**Eastside Pop-Up at Brief Encounter Café** (Wednesdays - Sundays 4-7pm) Schedule online pick-up: https://www.toasttab.com/jacks-bbq-bellevue-2632-bellevue-way/v3?fbclid=IwAR0z1ewckNwrHVyHj7gbX9tA25JzgBcjWmEyPkR407M-hfEEPrp59iBhzoU First things first, this place has been on our to-try list for a pretty long time. It wasn't until Husband told me that they were doing a pop-up in Bellevue that we ended up trying. Let me say that this Texas-style BBQ is one to beat, and absolutely delicious! With their limited menu, we ended up ordering their brisket and ribs. In spite of that, they have an all-around great menu that gives you a broad sampling of their greatest hits. At first, we were planning to order just the 1 lb. brisket (lean) and half rack of pork ribs. Good thing we listened to our conscience and got the FULL pound of pork ribs. So worth it! The food is no joke - balanced flavors, simple seasoning, and a nice consistent smoke ring around the brisket. The sauces (regular and spicy) were a good add-on, but you really don't need it. It's that good. In addition, the quantity they give you is enough to feed 4 adults, so you can imagine how much food we had leftover with just 2 adults! They also give you white toast, onions, pickles to make a sandwich. We toasted ours in our oven, and it was really tasty. Husband also remarked that Jack was super friendly, and ordering online was seamless. Everything was packed nicely as well. It's great that they have a pop-up on the Eastside currently and looks like for the foreseeable future, but I'd still make the trek to SoDo and SLU. Highly recommend to all who fancy dry-rubbed ribs and nicely smoked brisket! I'll definitely be back... :) read more

Jack's has mastered operating a restraint during COVID. They follow every protocol from the government, and is the first place I've been to that focuses on it so much, from the hostess that reviewed all the rules with you - to keep everyone safe - to the digital menus. They also expanded their patio to accommodate more customers outside, which is nice. The food is also really good. I preferred the ribs, which are a dry rub and very tasty. They also have great cornbread, bread, chili and offer jalapeños and pickles on the side. They offer a decent beer and booze selection. In fact, their beer selection has improved drastically since the last time I was here. The atmosphere is also great! read more

Omg. This is legit BBQ. My ex tried to make bbq (er, meat?) He failed miserably but that's another story for another time. I always wondered why his brisket was so dry. I still don't know why but at least I found brisket the way I always thought it could be at Jack's. For sides, I ordered the savory ranch beans & got a whole side of pulled pork in them! lol I wanted to try the collard greens but they were out. Settled for the coleslaw which was just ok. My moms choice of potato salad was much better. I will be sad to move away but hopefully I will be back for frequent visits. read more

Last night we had a great time at dinner in this place. The staff really seemed to care and take care in what is going on. We ordered the Texas trinity Plate. That was what I really expected to be! Delicious! Tables were located in a way to keep 6 feet social distancing policy. All the staff were wearing mask. Also, it was mandatory for all customers to wear mask except when they are sitting at the table! read more

Stopped by the other weekend for Saturday lunch. We got there around 1 PM and had no wait. The staff was excellent, and the food was pretty good. We ordered the "Picnic" for $75. It comes with brisket, chicken, pulled pork, two sausage links (jalapeno/cheddar and a mesquite-smoked sausage), and four sides. The chicken, pulled pork, and jalapeno cheddar sausage was delicious. The spare ribs were tasty and tender, but the brisket was dry. The fatty side fell apart, and the lean side was stiff and dry. Not sure if it was overcooked or leftover from the previous day's service. Will I return, yes. read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! We ordered the PICNIC FOR 4 with additional brisket and a half rib. It's cost $90.00. Sigh. My husband loves this restaurant so I will be kind. The pulled pork was dry. The sauce is awful. And I really want to say it's good. But it's not. My hubby says it's Texas style. Yeah, right. Ribs are good. Brisket is super good. Mac-n-cheese good. Collard greens surprisingly good. Will I go back? Yeah, this is my hubby's favorite rib joint. read more

Listen up folks, I dont care where you think you are going for your next meal. Drop everything and head over to Jacks, and this is why. So hear I am in Seattle with a colleague that is from Texas and he says to me he heard there is a BBQ joint that is slinging real Texas Brisket. We both laughed as this is Seattle and what do they know about Texas Brisket. Well, ok lets try it. Why not. Holy Smacks is this place legit. From the moment you get a whiff of the smoke filled air in the parking lot you know you are in for something special. We were greeted promptly and sat . The menu is perfect, They dont have a bunch of gimmicky items. Lets get down to the basics of good ole BBQ. The sides were jut as amazing as the Brisket and pork ribs. In the dining room there is a large window where one can watch them prepare the smokers and load them with beautiful cuts of meat. After we paid we decide to go around and take a peak at the smokers and that is when the real magic started. The young pit boss took time to tell us all about the wood and cooking temps that was cool and then this guy comes around the corner from the parking lot and asked if we saw anything interesting, We though he was just another BBQ fan. Nope it was not just some random guy. He asks if we want to go inside and see the smokers I replied with that would be cool although someone should stand outside and be a look out, his reply was that was not necessary as he was the owner Jack Timmons. How cool is my life. We were able to get a private tour of the smokers and hear of some great stories of Jack and some other BBQ greats. If you are down for some real Texas Bbq that will leave you wanting more this is your place. Yes it was so good we returned the next morning for the breakfast tacos. Thank You Jack! read more

I drive by Jacks BBQ in Algona everyday, it always smells so good. I don't have time to actually eat in but, I did door dash it today to work for an early dinner. This place is really just a hit or miss. Sometimes it's decent, and sometimes it's amazing. I've been here a few times, and had some great experiences where the meat would be very tender and packed with flavor. I've recently brought a friend from Cali to this spot in hopes he'd enjoy some real good BBQ... The visit ended up being disappointing where each cut of meat was dry besides the sausages. The sides were tasty more than the meat were. I was really excited for the brisket, thinking it'd be soft, tender, juicy, and bursting with flavor like it usually is... It was also just a dry cut of meat. The only thing barely saving it was the fat and the sauces they give you to dip your meat in. I found myself putting excessive sauce on my cuts of meat trying to "re-moisten" them. Didn't work obviously. We were both really underwhelmed with our visit, but did appreciate the sides and the customer service. read more

Fellow Texas Expat here -- would definitely like to salute a fellow Texan for exporting a taste of Central Texas to Seattle. The decor and food was unabashedly Central Texan and reminded me of old joints in Austin. I usually skip the sides and go for the meat, when I eat barbecue, so I did exactly that. One pound of brisket with bread, pickles, onions, and pickled jalapeños. PROS: The meat (mostly) The brisket had a great smokey flavor that tasted of real wood that was burned in the pit (you could see the smoke ring for sure, one indication of a properly cooked brisket). The bark (black crust of fat, salt, and pepper) on the outside was perfectly delicate and fatty. I loved the house-made pickles and jalapeños -- definitely tasted better than the jarred mass-produced stuff you'd get in Texas. CONS: Minor things with meat, service model My fatty brisket was a little drier than my baseline for decent barbecue in Texas (Rudy's in Austin). Specifically, the meat tasted like it sat to cool for a bit instead of being taken fresh off the pit. The quality would be slightly below good in Austin. Also, the staff is really stingy with the onions and pickles (you can ask for more though, so not a huge thing). Service model seems annoyingly Seattle (sorry if I offend any native PNW folk). In Texas, unless you eat at some chain shop like Pappas BBQ, you never deal with any waitstaff. You just go to the counter, order the meat, have it cut fresh, take your stuff on a tray, and self-serve white bread, pickles, onions, and sometimes jalapenos. The service was good, but I don't see the need for servers in a barbecue joint, as noted by another reviewer. The food is already more expensive as is here--Why add to the customer cost by having servers that need to be tipped and why waste labor costs as the business owner on more overhead? I'd just have some cutters, a cashier, and a couple of folks in the bar along with the pit crew. Not my joint, but I thought the setup was strange. This is the service model of famous places like Smith's, Black's, and Franklin, to more humbler places like Gabby's in Houston and Iron Works Barbecue. TL;DR Brisket taste and bark are good/authentic, but moisture content could be improved. Waitstaff seems silly and needlessly adds to consumer costs. A little bit stingy on the fixins. read more

I cannot believe how much I disliked the food here, so disappointing. The only good thing was the nice young man at the front counter. I came at 5pm so really no excuse for quality of food. I got the brisket and 3 sides for $30. Brisket = Extremely dry, no flavor, pieces cut way too thick (only got 2 total). Coleslaw = Super bland, no flavor, and the flavor it did have was weird and peppery. Only took 3 bites. Beans = So peppery, dry, bland, and overall gross. Only took 2 bites. Mac & cheese = It was okay, best thing out of everything, but nothing special at all. I really wanted to like this place I really did, it's right on my way home now. I just don't think I'll go back because if you're having bbq you need to have good sides with it and this place misses the mark in my opinion. Maybe it's just me, my taste buds, whatever, everyone is different and this place has a ton of good reviews but definitely not for me. read more

Great food, friendly service, and quick. I love how authentic the food is , I can tell it was made with love.

This place seems to be coasting on past accolades. And that's sad. The food is above average. Sausage is good. Ribs are great (very tender, but still requiring you to use your teeth to remove the meat from the bone--which is as it should be), and brisket is okay. The brisket seems to lack any clear smoke flavor. You don't want smoke to be overwhelming, but you do want to know that you are eating a piece of brisket that has seen some smoke. This brisket lacks any smoke taste. Which makes little sense because they certainly have the smokers out back to deliver the flavor. It was more tender than most in Seattle, but it wasn't wonderful. Wonder what's changed over the past seven years since they started making BBQ here? Don't get me wrong. The food is decent. It's above average for Seattle BBQ, but in Texas this would just be an okay kind of place. Nothing that people would flock to. Service is not great. The service staff is not exactly attentive. First, you have to ask for bread, pickles, and onions to accompany your food. YOU have to ask. They will not ask you if you want it. Second, I dropped a knife part way through my meal. I watched as servers and runners (several) for the next table over (my knife was now on the floor between our two tables) stepped on the knife. Repeatedly. I finally got a new knife after about 15 minutes when one of them finally noticed the knife on the floor and asked me if I needed a new knife. Well, duh. Just get it already and provide a new one. No need to ask. Third, I ordered banana pudding near the end of my meal. Took 30 minutes to get it. Yes, 30 minutes. And I only received it then because I asked about it. Finally, my check took over 10 minutes to arrive once I asked for it and another 10 minutes before someone picked up the check and credit card from my table. This is not good service. This place has a great outdoor patio, a nod to the great BBQ joints in Texas. I was here in November, so didn't get a chance to use it, but the fact that they have it is good. I can't for the life of me figure out why you would build a large BBQ joint like this and not follow the typical setup in Texas joints. In Texas, you typically walk through an ordering and serving line and get your food and drink and pay there. The meat is cut fresh before your eyes. It's efficient and it works well. Servers (at some places) circulate to ensure everything is fine and to take any add on orders you may want to make. I have seem zero places in the Seattle area that do this, and this place would have been a perfect location to use that typical system. As I said, they seem to be living on past laurels. They are good, not great. Maybe they used to be great. I have no idea. But it's time for them to take a serious and deep look at their business and kitchen operations and make some adjustments. The raw materials for greatness are there, but the greatness is not. Just slightly above average right now. Hopefully, that will change. I won't make any special trips to return until it does. There are better BBQ places out there in the Seattle area now. read more

Really good BBQ in Seattle you say? Why yes, we have some folks out here that know how to really barbecue meats. I like the atmosphere here as it's quite roomy in the dining area and also the bar area. Do order any of their sides with your slabs of meat. For those of you who enjoy collard greens like I do, order that for sure. I also liked their sweet tea here with my meal. Take any meal to-go and they'll instruct you on how to properly re-heat your meal for an even better eating experience at home with leftovers. read more

First timer here, customer service was great 5/5 We came at the perfect time and food came out pretty quick. The meat itself could've been better, the ribs and chicken were somewhat raw a little over medium rare which for bbq isn't the best in my opinion. I've been to Jack's in Algona many times and have always had a great experience although I will say the chocolate pie I actually returned because I thought it was awful. Tried the Sodo location and seemed like they were short-handed but did the best they could. You know our times lol. Okay, so queso dip with brisket was really good except the brisket came in huge chunks on top so made it hard to eat a chip. The brisket I ordered both lean and fatty was on point. I have to say although I liked the chicken, I thought it was very salty and mentioned that to our waitperson. Couldn't return it and get more chicken because I'm sure it's all smoked together. They were out of pulled pork so couldn't exchange it for that, even though we were there on a Sunday at 5:00. My guess was right about the salt factor. Went home and last night drank about a quart of water within 5 hours. Sometimes you get food that you think is salty but it isn't, but in this case it was and it was disappointing. Creamed corn was good, chili was good and cornbread as usual was fantastic! read more

How I heard of this place: Some good friends found out we were BBQ fans, and heard of a couple of newer places in the city (the names of which they kept from us) which we had to try! They picked us up, drove us down and we all devoured the selection in front of us! Type of cuisine: "Jack Timmons grew up in Texas and has lived in Seattle for the last 2 decades. In 2012, he attended BBQ Summer Camp at the Meat Sciences department of Texas A&M, then toured many historic barbecue temples of Central Texas. Returning to Seattle, he bought an offset smoker, imported some post oak, mesquite and hickory, and started the Seattle Brisket Experience. After more than a year of practicing the art of barbecue, and serving old-school, succulent smoked meats to thousands of Northwest BBQ fans at BBQ raves, Jack opened a restaurant in the SoDo region of Seattle - Jack's BBQ." Ambiance: A big smoker outside, and you know you're in for a great meal! Enter into a large, stand-alone facility, it's a wonder there is ever any food available at the end of the day! A plush giraffe welcomes patrons, as they sit and await their names to be called from off of the seating waitlist. Seating (closed when we were there) is available immediately ahead, as is a deli-style display window of food selections. Having preemptively made a reservation, we were seated immediately in the far corner of the establishment, content to have our privacy and a large table to ourselves. Bar seating is also found adjacent to the front dining area, where low ceilings continue, and festive lights remain strung along the ceiling. What I ordered: We chose to share a Picnic for 4 ($60) which included "Lots of Everything!" Just our style. Brisket, ribs, sausage, pulled pork, chicken and four sides: mac & cheese, remoulade cole slaw, Texas caviar (black eyed pea salad), and ranch beans. All of this, accompanied by house-made BBQ sauces - one spicy one not - and bread, onions, and pickled cukes and jalapenos. What I loved: We all loved the sides, especially the Texas cavier, a light, bright surprise. The ribs easily fell off the bone, making them so simple to lick clean! The pulled pork smoky and rich with flavor, the jalapeno sausage delicious and lacking in any gaminess, and the brisket among the best any of us had ever had. Unrivaled. Why I loved it: Excellent food, great service, the perfect company, and so much to eat. Cost: Average to high ($14 - $26 per plate) read more

This place was delicious. We were so happy to find a decent BBQ place in Seattle. I went to college in Alabama and had really been missing some good pulled pork and ribs. We got the massive platter of nachos with the pulled pork. It was really nice of them to put the fixings on the side so that you could put your amount of choice. The fixings included queso (was on the thicker side but great flavors), salsa (some of the better salsa in Seattle that we've had), beans, sour cream, and green onions. I also got three ribs which were flavorful and smokey. It was nice that the tables were super spaced out and that the servers were wearing masks. We wore our masks whenever the server came around but many people came in without masks. The menus were also disposable. Great place and we will be back to try more. read more

Really good bbq. Their best dish is their brisket - tender with good smoke. I also recommend the coleslaw and hush puppies. Not a huge fan of the ribs - while they appear to be the right cook with a clean bone, they were too chewy for my taste. We just got back from Dallas and had a craving for Texas style BBQ. This place definitely hit the spot, but nothing truly ever can match BBQ in Texas, but this place sure comes close. We ordered the Texas Trinity (2 Ribs, Brisket, 2 Sausage), with Mac & Cheese and also Potato Salad. The meats were smoked to perfection with a nice bark. The sides were also tasty per my wife, as I'm on Keto, I had to take her word on that. But my 10 yo daughter who is a picky eater did agree. I ordered the billionaire bacon, cup of Jack chili, collard greens. Everything was delicious, the collard greens was extremely flavorful and the highlight for me. We also had the Smoked sweet tea, where the smoke the brown sugar that goes into the tea, and it did taste good (I had a sip) and also the pecan pie which was (based on my wife's facial expressions), orgasmic. Lol... Service is also five stars. Nice big screens for sports viewing. Will be back again. read more

If you're looking for great brisket, keep looking. Actually if you're looking for mediocre or even edible BBQ, keep looking At Jack's they serve brisket thickly sliced and they give you a steak knife. That steak knife is not a good sign, but it is necessary in order to eat the tough meat. And then when you're done choking it down you'll wonder why you did that. Pinto beans overwhelmed by rosemary. Rosemary! In BBQ beans! It's well known that BBQ in the PNW is abysmal. Jack's could possibly be the worst of the worst. These people have absolutely no idea what they're doing. I've been disappointed in "authentic" BBQ joints around Seattle. You can't just slap meat on a grill, douse it with liquid smoke, and call that BBQ. Over the years though, I've found a couple of places that do a damned good job sating that barbecue crave! Friends of mine were having lunch here when they posted their foods to IG. I jokingly quipped that I accepted delivery and surprise! They brought me one of their Double Trouble plates with brisket and sausage. My sides were ranch beans and macaroni + cheese, plus some delicious hush puppies. There were way too many hush puppies for one person but they were excellent so I had them for lunch AND dinner! I didn't partake of the honey butter (melted) or the tartar sauce (warm by the time I received it) but would try them at the restaurant. They also brought me a slice of the pecan pie touted on the menu as the 1996 Champion from the State Fair of Texas! The whipped cream was served on the side and it looked handmade + rich! My only (small) complaint was the fat layer that ran through the centre of my brisket slices. All in all it was about 1/3 of the meat so that was a little disappointing because the taste was excellent. Would definitely try them in person because as a (sometimes) homesick (only for the food) Texan, I liked what I tried the first time out! read more

Best authentic BBQ in the city! Thanks Jack and all your employees! No matter what you order it's incredible!

I was a bit puzzled that my boss wanted me to drive to Sodo for our office lunch when Bellevue also has several BBQ joints - but I'm glad he sent me on said journey! I pulled up to the restaurant to get our catering order and wasn't surprised the entire lot was full. I found a spot I could park in quickly and ran in. Stepping in the smells are unreal, I knew it would be delicious. We got several picnic baskets with all the sides and everything was so so good. The Mac and cheese was a little different but aside from that we loved it all and it was worth it. We even tried the banana pudding and pecan pie and those were great too. We'll be back! read more

The beef rib that wasn't. And the bbq place that once was, but no longer is. I've been going here for many years but it took today for me to realize that it's out of nostalgia from years ago that's kept me going. The quality has gone downhill. The 14 oz prime rib special turned out to be a 10 oz slice. The last two beef ribs I've had were utterly undercooked. It's supposed to be super duper tender and the collagen broken down into lip smacking goodness gelatin. They were anything but tender. Sad how so much has gone into making them only to slip and fall on the finishing line. Only a beginner would have pulled a rack of beef ribs from the smoker given how tough they were. Beyond obvious. The beef rib tonight had zero bark. Why? They didn't even trim it. They left all the silver skin and just put a crap ton of salt and pepper on there to hide the lack of care needed to make a beef rib, you have to trim it. How far this place has fallen. And no, you can't blame inflation on these. Pulled pork might be the only thing that is reliable. When you pay $100 for a beef rib you expect it to have been done right. I won't be going back unless maybe I'm making a Costco run and feeling in the mood for pulled pork. read more

I have tried and tried but I am just not impressed with the BBQ here. We picked up an expensive order the other week as takeout and the quantity and quality of food left much to be desired. The brisket and ribs were dry while the sausage and pulled pork was alright. We got a variety of sides and they were tasty but not amazing and not large in portion size. The food was lukewarm at pick up. It smelled amazing in the restaurant so maybe it just really is better to eat it there but this isn't our first misfire at picking up takeout from here. Tried a few signature items here. Sadly they ran out of beef ribs right before we arrived, but the staff was super friendly and food came out promptly after we ordered... On the table: we ordered the Texas trinity and were able to try both types of sausage, and a few sides of beef bacon, collard greens and mac and cheese. Nothing was super stand out to me, but out of everything we got, I enjoyed jalapeno and cheddar sausage the best and pork ribs came in second. I felt the brisket we got was on the dry side, but my friend seemed to like it. After spending hours watching the BBQ competion show on food network I told myself I was on a hunt for some good bbq. I've been to so many bbq places in Seattle but wanted to try a new place. I have drove passed this place so many times and after reading a few yelp reviews I decided to give it a shot. The interior was cozy and had a very typical bbq joint feel. Shiplap on the walls and benches with the red and white plaid tablecloths. Upscale picnic vibes all day. Our waitress was nice and our food came quick. I was also surprised the price was great for what we got. I got the pork ribs plate and I have to go on record and say these are some of the juiciest and meatiest ribs I have had in a while. The meat was falling off the bone and the flavor was amazing. I teared up a little on the inside when I took the first bite. It was that good. I also got the Mac and cheese, greens and the potato salad. The Mac and cheese and greens were POPPINGGG!! The potato salad was just ok it has a lot of dill in it so if you like that you'll be good.
