the meat was the focus. It's a pretty fulfilling burrito but it was pretty good, I almost finished it in one sitting. Potato Taquitos (Reccomend) Comes in 3 and it was delicious. Crunchy wrap and filling potatoes. The cotija cheese gave it some good flavor Horchata (Recommend) Delicious! Sweet, well cinamonned, and not too watery. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Great! Jesse was a solid dude. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars.
