First time at Vaudeville. We were walking by and saw that the daily special was Buttermilk Fried Chicken, we are always looking for good fried bone-in fried chicken, so we went downstairs to give it a try. Vibe is euro-bistro and the staff is perfectly attentive. Prices are high, but honestly aligned to the quality of the food, at least the dishes we had were worth the prices. Food: Buttermilk Fried Chicken, with Onion/Bacon flash fried collard greens, whipped potatoes and house gravy and Jalapeno Cornbread for $32 Reuben on Marble Rye for $24 16oz Stella Artois for $10 We agreed that the fried chicken (5/5) was the best we could remember having. Whipped potatoes (5/5) were light, fluffy and perfect taste/texture. The gravy was like brown butter (5/5). The collard greens (5/5) were flash fried and if you've never had them like this, it's like eating collard green potato chips. Cornbread (3/4) was a bit too delicate and sweet for our taste. You couldn't pick it up without it falling apart. The Ruben (3/5). My wife loves a good Ruben sandwich. This one had the makings of a good one, but they use a Thousand Island sauce (too much of it) on the sandwich, and it hides the flavor of the meat. Next time we would ask for the sandwich without the TI sauce, see if that improves the rating. The sandwich came with house made potato chips (5/5), a small house salad with vinaigrette (5/5) and a large, pickled cucumber. I know, that's a pickle, but these are cucumbers that have gone maybe a third of the way through the process, so the cucumber taste is really prevalent. Lastly, we had the Creme Brulé (3/5) for dessert. It was nice, but the custard was coffee and caramel flavored, and we prefer the standard custard look and flavor. The caramel should come from the top layer, not the custard. The top layer was a bit too thick as well. We liked it, just didn't love it. Overall, quality food, service and vibe with prices that are aligned to more special occasions than everyday eating out. We'll be back to try the Monday Crawfish Etoufee and the Tuesday Duck Confit daily specials...look too good to pass up. read more

Went for a friend's birthday with a large group. (7). We ended up having to do a set menu which wasn't horrible but when I didn't want that much I was semi bummed that I was forced to go off of it. The wait staff was plenty and made sure everyone always had a drink. While it is a beautiful intimate place, it was poor lighting downstairs which made it hard to see the menus. read more

This is our second visit to Vaudeville. We and another couple wanted to visit Pedernales Cellars, which was a great experience and worthy of a separate Yelp review. During our wine tasting, we made reservations for a late lunch at Vaudeville. Reservations are highly recommended. Our server was excellent in all aspects...friendly, accommodating, recommendations, etc. I had a delicious French dip and my wife had the Reuben, which was also delicious. We split the two. The sandwiches are large and my wife took half of hers home. The vibe was cheerful....talking and laughter, but not at all too loud or obnoxious. If you are in Fredericksburg, I highly recommend Vaudeville. We have not had dinner there, but look forward to it on another occasion. read more

This is absolutely a gem! The restaurant is downstairs from a wonderful shop with such beautiful pieces and candles. The restaurant is dimly lit creating a very intimate setting with the most helpful staff. Amy served us and was helpful with recommendations and allowed us to slowly move through the menu. Every dish was wonderful, fresh, and tasty. The top dish was a surprise to me but the She Crab Curry soup was such a unique dish. Spicy and savory with the most comforting feeling. Chill vibe at this eatery below the retail store. We came just before lunch ended at 4 pm on a busy Friday afternoon in Fredericksburg. Our server Brock was super friendly and suggested we decide on our order quickly, so he could get it to the kitchen before the shift from lunch to dinner. Started with the Mediterranean plate, house made hummus, ricotta, olive,Baba Ganoush,chibatta toasted,wow high quality stuff and enough to share. High quality pastrami piled high on toasted marble rye with brussel slaw,1000 island split with Mrs D it was one of the best rueben. Amazing! Incredible! 100/10 stars!! Loved this place so much and so glad we came here for lunch. This was our first trip to Fredericksburg and I'm really happy we chose this place. We ordered the Mediterranean plate as an app and everything was so incredibly yummy! We were warned the sandwiches are large and they weren't kidding! We shared the club sandwich and WOW...whoever decided to add the apple butter is a genius! My mouth is watering just thinking about it! Side note-the bread they use is out of this world!!! On Wednesday, the soup was a beef and vegetable. I would have reduced the salt for my personal taste but it was a soup like one would find in any restaurant in France and perfectly fine.would love to have been here on Sunday to try their fried chicken. Today was grilled salmon day and Irene ordered it while I went with a Reuben to check out their bread. The Reuben was superb. One of the best that I've ever had. Just perfect. Salmon in a miso broth seemed smart as miso isn't strong enough a flavor profile to compete with and thus, ruin, the salmon flavor profile. I have a thing about chefs who garnish a salmon (or just about anything) with bitter micro greens cause it looks pretty (that you bite into and they ruin the other more subtle flavors). So miso seems a good choice as is white pepper for this dish. The pistachio tiramisu was "interesting ", but I wonder if they are using salted pistachios? If so, I note that this is a mistake. Switch to unsalted. Still, we did finish it between the two of us. But it was unpleasantly salty and I would recommend against it. Weird that the restaurant focuses on non local wines (Europe and California) when Fredericksburg is in the heart of the Texas wine country. Are they saying that the local wines suck? You'd think they'd try to find and champion the best of the locals instead of wines easily available elsewhere. A lot of times, when persons in the kitchen come from other cultures/countries, they may be trained to follow a recipe but may not necessarily have the culinary cultural map to know how to make minor adjustments before putting an entree out for consumption. read more

What a cool vibe this place has! To get there you need to walk into the store and then down some stairs to be seated at the restaurant. My husband and I shared the cup of gumbo and split the Rueben sandwich. The gumbo was incredible with a strong seafood flavor. The Rueben was probably the best one I've ever had. It had brussel kraut and a serious cheese pull with pastrami and incredible bread! The chips were crispy and delish. I was super surprised at how tasty the basic mixed green salad was. My friend and I visited Vaudeville during lunch on Saturday. The restaurant was very nice, friendly service and we were seated quickly without a reservation. My husband and I arrived 20 minutes early for our Saturday night reservation hoping to get a cocktail at the bar before dinner, unfortunately the hostess said that they "don't allow waiting at the bar". I took that to mean that the bar is also by reservation only, but we were a bit off put by that. We were seated shortly after our reservation time and from that point forward we had a 10/10 experience. The restaurant itself is very dimly lit and vibey, perfect for a date night. Based on reviews I was a little worried that you were required to order from the pre-fixe menu on Friday & Saturday nights no matter the size of your party but that turned out not to be the case. To start, we shared a margarita pizza which more closely resembled a regular cheese pizza but was absolutely delicious. For our mains I ordered the grilled veggie salad and added the confit chicken and my husband ordered the duck confit. Duck confit is one of his all time favorite dishes and this one ranked as one of the best ones he has ever had. He let me have *one* bite and it really was divine. I must agree with a lot of the reviews. Staff is apathetic at best, food is sub par and the service staff needs to go to a training course by Chickfila. When we walked in the hostess refused to sit us outside as requested. The waiter was great but overbooked with every table and barely took our order as he ran by. The icing on the cake was when we went to the upstairs store which reminded me of a washed up Dallas socialite who was pretending to be 28 but was really 82. Terrible taste by the buyer. As I was about to purchase 3 pairs of sunglasses because they were a fraction of the price of my usual Krewe glasses, the "well trained" sales associate told me to "make sure I was putting them back where I found them so she could track what I was picking up". Let me save you some time: if you're searching "family friendly" on Yelp and Vaudeville comes up, know that Yelp lied to you. I have two toddlers. Fredericksburg is a tourist town. I came in good faith. Rookie mistake apparently. The hostess greeted us by asking if we had a reservation. The restaurant was empty. I'll let that sink in. To be fair (and I mean this sincerely) our server Brock was an absolute legend and a beacon of humanity in an otherwise bleak landscape. Before he even introduced himself he'd already swapped the glassware for plastic cups so the kids wouldn't destroy anything. He suggested the Margherita pizza unprompted and offered to do plain cheese on dough for the little ones. That man understood the assignment completely, probably keeps the whole operation from imploding, and deserves a raise, a trophy, and a formal apology from his employers for the company he's forced to keep. The rest of the staff did not get that memo. At one point my wife needed the restroom and asked a passing waitress for directions. The waitress made direct eye contact with her and kept walking. Not distracted or busy. Eye contact. Kept walking. My wife then asked what appeared to be a manager (a bald, suited man radiating the energy of someone who has never once laughed at a joke) and he pointed upward, said "up there," and walked away without breaking stride or producing anything resembling a human expression. In a restaurant. To a guest. With a toddler. Sir. The clientele had absorbed the vibe completely. A nearby table spent a meaningful portion of our dinner staring and whispering in our direction like we'd shown up to the Met Gala in cargo shorts. In Fredericksburg, Texas. Where the entire economy runs on families with kids and disposable income. You cannot make this up. I almost got up and left. I thought about gathering my family and walking out and saving everyone the trouble. But I looked at my kids and thought, nahhhh. I'm not going to let anyone make my family feel inferior. So we stayed. We ate the food, which was genuinely excellent. We paid $200 for the most stressful dinner I can remember and a story I'll be telling for years. About that $200. The duck confit was superb. The braised beef was delicious. But $26 for a kids pizza that was literally just sauce and dough is a number that requires a level of audacity I genuinely respect on some level. Metro pricing. Hill Country execution. Lovely brunch at Vaudeville this weekend. Definitely recommend getting there early as it is very popular with limited seating. I expected the menu to have more brunch items but it really seemed like a lunch menu with very few breakfast items. However, the Sunday fried chicken special was delightful, and I'm glad we got it. The chicken was well-seasoned and crispy with very flavorful potatoes and greens on the side. They need to add a Bloody Mary to the brunch menu and take care of the fly problem downstairs but it certainly wasn't keeping any guests away. I stopped in without reservations mid-day on a Saturday and my party of two was sat immediately. Both the host and our server were super friendly and our drinks were out just as quickly as we could order them. We went for some light bites - the burrata and seasonal quiche and both were delicious! The freshness of the burrata paired with the thickest asparagus I have simply ever seen made that dish our favorite. The quiche, filled with large chunks of crab meat (and more asparagus) was also perfectly cooked allowing the quiche portion to be soft and the surrounding dough nice and crispy. I heard of Vaudeville's Sunday fried chicken brunch years ago and finally got around to trying it. This is one of best meals I've had in a long time. The chicken was crispy and just a tad spicy. The mashed potatoes were smooth and creamy and delicious even without gravy. The sautéed collard greens with bacon and onion melted in my mouth. I typically don't eat bacon but theirs was high quality. I would have eaten even more but was stuffed so my husband finished the plate. The decor and atmosphere is perfection. Dylan, the sommelier, was the only disappointment here. He delivered our charcuterie board. We asked him to identify the selections. He told us 3 of the 5 items and then sd if we needed further info to ask our server. If he's too important to expedite food, then he should not. He should continue to pace around acting important. When others delivered charcuteries to the tables around us, every expeditor explained the items, without those patrons asking. When our wine glasses were empty, he removed our glasses but did not ask if we wanted another glass. Which we did and ordered through Joseph a few moments later. It seemed to us, he assess patrons. I encourage you to spend a few moments doing some shopping on the main floor of the building. This hidden Bistro offers a permanent daily lunch schedule so on Friday I am having lump crab coconut curry. Tuesday is duck condition. You will also find a selection of sandwiches, salads, and soups. And it would be a sin to forget about the desserts. Oh, did I mention the lump crab coconut curry? It is that good.
