My friend and I stopped for a quick lunch in the Java Ranch and were sorely disappointed. We both ordered grilled cheese which cost about $8 each. I was completely shocked when our food arrived and it was merely two slices of barely melted American cheese between white bread. With a bag of plain Lays chips and a pickle spear. For $8! My friend's sandwich was at least warm; mine was not. I suspect my bread was stale as it had structure but did not seem toasted. I am a life-long vegetarian and this meal was an unfortunate blast from the past. I've not had an American cheese/white bread grilled cheese in probably two decades. I cannot believe the Java Ranch gets away with such low-quality, over-priced food. Later in the day, we stopped in a bakery and they served a grilled cheese-- aged cheddar on sourdough-- for $5. I just want to reiterate a previous reviewer. They offer croissant sandwich, but apparently don't order enough, because they were out today as well. Also, got attitude from a wait person, because I chose to sit at a table she wanted to put t-shirts on rather than sitting in front of a row of coolers. She then went behind the counter and complained to other staff, which I could see. BTW, she went to another table and spread out the shirts and there they remained. My hubby and I loved this place on our trip to Fredicksburg so much that we ended up visiting 3 times! The chai tea latte and vanilla latte were delicious. It was a nice way to relax and get a break from all the walking on Main Street. Very friendly employees and cute atmosphere. read more

The peach pie was awesome. That's it. The service was horrible and the drinks were disgusting and poorly mixed/made. The folks behind the counter didn't make eye contact, barely spoke to us (we weren't sure if they were ready to take our order or not), and their priority was clearly goofing around with each other behind the counter. I could go to Starbucks for the same price and get better service and product...and I don't like going to Starbucks. This is Fredericksburg--up your game. read more

I can't speak to much here except that they were serving excellent drip coffee on New Years Day - strong but not too bitter. The aesthetic is what you'd expect of a 'Java Ranch.' There are dark woods and a Texas-themed mural on the wall. I only wish they served a cowboy coffee congruent with their Ranch-simulating indoor porch. read more

I struggle with this rating .... coffee/latte/ cappuccino experienced by our group was average at best so if rating just on drinks I would say 3. Food on the other hand was terrible. The croissant in the egg/cheese croissant with bacon had a sour taste. It also had a density I have never seen in croissants. The "egg" may have been a powder mix ... not sure but had the consistency of that. The cheese was like a slice of velveeta. The bacon was edible -- the sausage was not. Very little of our 3 orders was consumed -- most went straight to the trash. Looking back the price was exorbitant for what was served. We now know why almost everyone else sitting at tables (& most full) were only consuming drinks. read more

It tastes like glorified lukewarm dirt. The workers are not real, trained baristas, and push buttons to brew coffee. Sure it has a convenient location, if you are willing to sacrifice taste. The best coffee in town is by far Ranch Road Roasters, just a little ways down Main Street. If you want delicious coffee before a long trip through the wine country or a walk down Main Street, don't stop at Java Ranch, you will not be satisfied. read more

We had to of course wait in line before giving our order and paying, but they guy making the drinks decided he would just make them all, not in order, but based on if he knew the person that ordered that drink. Super irritating when you have to wait 10 mins for your drink because you are waiting for the barista to complete other people's orders that placed their order after you did. Just make the drinks in the order they were received. We came in because it was raining outside and we wanted warm drinks. The atmosphere and decor were excellent and full of character. However, the coffee was average in my opinion. I had a mocha and it was not as good as Starbucks, which isn't my favorite either. If you're cold and want a warm drink, it's a good choice. read more

We stopped here for breakfast on our way out of Fredericksburg. We were using the vouchers we had from our bed and breakfast, but would have gladly paid the very reasonable prices. They have several coffees to choose from in both caffeinated and decaf. All were good. I had the egg and cheese breakfast taco. It's made on a 10" tortilla, so one is plenty. Wild West decor is cute and fun. Coffee is decent. Wish they had organic coffee options. They are pretty busy in the middle of the day, but being on Main Street that is to be expected. We received a coupon for breakfast here from our B&B service. All I can say is I am glad it made breakfast free. I got the $8 breakfast plate. Yeck. Cold scrambled eggs that apparently were poured from a carton to be cooked. No way they were fresh eggs. Bacon ok, chopped potatoes also not hot, also probably not fresh ones cut up on premises, toast passable but served with frigid butter. Reading other reviews I guess I should stuck to pastry and coffee but preferred to forgo the sugar. read more

I didn't stop into too many place while I was in town but I thought this place was cool. The young man who helped me out was really nice, as well as helpful. I believe his name was Morgan.? He was very knowledgeable about the coffee and questions I had about the town as well. Nice guy. I think there def should of been more cash in his TIP jar too! I don't know if little towns get it but you gotta throw something in, especially on a good experience like he was helping with. Texas Coffee Trader is a great product to carry too. Locally roasted up the road with TONS of GREAT options. I back this place and think its worth catching am coffee and a taco. read more

The service here is extremely slow. There seams to only be one employee really working, while the others are sitting around talking. And with as much business as they get, they need to have at least 2 registers open. The line was basically out of the door this morning and it took around 30 minutes just to get my coffee. Unacceptable. You will get better and faster coffee down the road at chevron or McDonald's. read more

Nice little coffee shop with limited breakfast options. The coffee was ok and fir some reason had an imbalanced amount of requested hazelnut flavoring. The cappuccino was the same but too sweet. Breakfast was overpriced for fake eggs, small, lacking meat bacon and a generic bagel. 2 sandwiches and 2 coffees for $25 and still hungry. Wonder if Ihop would've been better? Even my bagel came out wrong as they had added cheese against my request. Oh little Fredericksburg shop. What to do with you? On the bright side, it smelled delicious in there even from outside the entrance. :) read more

I totally agree with the "Erin N" review at the top. My friend and I were in Fredericksburg for our 40th bday trip. We started Saturday with a long walk that ended at another coffee shop on Main St. The service was terrible and "barista" beyond rude. Our food took 45 minutes and was OK but nothing great. Later in the day, weary of the crowds and shops, we stopped in to Java Ranch. I enjoyed a delicious milkshake made from Blue Bell ice cream. YUM! The employees were beyond nice and so worth the wait. We were on the hunt for a good dinner place locals would patron and they suggested the most delicious Tex Mex spot out of town. We were pulling out Sunday morning and needed some quick breakfast. We both ordered breakfast tacos (a new thing for this NC girl but a staple for my TX friend). Oh my goodness. They far exceeded my expectations! Big and yummy. Seriously, the most delicious salsa I've ever enjoyed. If I lived nearby I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Thankful for great customer service, fun atmosphere, respite from the crowds, and good food/drink! If I ever return to Fredericksburg, I WILL visit Java Ranch! read more
