I have to give this place one star and it has nothing to do with the food. I'd give it three stars for all the good reasons. Let me explain... The cool facts about Joey's Pizza in Maspeth is the food isn't too bad and they're open until 1AM; the problem there is they seem to play around with the prices, especially when you're not paying attention. This seems to have happen to us when we order delivery. They have made good on mistakes when at their place. The menu is indeed right there, so it's easy to reference to it when all else fails. I've been ordering from them for over ten years going back to when it was called Caruana's Pizza. For whatever reason, when it became "Joey's" they seemed to have changed their mindset on their delivery orders. I noticed this problem from the very start, but back then they always did right when you let them know about it. You asked then to look at the menu price and they made good!!!! Today, it's a lot different, it turns into an argument you will never win. Apparently, if you place an order one week, the exact same item is a different price the next week and it may go back to the original price the following week... When you call them out on it, they tell you you're wrong and that the prices went up (five years ago) even though their current menu and website have the amount you're accustom to and just paid a few days earlier. Case in point, we have been ordering their new "Whole Wheat Thin Crust Pizza" which they never offered five years ago. Their website and menu (to date) states $6.00 USD. We have paid, $6.00, $6.50 and even $8.50 for the same exact item. I'm not adding any topping, just their $6.00 "Whole Wheat Thin Crust." They have done this with other menu items. He never let me explain my situation. I wanted to let him know, that we still had the receipts and wanted to show them to him, but he just kept talking over me never letting me speak, asking me if I wanted to place the pizza order or not. I told him I would love to place an order, but wanted to address the situation at hand first. In the end, this guy, (the owner no less) threatened me and said, "he's going to come over and f&*k my mother." I mean, " f&*k my mother," really? Over their new "Whole Wheat Thin Crust Pizza?" Really? That being said, everyone makes a mistake, prices change, things happen, but there should be some accountability with regard to the establishment. IMHO, if a customer calls you out on a problem they have encountered, consider taking care of their concerns with an open ear. It shouldn't be a burden to you. This guy told me he was too busy to deal with my problem, but wanted to know if I wanted to place the order or not. It's a shame he took this stand, because my crew and I enjoyed they products... Keep in mind, we order at least five times a week from the various food establishments (we love) that delivery to Maspeth; economics does play a part in it all. UPDATE: I just went by Joey's Pizza in Maspeth today (05.08.12) to do my do diligence and make sure their menu prices didn't change, and I'm sorry to say the prices were exactly the same as we expected when we ordered in the past, so there is no doubt in our minds that they over charged us and didn't want to do anything about it even when we had receipts. Keep in mind, The price has varied a number of times from $6.00 to $8.50 for the same $6.00 item since January 2012! read more

I would have gave this pizzeria 5 stars if it wasn't for the rude and unpleasant owner who works their. I came in today for the first time today after reading wonderful comments and regret every minute of it. I ordered 2 beef patties, a slice, and a chicken roll; upon paying the owner rudely asked me if I had an id keep in mind I was paying with the debit card. In front of other customers he told me its the law to check id if paying w a debit or credit card. I told him it is not the law to check ids for debit cards because I can insert my pin. He continue to yell and harass me. Although they have great food the owner is clearly racist. While I was there I also heard him make racist jokes about their delivery guy who's Chinese. I will never return here- even if they are given free pizza. This guy does not know how to treat people and should have no customers. Great job. Joey! read more

This place was good maybe 5-10 years ago but something's changed. Ordered two pepperoni pies and wings today and everything was terrible and pretty expensive at almost $80. I'll be going elsewhere. read more

I have three words: Sesame seed crust. That's what makes Joey's stand out. While the pizza itself is pretty standard, it's the crust that really makes it memorable. If you want a good NY style slice with something a little different, go to Maspeth and check it out. read more

Great local spot that's been around for years, and family run. It's pretty much a landmark for the area. It often gets overlooked by people cause of the more well known Rosa's pizza which has a few locations but this is a great spot and many locals come to here for their pizza fix. The pizza is very good with a great price chicken rolls are large and filling. It's open late too until 1 am all week long. read more

Worst attitude by the Italian guy that picks up the phone I put my order in it was about $14 I proceeded to give them my credit card information and he said and said there was a $20 minimum on a card he asked me why don't I have cash I told him I don't have cash he said never mind and hung up the phone worst customer service ever. My experience at this place wasn't good at all, the guys behind the counter are cool but the owner is a complete JERk !! maybe Rosa's is making his life Miserable!! This is my favorite pizza spot. Their regular slice have sesame seeds on their crust which gives a twist to the traditional regular slice. You need to try their grandma slice; it's amazing! The amount of sauce and olive oil on it is just right! If you ever order a slice with toppings on it, expect to get a decent amount of toppings on it. Every time I ordered their veggie slice, it's topped with lots of vegetables on it. If you're a fan of penne alla vodka, but don't want to order it cause it's a pretty big portion, try their penne slice. It's literally a penne alla vodka on a regular slice. It's so good! Like most neighborhoods, Maspeth and Middle village have a ton of pizza places. Most deliver, most take credit card...but none have sesame seeds on the pizza crust. It may not sound like a big deal but once you have it everything else seems like its missing something. Having been in the area for a long time I've tried several different places, some I like for one item and others just do it all right...that is Joeys. The personal size pie is GREAT. When ordering for the family its easier to order 2-3 of the personal with different toppings. Perfectly cooked and delivered nice and hot. Its established that their pizza is great! About a year ago I order Italian food from another location place - good food.Two entrees and a salad were $60 with a tip. It took forever to deliver, the delivery guy couldn't be bothered and the person who took the order was obnoxious and handling three other things while taking my order. Any who, the next time we were craving Italian I was reluctant to give this place my business....so I decided to call Joey's for something other than Pizza. Thank god I did. I have not ordered from anywhere else since. We regularly order Penne Vodka with Chicken Cutlet - awesome sauce!!!, the Chicken Francese with pasta is my favorite...I go crazy and have it served in the Francese sauce...wow mama!!! The Chicken Parm hero is good too - fresh bread and more chicken than cheese unlike other places. Lets talk the workers and delivery folks...always nice. The phone orders go nice and smooth, repeat your order back to you, and quick delivery. With all this love for joey's - I've only eaten there once. Its your typical pizza shop decor...but the staff is very nice and attentive. We ordered slices, garlic knots and mozzarella sticks...they brought everything out to us and we paid before we left. the pizza here is fantastic. today, i decided to order joey's and got delivery from them. they came in an hour but they're a mile away from me so i guess it's reasonable. the cheese, sauce and crust all taste amazing. however, there was one problem i had with my pizza. there was a weird aftertaste that i don't recall and should not taste when i'm eating anything. it was that taste/smell you get from an overused towel or rag. if it weren't for that weird aftertaste and one hour delivery, i probably would've given them a four or five. i will order again but hopefully next time i don't receive that kind of aftertaste and a faster delivery window. read more

Their regular Neapolitan slice is so much better, esp with the Sesame crust, which the previous pizzeria (Carurana?? spelling) started. So I ordered for delivery from this place via Seamless and boy it was biggest mistake of my life. My order was chicken rollatini with mozarela and prosciuto. Well in any world you would think it is chicken cutlet rolled with mozarela and prosciuto outside thats what dish is in any country thats serving Italian food but not in this rude owners head. I gave them a call and explained how this is not rollatini but pieces of chicken swimming in some pool of some soup like sauce with pieces of fake prosciuto and some mushrooms and owner answered me I cant do anything for you cause listen to this line: IT IS MY UNCLE RECIPE!!!! Location is good as well, except for having to compete with Rosa's right across the street, but their pizza is different enough to make them a separate stop. read more

Really Great Grandma's pies! Fresh tasting sauce with fresh basil!

My girl and I were hungry and stumbled upon this place near where we live. The pizza was delicious. Their plain slice was really good. I loved the sauce and the crust. I tried the bbq chicken slice but wasn't a huge fan of that. I look forward to trying their buffalo chicken slice next time. I almost feel like I can eat an entire pie of plain pizza. =) read more

Pretty good sauce and reheats very well (compared to Maspeth Pizza - which doesn't reheat as well). Free delivery. I have had a few of the different pizzas, the calamari marinara, the fried calamari, etc. I really like that the calamari is fresh and not those weird frozen gummy ringlets that other places serve. I do love the sesame crust, however, the quality and taste of their pizza has dropped since new ownership took over. The buffalo blue cheese pizza was AMAZING back in the day, now it tastes of old cheese and I think they use to much salt in the sauce. Well, everything pretty much tastes like old cheese there now. This is my favorite pizzeria in Maspeth. There are quite a few pizza shops in the neighborhood. I've been to most of them, but Joey's is my fave. I've been coming here back when it was called Caruana. Their large pizza comes with sesame seeds on the crust. My favorite is the Chicken marsala pizza. It comes topped with grilled chicken, mushrooms and marsala wine. Their sicilian pie fed my brother and I for a whole week! The wings are average in my opinion. The prices are good considering the quantity and quality of the food. The delivery time is typically 45 minutes when I call them up, which is reasonable. They are also open late which is a plus. read more
