The interior is very nice- a higher- end seeming bar according to the decor and bones of this place, but a down-to-earth pub with comfort foods and drinks for anyone to feel comfortable. They had a live musician playing 90's hits on his guitar on the night I was there- and also had the Islander/Ranger game on - they even had a big pull down projector screen that they used to stream the game, which was cool. I can see myself enjoying a beer and some apps here. I was here for dinner with a group, though, and it was alright. The food wasn't anything i'd write home about (yet, here I am writing ha!), but it was fine. Our table had the spinach artichoke dip with pita, and at first we were hesitant to have pita instead of chips, but the pita was fried and still warm when it came out. I was a nice combo with the dip! I would definitely recommend the dip if you're in the mood for a warm and hearty app. I had a Shipyard pumpkin beer which was great- love that they had Shipyard on tap! The main course was good but not out of this world- I had a warm pear salad which had goat cheese and glazed pecans. It was definitely tasty and big enough for two people to dive into. Other people at my table had burgers which were also huge and tasty, from what I heard. Overall, good place to come with friends or a date, but it's a bit loud if you're trying to have a convo. Still, 4 stars for me. read more

This establishment is exactly what Patchogue needed imo: a fine dining experience that is casual, yet elevated. The design and spaciousness adds to the overall ambiance. Our waiter Jesse was courteous, warm, professional and attentive. The food and drinks were delicious as well btw :) Stop into James Joyce if you're in Patchogue for a drink at the very least; you'll probably end up staying there instead of bar hopping. P.s. Hi folks, went to Patchogue Village last Sunday to see if there were any new restaurants to Yelp. Patchogue Village has undertaken a wonderful Renaissance in The Last 5 Years, so many new restaurants. James Joyce looked like a wonderful cozy spot to pull up to the bar and have a few shots of Jameson. I was right Jameson seem to be the drink of choice here. Dining at the bar was no problem, our bartender was hospitable and didn't miss a step. A Hot basket of bread was brought to the table followed shortly thereafter by our main courses. Steak was the word for the night my friend and I both got their delicious skirt steak special. My friend had his prepared regular I ordered the marinated. We were both really pleased with our juicy skirt steaks. The onion rings and sweet potato fries were served in nice little baskets. These sides were really delicious the onion rings being wonderfully hot and crunchy and not oily at all. A few drinks later, we were feeling right at home. James Joyce is a beautiful Irish style bar with high ceilings chandeliers and plenty of wood grain. We'll be sure to stop back again when were in Patchogue. James Joyce Bar and Restaurant is certainly Yelp recommended 4 stars. read more

I can't leave no stars? unfair. Worst service i've ever had. I honestly can't believe what just happened to me when I walked in there. I walked in with 15 people during COVID. Risky, ye. But $$$$ to a bartender. We sit and order. One of my friends apparently used to work there. The bartender WHO APPARENTLY IS THE MANAGER talks to my friend so rudely we honestly couldn't believe what we were hearing. She cursed at her and told her she creates a mess. We were all confined to our seats an one corner of the empty restaurant. I'm beyond insulted. I've worked in the industry for over 10 years. My friend no longer works at James Joyce, therefore she is a guest. You should never curse at a guest or make them feel uncomfortable. My friend was on the verge of tears and we left, we will leave our over 20% tip elsewhere. Consider being a little less rude to old employees you don't like. read more

On a date and was pleasantly surprised by a neat saloon look...yes it reminded me of that. I ordered The Impossible burger and it was well presented with a cage of fries lol...tasty tender really enjoyed it and the service was good. Even though I only had 2 dates I would go back there!!! read more

I ordered a Rueben for takeout. When I got home, it had no sauerkraut or thousand island dressing. Not that it mattered because the corned beef was tough and not edible. I called to complain and was told they would credit me the sandwich. Mu name would be left at the front desk and when I ordered again, the credit would be issued. I hadn't been in the area for 2-3 months but called to check about the credit and was told they don't give credit, only gift cards and the person who told me that was misinformed...okay?? Well the girl on the phone said she would have to talk to a manager and would call me back since I had planned on ordering in a little while. Nope...no call back. Stay away and read the reviews! read more

Went here with my girlfriend during Live after 5. Went inside and ordered 2 beers and a vodka/soda ($21) I watched the bartender make the drink and he put less than a shot of vodka in the drink; all club soda. I mentioned to him that i watched him put nothing in it, i couldnt taste anything and i would like him to add more or remake it, which his response was "too bad" and if i want more alcohol, its another $2 on top of the price that i already paid. I'll be going to other bars from now on where i actually get what i pay for and dont have to deal with a short, chubby bartender straight out of college that doesnt know how to make a drink. read more

If I could give a zero I would have selected that. The manager I believe her name is Stephanie is not a leader and absolutely overworks and under compensates her staff. After sitting in the establishment and watching who I believe the owners speak to and treat their staff, I can confidently say I will never be returning and I would never recommend anyone to visit this place. If you're a fan of watching people get belittled then and only then will this be the place to visit. read more

I wasn't going to leave a review but I private messaged first and was told they would let the owner know .. but no response as to getting the wrong item .. nothing they can do about the bad service as what's done is done but a refund for the purchase of a vegan burger would be nice since they gave me something that was definitely meat and definitely not what matched the description of the vegan burger .. I give them 3 stars because the staff was nice just not efficient .. 8 minutes to place a to go order for 4 items with no modifications because the hostess didn't know the menu and put me on hold continuously to check with the manager .. and then I sat at the bar for 30 minutes with no drink in a mostly empty restaurant and 8 other people at the bar .. all I wanted was a bottle of beer ... and then the wrong item to top it all off read more

I have never ate here but I've been a few times at night. Kudos to this place for using bamboo straws instead of plastic! That really makes me happy, I wish more bars would do this. Nice place, a young crowd, but overall fun with friendly staff. read more

A local Irish restaurant located in Patchogue with beautiful open feel. Gorgeous lighting and a very pleasant staff. We had the privilege of having Matthew as our server and he was very nice. We were a large group of high maintenance lovable people. I think at times we may have been a bit challenging but he held his cool and remained professional and courteous at all times. The drinks were lovely and the food had mixed reviews but I guess you cant please all the people all the time.. lol. We ordered the pulled pork nachos and when it came to the table we all looked at it and questioned if we got the right thing because we couldn't see any pulled pork from the top so we did inquire about it before we dug in and they said the pork was under the nachos. My advice would be to at least place some on top so you don't have people guessing and I believe it would make for a better display. They were very good and we all enjoyed them so it really comes down to presentation. We also orders the chicken bites from the appetizers and they were very good. I had the steak medallion on brioche and it was delicious but my sister in laws both had the Ruben that was supposed to come on Marble Rye, as you can see from the pictures that it clearly looks ( and tasted) like white bread . This should have been communicated to Our server after we ordered so he could communicate this back to us. It would have given an option to change the order according or at least know what your getting. I feel as a past waitress myself that it should have also been noticed by Mathew before he brought it to the table. When we asked about it he actually hadn't noticed . The kitchen and the wait staff need stronger communication. He did agree that it was not the usually Marble Rye but when you go to an Iris restaurant it is just disappointing not to have the advertised bread especially on Mother's Day. It was very early in the day so I don't think they ran out that day. That was definitely a little disappointing. My brother in law ordered a regular hamburger cooked medium and it didn't have a hint of any pink and when I asked him about how it was he said it was very dry. We also ordered dessert and again mixed reviews. We ordered the warm apple crisp with ice cream and it was stone cold when it arrived, I did tell Mathew and he did ask if he could take it back and heat it but at that point Everyone was having their dessert and I didn't want to wait and have my dessert by myself so I asked him to take it away and he did take it off the bill but he also did agree it was very cold and he apologized. We had the cookie pocket and it was good but the gold was the Brownie.... OMG.... definitely order this... read more

This is the fourth time we have been to James Joyce and the last time. The blonde bar manager can never get a drink to a customer sitting at a dinner table within 15 minutes...she is busy talking to her bar customers. It has happened four times we have been there. And we come when it is NOT busy, like 3-4 in the pm. We have watched her, and she simply does not respond to drink orders...she is busy gabbing away with bar customers. She needs to be replaced. read more

Ok, we first dined here before COVID, for dinner. We ordered chicken dishes and both were over cooked. Chicken was dry. A friend that works in Patchogue asked us to meet them at restaurant. So, we thought, ok give them another chance. The food is just awful . The wings tasted like the walk-in...open faced sandwich, was NOT opened faced. Its like they don't cook to the menu description. Its sad because the restaurant itself is really beautiful inside, but now you know why its always empty. We've been to Dublin and can understand the restaurant's concept, but food is terrible..... read more

Really great atmosphere, a different feel than the rest of patchogue, it's almost regal. Never waited long at the bar. We did not eat, just popped in the to check it out. Their was a 40 minute wait to get a table. They had an acoustic player for about an hour and then a DJ came on. We went in on a Saturday evening about 8PM, started to pack out by the time we left. But the floor plan was really open never felt like I was being overwhelmed by the crowd. It was also nice that the tables that were there, weren't on top of each other which is super annoying in most restaurants. They had HUGE projectors, I would imagine watching a game would be pretty exciting there. read more

This place was pretty good. Came here for a late bite on a Sunday. Wanted to get away from the main area and try something different. My friend has walked by here a few times and it was packed so we figured this was a good place to try. We both got a beers and I got the Grilled Chicken Panini and he got the Avocado Chicken wrap. Both were so good. I got regular fries and the side and he got the sweet potato (came with a delicious maple syrup dip) wish I would of gotten that instead! Prices were very reasonable and our waiter was great. Unfortunately Did not catch his name but he was very outgoing and super friendly. A huge Irish Pub type place and loved the decor. read more

James Joyce is the next big thing this summer hitting Patchogue. The owners renovated an old knitting factory into an beautiful Irish pub. The place is big two floors, plenty of beers on tap. We tried their sampler appetizer plate and their famous soup which came out amazing. The prices for the drinks and food was fair, not too expensive. They have a DJ on top of the bar that plays music. Overall the crowd is nice and all the bartenders are friendly. There are plenty of parking spaces available on lots and they have a DJ on the weekends. read more

Best Shepard's pie. Ive been to two other popular irish restaurants, and this is the best!

I have been here a few times and the food has always been pretty good. However last night the steak was full of hard grizzle and the food was not very hot. To top it off, the live music was way too loud, more like a concert instead of a restaurant. read more

The service at James Joyce and the bouncers at the front are absolutely HORRIBLE! On Valentines Day they had a theme dress to impress for a free drink I had no idea about. At the door, the bouncer asked me "what you got under that coat?" I proceeded to unzip my jacket and he goes Oh Nope... and straight up JUDGED me because I wasn't in a skirt or crop top. It's 2020, and the "Dress to Impress" theme is misogynistic as hell. Also as we left my friend forgot her phone inside. We returned and showed we had stamps on our had and the bouncer rudely told us we had to get in LINE! We already had stamps and she just needed to grab her phone. Place is run by assholes. read more

Beautiful new place in Patchogue!! Great place to have a drink before the show. Highly recommended !!

Wow, this place has a great vibe. Don't come if you are looking for a quiet dinner. If your looking for a spot that is filled with positive energy, this is the place. It is decorated beautifully, from the wagon wheel lights, to the Gaelic inspired railings, this place is a must stop for all ages. The wings were great, albeit small, definitely tasty. The Rubin was amazing, flavorful, and came with an extra side of thousand island dressing. The chicken pot pie was equally amazing. Needless to say, we brought half home. Next time we try the shepherds pie! read more

Follow up, met a friend, not my idea. Ordered a plate of wings, they looked amazing until I ate some, tasted like the walk in, old and stale. They may have been cooked fairly recently but they were not fresh. I'm not finicky, those were old wings. This place screams of poor management, like it was built and put on autopilot. Confirmed my initial review, will not be back. read more

Absolutely DISGUSTING. If I could leave zero stars I would. My boyfriend and I came here with a group of friends expecting a fun night. We were willing to spend money, as this was one of the first times out with all of us. As we were getting drinks I noticed a bouncer go up to a group of all girls yelling at them. I thought nothing of it. About five minutes later a bouncer went up to my boyfriend and told him to invert his hood of his jacket. (NOTED: it was raining outside and he wore a USPS rain jacket) Without any problem, he inverted his jacket hoodie. 10 minutes later, another bouncer went up to him and YELLED at him "what's wrong with you" "you have a problem buddy", saying my boyfriend was supposed to take his jacket off. He responded by telling him another bouncer already told him to invert his hood (which you could clearly see he did) and he told him he had to take the jacket off. I went over and took the jacket from him and asked one of the bouncers if I could put it in the area where they have stacked furniture. He said "as long as I don't see it, ur good," so I put it there (this was only because I was told to put the jacket at a table where there was already a group of 5 sitting, I did not feel comfortable putting an expensive jacket with people I did not know). As I put the jacket down, (NOTED: THE BOUNCER KNEW I WAS DOING THIS) the "manager" Stephanie came over YELLING that I am not allowed to do this because if the jacket gets stolen then it is not the restaurants (aka shitty bar's) fault. I told her I completely understand and still felt more comfortable leaving it here vs. at a table with 5 strangers (who did not work at the restaurant) (aka shitty bar). After I said that, she told my boyfriend and I that we need to leave the establishment. To me, and hopefully anyone reading this review, this is A DISGUSTING WAY TO RUN A BUSINESS, I hope nobody gives this place any money, or any of their time. Also as I was there, there was a female who was ACCUSED AND RIDICULED of having a GUN on her, due to the fact that she was wearing parachute pants. DISGUSTING. IF YOU DO NOT "accept" CERTAIN DRESS-CODES THEN JUST SAY "NO" AT THE DOOR, DON'T LET PEOPLE IN, THEN TEN MINUTES LATER, KICK THEM OUT. I have no idea how this establishment is in business, not only because of this, but also because they let "attractive" underaged people in all the time. Disgusting, I will be trying to contact management/ village of patchogue in the am. read more

Respectfully, not only is your dress code a joke so is your staff and upper management. The only reason you even survive staying open is because of the 21 year olds that like to party on a Saturday night. I will never be coming here again after witnessing your blonde manager screaming in someone's face over a rain jacket. It speaks volumes in the level of class James Joyce has. Your establishment could be at the same high level as very successfully restaurants on Main Street (like Rhum and Tap Room) but I guess that's why you guys don't actually have a space on a Main Street. read more

So this establishments is anti-gay I got asked to leave after being there for an hour because of my "costume" I wore a backwards hat and hoodie went past security and was fine the manager singled me out and asked to search me and my belongings which security did I spent a lot of money and was willing to spend more but the homophobic owners/operators singled me out and asked me to leave protest this shorty establishment. read more

I absolutely loved everything about my first experience here. The atmosphere was industrial, yet inviting. Very open space with two balconies, one in the front of the restaurant and one to the rear. Several booths flank one wall, with the other wall home to a very generous sized bar. Several high top bar tables to stand around or sit at. Great selection of beer and spirits. Stopped in for some drinks and snacks after a show at the theater. Enjoyed a large pretzel with IPA cheese "dip" and a Scotch egg. Both were awesome. Music was loud enough to enjoy, yet at a level that allowed me to hold a conversation. Bartenders were super friendly. Looking forward to visiting again. read more

After a family get together we decided to grab some drinks late night at James Joyce, what a terrible idea that was. The bouncer at the front door began giving us problems as soon as we arrived. He looked me up and down with a dirty look and made me take off my shoes and jacket and patted me down as if I was checking into prison. He then denied me from entering because he didn't think my ID was real, it was... I am 25 years old. I even showed him multiple forms of ID but he just wouldn't let me in. I proceeded to walk around to the back door where I just walked right in (what tight security they have right?). Inside the bar multiple security guards were breathing down everyone's neck and constantly giving people a hard time for nothing. Other patrons at the bar expressed that this is normal for James Joyce. Overall I felt disrespected and uncomfortable there and wouldn't recommend this place to anyone! There's way better places to drink in Patchogue don't go here! A place like this his only stays in business by taking advantage of 21 year olds who don't know any better. read more

Went for happy hour on a Friday. Place was packed, good crowd. We didn't eat anything other than the pretzel but it was delicious (as was the cheese sauce). We ran into friends who were having dinner there and they seemed happy. I like how big it is, plenty of standing around space. Live music was nice addition and the singer is raised on a stage above the bar so it doesn't take up floor space. It is loud (not the music, just the place in general) so just a word of warning if you have trouble in spaces with a lot of background noise. read more
