The tacos, the cup of corn and the fish and chips were out of this world. We may have been super hungry but both my husband and I agreed the food was delicious. Give this food truck a try.

    Delicious food!!

I genuinely wanted to like Nurys on Main. I really did. Hope springs eternal, especially in…read moreFredericksburg, where good food is usually a sure bet. Unfortunately, this experience felt less like a restaurant opening and more like a dress rehearsal no one stopped. First problem: location confusion. We went to what turned out to be their second spot--which, crucially, was not called Nurys on the sign. Same ownership, new space, old identity crisis. Walking in felt like entering a building that hadn't yet decided what it wanted to be when it grew up. The lingering aroma? A strange duet of fish, antiseptic, and industrial cleaning agents. Not hunger-inducing. More "urgent care with a fryer." There was no one there, which made sense--it was between brunch and lunch--but somehow the wait for food felt disproportionately long for what arrived. What arrived, sadly, was mediocrity wearing a Tex-Mex costume. They seemed to be aiming for Tex-Mex but landed somewhere closer to Tex-Flex--stretching flavors thin until they snapped. The barbacoa was fatty in a way that suggested less "slow-cooked tradition" and more "glistening regret." It didn't taste authentic, or even especially intentional. Just heavy. The guacamole--perhaps the most unforgivable offense--was bad. Guacamole is avocados, salt, lime, and love. That's it. This had none of the above. The waitstaff wasn't rude, exactly--just possessed by the clear energy of people who would prefer you to finish quickly so they could resume their real lives. Hospitality should feel like an invitation, not a countdown. Now, maybe the original Nurys is wonderful. I hope it is. But if that's the case, why open a second location only to phone it in? Expansion should mean excellence multiplied, not care divided. There are too many good places in Fredericksburg doing things right to settle for something half-hearted. This one wasn't terrible--it was worse. It was forgettable. And that's the real disappointment.

Right away, the service felt off. Our waitress didn't even ask if we wanted drinks before jumping straight to, "Are you ready to order food?" Then she disappeared for long periods, even though we were basically her only table besides one other couple. The food was extremely underwhelming -- basic, barely warm, and nothing memorable. On top of that, there were so many flies inside that we were nonstop swatting them away. And to make matters worse, there was a bug in my drink when it was served to me. That was pretty much the final straw. Overall, a very forgettable and disappointing experience. We probably won't come again, and I would not recommend it.

Overall, 1 of our favorite food stops on this trip! Our order consisted of 1 order of bang bang shrimp, 1 spinach & artichoke dip appetizer, a shared seared salmon dish (not pictured), 1 blackberry margarita (not pictured), & 1 blueberry mule (not pictured). For me, the best part of our order was the bang bang shrimp. If I get to go back I'll just order 2 of those & call it good! The spinach & artichoke appetizer was good, but offered a pretty standard flavor profile. The seared salmon was the best salmon dish I've tasted in a long time, paring nicely with the mashed potatoes & roasted veggies that came with it. Both cocktails were amazing, but my wife said the blackberry margarita was fantastic. The most negative thing about GH was extremely limited indoor seating availability & the lack of reservations, but now you've been warned. It was a short trip for us, but we will be back to GH on our next visit to Fredericksburg for sure.

I ordered the Eggs Benedict, substituting bacon for ham, with a biscuit and gravy on the side. The Eggs Benedict was good. I loved the unexpected touch of Swiss cheese, which added a nice twist to a classic dish. The hollandaise was a little on the sour side, but the bacon was cooked perfectly. The biscuit and gravy was the real star of my meal, so good that I almost wish I had ordered it as my main! Definitely getting that next time. My husband went for The Big Ass Sandwich and loved it. Fair warning- it lives up to its name. It's big, it's messy, and it's absolutely worth it. He said the same thing I was thinking: we need to come back. We'll definitely be returning on our next trip to Fredericksburg. Highly recommend if you're looking for a great breakfast spot with good food and even better service!

The chef toasted the English muffin properly, giving each bite a satisfying crunch. The twin crab cakes were also stellar - moist on the inside and crispy on the outside. I decided to pair it with a classic lime daiquiri, served straight up in a coupe glass and garnished with a slice of dehydrated lime. Our server was a lovely older gentleman, who tried to accommodate us despite issues with the kitchen. The weather was nice and we enjoyed sitting outside with live music. Not so good things: Sitting outside was nice, except the musicians had their music way too loud for the size of the space and it was a restaurant, not a concert venue. We literally had to yell to hear each or the server. The kitchen was backed up so it took forever for our food to arrive. The food was also pretty expensive. We don't visit Fredericksburg very often, but I think we'll stick with Auslander when we want German food.

The castle-like architecture, expansive grounds, and overall atmosphere make it feel like a destination rather than just a brewery. In terms of size and majestic ambiance, it reminded me of Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, New York. We stopped in for lunch on a weekday and still had about a 30-minute wait for a table. Fortunately, that wasn't a problem because we were able to enjoy a beer while waiting and take in the scenery. The property is large enough that exploring it becomes part of the experience. The beer selection is heavily focused on German styles, which was perfect for me. Whether you enjoy lagers, pilsners, bocks, or wheat beers, there is something for every fan of traditional German brewing. One of the fun touches is that many of the beers are available in liter size pours, adding to the authentic beer hall experience. The food menu is inspired by classic German cuisine, but it also offers a wide variety of other options, including some more upscale dishes. This makes it easy for everyone in a group to find something they will enjoy. Everything we ordered was excellent, with generous portions and high-quality ingredients. Beyond the food and beer, the atmosphere is what really makes this place special. The combination of the castle setting, beautiful grounds, German-inspired traditions, and excellent hospitality creates an experience that feels unique and memorable. Overall, this is far more than just a brewery. It's a destination worth visiting whether you're a beer enthusiast or simply looking for a great meal in a remarkable setting. The brewery was the first place I ever had a scotch egg, my dad would get a small beer flight, maybe we'd get a brat, he made it fun. I'm pretty sure it had just opened back then. We got into town, checked in at the Trueheart Hotel, and immediately walked to the brewery because I was so excited. I probably went in to this with the unrealistic expectation that it would be the same as when I was a kid. It had a great start. The hostess was nice, and our server was, too. I wish we had gotten to sit in the back room with the long tables, We started with the beer flight and a scotch egg. The beer flight was okay. I was expecting really good German beers, mind-blowing, but these were just fine. A pale ale, an IPA, a flat porter were on the list, just not a memorable selection, although the red ale was good. The flight was a good price, though. For our appetizer, I wasn't expecting such a small scotch egg for $9. I mean, it was really small. I've been to several places around my area for scotch eggs, and they're usually $11-12 for two and they're properly sized. But we're on vacation and I wanted nostalgia so fine. It was delicious, and the creole mustard the scotch egg comes with was divine. More on that later. For our meals we tried both schnitzels. I was disappointed they don't have spaetzle, I'm pretty sure they used to. My boyfriend had the schinken and I had the jager. I don't like ham but his was infinitely better because of the gravy. The gravy on the jager schnitzel I got was heavy with some seasoning, maybe sage. It's all I could taste, and I couldn't just push the gravy off because my pork was fried to death. I barely ate any of mine. The sides we got (you get two per plate) were German potato salad, fries, onion rings, and vegetable medley. The fries and onion rings were great, especially when dipping in the creole mustard we saved from the scotch egg. The German potato salad is supposed to be sweet and sour and my boyfriend usually likes it, but this was way sweet, he wasn't a fan. The vegetable medley was good, but seemed really out of place as a side, normally with schnitzel you'd expect green beans or a salad or something, we got broccoli and squash. They did have a side salad, but it was $5. Not sure why a side salad couldn't just replace the two sides for no upcharge. I will say the rolls were awesome. At the end our server let us sit and hang out for a few minutes, he didn't rush us. We asked if they sell the creole mustard in bottles but they don't, so he said we could pay $5 for a togo container of it. We got probably a cup, so I was fine with that, I really loved it that much. We paid, I noticed he charged us $5 for tarter sauce that we didn't have, figured it was the only way to ring up the mustard. We left with our prized creole mustard. Cut to this weekend when we opened it to make a sandwich, and what we actually got was tarter sauce, so somewhere along the way he'd forgotten what we asked for. We live 200 miles from Fredericksburg, there's no fixing that, but maybe that's on me because I should have checked it. They really should sell bottles of that mustard, it's very good. Overall, it just wasn't the experience I was expecting. It's not the same, it's been over 30 years so I totally understand, and I did try to be fair with my critique. It wasn't great, it was just okay.

Since there are no business owner responses, the problems could be persisting. However, we've enjoyed our time here in the past so we thought we'd try it again. We got here at 5 pm on a Thursday and the place was mostly empty. That usually translates into better service and likely a better prepared meal as well. Sure enough, this theory was correct. We had two craft beers on the table within three minutes followed by Ruben fritters five minutes after that. The menu here is pretty simple with the expected German twist to it. We just stuck to a salad and burger. The salad was fresh and good, but the burger was pretty average and you have to add your own mayo and mustard. Even by adding cheese and mushrooms it still fell within the three star range and the fries were just OK. The beers were correct to style, but the hoppier beers were slightly tame. It's pretty much three stars overall, but the service was great so 31/2*. I'd still come back and try something else off the menu before the weekend and before 6.
