Was visiting New York from Chicago and dropped into Barrio randomly. What a great spot for weekend brunch. Live dj, great bartenders and eats. Street park Dj Rob-Lo was spinning latin and house beats in a Sunday afternoon. The music was a fun vibe making many butts move in their seats. Bartender and service were amazing, very attentive and prompt. Samantha helped us pick out food and was super nice.she recommended the bottomless drinks for brunch 90 min unlimited all you can drink sangria, mimosas or rum punch. The rum punch was tasty and she kept us topped off. Finally the food was on another level. Got the Arepa and Tripleta both were quality portions were pretty big and season perfectly. Side of yuka frita was great and perfectly seasoned. If you are visiting or simply looking for a fun time or a great bite you should give Barrio a try you wont regret it. read more

I went to meet a woman on a first date the place was recommended by her so we decided we were going to meet at 6. Ok I get there at 5:55 PM I didn't see my date yet so I tell the girl behind the counter that I'd like to be seated and they said they couldn't seat me until the other party arrives which is something I've never heard of so I was standing there like an idiot for about 15 to 20 minutes my date finally shows up and we get seated all the way in the back next to 3 loudmouths so loud that I couldn't hear myself talk the music was blasting so loud I couldn't even hear myself talk date talking. The food arrived quickly and the food was delicious I will give them that but the rest of the experience was terrible I will not be going back there ever again. read more

Came to Saturday brunch yesterday and had a great time and experience. It was my first time at the castle hill location. I went a few times at the tremont location. It's def an upgrade and more spacious. They decorated it nicely. Music and food were great. So were the drinks. I especially loved the flan and my pina colada. Service was good also. Attentive service, gracious happy hour, lively decor and music, and menu variety make Barrio BX a fun time. Bartenders and servers were quick, attentive and friendly. I have had Barrio BX bookmarked for a while. We were in the area and found parking spot so we decided to go in. We were seated quickly and our drinks came out pretty fast. No complaints at all on the drinks. FOOD: The food was amazing portion size was great and sharable depending on how much you eat. BACALAITOS: I love bacalaitos, they were served kinda like a pizza so we were a bit hesitant to taste them. So happy we got them, They were so good! Definitely a must try. SORULLITOS: We loved these just like Puerto Rico PERNIL: We loved the peril it was cooked to perfection, great portion. The Arroz Con Gandules was also really good. BISTEC Sandwich: The steak was cooked to perfection. Tostones with garlic sauce was so good. The restaurant did start to get a bit crowded around 6pm overall a great atmosphere with a DJ great drinks and even better food. read more

I just realized I left a 4 star review last time and had to change that. This establishment is incredible. The vibes, the music (you wont be able to keep from dancing even if only in your chair), OMG the FOOOOOOOODDDD obsessed I swear, delicious every dish Ive had but my favs are the shrimp empanadas, the penil and holy crap the Coquito French Toast with the rum punch for bottomless brunch !!!! I cant tell you how many times Ive been here in the last year alone. I take everyone here LOL. Also this place has events and is also a big part of the community which I love. read more

Was helping a friend in the area. They recommended this place based on someone telling them that the food was good. The food is very good! We happened to be there during lunch "special time". We chose the Criolla salad and rellenos de pap for appetizers. Salad was amazing, with baby greens, red onions and avocado. We chose the bacalao stew and the shrimp stew, with white rice and pink beans. The red peppers and onions sautéed insid the codfish and shrimp dish's, were fresh and you could feel the crunch. The general manager/host greeted us with a warm yet professional welcome. The Latin music playing in the background was perfect. The seating was comfy. Our server, Rafael was on point. First time visiting the new space in Castle Hill after frequenting visits at the Throggs Neck location. I miss them being so close to home but I am happy to say that they have continued cooking good food and serving yummy drinks. The volume of the music can get a bit overwhelming so if thats not for you come visit weekdays and off peak hours. The new place is much bigger and open. Lots of natural light. The service is straightforward and warm. Staff is always eager to answer any questions. The fact that I was able to recognize staff from the Throggs Neck location leads me to believe that employees truly enjoy working there. Kudos to the management for creating an environment like that. At times the food has been slightly over salted on my past visits .... But this last visit everything was perfect. I also noticed that the pernil portion seemed smaller than in the past. My friend raves about this place and both him and his husband say this is their go to spot for brunch. Yesterday they invited me to brunch and I honestly went for the French toast that my friend cant get enough of. When we arrived there was live music and there was a lot of people. The hostesses took a moment to get it together however once we were seated our waitress was on point. When the live musicians were not playing the dj played early 2000s R&B and Regetton. Now my friend did not lie the coquito French toast is the reason to go. I personally do NOT like coquito but this French toast is some of the best I have had at a brunch. Honestly all of the food was hot, fresh, and delicious and the portions were huge. I could not finish all my food. While my friend loves the rum punch I was not impressed. You could taste the strong cheap liquor. That may be a plus for some but honestly with the good comfort food I eat I did not need any alcohol. So good, we went back the following day. I saw this spot featured on a social media short and decided to check it out. The first night, my girlfriend and I tried the mofongo with Chicharrón de cerdo. I need to say, this was one of the most tastiest mofongo's I've had in ages. I didn't inquire, but i got the impression that the gravy they used was something made specifically for the dish and not the sauce from another stew like most places do. The fried pork chunks were seasoned well and delish. The following day, we decided to go for brunch. My girlfriend had the tres golpes (mangu with fried salami, fried cheese and fried egg) and a mimosa. I tried the Coquito French Toast with fried chicken chunks. I left nothing on that plate. Both dishes were amazing and generously portioned. The staff there are friendly and pretty on point, considering there was only one server on the floor both days. And the wait for our meals were reasonable. We also loved the atmosphere with the Borikén-inspired murals and artwork and salsa playing in the background and patrons genuinely enjoying themselves. My mom who's from PR was so satisfied with her meal as was I. But it goes to show how good the food is I had the Chicharron Sin hueso and they were so delicious. Crispy yet soft and full of flavor, the Madurros (sweet plantains) were perfect. Soft and sweet! Try way they're supposed to be. Avocado slices were nice and creamy. The Pernil was so delicious and flavorful and tender. Arroz con Gandules were hitting with authenticity and the flan was incredibly packed with flavor! The service was on point. Servers were attentive, helpful and accommodating. The venue is a mix of a Restaurant/Sports Bar/Lounge. Very big on Puerto Rican pride and heritage. You can sit at a table and enjoy your meal there or you can sit at the fully stocked bar and munch while watching some sports. There's usually have a DJ spinning a mix of festive music: Hip Hop, R&B, Reggaeton, Salsa, Freestyle, Classic house.. And people enjoy it.. I do love r&b and hip hop but then they switched to a bunch of reggaeton and was hoping to hear some salsa and merengue/bachata.
