The winery itself is lovely, but our visit was disappointing again because of the manager. She came across as cold, unwelcoming, and seemed irritated by guests. Hospitality should make people feel comfortable, and unfortunately that wasn't our experience. On the other hand, the gentleman working there was incredibly kind and did everything he could to accommodate us. The younger woman on staff was also friendly and welcoming. They both helped make the visit better despite the manager's attitude. I had really high expectations for Halter Ranch, but unfortunately the experience fell far short. We had a reservation and arrived on time, so we expected the restaurant to be prepared for our group. yet it took over 45 minutes just to receive a soda and even longer to get our first glass of wine. When our food finally started coming out, only half of the order arrived, and we spent the next 30 minutes repeatedly asking about the rest with little communication from our server. It was clear the restaurant was not prepared, but what was most disappointing was the lack of accountability. We never received an apology, never heard from a manager, and nothing was done to make up for the experience. Overall, very disappointing service, mediocre food, and warm wine. read more

Checked the box and have now visited all three Halter Ranch locations. This one in Fredricksberg gives off a feeling of a high-end experience. The design is modern and clean. On the Saturday that we were there, it was well staffed and we were well taken care of. They offer only one wine that is sourced from Texas grown grapes. It's their Grenache/Mourvedre Rose. I thought it was refreshing and good. Just like the Temecula location, most of their wines are sourced from the Central California area. Locals may not appreciate this. However, wines are good. FYI, husband had a glass of Viognier, which he didn't care for. If an upscale feel is more of your preference, you will like Halter Ranch. read more

Another great visit to Halter Ranch. Some quick things to know: - The food is excellent - The Ancestor red wine is our fav - Service is great - Pricing is $$$ Having been here 3 times now and have enjoyed each visit. We have done the tastings twice now and know our favorite red is the Ancestor followed by the CDP. We LOVE their burger and get it each time. We order it medium rare and it's done perfectly. So juicy and tasty. We also love their salad and had r it this visit as well. As we find the wine to be expensive here, we've started to order a bottle vs 2 glasses. We have friends in California that are Halter Ranch wine club members and they told us about this location. it was the perfect day to visit Halter Ranch. The property in Fredericksburg is gorgeous. They had dog friendly seating outside, and the staff was very, very friendly to my lovely greyhound. The chef came out and asked if he could bring her an axis bone. It was very sweet of him. We had the charcuterie board and a tasting flight. after that, we washed it all down with wild boar schnitzel. I couldn't think of a better way to spend my birthday weekend-- great wine and the best girls! read more

Very cool place! We had a party of 9, got a table outside and immediately were helped to wine and food options. (both of which were amazing). I'm basically writing this review to personally thank the person who served us because she was a saint. Even though everything was perfect, our 5 year old randomly decided that she was going to throw up her breakfast (I promise she didn't drink any of the delicious wine). I can't for the life of me remember the woman's name (I'm so sorry) but our waitress got us towels, water and everything else we needed to get the kid to the car (and back to our hotel haha). Anyway, I'm here to fully endorse the wine as well as the appetizer (especially the French fries cuz those were fireee). To the waitress that helped us, thank you! You know who you are lol. It was my first time visiting Halter ranch and I was pleasantly surprised. Upon arriving we were greeted at the door by a nice woman that asked if we were tasting or eating. We were with friends who were members and I feel like the vibes changed a little when they knew we were "members". Our wine expert was Cathy who was such a ray of sunshine. Her knowledge of wine and halter ranch kept me so interested. Cathy is someone you don't find often at any restaurant and it was a treat to be treated so nicely. The herb fries were AMAZING as well. THE BIG: Beautiful 32 acre tasting room from Paso Robles based Halter Ranch. Right off the 290 winery strip and this is the latest addition to the Texas Hill Country wineries. Windy road to tons of parking. Food is available here as well THE BLACK AND WHITE: The wife and I came here around 3:30pm and that's when we found out that they stopped serving their full tasting menu since those take around 90 mins to serve out. Instead there were two smaller tasting menus (3 tastings each) of a red or white. We ordered the red tasting flight and we got a complimentary pour of the texas rose. Their only texas sourced grape wine and it was delicious! It didn't have the pinkish color of a rose but it was lovely and crisp. THE FINAL BAMBOO: Overall a red wine tasting flight was around $25. Similar for the white wine tasting flight. We'll be back for the full tasting flight and lunch soon! read more

Food, space, and service were certainly 5 star worthy. Their menu is small but servings were a good size. We shared the Colinas de cubano sandwich and it was amazing!! This winery does not grow it's own grapes yet. We did a tasting of 4 wines for $35 which was reasonable. The wines were delicious but over priced for blends from their sister vineyard in Paso Robles. This past weekend we visited our 57th vineyard, Halter Ranch. They offer two tastings, Ranch Flight ($35) and Silver Flight ($50). Both offer really tasty options that span Rosé, White, and Red varietals. The tastings are dynamic enough to peak everyone's palate. You'll be sure to leave with a few favorites. I was very excited to learn that Halter Ranch had dining on site. One of my biggest complaints is the lack of dining options around Hwy 290. The dining area looks like an extension of the main tasting room, but take a few more steps and you are welcomed by an open and shiny kitchen. My partner and I tasted a few plates. Here are our two favorites. Colinas de Cubano ($26) House roast pork, ham, sheep's milk Gruyère, garlic mayo, Dijon. The size of this sandwich will consume you! Take your first bite and you'll step into utter bliss. The ingredients come together in a symphony that delights your entire palate. Close your eyes and you'll be transported to a childhood memory where your abuelita made the sandwich. 5/5 Halter Ranch Burger ($25) Brie, herb aioli, arugula, pickles, brioche bun, fries. Best burger I have tasted! From the very first bite there's an explosion in your mouth and all you can think about is devouring the burger. The hero is the brie, a very divisive ingredient, but one I love. It pairs extremely nicely with the herb aoili and perfectly cooked patty. Brie lovers welcome, brie haters stay away. 5/5 The highest of praise to Winemaker Kevin Sass and Executive Chef Paul Arangorin for delivering a magical experience through out our entire visit. This is the worst Winery i have been too, first we were not allowed to sit inside the tasting room, and were sat outside. The server said it was all reserved. Yet the hour we were there, the tasting room was empty, with an exemption of one couple. We then ordered a plate of Olive Oil and Bread. It was the worst Olive Oil, we ever had. I let the server know and she took it away, no apology, she can back after the tasting and said that both the manager and cook both tasted it and said that maybe it did not connect with our pallets. We live in CA and have been to wineries in many places and have been to Italy and had real Olive Oil. read more

IF you are in Fredericksburg to taste wines that are vinted with Texas grapes and bottles by Texas wineries, do not go here. The MAJORITY of wines are vinted and bottled in California. The ONLY exclusives (i.e. made with grapes from Texas) are the 2023 Texas Sparkling Rose and the 2024 Desert Willow Rose. We did go ahead and taste the Tempranillo (since we don't like to do tastings since they often have wines we don't care for). Bought the bottle and sipped from it while there. What's great is that Texas law allows cork and carry. Hope was our server - she was VERY informative and hospitable. However, the vibe here was somewhat meh - we frequently visit CA wineries as our comparison. Gorgeous day - be sure to ask to sit outside if you want that. I personally don't like it when a winery opens up in Texas and then promotes California wine. Personally, if I want "California" wine, I will visit Naps Valley or go to HEB or any other store that sells wine. They do promote promote that they are organic, but they are not Texas Organic. They do have a restaurant on site, and the food is better quality than some of the other resort wineries on 290. That said, the $25 hamburger wasn't as good as Pecan Groves. Personally, they are going to need to get creative with their menu. Offering a menu of items that you are not going to find in Fredericksburg. Fredericksburg has numerous hamburgers, steaks, sandwiches, and German restaurants. read more

We love this winery in Paso Robles and it is a very nice edition to the Fredericksburg area. Yea! Be prepared the prices are a bit "out of range" for the area (aka expensive) but well worth it. We love the hamburger which is more than a meal and will carry you through the day of tasting. This would have been a five star review except for two issues. One, it is very, very difficult to get anyone to answer the phone for reservations, questions, conversations about concerns, etc. The number was always busy - and I mean always. I resorted to online reservations but had to do two reservations to get my whole party in at about the same time. An active phone representative would have been so much more inviting. When we got there, the hostess was very gracious however. They have inside (for food service and tasting) and outside seating (just for tasting I bet). The second issue was the wait staff (Mary) was very inattentive. It took me glaring at her for her to come and wait on us with every course. Very, very slow and then a mandatory tip of 20% to her for this service. I get why mandatory for large parties but I want someone to know she did not deserve 20% and we weren't really picky or fussy - 15%. As members, she did work with me to ensure we were getting our free tastings, etc. I hope to see them add Texas wines to this beautiful winery! read more

The wines were "acceptable" but nothing remarkable. The facility and grounds were pleasant enough but the prices for food and merchandise were outrageously expensive. Apparently, being based in California, the owners must believe Texans wouldn't complain about paying California prices. The most striking offensive price was to charge $35 for a basic ball cap without any design other than a very simple "H" in a circle. As for the food, Seriously? $40 for a lunch portion of a smoked chicken breast? The burgers were underwhelming and not worth a return visit. read more

Our party of 8 got there 15 minutes before our reservation, but the check-in process took so long, that we didn't even get up to the hostess stand until our appointment time. Mind you, only 3 parties were in front of us, so it took 15 minutes to get 3 parties just checked in--not even seated--just checked in. The staff was nice enough, but not overly friendly. The wine tasting menu doesn't offer as many options as other places like Barons Creek. So if you're strictly a red wine drinker, you don't really have an option to only taste red wines. You're going to have to taste some whites. It is a little more formal of a tasting than a place like Barons Creek, which we had gone to the day before. The fries were really good, and the wine was pretty good. Our waitress was sweet, but she seemed to be a little busy. She also did one of the pours while 3 of us were in the restroom, which I felt wasn't very thoughtful. Once things started slowing down, she became a little more attentive.
