This place is yummy! There are lots of different options on the menu and the restaurant has a cool design to it. The wait was crazy however! When we arrived at 10:40am, we were told it would take an hour. We were sat at 12pm. I definitely recommend adding yourself to the waitlist through Yelp BEFORE you head to this restaurant. When adding yourself to the waitlist through the Yelp App, you can then check your place on the list remotely which is a pretty cool feature! Despite the very long wait, I was extremely surprised that the hostess sat two tables back to back (ours and the table next to us) in the same servers section. Most people in the food industry know that is a big no no. It was nice to be able to order a latte or coffee to enjoy while waiting for a table. Disclaimer: I'm a sucker for a breakfast/brunch place. Since I've lived in Denver everyone has told me how I need to go here and I'm glad I checked it out. It's a bit pricy for some of the basic breakfast items in my opinion but the food and service was good so that makes up for it. The best pancake on the menu is the cinnamon roll but it's so sweet you can only eat one. My fiancé loved the lavender blueberry and how flavorful yet light it was. I can live without the bacon pancake. The eggs Benedict tasted good like any other well made one. The potato's it came with were nice and crunchy (how I like them). Worth the wait! We checked in using the Yelp app and it saved us about 40 minutes. If you are planning on coming during peak brunch hours, that's the way to go. The buttermilk pancakes are really good, juice is fresh and the peach jelly is on point! We had the classic breakfast, and the boulder scramble. Rustic potatoes are really good with the garlic serrano hot sauce. The ambiance is awesome, and really dig the cereal boxes. Staff is friendly and attentive, even during peak brunch. First impressions count for a lot, and Jelly made a positive first impression on me. Even though this spot has only been open a week, they seem to be doing a lot of things right. Way to transform a run down dry cleaner into a spic 'n span neighborhood breakfast joint! If you hit the breakfast window just right (say, around 10 a.m. on a Saturday) you may be treated to a 5 minute wait just like me and my friend Adam. I'm in love with the teacup and spoon chandeliers, reverse tables on the ceiling and the vintage cereal boxes (some of which still contain cereal) and can I say, grats on tracking down a box of C3P0's? I loved those things when I was a kid. Super respectable breakfast offerings here: adult beverage a.m. drinking options, french toasts, scrambles, benes, hashes, a Molly Hot Brown (which I'll be trying next time) and of course the donuts. I'd recommend getting a full order so you can sample all the varieties. Overall price point here seems a bit high, but on par with similar breakfast joints in the surrounding hoods. The only lows of my experience? The coffee was a bit bitter for my taste - not sure if it was the roast or that it was perhaps sitting out too long. The name of the beanery is escaping me at the mo, but I think it was Coffee Merchants out of the Springs or something like that. Apparently they may also be carrying beans for sale in the future, too. Also, my sweet potato hash was a combo of warm and less than warm - the potatoes were warm, but the chorizo was lukewarm at best. Now, I didn't complain about this nor send it back 'cause I was hungry, but they may need to work out some serving timing kinks. As we were getting ready to leave, the owner (a Cali native, which explains the sour cream and chive option for any potato side) sat down next to us to see how our experience went, and I was overcome by her clear elation to be running the biz. I had the reuben for lunch which had all the right ingredients and excellent flavor, my only gripe was the corn beef was very crispy and hashed instead of cut across the grain which made for a strange, stringy, and messy sandwich experience. Who gets up and is out the door before 8am on a Sunday to go to breakfast? You do if you want to avoid a crazy wait at Jelly Cafe... (and I did today, along with Tiffany N and Kelly T). The Jelly people refer to their cuisine as "comfort food with a modern twist," which I'd say is a pretty accurate description. It was tough to decide what I wanted to eat, since everything sounded so fresh and delicious. After much deliberation, and half of my cafe americano (which was made perfectly I may add), I decided to go with the Boulder Scramble. They honored my wishes and made it with egg whites, which I was thankful for... that way, I'd feel less guilty devouring the homemade fresh biscuit with vanilla peach jelly that accompanied it! Yum! The wait started shortly after we arrived. One bite and I understood why... not only is the food creative, fresh, and healthily portioned, but the staff is super friendly and the ambiance is fun and colorful. While I stuck with coffee and water this time, I did take note that the drink menu is pretty impressive. I can't wait for my next trip to Denver so that I can return to Jelly to try something new. Featuring a fun menu of Breakfast and Lunch favorites plus a handful of Daily Specials in a Diner-Style room with Old-School Cereal boxes decorating the walls, it was a young woman in glasses and a skulled apron that served as my waitress for the morning, coffee from nearby Pablo's filled repeatedly with even a cup to go. Unable to pass on the fresh donuts, each hole either topped or filled with something quite distinct, a 'large' order of eight was selected to the tune of $5, the Spicy Peanut and Matcha Anglaise each unique and inspired while the Maple Bacon and Cinnamon Sugar were both unfortunately a bit too heavy with grease. Offering several breakfasts, both sweet and savory, the majority offered in a la carte portions for those willing to invest a bit more in variety than just one thing, it was with little indecision that three individual pancakes were selected in addition to a housemade biscuit, the later separating in layers of soft buttermilk while each flapjack was light and fluffy, the Bacon-studded version not particularly imaginative while the spiraled Cinnamon Roll and Lavender Blueberry rounds were both quite pleasant, the toppings adding to their respective bases without overwhelming the aromatic subtleties. read more

This place is pretty good. Was it worth waiting over an hour for? Nahh. The best thing about this place is their coffee and you don't even have to wait for it. My suggestion is to get their White Mocha. It isn't too sweet and has one of the best flavors my tastebuds have experienced. I ordered it while waiting and accompanied it with a side of four donuts. -donut one- Creme. This was the least impressive. Not so much of a creme taste. -donut two- Chocolate creme. Really good chocolate flavor for all you lovers. The way they fill the donut is by almost pressing a hole into and letting the flavors flow out. -donut three- Cinnamon Sugar. GET THIS! The best one of all four. So soft and cinnamon-sugary. Ugh so good. -donut four- Maple Bacon. This one had an acquired taste and was way too salty. A lot different from my Voodoo Maple Bacon Doughnut experience. Either way, the wait was the best part of this meal. Once we were sat, we knew what we wanted. I ordered the Pork Belly Hash with Sourdough toast and two eggs sunny side up. They put a fair amount of pork belly but cut it in way too small of pieces and it didn't have any of that delicious fat I look for (since that holds most of the flavor). My friend got the Sweet Potato Hash which had "Mexican" Chorizo. He wasn't impressed. What won us over though? Their stuffed french toast! At first it was underwhelming because they literally only put one strawberry in it and very little of their whipped cream. We had to ask for more of both. Oof. This is a long review. But hold tight if you want a ton of info. Know that I'm not buying into the hype. (/ducks to avoid food thrown at her). The donut bites are more like doughy, yeasty bread than donuts. This isn't what bothers me 'cause I loves me the smell and taste of yeast in the morning! (does that sound gross in any way?) I can't tell you what makes me a grumpus about these but I can hypothesize: 1) maybe the dough can go more sour? more fluffy? 2) maybe the filling can be more wowing - more zingy - different texture? I'm a benny junkie. There, I came clean (but I won't go clean, dammit!). This place does crank out some damn fine poached eggs. The hollandaise is... ok? But for example, the tomato sauce on the Haco Benedict makes that whole meal taste like pizza to me. The Farm Scramble also tastes like late-night hang-over pizza. In fact, many of the dishes taste like something else - and usually it's a kind of flat, generic taste like... Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal (that's the Chai french toast). The red flannel hash was supposed to be a must-have but I was nonplussed. Flavors got muddled and the whole thing was pretty heavy. The biscuits are fairly dry. So the food is average to me. I love the attempt at experimentation (jalepeno waffles? shut the hell up!). But I don't find the food served to live up to expectations. As for the service - it is fantastic. Efficient, friendly, rocker or neo-hippyish, and youthful. Were it not for these lovely ladies and lasses I think the mid-century '50s decor would turn me off and make the whole place feel too bourgie to me. The interior is CLEAN. And BRIGHT. I like my joints a little rough around the edges but so it goes. Because there's no cozy 'padding' to absorb the sound, this place gets RAUCOUS! Bring your ear horn because that's the only way you'll hear the person sitting across from you. The wait time varies substantially depending on what time you go and what day you go (standard for breakfast/brunch places). Weekdays around 2'ish are almost always no-wait. If you have a 20-45 minute wait, you can go to Kilgore Used Books, Wax Trax record shop, or Pandora gifts and things and browse around. That'll keep you warm though there is a fair-sized waiting area that holds about 10 people sitting and standing comfortably. Diners range from uptowners with their newborns to cap hillers with their tattoos. There are couples, friends, families, and regulars who eat alone. This is hardly a seedy street, though it may look like it compared to suburbia. I ASSURE YOU that your car will be perfectly safe and that you won't be approached by any ne'er do wells. This place has been occupied by middle-upperclass kids who just want to look homeless. In fact, they're probably your own children. When I'm in the hood I like walking here. We sampled four donut holes to start, each picking our favorite flavor. After the long wait anything should have been tasty for as hungry as we were, but I didn't even finish my lemon custard donut. The first bite tasted like a grease bomb, I had no interest in a second bite. Unfortunately, the disappointment didn't end there. The french toast was so soggy, it was inedible. The hash was sad looking, with a few dry corned beef scraps. The accompanying biscuit was dry as bone. With a name like jelly you'd think there would be a variety of jellies, but no, our waitress said there was only the mango pineapple. My husband doesn't care for pineapple so it was a lost cause. My pancakes were edible, but I wouldn't recommend it and its certainly not worthy of a 45 minute wait. The breakfast burrito appeared to be the best choice, but even that was pretty lackluster. Jelly was a cute little place for brunch. It's usually super crowded but when we went, there was no wait at all. If you check in, you get complimentary coffee with unlimited refills! I ordered the basic breakfast and it was pretty good. It's pretty basic...exactly like what it's called lol. Consisted of eggs, toast and potatoes. They asked if I wanted bacon or sausage, which I thought came with it but when the check came out, it was $2.39 extra...that was one thing I didn't like. But it was good overall. First let me say that I am not much of a breakfast eater. However, my Yelp family has me bookmarking breakfast and brunch places every other day with all these stellar reviews so I have to go check them out... I went to Jelly on Sunday at around 1:30 - it was still hopping crazy. I was sat within 10 minutes, totally worth the wait by the way. Since I was at Jelly and apparently they are known for their donut bites, I decided to try the jelly filled ones - OMG fantastic, still warm and perfectly cooked. I am not much of a donut person but these left a perfect lingering taste of jelly. A small order is 4 bites, a big order is 8 bites. I say they are worth it and you should get the 8! For an entree I decided to get the mini sliders. The Savory (Mini Goat Cheese frittata with bacon and spinach walnut pesto, The Country (Mina bacon and onion frittata with aged cheddar cheese), and The Rustic (Mini Sausage frittata with red pepper pesto and swiss cheese). Also served with Peasant Potatoes which were perfectly cooked and seasoned - no need for salt and pepper in this place. They were all fantabulous, amazing, and scrumdidlyumptous - yes I just made up words. They were that good. I did feel as though it was a lot of bread to consume, I know that's a given when I order sliders - duh - but with part of the slider being a frittata I don't know if the bread was needed. Just a thought. My server was Randy and he was good, lacking a bit. I asked for some cream with my iced coffee when I was first sat and I didn't get it until after I finished my entire meal - a little bit of a hiccup but I am willing to overlook it for now based on the food I received. Decorated with cereal boxes and different video game characters it really reminded me of breakfast as a kid. Place was definitely busy and we did have to wait probably 40 minutes for a table. But on a Saturday at noon what do expect . Waitress was friendly and probably took 6 or 7 minutes to take our order which was cool. We chose the basic breakfast with one blueberry lavender pancake added on and the southern biscuits and gravy meal. The food didnt look all that great but flavor wise it was great.
