Pulled up to Park Side in Corona, Queens and accidentally time-traveled to when portions were illegal and bread was a personality trait. You can feel the special atmosphere right away. It's clearly a classic, long-standing place: there were many older guests, probably regulars for years, and also a good number of younger people too. Free bread basket built like a full-body gym workout. Service was top-notch -- drinks never empty, not once. Started with fried calamari and their house sauce... dangerous. Baked clams so good we used every carb on the table as a sponge. No crumbs left behind. Then the heavy hitters: veal parm + chicken parm combo like a tag team match. The chicken parm came out looking like a beautiful landslide of sauce and cheese -- couldn't even see the chicken and I wasn't mad about it. Also smashed the chicken fettuccine Alfredo: rich cream, butter, parmigiana, imported mascarpone... pure respect. Closed it out with chocolate mousse, then they hit us with free biscotti like a victory lap. Park Side isn't a meal -- it's a commitment. Queens stays undefeated. read more

Back when I graduated college, I made a resolution to try the best of NYC's old school Italian restaurants. Parkside figured highly into that list, as I'm a Brooklyn guy and had not explored much there. Life happens fast and that goal fell by the wayside; however when a friend mentioned going to Parkside for lunch a few weeks back, I just at the chance. Walking in, there's a ton of woods and a ton of photos. The whole place is like a rec room basement with a ton of plants and a bit more light--I mean this in the best way. Service was immaculate and professional, while still being great with my son. Menu is huge, tables all have names attached, and the family vibe is as thick as cigar smoke. Bread basket is awesome as others noted. Always love a good lard bread and theirs was delicious. I felt bad not ordering an app--it's always Russian roulette with how long a kid will sit and eat--so this partly made up for it. Negroni was perfect if a bit stiff. I got the linguini with clams and shrimp; I was not disappointed, as the portion was massive. Clams were good quality if a bit overcooked, while the shrimp were huge, great quality and perfectly cooked. Wish the pasta was more al dente too, but man of man that sauce. Wonderfully rich and oily. Tasted homemade, which is the biggest thing with a place like this. Came close to my favorite (La Palina). My wife loved her broccoli rabe and whatever she got (chicken), my friend loved his seafood combo (like mine with lobster and calamari), and my son ate mostly bread so we took home his pasta with garlic and oil for my wife. Again no dessert as my son was quickly getting close to down, however I got an espresso with a few free cookies, and we were on our way. Will definitely be back here, as it's under an hour from Westchester depending on traffic. I love my Brooklyn spots but a 2 hour commute is hard to do often. We ordered grilled octopus and clams for appetizers Grilled octopus was solid and so were the clams For entrees, we ordered spinach ravioli, veal Parmesan, lobster risotto, shrimp scampi with pasta, and rigatoni with lamb ragu. Top dishes that stood out were the spinach ravioli, lobster risotto, veal parm. Least favorite was probably the rigatoni with lamb ragu because the mint was unexpected and did not really go well with the dish. Our only issue with the spinach ravioli was there wasn't more of them. They were easily the best dish here. Lobster risotto was sooo good too. Overall, I would come back here. My party requested the second floor which is the small, sleek & beautiful Marilyn Monroe room. Downstairs is divided into 2 section, classic Italian room and a garden room. There is a large bar area off to the side. Party of 3, everything we ordered was good, and enough to share. Complimentary antipasto & bread basket on arrival For starters we went with the baked clams and the lump crab cocktail. For entree I had the shrimp fra diavlo which is my go to dish and it did not disappoint, jumbo shrimp served over a bed of pasta in a perfectly spiced red sauce. Don't trust their reservation system over the phone. They took down name and date and number of people for reservation a month ago, only for us to get there the night of to tell us they have the name and time but not the right number of people. I have been dying to try this place for the longest. I have gotten a gift card but never been able to use it. We decided to throw our friend a surprise engagement party here for a girls dinner only. When you look at the restaurant from the outside, it looks like it will be a regular restaurant it once you step inside, it's quite beautiful. Has a very elegant atmosphere with nice backgrounds to take pictures. We ordered two bottles of white wine which paired so well with my white clam linguini. My dish was so large and there was plenty to take home. It was filled with clams and the pasta was al dente just like I like it. We ordered bruschetta as an appetizer which was a great way to start the meal. The service was really great, the waiter was attentive and made sure we were good the whole time. For dessert we shared the tiramisu which was sweet and creamy. I will definitely be returning to enjoy a meal with my family. read more

One of my favorite Italian restaurants in all of New York City and that says a lot considering how many options we have to chose from in the city. This gem is historic and has so much charm to it. The food is always delicious. I always order an appetizer but they bring out a basket full of different types of bread, meats, and cheeses which is complementary and phenomenal. Old school Italian at its best! They start you off with an INCREDIBLE bread basket , everything in it is amazing. I chose the Calamari - coated perfectly and not chewy at all - just perfect . For a started also trie the watermelon burrata salad - fresh and nicely presented . I felt like a simple staple so I ordered the Veal Cutlet Parmigiana . It was a perfect choice! The veal was so tender, thin and fried to perfection. The cheese was baked with a nice golden color. The cheese was also delicate. The al dente spaghetti for my side, had such a flavorful sauce. The dessert menu has something for everyone. I recommend the Pistachio tartufo. You will leave with a full belly and some food to take home. Service is GREAT! Valet parking is available. Park Side Restaurant is an Italian restaurant that opened in Queens, New York in 1980. It was founded by Anthony "Tough Tony" Federici. Located just down the street from Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, it was originally opened as the Corona Supper Club by Federici's parents in 1960. The menu specializes in southern Italian and Sicilian cuisine. Notable celebrity diners over the years include Johnny Depp and Robert De Niro. Federici passed away in 2022. My family and I recently visited Park Side Restaurant while we were in Queens for the day. We were visiting Flushing Meadows-Corona Park and heard that Park Side was a great lunch option. It is one of the last historic Italian-American restaurants that's still open in Brooklyn or Queens. The interior featured a glitzy dining room with a nice bar area. As we looked over the menu, the table was served a complimentary bread bowl. This was no ordinary bread bowl! It featured multiple varieties of delicious bread, including sesame seed semolina bread, olive rolls, herb-topped focaccia, and lard bread. For entrees, our two sons shared a large bowl of "Penne all Vodka", my wife had the "Shrimp Fra Diavolo" with a side House Salad, and I had the "Broiled Pork Chops" (with vinegar peppers) and a side of Penne Marinara. The service was a little slow during our visit, but the food more than made up for it because everything was fantastic! I ordered the pork chops because they were highly recommended. I had no regrets as they were so flavorful and the peppers were the icing on the cake. My wife loved her shrimp and both of our sons loved their pasta. Our meal ended with a complimentary plate of biscotti. We had a lot of bread left over and we had no shame for taking the rest home. Wow, what happened to Park Side reservations?! The restaurant service has gone down tremendously. We had the lamb chops, the octopus special, the meatballs ragooni special the the crab cake. We waited a bit for our food so we asked for bread and not sure why they didn't give us any butter. Then they never checked on us to see how the food was so we decided to just ask for the check and not bother with dessert or coffee at all. Horrible. Definitely will not be back. They have the best bread basket, the best service and the ambiance of an old world Italian restaurant. The food was delicious as always. The linguine with clam sauce had big, juicy clams. The veal was tender and really didn't need a knife. The pasta special with eggplant and zucchini was tasty and enough for 2 meals. The wine list is extensive. Always a delightful pasta meal at Parkside. Beware of horrid parking situation around it though but they offer valet and the guys work off tips. We ordered the wild mushroom fettuccine and fettuccine carbonara. It was a lil too watery this time for my liking but flavor was still good.
