Wow, what a awesome spot. Definitely a neighborhood classic, most seem like regulars. Menu is mostly in Spanish, so definitely do a bit of research before coming, or (like us) just ask the super friendly staff. There's plenty of seating, including some counter seating. We got the mofongo, and this was one of the best things I've ever had. Never had Puerto Rican food before, but the mixture of dense plantains was so flavorful, and somehow not dry despite it looking otherwise. Alongside the plate of chicharron we got, and wonderful combo. The chicharron was unbelievably crunchy, super juicy, not overally fatty, and the flavor was on point. The cassava it came with was also cooked really well, but we honestly had enough carby food on the table. Prices are elite, and you get a boatload of food (we had probably half the mofongo leftover for 2 people). Definitely make your way here, you won't regret it!

Always really great food and really great service. Lines get long but move fast. Customer service is top tier. This has been a staple to the hood forever! I still love them like I did when I was a child. Fresh selections and great prices. If you haven't tried you must try it!

When you say mofongo, I say "Go to the Bronx". That's the only way you're going to get this Puerto Rican classic dish. And the tricky thing about mofongo is you have to eat it right away after pouring the gravy on it, otherwise it's just mushy goop. But enough food facts storytelling. Growing up in the Bronx, I was blessed with the opportunity to have authentic affordable Spanish food: Dominican, Puerto Rican, El Salvador, Columbian and Mexican. This place is your typical neighborhood diner when growing up in the Fordham Bronx area. I would come here after school and get my yuccas, sweet banana plantains and rice and beans combo. The restaurant is in fact small with their stools at the counter dining style. But their takeout service is quick and right to the point. Food is amazing and no other neighborhood in New York City offers Puerto Rican cuisine like here. A must pit stop if you ever visit the Bronx Botanical Gardens.

Busy busy busy Rushed service Know what you want and check the order before you leave. Have some understanding of Bronx style Latin dialects as this will speed up your service. Prices are excellent and food is better then most Cuchifritos. Morcilla is my go to!! You can sit and enjoy a true Bronx experience here or sit in your car double parked like I do taking pictures of whoever grabs my attention Enjoy Pastele are also excellent

Beware. make sure to check your food . Found a dead fly in my pastelito . Spoke to the person behind the register and refused to give me a refund.

The ladies here are so boss and sweet as my gal indulged my half slapped together Spanish. She told me I might as well order the cuchifritos plate since I wanted all the parts of the pig head and I said perfect. Also alcapurria and morcilla. And the morir sonando- which she spent 10 minutes in the back making. Authentic stewed and fried animal parts topped with picked red onions. A bit heavy on the ear and pliable chewy textures (even for me!) but all in all such a cool Experience to be had again. It's all locals here.

I'm definitely not a Cuchifrito fan. Yeah....I guess I can get by with Cod Fish, Yuca or other Root Vegetable Side dish- but between the steam, meat and pork smells all around, poor ventilation system all Cuchifrito's have- plus me smelling like food after, it's enough for me to seriously keep out. But hubby is Puerto Rican and grew up eating at cuchifritos. He decided on a Lunch pickup for us and eat in the car while we waited for our names to be called to do our taxes. Really don't know what the place looks like- but hubby went all in for a Morcilla (Blood Sausage), 2 Alcapurrias (made of Green Plantains & Yautia Stuffed W/ Meat then fried- which he liked) and a Bacalaito (Cod Fish Fritter). I just settled on Yuca with Onions. Honestly, I'm so damn picky about Cod Fish Fritters- I can't eat them from just anybody. Plus Puerto Rican and Dominican ways of Cooking and Seasonings- differ quite a bit. According to hubby, one bite of the Morcilla- threw him off and trashed the entire thing, the Cod Fish Fritter- was just like I imagined and still drenching in oil- ewwww. Yuca? Well...you can't mess up boiled Root Vegetables with Onions in Vinegar and Oil (can you?). Even my Passion Fruit Juice was watered down. Why??? Good try. But nahhh. Hubby hasn't eaten at a cuchifritos in ages and not even sure if he needs to back off from the stuff he grew up on. But listen- other folks love this place and has 4 stars for a reason.

My first Anthony Bourdain moment which made me really happy and sad all at the same time . Environment ; it was overall what I expected except that it had no AC Everything was very good especially with a cold beer but it is still nothing like it would be at home or in Puerto Rico . The only true disappointment was that , I tried the pastel ( I took this to go) and it was made of chicharron and I mean pieces with skin, fat( big fat chunks ; no pun intended ) and alittle meat ; I have never had it this way and I hope I never do again

I couldn't stop drinking the Morrir Sonando. Best I've ever had!! The cuchifritos were out of this world.

We ordered the appetizer wings (approx 7 wingettes) They were deliciously crunchy with a delicious mango sauce. My daughter ordered the skirt steak. It was bland. I ordered the red snapper $42, very bland. I paid to try the mango sauce and chilli sauce neither helped. The rice and tostones were good. The Alchemist drink was a nice experience and flavorful. Overall the appetizers and drinks were great everything else not so good.

If I could give this place zero stars, I would. From the moment we walked in, the experience was…read moredisappointing. There was no host or hostess present to greet us or manage seating. We stood there confused, eventually trying to find a table ourselves. Since no one was assisting us and there were no open tables available, we sat at the bar. My friend continued waiting and trying to secure a table, but there was no communication from staff. To make matters worse, another group arrived after us and was seated before us. They mentioned they had been there before, and it felt like they were given priority while we were overlooked, despite waiting longer. Service at the bar was equally frustrating. The bartender was inattentive and focused only on certain sections. It took about 10 to 15 minutes just to get a simple glass of wine. We had to repeat our orders multiple times, which should have been a red flag. The appetizer, Korean wings, arrived quickly and was probably the only positive part of the evening. After that, everything went downhill. Our entrees took an extremely long time to arrive. It felt like nearly two hours. When the food finally came out, one of my friends did not receive her meal at all because the bartender forgot to put in her order. This was especially frustrating since we had repeated the order several times. When her dish, the pad Thai, finally arrived about 30 minutes later, it was mediocre at best and slightly cold. The steaks ordered by two of us were dry and under-seasoned. The vegetables were overcooked and bland. Overall, the food quality did not justify the long wait or the price. The bathrooms were another major issue. There was toilet paper on the floor and even period blood visible on the ground. It was unsanitary and honestly shocking. Cleanliness is the bare minimum for any establishment. The final bill came to $245, including an automatic $34 gratuity at the bar. Considering the service we received, this felt completely undeserved. There was no acknowledgment of the forgotten order and no attempt to make things right. As a final note, be cautious if you're wearing delicate or expensive clothing. The bar counter area has rough edges, and one of my friend's jerseys was snagged while we were sitting there. This was my first time here, and it will absolutely be my last. Between the poor service, mediocre food, lack of cleanliness, and high prices, I cannot recommend this place to anyone.

The cheese sticks are a must when you visit. They are perfectly breaded, fried golden, crispy on the outside and melty on the inside. They come out hot, stretchy, and exactly what you want late at night. Their empanadas? Fire. The beef is juicy and packed with flavor, the chicken one is tender and well-seasoned, and that pink sauce... yeah, that sauce is elite. Creamy, tangy, with just enough kick to make you keep dipping until it's gone. I also ordered the chicken cachapa -- soft, slightly sweet corn pancake, stuffed generously and cooked just right. It's comforting, filling, and hits different when you're craving something authentic. Also on a late night on Dyckman, doesn't get better than this. The juices are fresh and refreshing, the perfect balance to everything savory. Service is quick and straight to the point, exactly what you need whether you're grabbing takeout or sliding into one of the small tables to eat in. The spot itself is small and cozy, no-frills, real neighborhood vibes all day. Overall, this is a classic Dyckman late-night Venezuelan staple. Great food, quick service, and flavors that always come through. If you know, you know.
