My family and I enjoyed our Valentine's Day dinner at Liola. Having a tiny tot (1 years old) we worried about a restaurant not wanting to accommodate us on Valentine's Day, but we were welcomed and not rushed! We were pleased to see a number of families with their children there in fact! Service was excellent. Our waiter and servers were all kind and did a great job with timing. The dining room is nice and our little tot loved the brick oven. I definitely recommend for a family meal. read more

4++ A great pair of hands = a world of difference. The pizza at Liola' has always been good, thanks to their fresh ingredients and fantastic oven. Now with the addition of their EXPERT Neapolitan pizzaiolo, LIOLA' pies have transcended to become other worldly. Liola's brick oven pizza with a glass of house Malbec will turn any mood right. Having it made by the hands of a cute Italian regazzo is an added bonus. All the staff is super sweet even while dealing with crying babies and family gatherings. The front bar is a great spot for a weeknight drink which I plan to add to my list of "self-care" activities. read more

Authentic Italian restaurant, my friend recommended this place since it was near their home. We had a 6:30pm reservation on a Friday night. Place was pretty empty when we arrived, it was just us and another table. Ambiance was simple, staff were super nice and accommodating, cocktails were tasty, and food was very good. We shared a large margherita pizza, calamari, and octopus. I ordered the tagliatelle al ragu. My dish was perfection, I really enjoyed it. My husband had the spaghetti alla carbonara and my friends had the penne alla vodka and gnocchi sorrentina, they also thought it was very delicious. We were disappointed that the pistachio and tiramisu dessert was already sold out, especially since it was just us at the restaurant. The server recommended the pistachio and hazelnut gelato instead and we also ordered a chocolate cake. Desserts were solid. I would definitely come back if I'm around the area again, surprise it was a very slow night on a Friday evening, we had the restaurant to ourselves which was nice. read more

First off, who the heck is rating this restaurant with $$$$? This is not Carbone my friends. The prices are very reasonable compared to any descent Italian joint. I don't get it but lets move on... The food is very good and service is adequate. The ambiance is nothing special, actually it could use a serious facelift. However, to me its 65% about food, 20% service and 15% ambiance. Sure I'd like better service and ambiance but if the food sucks who cares how you're treated in beautiful surroundings.. read more

Our waitress was brand new and was not very familiar with the menu. She had difficulty getting our order correct; she asked three times. Each time she asked, she went by memory with writing our order. We had to asked three times for the pre-meal bread. In her defense, I don't believe she should have been allowed to wait on customers without proper training. By the way, we thought the food was ok. Another nice Italian restaurant in Whitestone. Pros: attentive service, relatively reasonable prices, tables spaced out, the people with me commented positively about the mussels appetizer, the baby lamb chops special and some of the drinks from the bar. Entrees lean pizza and pasta though there are a few other options and some specials. They had an ipa in their beer selection beyond the usual macro brands. Cons: though people are spaced well and the ceilings are high it seems noise travels very easily. On a not too busy evening it sounded like a crowded restaurant. read more

I enjoyed the spaghetti al pomodoro e basilico no cheese. Very simple yet clean. Felt like I could eat 3 of these. The regular spaghetti with tomato sauce was not that good. Tasted too herby for me and kinda flat. Overall solid. read more

We came here recently for my Mothers birthday. This is a very classy upscale Italian restaurant. You can come in jeans and a t-shit, but I recommend coming in a minimum of pants and polo. Our waiter was very friendly! He was very knowledgeable on the menu and worked around one of our guests who was Vegan and found several more options that she was able to enjoy. For apps we got the Calamari and the meatballs. I also got the carpaccio! All the choices were fresh and delicious. The Calamari were super fresh and nice and crispy. The meatballs were juicy and had tons of flavor! I've never had carpaccio beforehand, but boy was it delicious! Salty and delicious! 100% would order again lol! For our Entree's we probably got half of them with our party of 10 lol! The pastas were all fantastic and tasted fresh. No matter which one you pick it is delicious! They really take the time to make the plate as pretty as possible also. I will say that I am a larger gentleman, and I can put a lot away. I was left a little empty afterwards, yay McD! But this place has truly amazing food. Full of flavor! Staff is friendly and warm. The restaurant is mellow and fancy. Beautiful ambiance! All in all a great restaurant! Delicious food! Ordered from Liola on UberEats last night, so prefacing that this review isn't based on in-person dining. We ordered the margherita pizza, cacio e pepe pizza, and penne vodka to split. The star of the meal was the margherita pizza - if we had in at the restaurant at peak temperature, I could tell it would have been divine. The cacio e pepe pizza was an interesting twist, but wasn't that great - seemed way too heavy on the pepper. The penne vodka was the biggest disappointment. Bland, not a ton of sauce, and definitely in the bottom tier of penne vodka I've had. read more

This place is the epitome of a hidden gem. I'm almost angry that I didn't find this restaurant sooner. I drove by almost everyday and never even looked twice until a friend recommended it. Everything on the menu is amazing, but the pizzas are either star. I heard they imported the pizza oven and even the flour they use from Italy and you really can taste the difference. Every pizza I've tried was delicious, but my favorites are the mushroom pizza and burrata pizza. The mushroom pizza is bursting with meaty, juicy, umami mushrooms. The burrata is creamy and the arugula adds a nice balance of peppery lightness. The pizza dough is so delicate and perfectly pillowy on the inside and crusty on the outside. I crave this pizza weekly! read more

We came here on a Sunday at 3pm after a nearby memorial service. From the outside, it looks elegant and inviting. The ambiance inside is classic and tasteful. It seemed like they were social distancing--the place was only half full. I thought we had lucked out and found the perfect place for our party of 8. Unfortunately, most of the food wasn't up to the nice ambiance. we started with a pizza appetizer, which had way way too much oregano. The crust itself however was tasty with the right amount of bite. I had a burrata, tomato and prosciutto sandwich which was soggy (bread was way too dense). And cost around $15. Then I had meatballs (dry and tasteless). I left most of that on the plate. The one good thing was the salad with avocado and corn. It was well seasoned and the avocado was perfectly ripe. The service was meh. They seemed to reach over me a little too much for my comfort. Bottom line: this place needs to try harder to justify the price. The pizza seems the best bet. read more

Easily one of the best restaurants in NYC. For a full Italian Ristorante. Look no further than" Liola " brick oven pizzas are fresh and phenomenal the appetizers are wide in variety and nice portions for and appetite or family gatherings birthdays and simply put some of the best Italian Cuisine on the Queens side of the Whitestone. 12 minutes from the Bronx 30 from Manhattan make this a definite go to for any gathering the space is well managed full bar and welcoming and friendly staff from Giovanni Xavier to the young lady with the red hair and curls so sorry for forgetting your name you are all still awesome white table cloth dining experience classy nice lighting an instant classic or favorite for anyone reasonably priced delicious offerings and on top of all that a lounge bar for that Knicks game seven or Any sports event of the moment. I have only praise to give "Liola" if I had one suggestion it would be to get in some craft beer otherwise this place is a ten "10+" ***** They should compete for the Michelin distinction and stars It was Literally "that"excuse my words "damn good" from the seating to the service to the servings A1A. This is my go to spot for Italian now in Whitestone. There was an event going on the day I went so I was unable to sit inside but there is outdoor dining. The only unfortunate thing is even if the weather is nice, it isn't the best area to sit because it's right by the parkway and the cars make it quite loud. However food wise, I did like the calamari. It had a nice texture and good marinara sauce. The bufalina pizza(?) was really good. The crust was crispy, the sauce was sweet and tart and had just the perfect amount of cheese. The bolognese pasta was delicious as well. I was not a fan of the carbonara pasta but I think that was just me. read more

Service: by far the worst service I've ever experienced at a restaurant. The wait staff was too focused on a party and neglected the other tables. Nobody checked on us. Water was never refilled. I asked for grated cheese and finally got it when I was 3/4 of the way done with my pasta. Food: arancini in what seemed to be Alfredo sauce but no where on the menu does it say it comes in Alfredo sauce. Tagliatelle bolognese- no taste what so ever. My wife's pasta was also very bland. Decor: restaurant has a weird feel to it. This place is highly over rated. read more

I went to Liola for dinner and the experience was wonderful. The staff are all wearing masks and they provide hand sanitizer for everyone. I also enjoyed seeing how the tables were distant from the other tables, which follows the CDC guidelines. Our waiter, Mohammed, was an excellent server! He recommended a great wine for my table and it paired so well with our meal. The food was delicious and came out just in time for us. Our other waiters, Alex and Anna, were also great host. I highly recommend anyone to go here for a perfect Italian lunch/dinner. We will be coming again shortly ! read more

A wonderful find In Whitestone. Our friends came in from Plainview and we decided to go there for lunch. We were all impressed. Mohammed our waiter couldn't have been more helpful and nice. The food was exceptional. My husband had 1/2 order of spinach ravioli to start, the others had the beet salad as an appetizer and than the Salmon. Really tasty well prepared and presented. We all can't wait Went again and once again everything was perfect. Mohammed is so sweet. My husband has a medical problem and uses a walker. Mohammed is always there for him. We once again had the perfect beet salad and my husband had fish so wonderfully prepared I wish we could have it everyday read more

There are some dedicated parking spaces that have a three hour limit if dining. Upon arrival, I entered the inside restaurant space for Dakota's on the Grove. It was aesthetically pleasing. I should have sat inside here instead of in their outdoor space which they call The Grove at Dakota's. I was able to choose where I wanted to sit, so I chose a table near this shed where the bartender/waiter was. I noticed they were setting up for the Knicks Game 3 final and there were two large TVs and a projection screen. I overheard the waiter state that the area would be packed for the game tonight. There was also good music playing throughout. They had a large connect four, which would be nice to play. They are family friendly and had high chairs for babies and toddlers. When sitting outside they state that they have to preauthorize your card. Now getting onto the food. I was seated and provided with two menus. I immediately asked for a happy hour menu and then I waited for about 15 minutes, until I followed up with another waiter who brought out the menu for me. For the happy hour menu before I received my food I initially thought the prices were good, but upon receiving my food it was evident that the prices are off in terms of the portion size of the food. I ordered a $5 slider. I thought it would be a decent size. It was incredibly small. For the $5 price they should give at minimum 2 sliders but ideally 3. This would incentivize people to buy more. The slider was the best thing I tasted while there and I would have liked more but I couldn't justify spending another $5 when it was so tiny. The tiny slider appeared to be the portion size for a toddler. I ordered calamari which was $9. I was initially disappointed that there was such a small amount. I was even more disappointed when I tasted them. They tasted very "fishy." They absolutely needed a squeeze of lemon and fresh cracked black pepper to try and balance and mask the taste. I believe the portion size for the fries was also off for $5. The fries came in a teacup. Fries are something that people tend to order to have something to pick at while dining and it would make sense I think to provide more fries for the same price. I also could not justify getting another set of fries in a small teacup for $5. I did not like the taste of the fries. When the sparse calamari, tiny beef slider, and small teacup of fries came out, I realized I would not be full and ordered chicken wings from the happy hour menu. You have to get a minimum of 6. You cannot mix the flavors. They were out of the dockside fire sauce so I went with the garlic parm. These wings did not taste like garlic parm. The garlic parm seemed like an afterthought, which was just sprinkled on the wings at the very end. The chicken itself did not have much flavor. They did not mention providing any dipping sauce. I asked for blue cheese and I had to wait for about ten minutes and then remind another waiter that I was still waiting for my blue cheese. They were out of the mozzarella sticks. Moving onto the drinks. While I get being outside and maybe wanting to serve drinks in plastic to minimize glassware breaking, I did not enjoy being served Pinot Noir in a plastic cup or the white cranberry lemon drop in a plastic cup. Each time I was taken aback that they weren't offered in glassware. I got the $7 Pinot Noir from the happy hour menu. A regular glass of Pinot Noir is $9. I also ordered the white cranberry lemon drop which is priced at $12 and is not included on the happy hour menu. The drink came out in the same sized small plastic cup as the Pinot Noir. I think once again that glassware should be used. When ordering a lemon drop you tend to expect a chilled frosty glass with a sugar rim, and that was not what I received here. I think the sugar rim would have elevated the taste profile of the drink. All in all, I really liked the outdoor area. I would probably only return to get a canned beer in the outside section. I hope they start to carry some sour beer options. I do not see myself trying the food again, with the exception of a burger (since the burger was really good.) I did have an inquiry regarding the pre-authorization charge and the final charge that I saw on my credit card. I called and left a message and the restaurant got back to me quickly, which I really appreciated.

We were told that they were closed due to the event so the wife went to use the restroom before we left. While waiting, I started talking to a very friendly guy named Joe about the Knicks. Funny enough, he turned out to be the owner. When the wife came out, I asked if we could just have one drink at the bar since we came all the way out there, and Joe told the bartender "Let these two sit and order some drinks".
