    Short rib.

Party of eight on a Friday. It was a celebration and everyone was in a great mood. Downtown Bozeman was beautiful that evening. We were sat with in 10 minutes. We had reservations. We started with various apps and drinks. The servers were great. We had oysters fresh and Rockefeller, calamari, shrimp and fried deviled egg. Everything was served fast and fresh. The servers did a great job with explaining the menu. I ordered the short rib. Which is the definition of too much food. It was quite tasty and I finished it. I could have and should have taken half to go. I got to try a mate's the ribeye. Delicious. Tender, fatty and smokey. They did a great job. I'd give it 5-stars, it it weren't really over priced. There are much better values in Bozeman. Our bill was eye-watering. The food was great, the staff excellent, but this place is for those who aren't looking for a deal.

If you're looking for a more upscale or nicer spot for a steak type dinner with a business crew or fam or sheer adulting vibes with a nice bar, this is your spot. Average meal pp is probable $80-120 depending on what you choose to share. Eg steak dishes are $80-100. We got the 18 oz ribeye medium rare and it was more rare than medium. Easily shared between 3. Flavor was good tho. Also got the salmon which was cooked medium and super tender and yummy. Best for one person. Spinach salad was meh. Broccolini was good, but Asparagus was thick and seasoned amazing. They ran out of mashed potatoes. The baked potatoes tasted microwaved and was super dry. The beet appetizer deserves a 5 on its own! The crusted pistachios are crazy good as is the creamy sauce that is at the base. The mushroom topping is yummy too. The service was good too. Parking on the Main Street is ok but prob busy on a weekend night at prime time. Nice spot, especially in a small town, as for me, not in a rush to come back but would if others wanted to.

This was probably the best ribeye steak I've ever had. It had an amazing thin crispy texture across most of the steak and was juicy and flavorful. I had heard that Montana was known for their beef quality and that was accurate AF. Their roasted beets were good too. We didn't expect there to be a goat cheese spread along the bottom of it and had to remove that since we didn't like goat cheese. They were happy to adjust the dish for us which was nice of them.

TL;DR: classic steakhouse with some nice modern upgrades. Inconsistent cooks and somewhat inexperienced service leaves us a little disappointed Ordered: - 4 tomahawk steaks for the table all medium rare. 2 were perfect while 2 were overcooked. We mentioned it, and even showed it, to the server who essentially said "sorry, nothing we can do about it". The perfectly cooked ones were so good but the other two were just slowly picked at. - Tartare was forgettable. Not enough mustard in the mix and way too much bread. - Wedge salad was better than the table salad. Definitely enjoyed the bleu cheese dressing as it stands up next to the meat. - French onion soup was a sleeper. Get it. - Baked alaska could've been great but the server literally poured on half of the dish so while one side got toasted, the other was completely untouched. Overall, a good steakhouse but improving the consistency both in the food and the service can really take JW to the next level Cheers, JW

From the moment we entered I knew it was going to be an upscale experience with top notch steak! Found this steakhouse from a TikTok recommendation. It did not disappoint and Stephanie our server was on point with suggestions! The atheistic is a classic old-school steakhouse with dark wood, and the staff is all dressed in uniform. The steak was like butter. One of the best steaks I have had. I highly recommend.

Feels Like Royalty in a Hunting Lodge - Plus That Butterscotch Budino! J.W. Heist Steakhouse in Bozeman is a place that knows how to do it right. We sat at the bar, and from start to finish, the experience was fantastic. The atmosphere is something special--it feels like you've stepped into a fancy hunting lodge with a touch of royalty. The warm wood tones, elegant decor, and upscale-yet-cozy vibe make it a perfect spot for a night out. Our bartender, Jenna, was awesome--friendly, helpful, and happy to walk us through the drink options. My girlfriend, Heather, ordered an Old-Fashioned, which was smooth and well-crafted, while I went with a delicious IPA that hit the spot. And then came the dessert. We ordered the Butterscotch Budino, which we already knew was going to be dangerous because we had popped in a few months ago, right around their opening weekend, and had it then. One bite, and yep--just as good as we remembered. Creamy, rich, and absolutely addictive. We tried to resist, but... we ordered a second one. No regrets. Whether you're in Bozeman for a visit or you're a local looking for an elevated night out, J.W. Heist Steakhouse is a must. Sit at the bar if you can--the service is top-notch, the atmosphere is unbeatable, and that Budino? Game-changer.

We had a reservation, walked there from our hotel was seated within 5-7 min of arrival. Our server Lindsey was Excellent! She knows the menu, the history of the place, the staff and beyond. She was very detailed and knowing it was our 1st time she encouraged us to go see the kitchen, and we did! My 1st drink way strong, so I cut it back on #2. The food not as impressive as some steakhouses I've been too but not bad. The main issue we had was our steaks Filets were not hot, not even really warm. They had a smoky taste and I kept mine but my bf sent his back and was still unhappy and chose not to eat it. The grilled asparagus was hot & tasty, The whipped potatoes just that smooth & creamy. Not a fan of the French onion soup, had an odd color. Very greasy and did not taste like house made French onion soup, But it was bloody hot! The bread basket kinda disappointing looked like Hawaiian bread rolls, tasted like a potato roll. Nothing to rave about. Crème Brûlée dessert was good. It's kinda loud inside, dim lighting, seating is very close to your neighbor at least where we sat. Tight walkways to get towards the kitchen and bathrooms. we always make a "quick" friend no matter where we go, and tonight was no different on our way to the kitchen a man named Scotty at the bar stopped us to say hi, ask where we're from and have a quick chat. (He was not a local either on a business trip ) so it was fun to see friendly people inside. To be frank, the service was the best, Lindsey is a Fantastic & knowledgeable server. We'd probably come back if we were in the area, try it again and make different choices. But for now we are on steakhouse scavenger hunts so tonight we will find another new place here in Bozeman before we head to Billings.

Amazing. What a beautiful evening out to celebrate something special. The food was incredible, every meal was cooked to perfection and equally as perfect was our service! This is a wonderful place to just sit back and be spoiled!

We started with the beet and burrata salad, which was full of yummy complimenting flavors and fun textures. I think it could have done without the yellow peppers but I just ate around those. The pepitas with the pistachio butter and beets were excellent, and the burrata added a creamy touch. We also tried the frites and fondue. The fries were thick and browned how I like them, but the fondue wasn't my favorite and was a little too overpowering in flavor for my taste. The parmesan on top of the fries was a nice touch. For beverages I had a local pale ale from Bridger brewing that was crisp and went well with the meal, and my partner tried the rotations shrub (peach), which she said was just okay. The star of the show was the arrabiata pasta made with vodka sauce and Calabrian chilis. The pasta was cooked perfectly Al dente and was well sauced, truly delicious. The ambiance is nice, and the service was fine. They checked on us frequently but not entirely friendly, maybe our waitress was having a bad day. The meal was a little on the pricier side but I felt the happy hour prices were fair. We would return when visiting Bozeman.

My waitress, once she came to the table, was incredibly nice and did check in a few times - not overly so like some can do. I appreciated that. I did order the burger medium and it came out medium well to well, but I attribute that to bison cooking quicker and it really didn't matter to me anyway. Burger was good. Fries were good. But, my husband and I decided to bite the bullet. There aren't many options for Christmas Eve dining in town anyway. Our waitress, who seemed to also be one of the bartenders was very sweet. We sat close to the entrance so we got a little cold when the front doors opened but it wasn't bad overall. The interior was very cute and inviting. We ordered way too much food but I'll break it down dish by dish... * Lemon Drop: Worth every penny. I wish I had more in a glass. * Bone Marrow: Not bad. It could have used a tad more seasoning but the sourdough bread definitely helped elevate the flavor. I wish the bread was toasted but no big deal. * French Onion Soup: Delicious! My husband hates onions but loved the soup here. It was especially tasty on a semi-cold Christmas Eve night. * 16 oz. Ribeye: Cooked perfectly. I love a cast iron seared steak and the beef tallow made it even better. We decided to split a steak - already knowing we'd order way more than two people could eat. * Lobster Mac & Cheese: It was much better than I was expecting. * Heirloom Baby Carrots: There was something about this dish that just didn't do it for me. I'm not sure if it was the spices, or lack of, but still better than others. * Cornbread skillet: A reliable side if it's something you're craving but nothing to write home about. * Cookie skillet: Not very exciting. The cookie was okay but the huckleberry ice cream made it much better. * Dow's 10-year: Treat yourself! This port was the perfect balance of sweet and smooth. My husband also ordered french fries and there was nothing special about 'em. He's not a fan of truffle fries so these were plain. I personally think the truffle fries would have been a better option. All in all, our bill was about $240.
