If you really think about it the Dominican food has taken over the Bx. I searched, and found this place. The moment you step in you are greeted with the warmest blessings. The 2 beautiful people that worked there made our time there so memorable. The food was out of this world let me tell you. Also, I will say it is AFFORDABLE. portion size was huge and the place was so CLEAN. Food: Pernil: 10/10 flavorful and tender Yellow (arroz con gandules) and Black rice with the beans: 10/10 both were good and couldn't even decide which one was better Pulpo 9/10 : fresh and tangy, cut into small pieces so you can top it on your rice Alcapurrias: 8/10 great and made differently then what I'm used to but it was sooo good I'd come again for this alone Juices: Ask them to try the juices and they will let you. We tried it all. Came home with passion fruit (parcha) and guyaba (guanabana) Delicious 10/10 It was so fresh and they don't add too much ice so you get all the juice taste. All in all I'm coming here from now on. A true BX staple for the community and a true essence of the Bori pride resides here. If you miss PR, come here.

Rice was the way I like it - soft, not too oily, flavorful. I will go back with my bf who was born and raised in PR to see what he thinks, but I'm already a fan. They also have a lot of variety so I plan on trying something new next time. The lady working there said that sometimes they make guanimes (some people call them guanimos) which I have never been able to find outside of PR. I hope I get to try them at this place. So glad I found this spot and recommend you all check it out.

He is very energetic and has a very welcoming persona. He has been serving lechon for over 30 years and you can see why it's been a hit. He sells 3 items. Lechon(pork) with rice&beans. Coconut shrimp and chicken empanadas. He gives out samples of all his food so don't be afraid to try it before you buy it. Make sure you have cash and it is a cash only spot. Everything is $20 per plate expect the empanadas I believe those were $3 each. The pork itself was fall off the bone tender. For me I just couldn't eat it all. This was one of those dishes that I got tired of eating. Maybe it was the amount of garlic he adds over it was overwhelming. The shrimp had a great flavor but we're cold. Same with the chicken empanadas. For spending $70 the only item that was hot was the pork. Lechon(pork) 6/10 Shrimp 6/10 Empanadas 6/10

The line felt like a party with the guy on a scooter handing out 190 proof vodka to the guests. When you finally make your way into the truck be prepared to be greeted with warmth and a chunk of lechon right into your hand. Want to try the pulpo (octopus salad)? I hope you washed your hands because he will scoop a sample right into your palm. Chef Jimenez will tell you his life story while waving his machete and smoking a blunt. Nothing seems off limits here because you have somehow, in a matter of minutes, become nothing less than family. At $22 a plate, with rice and peas, a very generous serving of lechon and topped with a green banana, you'll walk away with a full stomach and a warmed heart. The unpredictable nature of this means you can't come wanting to control time or have an efficient food pickup. If you want that go to Cuchifritos in East Harlem. The rice and peas were a little burnt tasting but who cares? It was a party in the middle of the Bronx and more memorable than any food truck I've been to.

Some of the dishes are named after family members, which I thought was lovely, and there are family portraits all over the restaurant. It really felt like we were transported to someone's living room! I was chatting with a fellow diner at the table next to me, and we were raving about how comfortable and at home we felt. The chef Frances Roman also took the time to check in on each table and the people waiting outside the restaurant to see how they were enjoying the food and if they had any questions. The hospitality here is top tier! I ordered the bacalitos to start, which are cod fish fritters. They were nice and crispy. The sauce it came with really enhanced the flavor! I also ordered the guava and cheese pastelillos. Both pastelillos were also crisped to perfection. For my main dish, I had The Rican sandwich, which is a nice twist on the Cuban sandwich. The sandwich is made with pernil, Swiss, pickled onions, and the chef's own special garlic mayo sauce. It was absolutely delicious!! Cocotazo also has freshly, homemade juices. I recommend the Chi Chi Rodriguez, which is a mix of tamarind and passion fruit. It's not overly sweet. If you'd like to try the main dishes, I do recommend arriving hungry! The portions are super generous, and you will leave with happy and full bellies.

The calamari and the beef empanadas were decent for the appetizers. I didn't love the pork chunks, they seemed over cooked. For my meal, I ordered the steak and eggs. There's a $7 upcharge for skirt steak, which I picked. I asked for my steak medium, and it was much closer to medium well and well done. The steak itself was juicy and flavorful, and the chimuchurri really helped. The potatoes were soft and not seasoned well, could've used some more time on the stove. I asked for my eggs to be fried and it came out weirdly made. Only took a bite and then left it. We did have bottomless drinks but the service on that was slow and not consistent. I had 2 mimosas in the entire 90 minutes, and I had to flag down a staff member to even get my 2nd one. It is a loud restaurant with music playing, but I guess that sets the mood and ambiance. They are strict with the table limits and will ask you to leave after paying.

This place holds a lot of nostalgia for us--we actually celebrated our wedding after-party at this same location 19 years ago (back when it was a rented venue), so coming back felt really special. Booking through Resy was super easy, and even when we had to push our reservation back by 30 minutes, it was handled smoothly. From the moment we arrived, everything started off on a positive note. The valet was friendly and efficient ($20, which is pretty reasonable), and the hostess welcomed us warmly. Once inside, the vibe immediately stood out--there's a lively bar area and a beautiful waterfront view that really sets the tone. We were seated in a comfortable booth (perfect for our kids), and everything felt cozy yet vibrant. The bathrooms deserve a quick shoutout--clean, fresh-smelling, and even had an attendant offering napkins and lotions, which added a nice old-school touch. We started with drinks (Pinot Grigio for me, seltzer with cranberry for my husband, and sodas for the kids), then moved on to appetizers: chicharrón de pollo and empanadas. Everything was beautifully presented and photo-worthy. Our server, Nicholas, truly made the night special. He was personable, attentive, and went out of his way to congratulate us on our anniversary. He recommended the skirt steak with shrimp, rice, and beans--and that ended up being the highlight of the meal. The steak was absolutely delicious. My husband had the half chicken with rice and beans, my daughter happily stuck to her favorites (mashed potatoes, fries, and chicharrón), and my son enjoyed his burger. The food came out quickly, and we had a great time just relaxing, laughing, and enjoying the atmosphere. By sunset, the ambiance shifted beautifully--candles lit, music flowing (lots of salsa and Spanish classics), and just an overall great vibe. For dessert, we had tres leches, chocolate chiffon cake, and ice cream for the kids--all a perfect ending to the night. Our total came out to about $325 for a family of four, which felt fair for the experience. Why 4 stars instead of 5? The biggest reason is the branding vs. reality. The restaurant promotes itself as authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, but the menu felt more like a mix of Dominican and Puerto Rican (overall Spanish cuisine). Not a bad thing at all--but it should be represented more accurately. Also, the rice (both yellow and white) was disappointing--hard, grainy, and not what you'd expect, especially during peak dinner hours. It was the only item we didn't enjoy and didn't even want to take home. That said, everything else from the service to the ambiance to standout dishes like the steak was excellent. We'll definitely be back, this time just the two of us, to explore more of the menu. Thank you to Sofrito and especially Nicholas for making our 19th anniversary feel special and memorable.

I wanted to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday on Saturday, May 16th, and after searching a few places, I settled on Sobro Garden especially after finding out it was one of Jimmy's spots. We celebrated with 30 of our closest family and friends, and it truly became a night he said he'll never forget. Where do I start? Let me begin by saying Sobro Garden, you guys did NOT disappoint!! First and foremost, thank you Jimmy, because when I tell you this man went above and beyond to make everyone feel like family at his establishment, I truly mean it. Jimmy personally checked in with everyone going table to table making sure everyone was enjoying themselves, asking if everything was good from the drinks, atmosphere, music and food was to satisfaction because he genuinely wanted everyone to enjoy and especially told my husband it's a blessing to hit a milestone, celebrating with family and friendsand hope his place made it a memorable one. Jimmy is truly a perfectionist at heart. A host beyond host!! Even taking pictures with everyone. He took several pictures with my husband and even accidentally walked away with his iPhone for a moment & my husband allow his too he didn't realize it was his phone until I told him. Our maître d', Suhaily, was such a beautiful soul inside and out. She made the entire booking process for my husband's event feel effortless. She guided me step by step, helped choice a menu plan, stayed in communication the whole time and was so patient, kind and welcoming the moment I arrived. Her smile and warm hearted present made the experience even better. She greeted me as if we knew each other for years and our waitress and waiter? Absolutely AMAZING. My husband, our guests and I were attended to with such PRISTINE EXCELLENCE all night long. Now let's talk about the FOOD... because BABY!!! Everything was DELICIOUS. I can't even single out one item because every dish hit the spot. Everyone at our tables ordered something different, so we all got to taste a little bit of everything from the pernil, steak & onions, grilled salmon, chicken, arroz con gandules, fried fish, steak skewers and BABY... those famous Crack Wings Rub had everybody wanting to eat their fingers To top it all off, the highlight of the night was seeing Melle Mel celebrating his birthday from the day before and actor Darrin Henson, so handsome in person was also in the building. Both were so down-to-earth and when Melle Mel grabbed the mic, he absolutely brought the house down!! Thank you again to EVERYONE at Sobro Garden for making my husband's 50th birthday celebration such an UNFORGETTABLE Experience. We will DEFINITELY be Back!

The cheese sticks are a must when you visit. They are perfectly breaded, fried golden, crispy on the outside and melty on the inside. The beef is juicy and packed with flavor, the chicken one is tender and well-seasoned, and that pink sauce... yeah, that sauce is elite. Creamy, tangy, with just enough kick to make you keep dipping until it's gone. I also ordered the chicken cachapa -- soft, slightly sweet corn pancake, stuffed generously and cooked just right. It's comforting, filling, and hits different when you're craving something authentic. Also on a late night on Dyckman, doesn't get better than this. The juices are fresh and refreshing, the perfect balance to everything savory. Service is quick and straight to the point, exactly what you need whether you're grabbing takeout or sliding into one of the small tables to eat in. The spot itself is small and cozy, no-frills, real neighborhood vibes all day. Overall, this is a classic Dyckman late-night Venezuelan staple.
