Four of us girl cousins came here on a Thursday night for dinner before our cross-Tennessee road trip. We were seated quickly despite the bustling crowd and settled into a lovely, warm booth near the bar. ALWAYS sit near the bar. My cousins MB and BL had been here before, so they offered insights into what was good. I scoured the delicious-sounding menu - with a surprising number of Greek dishes - and settled on the Crab-Stuffed Grouper special. Be advised, the list of available side items rivals many restaurants' main menu! I selected the veggie of the day which turned out to be light, crispy fried eggplant on sauce topped with fresh parm.Honestly, I've never in my life had eggplant melt in my mouth like that. I could easily have eaten an entire plate of it. The stuffed grouper was not quite as successful. The grouper was overcooked and the crab cake stuffing was what I've learned to expect outside of Baltimore. Shredded crab and a cat food texture, although the flavor was quite good. Overall it was a solid three stars. Service did nothing to bump that up beyond average, however, but we did have a good time. read more

We had a lovely time and the food was delicious, until the bill came. My husband ordered the Ribeye. The waiter asked him if he wanted the bone-in or bone-out ribeye, without explaining that bone-in was $30 more. We've gone to many a steakhouse and never had been confronted with the difference between a cowboy ribeye $89 and a regular ribeye $55, was whether or not it contained a bone. This put a damper on an otherwise good meal. We asked our waiter and he just said, "yeah, that's why I asked bone-in or bone-out." Which really wasn't an explanation. We promptly paid our bill and left with a bad taste in our mouths. Won't be making that mistake again! read more

Jim's Place is a good distance from my downtown Memphis home-over 40 min drive. But I will make the trip to Collierville periodically just to eat there. The food, no matter what yo get is excellent. Service is efficient, professional & friendly. Atmosphere is classy, yet comfortable & relaxed. Menu has a lot to please anyone. Stuffed shrimp, lamb chops, moussaka are favorites. I was surprised to read hardly any reviews mentioning Jim's Place East's original signature dish:: Souflima ~ pork tenderloin medallions marinated in Jim's secret family spices recipe & grilled. Recipe, to my knowledge, has never been duplicated. From the old country more than a century ago, for sure. The Dining Room's soft lighting & dark finishes made for a cozy & comforting atmosphere on a cold night. At 7:30 when they cranked up Booker T's Green Onions, I felt that familiar MEM STAX vibe again. It was refreshing to hear the buzz of pleasant conversation & see possibly-vacinated? Business associates dining together again. Appletini (aka Green Apple Martini) with Grey Goose hit the spot. Phyllo Puffs App (aka Spanakopeta ~ Greek spinach pie) is my fave comfort food. Yum. Souflima was sublime ~ You should try it! Key Lime Pie was delish. Server Kevin was everywhere & nowhere all at the same time ~ the mark of a professional. & I think the black Zorro masks accenting the dressy black uniforms are just the right safety & fashion accessory. read more

Went last night with friends to celebrate a birthday. Everything from the drinks, appetizers and entrees were excellent! I had the cob salad with fresh blackened gulf shrimp. My wife had the fish special which was fresh gulf grouper encrusted in cheese with the potatoes. Everyone was pleased with the entire experience. read more

We went for our anniversary. They seated us in a corner. As soon as they did, my head stopped up very quickly. It had to have been mold somewhere close to us. When we left my head started to clear up before we got to the door. We ordered steaks which were very dry and tasteless. read more

Jim's Place Grille does a consistently good job. The food is good. The service is excellent. The majority of the waiters have been there for years. The atmosphere is great. (Never too noisy) It is a family business and the owners know there business and work to continuously improve. For those that enjoy time lines, Jim's Place Grille in Collierville has timely and exceptional dining service. Booked Reservation thru website at 8:30pm Arrived on time, seated at 8:33pm The professional expediter ran menus, cutlery and water upon being seated at our hybrid half booth/half table next to the kitchen. They do have a dividing wall to block the view, but you can hear everything. Our Server, Alfred greeted us at our table 8:38pm. I like Alfred. He treated the restaurant like it was his own. When he asked if I liked something and I did, he would thank me as if it were a big deal to him that the kitchen/bar staff got it right, and they did. Ordered drinks at 8:38pm Blue Note Juke Joint Old Fashioned from the special cocktails menu (Alfred tells us the bourbon is distilled in Kentucky, but aged in Memphis, TN.) A locally aged spirit in a locally owned restaurant is a no brainer. Stella Artois on tap Drink Arrival time 8:41pm Blue Note Juke Joint Old Fashioned - For $10, the whiskey tastes pretty good (vanilla/nutmeg), but it's straight bourbon with no hint of bitters or orange zest. I was expecting to be served in an authentic "old fashioned glass" in which the cocktail was named after. You can tell they mixed the mixology lesson with the Blue Note vendor, because for a specialty cocktail, the garnish and presentation are poor, with a soggy cherry and an orange rind sliver at the bottom of the glass. But, it was only $10... and it was local. The Stella Artois on tap, was perfectly chilled and equally as fresh, as if it came out of a bottle, the chilled glass (thank you, Alfred) should be a prerequisite, but very few serve it properly. Their selection is limited, but Jim's Place can deliver a good fresh, cold beer on tap. Ordered Food at 8:43pm Salad arrived at 8:49pm I chose a house salad as one of my two side items with the lamb chops and it was delicious! Jim's Place House Salad dressing is a local favorite. It's like a less chunkier, thinned out version of Thousand Island/vinaigrette on a fresh bed of romaine and arugula. Food arrived 9:15pm Colorado Lamb Chops - Cooked Medium Hashbrowns House Filet - Medium Rare Loaded baked potato Italian Spinach Side of Bèarnaise I recommend to order everything listed to eat with exception to the Italian spinach. It's not bad, but not great. They have a hefty list of other sides to choose from with each entree. The lamb chops are divine and justify the cost. It's worth it. If sharing, order 3. The chops are large and the texture was perfect. The chops were well cooked and the flavor was brilliant. Remember, two sides come with the entrees. The hash browns as a side, yes and trust me. Huge portion, would love to have for brunch and I'd be done. It's mini meal full of flavor. The house filet, cooked perfectly, seasoned well. I would have liked to have had a little more flavor. Overall, great quality and tasty. The loaded baked potato - remember earlier we were by the kitchen and could hear everything... back up 10 Minutes before our food arrives and there is a call out to 86 potatoes. You could hear the panic and groans from the other servers in the kitchen. Luckily, my partner and I were able to receive the last rations of potatoes for the hash browns and his loaded baked potato, which was pretty good. We did watch Alfred break the news to a large group of ladies beside us and he finessed his way through alternatives and it was no big deal. Middle School Mom's Night Out and their obsession with carbs. Alfred did them a favor. Also, we took the pecan pie to go and it heated up well after we got home and added the ice cream. It was good, more nutty than molasses which I liked. The manager came by to ask about our dinner service and was super polite. He seemed genuinely interested to know that we had a great experience. Always a good meal at Jim's place. I got the crab stuffed shrimp and my fiancé got the pork chop. Service was quick and efficient. The food delicious. The side of mushrooms were fabulous. This was one of the few places I visited while being in Memphis! I had a really good experience & the food/drinks was good. I'm giving it a 3 star because I asked for my lamb chop to be "medium" but ended up getting 3 different level of cook temp. One was well done, the other was medium rare & one was just rare. Jim's place is good. They are actual one of the best steak places in Memphis. I gave a four because I haven't experienced the dine-in yet. My take out orders are always packaged well with great flavor in every bite. I've ordered a few times and every time was great. This is a place that I would feel comfortable eating in. Yes this is in a nice part of Memphis. So if you are about anything else, I suggest you go to Outback or Longhorn because Jim's is classy. Since this is America and I have the freedom of speech I would like to say that Jim's gives you an escape from the liberal Memphis anything goes lifestyle. Honestly, one of the best restaurants in Memphis. The food is always spot on. I personally, love the chicken parmesan, and husband likes the lamb. We've had just about everything on the menu and have always had a good meal. Service is good, which is getting harder and harder to find. The owners are almost always there, checking on guests, helping the staff, and making sure everyone is happy. It's a cozy place to get a casual dinner or celebrate a special occasion. read more

Meh! I will be just fine if this place closes down. The restaurant has a nice look and feel but The chairs are uncomfortable. Service was good from the hostess to the waitress. I was shocked when our waitress brought the bread and it was the frozen dinner yeast rolls that I buy from kroger! For a place that is trying to come off as fancy, that is a no no. I ordered a cucumber martini ( based on the waitresses recommendation). DISGUSTING!! The drink tasted like perfume. I couldn't take more than 2 sips. My waitress was nice enough to replace it with a peach martini that wasn't great tasting, but much better than the cucumber. For an appetizer I had the oysters which were a tad bit overcooked but were still tasty and juicy. On to the entree's. My friend ordered the grilled salmon with lemon garlic sauce, rice and turnip greens. I had the florida snapper with lemon sauce, Yukon mashed potatoes and veggie of the day. Both of the dishes had no evidence of sauce. My fish was bland and boring. The mashed potatoes had absolutely no flavor. The best thing about my dinner was the 4 slices of squash/ zucchini. And that's definitely not saying much. I ended up paying about $60 for a very underwhelming meal and experience. I recommend going elsewhere that you can get the quality for the amount of money you are spending. read more
