I've met Vicky, the founder of the pub during my trip. There is not much to review about. Southern Texas has a lot of German towns and this is one of them. Heavy metal showcases has been happening every weekend she said. Once in the blue moon heavy metal comes in everyone lives especially Cowboy from hell flashed back my childhood. Cocktails are great. The vibrancy, revolution and power of Luxembourg flag is hanging there. Even her dad was American, as European nationalism, I strongly feel her passion of Europe rather than Murica :) ( this is typical for Europeans ) All Texans welcomed the badass sisters which that is true Americans things to do ! My wife and I stopped by for a drink on a Thursday night. This place is small and intimate. The music isn't too loud, so you can have a conversation with having to scream. The drink menu is good. I had the Devils Candy and it was superb. Fun place. Recommended. read more

Was totally shocked when we walked in off of Main St. After spending 2 days in all of the F*Burg quaint shops and German restaurants, Der Daiwel was kind of like suddenly stepping into another place. Found this little gem off Main Street. It's a heavy metal bar with a red light ambiance inside. Great drinks and great music that isn't overpoweringly loud so you can still talk with friends. Easily the best spot in town. Its a punk bar, but the music is at a level where having a discussion is easy. Its comfortable and has some house drinks worth checking out. Best Metal Bar Ever. Love this place. Came to Fredericksburg on an overnight and happened upon this gem dedicated to metal music and its fans. Upon entering I heard the soothing sounds of Motörhead. Promptly ordered a beer (definitely not a domestic) and reveled in the dulcet tones of hard driving guitars and head pounding drums. Not only were there album covers and tickets to shows all over the place. There were posters and T-shirts of awesome metal bands. The owner was there serving up wonderful drinks. She also had a deep appreciation for metal music. In fact, she seen Machinehead seven times! This is by far my favorite bar in Texas. Not only my favorite bar. But a bar dedicated to all things metal!!!! If you love booze and you love metal music. Make the pilgrimage here. Btw. Ask her what the name of the bar means. read more

Bruh the lady that owns this joint is soooo fire, sweetest little German metal head I've ever met. One of the few bars that stay open late, so you get the Fredericksburg locals in there getting rowdy, but 10/10 would recommend. Also, the beer selection is pretty slick as well. If you're tired of the pseudo hipsterism of the whole town, and especially the few tuneless local bands and sole guitar/vocal douches that about, this venue actually provides really good music of the heavy variety (hard rock, metal) in a very well designed lounge setting. You can also find some interesting metal themed brews, like Tout Le Monde (Megadeth) and the Iron Maiden signature beers. Ultra friendly staff that knows how to mix a stiff drink. This was a pleasant little surprise in Fredericksburg! Who would have thought to plot a rock bar smack in the middle of all that is the TX Hill Country? Well, the owners of Der Daiwel (which I am told means The Devil in German) did just that and honestly it's a nice change of pace! The are presently serving Iron Maiden's Trooper beer but won't be for much longer. Honestly I tried it and didn't care for it but I am not a beer drinker. Totally unexpected place for a town such as Fredericksburg! This is definitely the place to go if you want to disconnect for a while. The place is run by three Luxembourgers who have a real passion for their bar, music and the US. They have local and international beers and spirits you want find in other places in town. I really liked this place. 4.5 stars The owners work the bar and are cool to chat with. The décor, cleanliness, and seating are spot-on. The chairs have lower back support so they're really comfy. The décor is rock-themed and tastefully done. Rock music playing at the perfect volume for conversing without the need to shout. The only thing that threw me were the covers on all the alcohol bottles. This is typically done for overnight storage and removed for service... but I also saw this at another bar in Fredericksburg, so I wonder if that's a thing they do. It's a more appetizing display without them. I was very happy to see the bartender cut off an annoying guy that had too much to drink. This was a really nice break from the typical Fredericksburg with all of the elements you'd expect from a quality bar. I was also excited to hear Rammstein over the stereo :) read more

Fredricksburg gets an A+ for having a rock n roll bar. They call themselves a metal bar. I don't know. They had some metal, but also had good rock n roll. So, don't worry about head banging and ear drums bleeding. It's not like that. Didn't hear any screamo. But, on the positive side, how many bars will play Rammstein? That was cool. The drinks were reasonably priced. The music wasn't too loud. You could comfortably carry on a conversation. But, if you wanted to stop to listen, it was plenty loud to enjoy the tunes. Being in the middle of nowhere, I don't know what kind of crowd to expect. But, it seemed like normal everyday people that don't care for country music, which is mostly all you can find in this part of Texas, hang out here. The owner was interesting to talk to. She is from Luxembourg. She and her sister fell in love with the little German town of Fredericksburg, so they opened this metal bar. The music is loud enough to hear, but you can carry on a conversation. Owners have a true love for metal, despite occasionally playing mainstream rock. We talked about the concerts she went to in Germany. I loved feeling like I was transported to Europe for a bit! When I heard there was a metal bar in Fredericksburg, I thought, "Now THAT has to be the most odd yet fun concept for a business in Fredericksburg I've ever heard!" So naturally, we had to try it out. Sadly, it wasn't what we were expecting. When we walked in, I guess I was expecting lots of metal music coming in over the speakers, but instead we heard---Green Day? Some other '00s pop rock/"punk" bands? I think I also expected more metal memorabilia, but it was basically just Metallica and Wolfmother posters (and other metal bands) stuck haphazardly on the dark walls and ceiling. Not everyone can afford a metal memorabilia collection, though, so I'm not going to hold it against them for that, but I guess I was thinking it'd look less like a metalhead teenager's bedroom. The drink prices were reasonable, and the location was great (perfect hideaway for husbands/boyfriends looking for a respite from the cutesy shopping boutiques lined along Main Street), but I was pretty surprised at the lack of actual metal music being played. Maybe we just came in on a weird night? We'll give it another try when we're back in town, because it sounds like the owners are cool people and the overall vibe of the place is pretty friendly, so I'd like to give it another shot! read more

Wife and I (and some friends) have been here a few times. It's quite a stand-out in Fredericksburg. My parents live right outside of town and when we visit for a few days, we make our way to Der Daiwel. We have caught a few metal shows there, we're big metal heads (look at my avatar lol). The owners are super nice and fairly chatty if you want to engage with them, which is cool. The atmosphere is much more bar-like than anything else in town, which is honestly overrun with your kinda faux cowboy crowd, so it's nice to have something that is different. The owners are from Luxembourg, so it's ironically one of the more authentic places in town, considering it's a "German town". Keep it up. We haven't been there in a while, but it's a place we hope is around for a long time so we can continue stopping in. read more
