Wow, what a awesome spot. Definitely a neighborhood classic, most seem like regulars. Menu is mostly in Spanish, so definitely do a bit of research before coming, or (like us) just ask the super friendly staff. There's plenty of seating, including some counter seating. We got the mofongo, and this was one of the best things I've ever had. Never had Puerto Rican food before, but the mixture of dense plantains was so flavorful, and somehow not dry despite it looking otherwise. Alongside the plate of chicharron we got, and wonderful combo. The chicharron was unbelievably crunchy, super juicy, not overally fatty, and the flavor was on point. The cassava it came with was also cooked really well, but we honestly had enough carby food on the table. Prices are elite, and you get a boatload of food (we had probably half the mofongo leftover for 2 people). Definitely make your way here, you won't regret it! read more

The ladies here are so boss and sweet as my gal indulged my half slapped together Spanish. She told me I might as well order the cuchifritos plate since I wanted all the parts of the pig head and I said perfect. Also alcapurria and morcilla. And the morir sonando- which she spent 10 minutes in the back making. Authentic stewed and fried animal parts topped with picked red onions. Plus Puerto Rican and Dominican ways of Cooking and Seasonings- differ quite a bit. I grew up coming here, I travel across the country to stop here first. Though after this last visit I'm sure I'll never return. There was two woman and a man behind the counter. I waited 15 mins in front of them, while they continued to skip over me. When I finally had enough and said something the lady was like I have to take these men first then you. Like what the hell is that!!! I said I've been here for 15 mins and they literally just walked in. She continued to argue that she had to take care of them first and then me. My friends brought me up to Fordham Bronx one day so i can experience "the hood". We ate at Cuchifrito's. It looks like a dingy place from the outside but it's not that bad inside. It was busy on a Sunday sometime between lunch and dinner, when most other places would be slowing down. We sat at the counter and our Spanish speaking friend ordered for us. I got rice and beans, a beef empanada, and shared an order of pork chops with my friend. It was really good and they give a lot. They also have a few aguas Frescas. They're open late because my friends said they'd been here late at night after drinking. And apparently it's a date spot because one of them had brought a date here. The service was not especially friendly probably because we don't speak Spanish. We ordered chicken and roast pork and they gave us chicken and steak with onions. We didn't want to argue so we just ate it and ordered some chicharrone on the side cause we really wanted some pork. We also got one relleno de papa, got two drinks, two rice puddings (which they had to open the lid and look at for some reason (which made me worried that they might be old)). I stop here occasionally for lunch because of the cheap prices and delicious food. If you are on Fordham and want authentic food this is definitely the place to go. I especially like their plantains with meat and cheese. Avoid this place during peak hours because everyone and their mom heads here and there is no structure for a line and rather its a hungry crowd of people pushing to the front.
