My cousin and I won a gift card here for best Halloween costume for the Fort Totten 5k. We came here that same day (Sunday). The restaurant was packed and very lively. The server started us with bread for the table, grapes, and cheese. For my meal, I ordered penne a la vodka with chicken. My cousin got fish which he said was slightly above average. He thought the portion size was small for the price. I enjoyed my meal. We decided not to get dessert. Overall, it was a nice time out. This was an amazing evening for just a dinner date or family night. I got the Le Vian baby that Henny & Capt. Morgan hit a punch that was gooodddrd like a dark and stormy drink. Got the salad omg soooo good didn't even get a picture but it was the one that had the blue cheese on it. The ambiance was perfect for a date night and the service was great with friendly and attentive servers. We ordered a mushroom pizza, penne alla vodka and a side of meatballs. The pizza and meatballs were solid but the pasta was subpar because despite the really great reviews, we were super disappointed to find the noodles overcooked which is a huge no no for me when it comes to Italian food, especially when it comes to such a classic dish. Tonight my husband called to place a simple takeout order at 9 PM -- an hour before your posted closing time. Instead, he was met with pure condescension and outright disrespect by a staff member named Max. Without even asking what he was calling for, Max dismissively said: "The kitchen's closed. It's Father's Day. Sorry for the inconvenience. Have a nice night," and hung up the phone. Hung up. On a customer. Mid-sentence. My husband called back -- not to argue -- but simply to understand why he was abruptly disconnected. And the response? Max smugly declared: "I knew you would argue and I didn't want to argue. It's Father's Day," before hanging up again. This is not just poor customer service -- this is contempt for your customers. Max took it upon himself to close the restaurant early and treated a paying customer like an annoyance simply because he decided he didn't feel like working anymore. Apparently at Trattoria 35, customers exist at the whim of whatever mood your staff happens to be in. Let's be crystal clear: * Your posted hours are until 10 PM. * Your kitchen was open. * Your staff flat-out refused service, lied, and then handled it with arrogance and juvenile behavior. Max is the face of your restaurant tonight. His behavior was unprofessional, hostile, and completely unacceptable. If this is the type of person you allow to represent your business, it says everything anyone needs to know about the management behind the scenes. There are dozens of far superior restaurants in this city where customers are treated with basic decency -- something your staff apparently feels is optional. A solid Italian restaurant anchoring the north end of the Bell Blvd restaurant strip in Bayside. It's an easy exit from the Clearview Expy, down 35th Ave and pull up to the valet. Or you can street park it yourself in the neighborhood, since the streets are not as crowded as further down Bell, where the bulk of the restaurants are. In the past, we've had large group (20+) dinners here and they've accommodated us in the main dining room, but if you have a really large group celebration, ask about the party room upstairs. If it's just a small family dinner, just call ahead. If your server hasn't already recited the specials of the day when you are seated at your table, please ask because the chef will have fresh seafood dishes picked out just for the day, such as halibut and chilean sea bass. For a recent dinner, we started with the Grilled Octopus Salad, which was pretty tender and a dozen Baked Clams and the chef made it a bakers dozen. The zuppa del giorno was an American favorite (and mine), Split Pea, but they made it with prosciutto and I loved it with the homemade croutons. The Pappardelle with Halibut, Shrimp and Scallops special that my son had was really good with fresh made pasta ribbons and plenty of seafood. My wife's Chicken and Portobello Mushroom was OK and I went with an old menu favorite, the Linguini Mare Bello Fra Diavolo. It was loaded with calamari, shrimp, clams and mussels (in shell) and plenty of sliced garlic in a spicy tomato sauce. Now my buddy, Matteo had asked me what Fra Diavolo was because it doesn't exist in his native Italy, so I assume it is an Italian-American invention, similar to many American takes on other ethnic cuisines that have evolved in the US. Hadn't been to Trattoria in several years because we moved over the bridge, but yesterday were meeting some island friends and chose our old standby. So glad we did! The service is still competent and friendly. (We were a group of eight) We were served complementary cheese and olives along with the big basket of bread. I won't order veal just anywhere because I don't like it when it's stringy and tough. But here every bite was delicious. The prices were reasonable and the portions were VERY generous. We hold Trattoria 35 in the realm of high-end restaurants. We ordered takeout tonight one meal Baked Ziti, which tasted excellent and the other one, the Seabass was again excellent. When I ordered, I asked what came with the meal and they told me Bread would come And my mistake for not checking but when I got home, there was no bread and I called to let them know somebody's not doing their job and I was just told well next time we'll give you a double. It would've been nice to say, "sir, we will get you the bread. What is your address?" But that didn't happen. My reason for calling was to let them know somebody dropped the ball so that somebody else doesn't feel the effects of someone not doing their job. Again the food is excellent. read more

My friend and I decided to come here for a lite dinner. We have been here 2 other times before. Usually the food was pretty good. The service is always great here. That's the good news. The staff are fast, mindful, and a tentative. We sat down and were given whipped butter with flatbread and dinner rolls. The flatbread was hard but the dinner rolls were great. Especially with the whipped butter. We ordered fried calamari and ravioli with crab meat. It pains me to say it but.... This was just not good. Always a good time at Trattoria 35. Whenever we venture to Bayside from Brooklyn, we always have to stop by Trattoria 35 for a meal. My daughter, niece and nephew claims it as their favorite restaurant. Us adults also love the food here as well. Some fan favorites: trofie pesto pasta with chicken, linguine with white clam sauce, the salmon oreganata, the chicken parm, calamari, the pizzas, and their bread. The staff are all super friendly and helpful. It's always packed there but we never have to wait long for a table which is super appreciated whenever you are eating with little kids. My daughter is excited to go back to visit Uncle Billy (owner of the restaurant) who said they will start having special gifts for kids who come to eat soon! read more

I came here for the first time for a friend's birthday and even though I was early the staff immediately sat me down and asked if I wanted coffee/tea while I wait for my party to arrive. The wait staff here is very attentive, with the constant refills of coffee and water during the birthday brunch. The food here is good with generous portion sizes, making this place a great place to do family style lunch/dinners in order to try a bit of everything. Service is okay and the ambiance isn't bad, but the food wasn't good this time around. I wasn't planning to come back here due to my bad experience last time, but the Italian restaurant I wanted to go to is closed on Mondays. I ordered lasagna and my husband ordered linguini with white clam sauce. My husband liked his dish, however he said he had better and I definitely had better lasagna before. Both dishes weren't hot, but lukewarm. My lasagna tasted like store bought lasagna. The cheese wasn't melted well and part of the lasagna was burnt. I was done after the lasagna, but my husband wanted more food so we ordered dessert. We had the home made tiramisu for dessert and it tastes good, but the presentation was not good. They brought it out to us with a piece broken off. Went for dinner with my wife on a Saturday night. Dinner started well with delicious appetizers. We ordered the Frito Misto which was more than enough for two people. I was absolutely delicious. Dinner went downhill from there. We waited at least 45 minutes for dinner to come out and when it arrived, it was barely lukewarm? I had a fish dinner which was obviously over cooked and dried out. It's been a long time since I've visited Trattoria 35 and just as before it makes fir a great meal. We made a reservation for an early Thursday evening dinner, we arrived and only a few tables were occupied, but an our or so later, the place was pretty full. We started out with some apps for the table and everything was delicious. The fried calamari, zucchini sticks, fried ravioli and the Caesar salad all were great. I opt'd for the dish that was always my favorite; the calamari with crumbled sausage and asparagus and it was just as good as I remembered it. It's such a comforting and satisfying dish.
