Great place, quiet and calm. Highly recommend the jager schnitzel with a few extra sides and rye bread.

This restaurant was very conveniently located and had a pet friendly outdoor patio. We wanted German food and needed to take our dog so this place worked. Food was just mediocre, Service was also mediocre. Had a very small menu with typical, nothing unique in the style of German food. The schnitzel I had was good, though. read more

Been to Fredericksburg several times and never been here before, and now we know why. My Wife and I and friends stopped in for dinner. We walked in, and there were not many people here. Were told to sit anywhere, and we did. Our server (forgot her name) came over with menus. We ordered our waters and looked over the menu. This is a small menu, not many choices. We waited at least 10 minutes before our server came back. My Wife ordered their "Cheese with Potato Soup" for her and a loaf of their Bread for all of us to share. I ordered the special they have on the chalkboard outside, the Sausage Plate / Smoked Polish, Knackwurst & Bratwurst Sausages. Served with German Potato Salad & Sauerkraut. Our friends our sharing the "Schnitzels Plate" - Pan fried Schnitzel (breaded), topped with Lemon, with German Potato Salad & Red Cabbage. When our dinner was served, it all looked pretty good. My Wife's Cheese Soup is Rich and Creamy with lots of Cheese, but very little Potato. I had some and I thought it was pretty good - rich & creamy. The Rye Bread Loaf with lots of butter was a hit with all of us. My Sausages were kind of bland, except for the spicy one, which I think was the Bratwurst. All the sausages seemed to be boiled, with hardly any flavor at all. Loved the German Potato Salad, which had a little sweetness to it - Very Uniquelylicious. Our friends seemed to enjoy the Schnitzel plate, and didn't know what to think about the German Potato Salad - it is different. Service was slow and overall, the Der Lindenbaum is overpriced for what you get. read more

My 2nd try trying German food since childhood, and I honestly don't think I'm much of a fan of it as I thought. It was still good, though, so I encourage you to try. Just not my favorite. However, the environment is absolutely stunning, clean, and the staff were so kind! I ordered the wiener schnitzel to go & picked up my order. read more

The atmosphere took me back to Mainz Germany over 40 years ago where I met my husband. We were blown away with the menu when we looked at it online. It didn't disappoint. We took one bite of each dish and immediately were transported back to Germany. It was so good. Tender Schnitzel, curry chicken was an unexpected delight as it was something we'd never had before. So full that we couldn't finish nearly half. We had to get desert to go: Black Forest Cake and German Chocolate Cake. The server was patient because we were so excited, we couldn't decide. It was all we'd hoped for and it's worth the drive from San Antonio to come back many times. Loved it. read more

A German dining experience since 1977 yes please! I was with my friend in Fredericksburg and decided to go eat at this restaurant. I really love how old it looks and seems their recipes haven't changed since they first opened. Our waiter told us this about the soup. When you first enter the first section of the restaurant is empty. I got worried for a moment but when you go to the back the place is packed! Their menu is large but I was there for one thing! The schnitzels! I got the pork one with the mushroom sauce on top and one sausage as a side. I really did enjoy my meal! It will be my go to spot to bring people visiting out of town read more

In Fredericksburg there is a spot, Where wieners sizzle, thick and hot. Der Lindenbaum, oh bless this place, One bite and I questioned my whole life's pace. The tater salad? Warm and crazy, Like a hug from a German lunch lady. It whispers, "Ja, you need more beer," Then vanishes like it was never here. But the kraut - dear Lord - a sour delight, It polka'd through my taste buds all night. Crunchy, tangy, borderline divine, Like angels fermented it in brine. Five stars, no question, not even a maybe. That meal hugged my soul like a drunk German baby. If heaven has bratwurst, they cater from here... Now pass the mustard and bring me more beer! read more

After being in Germany for a few months a few years ago, I always seek German cuisine as often as I can. I stumbled upon this place with my girlfriend as we were visiting and found it to be a good experience overall. The food tasted great. I would say most things were as accurate as you could get, unfortunately I haven't been to a german restaurant that has the same types of sausages as Germany, but this restaurant has been the closest by far! read more

Authentic German food! Cute location along Main Street in a historic building that looks to have been a bank (vault door still there). Lots of seating options in a comfortable and welcoming environment (you feel like you are in someone's home). Great service from the moment you walk in. Food came out very quickly. Lots of delicious dishes. Everything that was ordered was lovely. The desserts were very tasty as well. read more

Very authentic German cuisine! The food was great and the service was very quick and friendly. Both ladies working and serving had noticeably (to me anyway) slight German accents, which I enjoyed. This restaurant was recommended by locals even though it was rated slightly below the other German restaurants. So glad we came here first!! Enjoyed Fredricksburg immensely! read more

This place is nice, quaint escape from the loudness and the business of Main Street. Pretty small restaurant but excellent food and service. The Burgermeister platte was filling. Their take on German potato salad is very unique: it had a mashed potatoes consistency to it with a little sweetness and not much vinegar at all. Smoked pork chop was really dry, potatoes ok and the sauerkraut very tasty. Jägerschnitzel without any flavor, how can you screw something so simple up. The person next to us had the same feelings about this most tasteless meal. For gods sake could you please put some effort into preparing these epic dishes more authentically???? Server was not the happiest person in the business. Would not recommend this place read more

Good German restaurant. We went with friends who had never had German food before and they enjoyed it. I had the Burgermeister Platte which is the sausage plate. Polish, bratwurst and knackwurst. All very good and the mustard was on point. The German potato salad was excellent. My wife had the Jager Schnitzel. I thought the pork was a tad dry but the mushroom sauce helped. Her friend had the Gulasch and she enjoyed it. I had a bite and it was good. Unique flavor. My buddy had the Kassler Rippchen, a smoked pork chop. He thought it was good but said that it tasted more like a ham. The German bread is good. Maybe a bit dry but everyone enjoyed it. We shared a cucumber salad which had pickled cucumbers. It was refreshing and the cucumbers exceptional. I could have eaten a bowl of those bad boys! It was a bit warm in the restaurant. I didn't see any type of AC or air circulation system. read more

Food is way better then other german restraunts, definetly home made. The potato salad is to die for.

My hubby and I went for late lunch about 2pm. There were about 4 other tables with guests being served. It's a small place compared to others in town. It's an old building & business. Rock walls but not much decor for a German business. At first I kind of had a bad feeling about everything. There was only one waitress. We were seated immediately by a young man who gave us our menus and left. Took a little while for our waitress to come to get our drink order then another little while to take our orders. She was very nice even though she was pretty busy. But we really were not in a hurry so that was fine. The prices on everything were average prices BUT the German beers (bottles) were $9 and higher! Maybe that's normal? Our food came out pretty soon. My hubby had a bratwurst plate with sauerkraut & German potato salad. I had the Jager Schnitzel plate with purple kraut & German potato salad. We enjoyed it all! Everything was very good! I looked around at other customers and they all seemed to be enjoying their food too.We will be back for sure! read more

I am originally from Chicago and had access to delicious, traditional German restaurants. My review and info is based on my knowledge skills and experiences from other restaurants there. I was one of two tables when I arrived on an early Saturday afternoon. I always tell the "busyness" of the restaurant because sometimes that can effect quality. The restaurant was recommended to me by a local person that I asked "Which restaurant am I going to for good traditional German food, I'm from elsewhere." They work at the Pacific museum around the block. I ordered the Bürgermeister Plate. The sausage is from a local German butcher shop and includes a smoked polish sausage, a bratwurst and a knackwurst with sauerkraut and German potato salad. I must inform you the potato salad is not traditional with sliced potatoes and sauce but a mashed potato. IT WAS THE PERFECT COMPLIMENT. So please be aware it's probably different than what you expect, but I believe you will appreciate the texture compared to the traditional style. (The flavor is there.) I had a draft pilsner that almost hurt my throat to drink it was so cold. I had a draft Oktoberfest with my meal that as I ate, I legitimately had goose bumps. It arrived hot from the kitchen. I followed with a cup of coffee, black, cause it's good coffee. I look forward to my next visit to Fredericksburg and will come back to try something else on the menu. For traditional sausage and beer, . They prefer cash and debit, there is a credit card processing fee, that's why they prefer cash or debit, no fees. read more

We had the sausage plate special (knockwurst, bratwurst and Polish sausage) with hot potato salad (mashed potatoes) and sauerkraut along with 2 house salads. The brats were terrific and the potato salad was delicious. For dessert, we had strawberry cheesecake. It had some kind of graham cracker crust. One of the best cheesecakes i've ever had. Wish we had found this place before eating at another nearby German restaurant. Will definitely eat here again!!! read more

Server was prompt and friendly. Authentic German cuisine. Topped it off with delicious black forest cake!

My goodness. Firstly, the band playing next door could be heard loudly and clearly inside this restaurant; for some reason the restaurant kept their music on which was nerve-wracking. I ordered the Weinerschitzel and a cup of potato soup. It took about twenty minutes for the food to arrive with only one other table seated. When our food arrived, the soup was in a bowl, not a cup, and tasted rancid. I put it aside and tried the schnitzel - bland, soggy, and the meat tasted off. When the waitress came by, I said I'm sorry, but I can't eat this. She said that we still needed to pay for it. My gf tried to politely inform her that the food tasted like it was spoiled and the waitress got louder, insisting that she could take off the soup, but that we had to "pay something" and couldn't "just walk in here, eat our food, and then refuse to pay because it's not to your liking." I tried to explain that if it just wasn't my taste, I would still pay, but that the food was not edible, and that I was happy to speak with whoever I needed to in order to explain the issue. Her response was that "times are hard" and they are a local business, so I was required to pay - almost yelling at this point. I couldn't believe the level of professionalism and stated firmly that I would not pay for one spoonful of soup and two bites from the schnitzel; I had given a bite to my gf to all her opinion. The girl threw up her hands and said it was fine just go. I feel bad, but this odd certainly not the same restaurant I came to in previous years and loved. As far as the local restaurant argument, we went across the street and the food was phenomenal. read more

When we walked into this restaurant, it was like going back in time. It looked just like my grandmother's house; in fact, I'm 99% sure she had the exact same chairs and table. It was surreal. Schnitzel was crispy and not greasy and the mushroom gravy was quite good. The potatoes had an odd sweet taste; not really what I was expecting. It's a fairly limited menu. But if you're looking for German food then it should fit the bill. In my opinion it was only OK. read more

It's my "must eat" place in Fredericksburg. Has lots of old world charm... like eating in Oma's cabin. I always get the bratwurst platter with extra kraut. The chocolate cake is amazing as well. Pretty moist and plenty sweet but not overbearing. The old German women who work here are quintessentially German. They aren't necessarily sweet or loving to you right away. You may have to earn their affection but they will always give you good service. The younger crowd that works here on other days are more regularly sweet and attentive. The building itself is a historic building and has a placard outside explaining the history. Skip the touristy shit and get your buns in here to wedge some sausage in em. read more

Since we don't know much about German food, we just trust what Yelp has to say. We picked Des Lindenbaum because of the decent reviews as well as the German looking name. Upon recommendation from the waitress, we ordered these three items: Wurgermeiter platte (sausage platter), Wiener schnitzel (cutlet pork), and goulash, plus a salad. The sausage platter came with three kinds of sausages: Polish sausage, knockwurst, and bratwurst. All three sausages were nicely grilled and browned. The waitress pointed out to us which was which. But we forgot about it right away as we just couldn't wait to try. They all tasted great. However, I was expecting the texture to be more "meaty" instead of the plain hot-dog like texture. They all tasted good. Wiener schnitzel (cutlet pork) was fine. The pork was nicely breaded and fried. I really like the brown mushroom sauce, which went deliciously with the pork. Of all the dishes, I liked the goulash best. The meat was tender and chunky. The thick sauce was rich and flavorful. We also got a large salad to share. It has romaine lettuce, cucumbers with a dill sauce, carrots, cherry tomatoes. All veggie were very fresh. We loved the homemade German potato salad, which tastes lightly sweet. Overall, we enjoyed the food and the decor although the portion could have been more generous. read more

Overall a good experience. Very friendly staff. Started with a beer and we shared the bread basket. Several German beers on tap. They also have some bottles plus wine. Rather small menu. Amazing food and the staff was attentive and friendly. Fresh baked bread, and the best sauerkraut I've ever had.

Having never lived in Germany and currently living in a town with an excellent German restaurant, I can say with no authority, that it was good German food. The mashed potatoes were oddly sweet (to me) but I realize that regardless of nationally, food preparation will differ by region. (For example I wouldn't consider Southern Mexican food authentic if I'd only eaten Mexican food from the Northern regions). My friend who accompanied me is German, and they swore up and down that the Paprika Schnitzle tasted exactly like the one their grandma used to make. I think I saw them shed a tear when they admitted that. The only drawback were the prices. I understand it's a tourist town and they can afford to increase prices, but goodness the $22 plates hurt my feelings. read more
