We have been coming here for quite a number of years and the service and the food have always been excellent. Last night we went, and sad to say, service was not good and my shepherds pie, that I always get here, was very disappointing. Too many potatoes and the meat and veggie mix was bland. The build your burger my wife had was good except the middle part of it came out rare/medium rare when it was asked for well done. Not sure how that happens. We will probably try again one more time hoping this was a one off. read more

Took my hubby here for the very first time on Father's Day... love the decor! Was kind of amazed that they didn't have Fish 'N Chips on the lunch menu (???) but we asked nicely if it might be possible to get some anyway. John, our waiter, went to ask the chef and he said yes - very nice! I had the Scotch egg (delicious, tender inside with a crispy outer crust) and hubby had wings (also yummy - I stole one!) and we both enjoyed the hell out of our fish 'n chips. Extra points for bringing the malt vinegar to the table without being asked. I really wished I didn't have to go to work that afternoon, because I would have loved to try some of their beer.... next time, for sure. Those were the pros... the cons list is short, but it's fair to mention that: 1. The price point is high. 2 unsweetened iced teas, 1 wings app, 1 scotch egg, 2 fish 'n chips - $73! (And that's not counting the tip...) Whew!! If there were cocktails or beer on that tab, it would have been even higher. 2. The "chips" are kind of lackluster. They should be the really fat steak fries, not skinny fries. If you've got to serve skinny chips with the fish, then make them extra crispy and throw some seasoning on them, maybe? Replying to James Joyce comment of my review to emphasize the lack of accountability and lies they tell: If it was a mistake made that is a completley different story that we were not told the day of. We actually got there 10 minutes eariler than our reservation at 9pm as stated above NOT 15 minutes late. Not sure how management would know that considering bouncers refused to get her when asked. And another lie. Manager did not see us before we got on line considering we went straight to the door when we got there and spoke to the bouncers. Again when they told us they wouldnt get management we went on the line with everyone else where I happened to see the manager fixing up the poles for the line. When approached her to ask about this she had an attitude the entire time and never once explained this "mistake made" or offered any sort of help for the inconvenience. Went to this restaurant for the first time and the inside is pretty big. When my table sat down we were brought water for our glasses and you could see that they were clearly dirty. I don't know if the dishwasher wasn't working correctly or what but they were too dirty to even drink out of. The waitress was apologetic and gave us new glasses that were less dirty but we used straws to drink out of them because they were still kind of dirty. Definitely not a good start. Had wings which were good to start and I had the filet mignon which was okay. The steak was chewy and definitely not cooked medium. For $27 I would've expected more . It was more expensive than it should've been. Everyone in my party liked their dishes. I understand we're in odd times with all that's going on, but that's no excuse for charging for items not ordered. Went to James Joyce last Saturday night. Got there around 11PM, and walked right in. Place was more then half empty, but we decided to stay anyways. Ordered a few grilled cheeses, and a whole bunch of drinks. Service was non existent, as the waiter seemed more concerned about hanging out with his friends who came to visit him as opposed to actually working. Took almost an hour for two grilled cheeses to come out, and they were ice cold? These weren't even the problems though, the problem came when the bill came to the table around 2AM. Got charged for various "potato soups", as well as shots we didn't order. When we finally got the waiters attention almost a half hour later, he said that they charge everyone for potato soups so food shows up on the bill, whether or not you actually ordered it. He would "take it off the bill right away." Well, it took him another half an hour to get the bill sorted, and on top of that he added automatic 20% gratuity for his services, or should I say lack of services. Overall, skip this place till COVID is over, because clearly they have no idea what's going on. read more

Our server had one table, ours. Everyone paid cash except one, who asked for her portion to be on a debit card from bank (She is from out of state, as is her bank card). She got the receipt for her portion, and literally circled the total (to indicate that the tip was included in the cash pile). The next day she sees they charged her $201. Her portion of the bill was only $40. We know accidents happen, but in the last SIX days we have called and spoken to someone 6 times and they always say the manager will call back and they NEVER do. She finally had to dispute the charge with her bank. I never leave bad reviews, but this is not just theft, now it's also a horrible lack of service in refusal to rectify it. read more

A néw local staple. Pre covid it's a restaurant during the day and a hot trendy club at night where the lines would be down the block. Great atmosphere. This use to be the original building where jays fabrics was. I use to go their with my grandma who was a seamstress..... it's a nice Irish pub with a large selection of Irish fair.. Our waitress was very attentive. If you want your food coming out fast, order right way. We went with friends to talk, order our food it was served so fast didn't have time to talk and drink. The food was hot, and the is good! If there is anything big on tv the place will be extremely LOUD! Attempted to go today for a friends birthday. My fiancé was wearing brand new air Jordan 1s. They were clean with no issues on them. They apparently are a late night bar with a dress code ?? My fiancé was turned away meanwhile multiple kids with dirty disheveled sneakers were able to walk in with no problem, including high top dunks (that look exactly like 1s) were allowed in. As previously mentioned in other reviews their dress code is clearly trying to turn away a certain crowd and it is truly disgusting. As for the owner, don't bother replying with your usual copy and paste reply to people complaining about your business and it's ridiculous dress code. It's clear you don't care and you're losing thousands of dollars of business in the process of it all and continuing to generate a horrible reputation. read more

I like to go here for a night out on the weekends because the music is always good but the girl bartending last night 6/10/22 at the upstairs bar was quite possibly the worst bartender I've ever encountered. No smile, no talking and looked completely miserable. She was purposely avoiding eye contact with me and serving others who got to the bar after me for whatever reason. She was moving SLOWER THAN SLOW with a crowded bar. Like unbelievably slow and not taking the next persons order while she's ringing up someone else to efficiently run the bar. Def had to be inexperienced or just did it on purpose because she didn't want to be there. read more

Went there on Sunday 12/11/22 for breakfast brunch with High School friends, which we do every year for the last 10 years at different locations. This place was the least favorite of all. Food and service was good, it was what the manager tried to pull at the end that was disturbing! My friend when she reserved the table for 14 put $100.00 as a deposit to hold it. The manager told her that was a fee to hold the table not a deposit and was not going to take the $100.00 off the bill or give her her money back. They gave her a gift certificate for $100.00 at first but then after 45 minutes of back and forth banter she eventually got her money back. Won't be back next year! read more

Absolutely waste of money. The ambience was nice. Food was horrible and over priced. We started off with a scotch egg. It was nothing to brag about. Literally tasted like a soft boiled eggs with spicy mustard. French onion soup was ok. Entrees consisted of their "famous James Joyce Burger". Definitely nothing to brag about. The Gouda was literally sliced and place on the burger cold. I had better burgers at chili's. My husband got the whiskey chicken with mashed potatoes. He said it was ok. The bill was over $80 and they charged a fee to use a credit card!!! I will never go back. Not worth your time or money. Sad because they did a great job with the decor. This review is from probably a year ago. I didn't realize I never posted it and still think it is very important. This is the first time I came here. Me and a large group of people showed up for music and drinks and all got inside no problem. We proceed to a table by the front and we are dancing and having a good time overall. Unfortunately this is where that stops. A middle aged man who was very clearly extremely intoxicated as he could barely stand and almost fell down next to a bouncer proceeded to take his genitalia out and pee on my friend and the floor. I have never experienced anything like this before. I walked over to the bouncer and explained the situation expecting the man to promptly be kicked out. He was not. He was allowed to remain for the rest of the night. Suddenly we notice he was recording us and someone else in my group explained the situation to the bouncer. Nothing happened. I was fed up at this point and went to the bartender to ask for a manger and explained the situation. He was very kind and apologetic at no fault of his own. During this conversation the man was removed, but what baffles me is the fact that it took at least over an hour to remove a creepy man who had urinated on another patron in the middle of the crowd along with recording us without our consent. The bouncer we had spoken to multiple times did not take any action or make sure we were okay. In fact he walked me near the man and asked me to point out where he peed.... I pointed to the floor and explained how it was soaking wet anyways so I couldn't necessarily point out the precise spot. I'm a 5'2" girl who just wanted to dance and have a great time, but my night was ruined by a severely intoxicated man and a bouncer who seemingly did not care for his job. Last night I went to get a burger from the bar. I was met with 3 bouncers who were not friendly at all. They looked me up and down as if i were some bum off the street. When I explained that I was there to buy food from the bar, I was met with more dirty looks. They hesitated to let me in but finally after I ordered my food, I left to take a walk and when I went back one of the bouncers told me I could not come in with my sneakers. I explained that I was going to pick up the food that I ordered...then he let me in... The majority of people in that establishment had on sneakers and I don't understand why the rule was not across the board. This gentleman needs to be reoriented on how to deal with the public. I am a young successful man who has worked extremely hard to spend my money on a burger that I could have gotten from anywhere else. Please have a talk with him. The burger was however VERY GOOD. Pleasantly surprised by our experience here! I'm always weary to try new restaurants, as I like them to work out the kinks first before I try, but I decided to try James Joyce since I had been to their other restaurant in Holbrook previously. We started off with calamari and the scotch egg. It was my first time trying a scotch egg, and it was excellent ! Needed a little more sausage in my opinion, but was good otherwise. The calamari was cooked perfectly, and was very tender. I just wish they didn't have just rings, but tentacles as well...but that's just preference. My partner and I split the skirt steak and the harvest grilled chicken salad. All I can say about the steak is WOW. It was cooked perfectly, and the flavor was outstanding. I'm not sure if we received the "marinated" or "plain" version (they didn't ask), but my guess would be marinated. It was excellent. While the salad was good, I think it needed some work. There was only a few pieces of chicken on it, and they were very light on the toppings. For $15 I expect a little more than just mixed greens with a sprinkle of ingredients - there are other restaurants in the area that have salads in the same price range, but come with way more stuff on them. But it was good otherwise. Last but not least, I was very impressed with the service and atmosphere. While it was a little loud, I was happy that the tables were not so close together (didn't feel like sardines). And the service was phenomenal...our waiter was very attentive, but not too obsessed. I also saw a lot of team work amongst the employees which made everything flow so well. With all that being said, we will definitely be back soon! read more

Went to brunch on Mother's birthday Day, no one told us there was a $43.99 price fixe brunch, it wasn't listed on the bill or on the website and we weren't told when we called for reservation. We found out when questioning the bill because it didn't make sense. The food was marginal and just not worth it. We ordered Chicken and Waffles which was 2 rubbery chicken tenders and 2 frozen waffles, Breakfast Burrito was ok...there was a little buffet of bagels and fruit and dessert and Mimosas...it was all disappointing. I kind of found this place by mistake. I searched Irish pub in Patchogue. I thought it was another place on Main Street. The menu is awesome. This restaurant is beautiful. I can't wait until they open, so we can sit and eat like normal. The server was very kind and professional. My to go food was waiting for my pick up when I got there. I was also offered a free beer with my order. Kind of different, I took it home of course. I got the cod tacos. They were delish! Crispy and very flavorful. I loved everything about it. There were three tacos, I could only eat two. It was a lot of food. I saved one for my lunch today. One thing that bugged me a little was that the cod tocos were under wraps and sandwiches, it says at the top of that section to choose a side. The person who took my order on the phone insisted my tacos did not include a side. That's why I ordered the slaw. I'll take a pic of that part of the menu. It doesn't make sense. I took a chance on the cole slaw, because slaw is not always good. This slaw was so so good. A little sweet, and juicy. My husband is a cole slaw snob. I had him taste it, he loved it too. My husband got bbq chix wings. He said he liked them. There wasn't much meat on them. The carrots and celery were missing. I wonder why. Raw carrots are the only veggie my husband will eat. I'm looking forward to our next visit. I already know what I'm ordering. I finally got my husband to try a new place. I'm glad we did. I'm glad I brought home a menu. He's a tough customer. He found a few things he's looking forward to ordering next time. All in all I give this place four stars. I have never written a negative review in my life but I had to warn people about this place. First, the waiter was clueless and never checked on us. Second, the drinks were terrible and they used RC or some terrible cola in my captain and coke. Third, this place is dangerous for people with celiac disease. I ordered a sandwich with a gluten free bun and they brought out my meal on a regular bun. Then, the server kept sayin it was a GF bun even though it looked like everyone else's bun. They finally admitted their mistake and said we will just take the food off the bun and put it on a GF bun. The fries were terrible. We had a 6:45 reservation on Saturday night. We were seated quickly. Stephanie, the manager, brought water, greeted us and took our drink order. We sat for 25 minutes waiting for our drinks and/or a server to acknowledge us. We finally went over to Stephanie and asked about our server. She jumped into action. Our drinks were at the bar, dying. She had fresh cocktails made, delivered them and took our order. She checked back in on us several times. Our meal was delicious. I watched during our stay as Stephanie greeted customers, took drink orders, took meal orders, bussed tables and ran the show like a BOSS. Clearly she works at a much faster pace than most of the staff. She is why I will go back. I've been in food service /hospitality almost 40 years and managers like her are hard to find. Had a surprise 30th birthday party for my wife last night. It was a really good time. They have open bar specials with options of 5 appetizers or 3 appetizers and two meal options. I went with the five appetizers, buffalo bits, pulled pork nachos, baked clams, mozzarella sticks, and potato skins. All the food was great and the management along with the wait staff was very nice and very accommodating. They have two options for parties on the 2nd floor with bar areas and one side has its own private bathroom as well. I would highly recommend this place for a party. read more

I called to complain and was told they would credit me the sandwich. Mu name would be left at the front desk and when I ordered again, the credit would be issued. Came here for some drinks and apps on a Friday night. I've been to patchogue a few times and never knew this place was so close ! The place is really big and very nice. We got here by 9 and it wasn't super busy. We grabbed a table outside. The food was really good and came very hot. Really big bar. Bartenders were friendly. Once 1030/11 rolled around tons of people started coming and the music was actually really good. A little bit of a younger crowd but definitely will be back next time we are in patchogue ! read more
