At the time, I enjoyed the food and considered the drive worthwhile. However, after the restaurant changed cooks, I noticed a decline in the overall quality and stopped returning. Today, I decided to give it another try and stopped by for a small bite. I ordered the vampiro, but unfortunately, it did not meet my expectations. The meat lacked noticeable seasoning or flavor, which was particularly disappointing given the restaurant's claim of cooking with mesquite coals. The tortilla topping also appeared to be more like a pre-made tostada than a tortilla toasted over an open flame. Traditionally, I would expect a lightly charred tortilla, which adds flavor and texture to the dish. Based on this visit, the quality has not returned to what I remember from two years ago. I was disappointed with the food and do not plan to come back to this location or any other for that matter.

El Sauz is THE late-night munchies spot!…read more I've been coming here for years, and one of the things I love most is that they're open late. I've ordered food here as late as 2:30 AM! They have a sit-down restaurant, a karaoke room, and even a walk-up window outside if you're just looking to grab something quickly. They're known for their tacos and their spicy habanero salsa, which definitely is spicy, be warned. LOL If you're dining inside, the chips and salsa are top-tier. Sooooo good and addicting! My personal favorite is the shrimp quesadillas. They're tiny, but mighty when it comes to flavor! I also like ordering their oysters. So far, they've always been clean, fresh, and hit the spot. They also have Micheladas, both the traditional version made with alcohol and a non-alcoholic version made with mineral water. Both are really good, and I highly recommend giving them a try! And for dessert, the rice pudding is served cold, and it's honestly one of the best I've had. Everyone I've brought here has been happy with their food and their choices, which says a lot because I've brought many friends and family here. As far as parking goes, you can usually find street parking, there's a parking lot, and there's also parking behind the restaurant. I will say the neighborhood is a little sketchy, but if you're local, it's really not a big deal. If you're coming from outside the city and aren't familiar with the area, I'd recommend just dining inside. There's a lot of homeless and liquor store activities across the street. It's usually not a big deal, but again if you're not used to it, you may freak out. Overall, El Sauz is one of my go-to spots for the late-night munchies, post concert, club, bar etc.

We were so excited to try this place but left very disappointed. It was about $2.7 per taco considering 6 tacos were $16.5. So yeah, given the price, there are higher quality options locally. These unfortunately were crunchy, chewy, premade tortillas, cheese not grilled in properly, birria and chicken so dry and stringy and also tasted premade (you can tell when the meat doesn't retain the juice and is dry, and the flavor is stale), and pickled vegetables that somehow didn't taste pickled. The other problem was the portion of the consomé size, which was way too small. The best thing was the grilled onions and consomé because you literally can't possibly fk that up. Although the consomé was a bit too gravy-like, and thick which considering the quality of everything else...was off putting. Ambiance felt fast paced, cramped parking, and a little dirty from being dated but it also had a fun, casual nightlife vibe. The service was fast and kind. They answered questions quick and politely without rushing us out of line. We had really high hopes for this place. This was not a first time either, we tried these guys years ago but even then it was mid. Now it just confirmed it. We do not recommend coming here unless you are craving tacos you can't make at home with premade ingredients, or find at another restaurant.

The food (especially the less common meats) and service was solid. The food truck has a semi-permanent location in the parking lot of the Magnolia Tire Shop, on the NE corner of Anaheim and Magnolia. They have a large variety of meats, paired with different types of Mexican favorites, so got mostly street size tacos, along with one mulita. There is a small self-serve salsa bar, with 3 different types of salsas (in pump containers to keep the mess down), 4 types of condiments (sliced cucumbers, limes, a very, very hot pickled onion mix, and a diced onion/cilantro mix. It was a Friday, so none of the specials applied making the meal not particularly of good value for a taco truck. Tacos are $2.50 each, each small corn tortilla piled high with the meats. My daughter tried the Pastor (the trombo is located inside the truck) which she said she enjoyed, especially with the pineapple. Mom liked the Taco Pollo that she got. My wife tried the mulita ($7) with the birria and cheese, and she liked it with the green salsa. My neighbor and I tried a sampling of the 2 offal meats here (buche and tripas...which is $0.50 more per taco), all on a taco, along with the cabeza. All were very good, especially the cabeza and tripas....wish other restaurants would use this quality of tripas in their menudo. Payment is expected at time of order and is cash only. I forgot to get drinks so my daughter got a pepsi and bottled water, and also got an order of grilled cambray onions and jalapenos...wish they had been grilled a bit longer. The gentleman manning the cash register was friendly, and called out our number in under 10 minutes. There was a steady stream of customers, never enough to overwhelm or create a large line. With the canopy keeping the sun off of us, it was fine eating outside....though I later realized in my pictures that all my food photos had a pronounced red tint to it.
