We were sat immediately on a Saturday at 12:30. Not too crowded and very easy to pick our own table. I went with my husband and little kids - we all were able to enjoy just sitting around and pointing out the decor via an "I spy" game. The food was delivered and the portions are huge! We weren't able to finish our plates, but the food itself was satisfying and delicious. I was able to check off my "German food" craving for a little while.

Good location, nice atmosphere professional staff , delicious food. I love the ribeye The way was cooked. Melts in your mouth with a nice barbecue taste at a very good deal.

Unfortunately, this dining experience was extremely disappointing. The food lacked both quality and presentation. The canned corn was unappealing, the spetzels were overcooked and watery, with neither the taste nor texture they should have had, and the roast beef was simply not enjoyable to eat. Overall, the meal fell far short of expectations. I would not recommend dining here, as I ultimately threw away the entire meal.

My wife and I visited Fredericksburg on our way back from South Padre Island. We decided to have dinner at the Auslander, which was close to our hotel. Overall, it was a good experience. We ordered the Schnitzel Wiener Art and the Bratwurst platters. We chose red cabbage and the German potato salad for one of the entrees and sauerkraut and potato salad for the other entree. The sides were just average. Both plates came with a warm dinner roll and some butter. The Schnitzel was nicely breaded and fried to a golden crisp. The pork cutlet was a generous portion and tasty. The bratwurst was also a large portion but was somewhat bland. A few packets of Gulden mustard were offered. Some mustard made in-house would have been a nicer touch. They had a decent selection of beers and wines. We got the H.P. Dunkel on draft and a glass of red zin, both of which paired nicely with the meal. We were too stuffed to have any dessert but they do serve apple strudel and German chocolate cake. The service was attentive and friendly. Prices were reasonable and the atmosphere was rustic but comfortable.

This is a very relaxing, comfortable outdoor hangout the backspace, and the picnic table area was relaxing and inviting if you had a dog, you could bring your dog with you. Our server was knowledgeable and she was right on. We never had to wait. We never had to tell her twice and the food was actually pretty good! If you happen to be in town, are you looking for a place to just hang out and relax have some snacks this is a place to go. My only complaint is that they need to bring the food out faster because some of our dishes were cold.

We visited The Auslander in downtown Fredericksburg for dinner, and while I'm not usually a big fan of German cuisine, we still had a good time. We ended up ordering a burger, fries, and a couple of salad options pretty standard fare. What really made the experience memorable was the ambience and the attentive service. The space has a cozy, lively vibe, perfect for groups or casual hangouts. We were celebrating a friend's birthday that night, and the staff went out of their way to make it special even with the birthday girl sitting right in front of us, the waitress managed to keep the surprise intact and brought out a lovely dessert with her name written on the plate. Super thoughtful! Overall, it was a fun and smooth dining experience, especially great if you're in town with friends and want a relaxed spot with friendly service and a festive vibe.

How does a trip to Fredericksburg miss out a visit to a Biergarten and that's how I ended up at the Auslander. A proper traditional Biergarten filled the aroma of Sauerkraut, I wish they had accommodated more veggie options since the potato soup had meat. The battered mushrooms had meat oil. They had a beyond meat burger but they were kind enough to make a meaty sandwich without meat. My order: German chocolate cake The Rueben with grilled mushrooms w/o beef Mac and cheese The chicken salad The portion sizes were amazing. Also came with fries. The best part was the rye bread and how they grilled the sandwich without meat and with cheese and mushrooms and still tasted good. I had a piece of chicken with the sandwich but I didn't realize until I ate it. The salad had grilled chicken and came with a dressing but the portion was too large but it made sense. Loved their selection of local beers and German beers and had peach mimosa. The German chocolate cake was a cherry on the top and you didn't feel it was too sweet and don't get bored after a few bites. The three star was because the outdoor seating was not well ventilated, and there was this large person seating us all and he didn't come out well, didn't smile and wasn't nice to us!! The waitress on the other hand was the sweetest!

You've gotta get German food at least once when you're in Fredericksburg! So we picked the Auslander this time around. Turns out the Auslander means "the Outsider" so we tourists really fell into their trap. I think this place really delivers in what you expect German food to be, with schnitzel, sausages, and strudel. And the servers are so friendly. But the food itself was ok. I think certain menu items were pretty good, but it's kind of hit or miss. One disappointment was that I really wanted to try the seasonal goulash. And since it was on the menu, I assumed it was in season. But sadly, it was not. We tried: Beer battered mushrooms - these were honestly so good. The batter was so light and crispy. And the ranch sauce was delicious, I think I could have eaten the whole plate. (but also I just really love mushrooms in general) Schmorbraten - this was my favorite entree. The meat was so thin and tender. And the mashed potatoes were delicious. This is an excellent choice in general, but especially when you don't want something heavy and fried like the schnitzel. Jaegershnitzel - I feel like this is usually what I think of when I hear schnitzel. The curry was a bit on the sweeter side, so just depends on if you like that or not. Schwenkbraten - this is also probably more for someone that doesn't want to eat something heavy/fried. But I wasn't really a fan of the texture on this one. It was like the texture of ground pork in the shape of a patty. Spicy Texas schnitzel - this one was also ok. It wasn't too spicy, but the flavors tasted more Asian than German. The sauce reminded me of a mix of duck sauce and sweet Thai chili sauce. It was super sweet, and didn't really hit the spot. My friends also compared it to tasting like orange chicken. Chicken schnitzel - this was my favorite of the schnitzels. The chicken was pretty juicy, and crispy, and the curry wasn't as sweet. Apple strudel - I'm not a big dessert person, so I thought this was okay too. It was definitely sweet though! The cream kind of helped cut through the heaviness, but I feel like it would be even better with vanilla ice cream.

Happy smiling faces serving up delicious German favorites My schnitzel was delicious and came with German potato salad which my wife stole immediately and red cabbage which Randy loves if you've watched A Christmas Story, a roll and butter are there if you somehow have room My wife got the chicken schnitzel which is a bit crunchier than the pork version. She was smart and upgraded to the spatzel as one of her sides ($2 well spent in my opinion) We were driving so opted for Diet Coke but the table next to us got the huge steins of German beer. Plenty of indoor, outdoor, and covered open air seating, whatever your preference. Even though we live 4 hours away, my wife wanted to go back the next day for lunch.

Our party of 13 was seated immediately for lunch, sitting @ 3 tables next to each other. Service was quick and friendly. I ordered the German meatballs with spaetzle, delicious, better than food I've had in Munich. Also had some fried dill pickles which were tangy & tasty.

There's inside and outside seating as well as bar. You enter and they hand you the menus. Despite the red neon order here sign right next to the entrance counter, it's not readily apparent that you do indeed order there. And I noticed it wasn't just us waiting for someone to come take our order as we waited. You seat yourself so unless they tell you directly to order at the counter you could miss it. So when the red neon sign finally clicked in my head, I went over to order. But while I was ordering two more parties came up and asked if they needed to order there. So maybe some more clarity up front outside the sign haha I ordered the Cali burger, my son had a burger, and they had a fajita special that his mom ordered. We also ordered a pretzel. Obviously being a pub they had beers. Non/alcoholic was a limited assorted of coke fair. Only unsweetened tea. No lemonade. Pretzel was soft and delicious. My son's mom loved the fajitas and the beans that came with them. The burgers were also really good. Bread nice and soft. Patties a good thickness. We all enjoyed what we had. No fries though. You get chips for your potato fix. The staff was also very friendly. It wasn't too loud in there and we were able to talk easily. If you're hungry don't pass them by.

We'll definitely return P.S. Your sticker is now on my cooler.

On a whim about a month ago, I planned a vacation to Fredericksburg based solely around how much I…read moreloved the brewery when I lived there with my dad 32 years ago, when I was 14. The brewery was the first place I ever had a scotch egg, my dad would get a small beer flight, maybe we'd get a brat, he made it fun. I'm pretty sure it had just opened back then. We got into town, checked in at the Trueheart Hotel, and immediately walked to the brewery because I was so excited. I probably went in to this with the unrealistic expectation that it would be the same as when I was a kid. It had a great start. The hostess was nice, and our server was, too. I wish we had gotten to sit in the back room with the long tables, We started with the beer flight and a scotch egg. The beer flight was okay. I was expecting really good German beers, mind-blowing, but these were just fine. A pale ale, an IPA, a flat porter were on the list, just not a memorable selection, although the red ale was good. The flight was a good price, though. For our appetizer, I wasn't expecting such a small scotch egg for $9. I mean, it was really small. I've been to several places around my area for scotch eggs, and they're usually $11-12 for two and they're properly sized. But we're on vacation and I wanted nostalgia so fine. It was delicious, and the creole mustard the scotch egg comes with was divine. More on that later. For our meals we tried both schnitzels. I was disappointed they don't have spaetzle, I'm pretty sure they used to. My boyfriend had the schinken and I had the jager. I don't like ham but his was infinitely better because of the gravy. The gravy on the jager schnitzel I got was heavy with some seasoning, maybe sage. It's all I could taste, and I couldn't just push the gravy off because my pork was fried to death. I barely ate any of mine. The sides we got (you get two per plate) were German potato salad, fries, onion rings, and vegetable medley. The fries and onion rings were great, especially when dipping in the creole mustard we saved from the scotch egg. The German potato salad is supposed to be sweet and sour and my boyfriend usually likes it, but this was way sweet, he wasn't a fan. The vegetable medley was good, but seemed really out of place as a side, normally with schnitzel you'd expect green beans or a salad or something, we got broccoli and squash. They did have a side salad, but it was $5. Not sure why a side salad couldn't just replace the two sides for no upcharge. I will say the rolls were awesome. At the end our server let us sit and hang out for a few minutes, he didn't rush us. We asked if they sell the creole mustard in bottles but they don't, so he said we could pay $5 for a togo container of it. We got probably a cup, so I was fine with that, I really loved it that much. We paid, I noticed he charged us $5 for tarter sauce that we didn't have, figured it was the only way to ring up the mustard. We left with our prized creole mustard. Cut to this weekend when we opened it to make a sandwich, and what we actually got was tarter sauce, so somewhere along the way he'd forgotten what we asked for. We live 200 miles from Fredericksburg, there's no fixing that, but maybe that's on me because I should have checked it. They really should sell bottles of that mustard, it's very good. Overall, it just wasn't the experience I was expecting. It's not the same, it's been over 30 years so I totally understand, and I did try to be fair with my critique. It wasn't great, it was just okay.

Since there are no business owner responses, the problems could be persisting. However, we've enjoyed our time here in the past so we thought we'd try it again. We got here at 5 pm on a Thursday and the place was mostly empty. That usually translates into better service and likely a better prepared meal as well. Sure enough, this theory was correct. We had two craft beers on the table within three minutes followed by Ruben fritters five minutes after that. The menu here is pretty simple with the expected German twist to it. We just stuck to a salad and burger. The salad was fresh and good, but the burger was pretty average and you have to add your own mayo and mustard. Even by adding cheese and mushrooms it still fell within the three star range and the fries were just OK. The beers were correct to style, but the hoppier beers were slightly tame. It's pretty much three stars overall, but the service was great so 31/2*. I'd still come back and try something else off the menu before the weekend and before 6.
