French Dip sandwich with macaroni salad
Evelynn M.

We stopped in on Wednesday for a late lunch before going back to San Antonio. This was our pick because we had our two dogs who were greeted so kindly and positively which was very nice and welcoming. The employees are very helpful and friendly and the food came out fast. When you are ready you order inside and they deliver the food to your table. I had a French Dip Sandwich with the macaroni salad and my partner had a bowl of chili. Both were flavorful and delicious. This was a great spot, we plan to come back again soon.

Vanilla Porter. Yummy

Nice place on a side street the casual passer by never goes down. I found it in Yelp and it had positive reviews so I walked a half mile there. I had a vanilla porter on tap and it was great. Perfect temperature and very enjoyable. I also had the Cesar salad with a piece of grilled chicken on top. I'm not sure what the dressing is but there was NO BITE to it. There was no Parmesan in the salad but clumps in something else kinda like crumbled feta. The chicken tasted Like mystery meat, kinda pressed like a nugget, grilled and sliced. I'm really not sure about it but it tasted ok and it was safe. The atmosphere was great, bar tender great and place was cool. I will go back but not for the same food I picked. (Guess I should have read more details on the menu) Service was solid. I was in and out enjoyably fast.

Beer flight. Blood orange, send it double ipa, gunga, and house ipa beer flight
Frank A.

Was looking forward to coming here based on other reviews but was left disappointed. Perhaps I came in on an off night or shift change. The service at the start was good but disappeared after ordering two flights of beer. I'm not sure if waitress was having a rough night or perhaps just didn't want to serve us as it took at least 10 minutes to get her attention for some water. One of the glasses of water came with some floating unidentified debris in it. Might have been the conversation and bantering with the regulars. The beers were okay but I did enjoy the Send it double ipa and gunga ipa! The board itself was better looking than what it tasted. The bacon jam was good (unburned portion) but the scrapings of the griddle gave it an off taste that was not pleasant. The sauerkraut was nice and mild and complimented the pretzel. The pretzel was very delicious combined with the board but was missing salt on its own. The sausage was decent but I did not like it cut in very thin slices but that's just my personal opinion. The jalapeño sausage (only one I can distinguish) was delicious. The others were too bit burned to get full flavor from. The pickles and green beans were good. The mustard was great tasting and complimented the jalapeno sausage and pretzel nicely. The beer cheese tasted like queso but tasted okay but had a watered down thinning texture to it. The place itself is very chill and laid back and over all nice atmosphere. They do have a cool patio area that's chill and they do allow dogs in that area. The mustard, pretzel, and ipa is what helped me keep this at a solid 3 stars. Once again perhaps I came in on an off night.

Great little brewery in Fredericksburg! Loved the beers and food was amazing also. Place has a cool laid back vibe we love.... Highly recommend

Taco Salad
Sabrina L.

My rating is a 4.5. While visiting Fredericksburg we decided to eat before heading back to Austin. I found this place on Yelp and we had a great experience. There were 5 of us and the weather was perfect to sit outdoors. Our server was quick and friendly despite it being busy. We ordered the French Dip, their special which was a tri tip sandwich, a grill cheese, nachos & the taco salad. The sandwiches were one of the best we have tried all 5 stars. The taco salad was a little different but my daughter said it was good, a 4 star. The nachos could have been a little better. My father had them heat it up that was only a 3 star. The server was a 5 star and the place itself was a 5 star with lovely stinging lights outside. Bathrooms were very clean. I would definitely recommend this place

Great great beers! Great great hamburgers Great atmosphere Just try it you won't be disappointed!

This was one of my favorite places in Fredericksburg! The staff is friendly. We met the owner and she was a wealth of information on what to do in the area. I had the caramel apple sangria which was delicious. My husband tried a few of the home-brewed beer. We also had the sausage platter... which left us both stuffed! Different sausages, bacon jam, bavarian pretzel, dill pickles and pickled green beans... yum! Definitely put this on your "hit list" when you're in Fredericksburg!

Cali Copycat burger
Cherrie B.

Found this on yelp with great reviews so we went and tried it out today for lunch. It did not disappoint. We ordered the cali copycat burger, hill country reuben and they were tasty. The hostess was nice and accommodating. Ambiance has a chill vibe. Not very spacious inside but it holds decent number of customers. Also, there is an outdoor seating if you prefer that. Great stop for lunch.

On a whim about a month ago, I planned a vacation to Fredericksburg based solely around how much I…read moreloved the brewery when I lived there with my dad 32 years ago, when I was 14. The brewery was the first place I ever had a scotch egg, my dad would get a small beer flight, maybe we'd get a brat, he made it fun. I'm pretty sure it had just opened back then. We got into town, checked in at the Trueheart Hotel, and immediately walked to the brewery because I was so excited. I probably went in to this with the unrealistic expectation that it would be the same as when I was a kid. It had a great start. The hostess was nice, and our server was, too. I wish we had gotten to sit in the back room with the long tables, We started with the beer flight and a scotch egg. The beer flight was okay. I was expecting really good German beers, mind-blowing, but these were just fine. A pale ale, an IPA, a flat porter were on the list, just not a memorable selection, although the red ale was good. The flight was a good price, though. For our appetizer, I wasn't expecting such a small scotch egg for $9. I mean, it was really small. I've been to several places around my area for scotch eggs, and they're usually $11-12 for two and they're properly sized. But we're on vacation and I wanted nostalgia so fine. It was delicious, and the creole mustard the scotch egg comes with was divine. More on that later. For our meals we tried both schnitzels. I was disappointed they don't have spaetzle, I'm pretty sure they used to. My boyfriend had the schinken and I had the jager. I don't like ham but his was infinitely better because of the gravy. The gravy on the jager schnitzel I got was heavy with some seasoning, maybe sage. It's all I could taste, and I couldn't just push the gravy off because my pork was fried to death. I barely ate any of mine. The sides we got (you get two per plate) were German potato salad, fries, onion rings, and vegetable medley. The fries and onion rings were great, especially when dipping in the creole mustard we saved from the scotch egg. The German potato salad is supposed to be sweet and sour and my boyfriend usually likes it, but this was way sweet, he wasn't a fan. The vegetable medley was good, but seemed really out of place as a side, normally with schnitzel you'd expect green beans or a salad or something, we got broccoli and squash. They did have a side salad, but it was $5. Not sure why a side salad couldn't just replace the two sides for no upcharge. I will say the rolls were awesome. At the end our server let us sit and hang out for a few minutes, he didn't rush us. We asked if they sell the creole mustard in bottles but they don't, so he said we could pay $5 for a togo container of it. We got probably a cup, so I was fine with that, I really loved it that much. We paid, I noticed he charged us $5 for tarter sauce that we didn't have, figured it was the only way to ring up the mustard. We left with our prized creole mustard. Cut to this weekend when we opened it to make a sandwich, and what we actually got was tarter sauce, so somewhere along the way he'd forgotten what we asked for. We live 200 miles from Fredericksburg, there's no fixing that, but maybe that's on me because I should have checked it. They really should sell bottles of that mustard, it's very good. Overall, it just wasn't the experience I was expecting. It's not the same, it's been over 30 years so I totally understand, and I did try to be fair with my critique. It wasn't great, it was just okay.

After reading through some of the recent reviews, we were hesitant in coming here because of some…read moreof the service and food issues. Since there are no business owner responses, the problems could be persisting. However, we've enjoyed our time here in the past so we thought we'd try it again. We got here at 5 pm on a Thursday and the place was mostly empty. That usually translates into better service and likely a better prepared meal as well. Sure enough, this theory was correct. We had two craft beers on the table within three minutes followed by Ruben fritters five minutes after that. The menu here is pretty simple with the expected German twist to it. We just stuck to a salad and burger. The salad was fresh and good, but the burger was pretty average and you have to add your own mayo and mustard. Even by adding cheese and mushrooms it still fell within the three star range and the fries were just OK. The beers were correct to style, but the hoppier beers were slightly tame. It's pretty much three stars overall, but the service was great so 31/2*. I'd still come back and try something else off the menu before the weekend and before 6.

The castle-like architecture, expansive grounds, and overall atmosphere make it feel like a destination rather than just a brewery. In terms of size and majestic ambiance, it reminded me of Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, New York. We stopped in for lunch on a weekday and still had about a 30-minute wait for a table. Fortunately, that wasn't a problem because we were able to enjoy a beer while waiting and take in the scenery. The property is large enough that exploring it becomes part of the experience. The beer selection is heavily focused on German styles, which was perfect for me. Whether you enjoy lagers, pilsners, bocks, or wheat beers, there is something for every fan of traditional German brewing. One of the fun touches is that many of the beers are available in liter size pours, adding to the authentic beer hall experience. The food menu is inspired by classic German cuisine, but it also offers a wide variety of other options, including some more upscale dishes. This makes it easy for everyone in a group to find something they will enjoy. Everything we ordered was excellent, with generous portions and high-quality ingredients. Beyond the food and beer, the atmosphere is what really makes this place special. The combination of the castle setting, beautiful grounds, German-inspired traditions, and excellent hospitality creates an experience that feels unique and memorable. Overall, this is far more than just a brewery. It's a destination worth visiting whether you're a beer enthusiast or simply looking for a great meal in a remarkable setting. For those that have issues finding parking on the Main Street, it's good to note that they have a small lot in the back for customers as well. Alstadt Peach Radler - Top of the list of what I personally enjoyed at the Auslander. This beer was a light, crisp, and refreshing beer with a hint of peach flavor. Definitely something to enjoy on a hot day. This was my happy place drink. Beer Battered Mushrooms - The shrooms here were better than most other German establishments I've dined at. Reasonably sized mushrooms with a non overly heavy batter. Portions were bigger than expected and would readily satisfy a group of four. Jägerschnitzel - A fair sized slab of fried pork goodness smothered in a red wine mushroom gravy. The pork loin was a good thickness and not an overly pounded thin cutlet. Breading was good, but didn't stick much to the protein. Gravy was just okay in my opinion and had a hint of sourness to it for some reason. Not a terrible entree but wasn't mind blowing either. Currywurst - The bratwurst with this meal was a solid portion of meat that was full of porky goodness. Curry ketchup had the spice flavoring to it, but wasn't particularly strong. It was a fair entree, nothing mind blowing, but still a good comfort dish. Sides - All the entrees came with a choice of two sides. Fries were just fries... good, but nothing special. Mashed potatoes tasted like the usual suspect, mashed potatoes. Potato salad was properly cooked and prepared with some simple vinegary and cream flavors. Red cabbage tasted like vinegared red cabbage. All in all, the sides were just okay. Everything was for the most part clear cut of what was good and just okay. In that terms, there seemed to be a strange and wildly large chasm between what was okay and good in terms of the food. I was satisfied at the end of the meal, but at the same time not unhappy nor super happy with my meal. I was just... satisfied/okay. Food felt a bit overpriced for what we received, otherwise this establishment felt more like a one-and-done type of place.

Beware The "Pastrami Reuben"…read more I saw that hundreds of people on Yelp had reviewed Cibolo Creek Brewing and overall ratings were over 4 stars. I should have done a bit more reading and looking at the pictures. We stopped in on a mid-afternoon Sunday in early June. First impression upon entering through the front door was confusion. It was not really clear what the process was to order and get a seat. We approached the bar area and then noticed the "order here and seat yourself" signs. Several people came in behind us and so we felt a bit rushed to order. There were several craft beers on tap, but I was told I could not get a flight at the moment. I was able to get a taster, but with all the people behind me waiting to order, I didn't feel I had time to find out more about the beers before committing to a 16oz pour or lose my place in line. Shame on me for not doing my homework. We tried "The BEST Burger" and the "Pastrami Reuben", both with fries and two beers for close to $60 plus tip. The burger wasn't the best. It was sort of "meh". The homemade fries were good. The so-called Reuben was closer to a brisket sandwich than an actual Reuben. The meat was very mesquite-wood-smokey and then appeared to have been fried on a grill (definitely not steamed). It was very chewy despite being thinly sliced and had NONE of the flavor good pastrami has. The menu claims the meat is tri-tip, but tri-tip is known to be a tender cut. The meat on that sandwich was NOT tender. Cibolo Creek Brewery is in a great location (which sort of explains the prices) right next to the Cibolo Creek Trail and River Road Park and they do have a nice covered outdoor seating area with large family-style picnic tables. I may return to sample a few more of their beers and see if there is something I like better on the menu.

Food - 4 Stars Atmosphere - 4 Stars…read moreService - 5 Stars We make regular trips to Fredericksburg and decided to try this place on the way. It is a part of Carter Creek Resort and Winery. After driving through the entry gate, I had mixed emotions. The entry road was not that well maintained, we passed several large parking lots that weren't really that well maintained either. There were some grape vines in view and they were in really poor shape, which made me question what the rest of the facility would be like. I am pleased to say that we were pleasantly surprised. The rest of the facility that we experienced was well maintained and pretty "cool". There was a really large grassy area accompanied by a covered Pavilion when you first walk in. We did not go into the Cottages that were for rent in the resort, but they looked cute from the outside. The restaurant decor was nice and the service was excellent. The food was good but not off the chain. The food was kind of "fusion" inspired and not your regular run-of-the-mill menu items, although there were a few of those, also. Most of the main entrees were a little bit pricey, in my opinion. We were there for lunch and so they did offer some lunch items but we opted for a main entree. The lunch options were more reasonably priced and consisted mostly of hamburgers, sandwiches, and salads. I opted for the Birria Beef Stroganoff (Yep, there's that "Fusion" thing). While it had good flavor, there was no "Stroganoff" component to it (that I could tell), other than a small dollop of sour cream that I discovered towards the end of my dish. It was more like Pasta Alfredo with Birria Beef on top. My wife had the BLT salad with the addition of grilled chicken. The dish was sort of anemic and lacked any creativity. In summary, I would go back, but would try some different menu items. Since we were there for lunch on a Friday there wasn't any other sort of entertainment other than the wine tasting room. We did notice that they have a comedy show and some live entertainment on weekend nights.
