Arroz con Guandules

I have had Barrio BX bookmarked for a while. We were in the area and found parking spot so we decided to go in. We were seated quickly and our drinks came out pretty fast. No complaints at all on the drinks. FOOD: The food was amazing portion size was great and sharable depending on how much you eat. BACALAITOS: I love bacalaitos, they were served kinda like a pizza so we were a bit hesitant to taste them. So happy we got them, They were so good! Definitely a must try. SORULLITOS: We loved these just like Puerto Rico PERNIL: We loved the peril it was cooked to perfection, great portion. The Arroz Con Gandules was also really good. BISTEC Sandwich: The steak was cooked to perfection. Tostones with garlic sauce was so good. The restaurant did start to get a bit crowded around 6pm overall a great atmosphere with a DJ great drinks and even better food.

Was helping a friend in the area. They recommended this place based on someone telling them that the food was good. The food is very good! We happened to be there during lunch "special time". We chose the Criolla salad and rellenos de pap for appetizers. Salad was amazing, with baby greens, red onions and avocado. We chose the bacalao stew and the shrimp stew, with white rice and pink beans. The red peppers and onions sautéed insid the codfish and shrimp dish's, were fresh and you could feel the crunch. The general manager/host greeted us with a warm yet professional welcome. The Latin music playing in the background was perfect. The seating was comfy. Our server, Rafael was on point. He gave clear descriptions of all the foods we asked about. This place is worth the trip from Brooklyn! I will be back!

First time visiting the new space in Castle Hill after frequenting visits at the Throggs Neck location. I miss them being so close to home but I am happy to say that they have continued cooking good food and serving yummy drinks. The volume of the music can get a bit overwhelming so if thats not for you come visit weekdays and off peak hours. The new place is much bigger and open. Lots of natural light. The service is straightforward and warm. Staff is always eager to answer any questions. The fact that I was able to recognize staff from the Throggs Neck location leads me to believe that employees truly enjoy working there. Kudos to the management for creating an environment like that. At times the food has been slightly over salted on my past visits .... But this last visit everything was perfect. I also noticed that the pernil portion seemed smaller than in the past. I cant wait to visit them again!

My friend raves about this place and both him and his husband say this is their go to spot for brunch. Yesterday they invited me to brunch and I honestly went for the French toast that my friend cant get enough of. When we arrived there was live music and there was a lot of people. The hostesses took a moment to get it together however once we were seated our waitress was on point. When the live musicians were not playing the dj played early 2000s R&B and Regetton. Now my friend did not lie the coquito French toast is the reason to go. I personally do NOT like coquito but this French toast is some of the best I have had at a brunch. Honestly all of the food was hot, fresh, and delicious and the portions were huge. I could not finish all my food. While my friend loves the rum punch I was not impressed. You could taste the strong cheap liquor. That may be a plus for some but honestly with the good comfort food I eat I did not need any alcohol. I liked the food enough I would go and even do takeout.

Authentic Puerto Rican food. Great customer service. Drinks are very strong. It's a small restaurant and there are always events every weekend.

I've been to Barrio BX a few times for brunch and it never disappoints. The food is delicious, we get the picadera platter, a d ide of alcapurrias ro start plus a meal. The bottomless brunch options are mimosa, white or red sangria or rum rumner. The service is on point. The service team is always checking up on us whether they are waiting our table or not and they keep topping off our drinks! The Dj is amazing he plays all types of music making the ambiance spectacular.

Poor managerial skills!!!!Went with my wife to celebrate her mom 81birthday.That D j we ask for a Table in the back .They told us to wait 15 minutes as we waited,A manager came and told us they had party of 40 people and could not accommodate us.First of all they said they do not take reservations. The way we were approached was hostile and disrespectful. This a celebration that we do not know if we will have the opportunity to celebrate again!!!!We will never visit this place again!!!!!Party of six treated like this!!!!

Food wasn't all that good and ambiance was off. Service was decent and drinks weren't good.

Always a great vibe, a great time, and the food is AWESOME! The drinks are on point, and great music! The chicharrón de pollo sin hueso! Yo, it is perfection, crunchy, juicy, and a good sized portion. Los tostones, que delicioso. The servers are attentive and friendly and check in often to make sure all is well.

Food was delicious, drinks were spot on, ambiance and music brought it all together! Large group and everyone was satisfied. Try the Coquito French toast!

I was referred by the employees at the facility I work at to go here because that's where they got lunch for the minors today. When I entered the restaurant no one greeted me and only two tables at the time were occupied, fist thing I said was hello I would like to order Togo please the girl who finally came over (still not saying welcome how may I help you) repeats to me so you want to order to go? I say yes, now I just came back to thr hotel to eat because it does smell good but I ordered white rice and red beans, the beans are so watery it's not even funny now the food doesn't taste bad but nothing special and the service is subpar.

If you really think about it the Dominican food has taken over the Bx. I searched, and found this place. The moment you step in you are greeted with the warmest blessings. The 2 beautiful people that worked there made our time there so memorable. The food was out of this world let me tell you. Also, I will say it is AFFORDABLE. portion size was huge and the place was so CLEAN. Food: Pernil: 10/10 flavorful and tender Yellow (arroz con gandules) and Black rice with the beans: 10/10 both were good and couldn't even decide which one was better Pulpo 9/10 : fresh and tangy, cut into small pieces so you can top it on your rice Alcapurrias: 8/10 great and made differently then what I'm used to but it was sooo good I'd come again for this alone Juices: Ask them to try the juices and they will let you. We tried it all. Came home with passion fruit (parcha) and guyaba (guanabana) Delicious 10/10 It was so fresh and they don't add too much ice so you get all the juice taste. All in all I'm coming here from now on. A true BX staple for the community and a true essence of the Bori pride resides here. If you miss PR, come here.

They also have a lot of variety so I plan on trying something new next time. The lady working there said that sometimes they make guanimes (some people call them guanimos) which I have never been able to find outside of PR. I hope I get to try them at this place. So glad I found this spot and recommend you all check it out.

I hope you washed your hands because he will scoop a sample right into your palm. Chef Jimenez will tell you his life story while waving his machete and smoking a blunt. Nothing seems off limits here because you have somehow, in a matter of minutes, become nothing less than family. At $22 a plate, with rice and peas, a very generous serving of lechon and topped with a green banana, you'll walk away with a full stomach and a warmed heart. The unpredictable nature of this means you can't come wanting to control time or have an efficient food pickup. If you want that go to Cuchifritos in East Harlem. First, the customer service was excellent--the host was friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The space itself is very small, about 9-10 tables total, but gave you that eating with your family vibe, talking at the table and listening to spanish music. The bathroom was clean but it had a shower, which was definitely... different. Now for the food. I ordered the fried red snapper with yellow rice and pigeon peas, salad and unfortunately it had no flavor at all. The rice was dry and tasted like there was no sofrito or seasoning, which was disappointing for a Puerto Rican spot. My sister's pork chops were actually very good--probably the highlight of the meal. They also don't serve alcohol, so I had a Coco Rico while my sister had water. Overall, while the service was great, the food didn't live up to the hype for me. I expected bold, authentic Puerto Rican flavors, and it just wasn't there. Also, I wish they offered plain Yellow Spanish Rice as well as white rice options. I'm glad I tried it, but I won't be returning. If you go, try the pork chops--that's your best bet. And if you're really looking for authentic Puerto Rican food, you're better off heading to Sofrito in Manhattan or grabbing cuchifritos uptown--they don't miss.

The food was fantastic and the portions were huge -- seriously, two or three people could've eaten from my plate alone. I ordered the pernil with rice and beans, plus a variety appetizer platter. The pork was juicy (though I do wish the skin was a little crispier), the beans were flavorful, and both the garlic and chimichurri sauces were top-notch. The potato salad was okay, but overall, the meal delivered big flavor and big portions. Since it was my birthday, the team surprised me with a birthday flan and tres leches dessert plate that the restaurant provided. It was the perfect ending -- sweet, creamy, and delicious. The birthday celebration itself was incredible; you truly feel like a superstar. Between the LED signs, the DJ shoutouts, and your name flashing across the booth screen, the energy was unmatched. The drinks were just okay, nothing to write home about, but they got the job done. The only other downsides were the limited parking (especially at night) and the two-hour time limit for our party of ten. Still, it was a fantastic night overall.
