Quesadilla with Chorizo (8.2/10) This was my first time having the chorizo from Sonoratown, and I was pleasantly surprised. It had even more flavor than the asada, so I'll probably try the chorizo burrito next time. Plenty of cheese paired with two flour tortillas had it melting in my mouth. Definitely worth ordering. At the time, I enjoyed the food and considered the drive worthwhile. However, after the restaurant changed cooks, I noticed a decline in the overall quality and stopped returning. Today, I decided to give it another try and stopped by for a small bite. I ordered the vampiro, but unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. The meat lacked noticeable seasoning or flavor, which was particularly disappointing given the restaurant's claim of cooking with mesquite coals. The tortilla topping also appeared to be more like a pre-made tostada than a tortilla toasted over an open flame. Traditionally, I would expect a lightly charred tortilla, which adds flavor and texture to the dish. Based on this visit, the quality has not returned to what I remember from two years ago. I was disappointed with the food and do not plan to come back to this location or any other for that matter.

El Sauz is THE late-night munchies spot!…read more I've been coming here for years, and one of the things I love most is that they're open late. I've ordered food here as late as 2:30 AM! They have a sit-down restaurant, a karaoke room, and even a walk-up window outside if you're just looking to grab something quickly. They're known for their tacos and their spicy habanero salsa, which definitely is spicy, be warned. LOL If you're dining inside, the chips and salsa are top-tier. Sooooo good and addicting! My personal favorite is the shrimp quesadillas. They're tiny, but mighty when it comes to flavor! I also like ordering their oysters. So far, they've always been clean, fresh, and hit the spot. They also have Micheladas, both the traditional version made with alcohol and a non-alcoholic version made with mineral water. Both are really good, and I highly recommend giving them a try! And for dessert, the rice pudding is served cold, and it's honestly one of the best I've had. Everyone I've brought here has been happy with their food and their choices, which says a lot because I've brought many friends and family here. As far as parking goes, you can usually find street parking, there's a parking lot, and there's also parking behind the restaurant. I will say the neighborhood is a little sketchy, but if you're local, it's really not a big deal. If you're coming from outside the city and aren't familiar with the area, I'd recommend just dining inside. There's a lot of homeless and liquor store activities across the street. It's usually not a big deal, but again if you're not used to it, you may freak out. Overall, El Sauz is one of my go-to spots for the late-night munchies, post concert, club, bar etc.

We were so excited to try this place but left very disappointed. It was about $2.7 per taco considering 6 tacos were $16.5. So yeah, given the price, there are higher quality options locally. These unfortunately were crunchy, chewy, premade tortillas, cheese not grilled in properly, birria and chicken so dry and stringy and also tasted premade (you can tell when the meat doesn't retain the juice and is dry, and the flavor is stale), and pickled vegetables that somehow didn't taste pickled. The other problem was the portion of the consomé size, which was way too small. The best thing was the grilled onions and consomé because you literally can't possibly fk that up. Although the consomé was a bit too gravy-like, and thick which considering the quality of everything else...was off putting. Ambiance felt fast paced, cramped parking, and a little dirty from being dated but it also had a fun, casual nightlife vibe. The service was fast and kind. They answered questions quick and politely without rushing us out of line. We had really high hopes for this place. This was not a first time either, we tried these guys years ago but even then it was mid. Now it just confirmed it. We do not recommend coming here unless you are craving tacos you can't make at home with premade ingredients, or find at another restaurant.

Super proud to be writing this review. My mom recently bought this restaurant off previous owners after working here 20+ years!!! I'm so proud of her. A totally non bias review, I grew up with my mom cooking all kinds of dishes & she's never missed not once. I think I can speak for anyone who has tried her food that it is amazing! This restaurant has been around for many years, i'm happy that we get to keep previous menu items that have been enjoyed by many throughout the years & continue to add on to that list! I know everyone's taste is different, but good flavor is usually easy to recognize. Unfortunately, I left really disappointed. The first issue was parking. There was almost no parking available, although I did notice what looked like one space next to the taco shop, but I'm not sure if it was only for pickup. As for the food, I ordered five carne asada tacos, one hard-shell carne asada taco, and a mahi-mahi fish taco. The carne asada was the biggest letdown. It had almost no flavor and didn't taste grilled or even seared. It honestly tasted like the meat had just been boiled and cut into pieces. The hard-shell taco wasn't any better, and the mahi-mahi taco was just okay. It felt like a waste of money, especially since the prices are about the same as other taco places that serve much better food. Personally, I'd rather go to Hole Mole, Baja Sonora, Tacos Chapala, or even one of the street taco stands under the tents. Those places have much better flavor. Sadly, I won't be coming back

I don't know what happened whether the owners have fallen on hard times or if they've had to sell. I know times are difficult these days. The meal was incredibly expensive for what it gave. We didn't realize how big the mulitas and burrito would be so we didn't finish everything. Other than the meats being good, the salsas were really tasty. Very rarely do I like red salsas but I happily used it. I had to tone it down to the green which is also very good but less spicy. The red has a kick, so beware. Also, the fact the corn tortillas are handmade, thick and fresh was another positive. I know now, that one mulita will do..I will just have to figure out what meat to get.
